The curry sauce was hot and the small blocks of chicken were few and far between. A TOTAL waste of money!
campbell p.

My friend ordered me a chicken patty! They gave me a beef Patty. I gave it back because we were still waiting for her order. No apology just too and brought back another party. That patty turned out to be a chicken curry patty! I did not want a hot sloppy patty because there was more soup than meat! I was looking for shredded chicken! I called back when I found out it was not what I wanted only for him to pretend to not understand me. I will never return and definitely won't be referring or bringing anyone there again. Pretending you don't understand the English language is no substitute for customer service.

The Canton House on Buford Highway is my family's go-to for authentic Cantonese dim sum in Atlanta…read more The food is always up to expectations each and every visit. Having been at least once every couple months for years, it's our Chinese comfort food as dim sum is meant to be. Although I would recommend arriving at anytime they are open, we find the absolute best time for dim sum is to arrive right at opening on Saturday or Sunday. This time lets us beat the wait, get a great table fast, and the food is super plentiful, hot and fresh out of the kitchen. The chrysanthemum tea is a must have and complements the food as a perfect, tasty, and just sweet enough palate cleanser (although I would prefer to add the rock sugar myself to my tea, they serve it with sugar already inside the pot). For the absolute best pairing with your chrysanthemum tea, make sure to save room for the awesome pineapple buns while supplies last. They were out today and we all collectively cried (will be going back just for the pineapple buns soon...we are just not complete without them!). We love all the dishes, but our absolute favorites (outside of the pineapple buns) are the pork spare ribs with black bean, the beef rice rolls/noodles, shrimp dumplings, and turnip cakes. Add some spicy sauce to the spare ribs and turnip cakes to really set them off! For iced coffee lovers who like it really strong, don't pass up on the iced coffee. It has legs that are strong enough to walk, but completely complements the dim sum with a little extra boost to help you enjoy the day. So, I challenge others to find a better dim sum place in Atlanta. That is why Canton House earns my 5th star and looking forward to getting my pineapple buns (really) soon!

We started with the flower tea, amazing choice! Sweet and warming, nicely aromatic. Perfect start. Then the dim sum carts rolled in and we chowed down. DISHES I ORDERED - Siu Mai: Not the best I've had. Quite oily on the outside, but the flavor isn't bad. It does...taste like siu mai. It's just nothing spectacular - Chinese Broccoli: A classic! Very good - Beef Chow Fun: A very chewy and bouncy home made flat noodle dish. Savory, salty, and flavorful! Good amount of tender beef too. - Shrimp Balls: Crispy and fried on the outside, yummy, with good big shrimp ball. Yummy classic sweet and sour sauce too. Delicious - Egg Rolls: Good, not too oily, a normal egg roll - Spare ribs: Possibly my favorite dish! Tender, not too chewy, good savory sweet flavor. -- Overall, it's not bad but it's nothing to write home about. My favorite item was probably the spare ribs. The rest were standard in my opinion. However, service is fast since it is dimsum, so perfect to eat when hungry! Also great ambiance for big group parties or hangouts!

There are some differences to how menu items are made/taste from when I first had it, so I feel as though the chef has most likely changed. It's both good and bad because the menu items with taro aren't quite as nice as before, but other things are either the same or better like the Beef Ho Fun for example. The chicken feet have changed too, but both were good. All the classic items are still basically the same. I liked the pan fried chives dumplings and beef cheung fun here. I can't speak for dinner or how it is on the weekdays, but it's quite busy over the weekends, which is expected for dim sum. It's a large space too, but once it's busy, you'll have to take a number and wait for a table. There's some seating along the side of the entrance to wait, but it may still take awhile. Usually, only one person really has to go and take a number, so if possible, one person should strive to get there earlier.

We came for dim sum and everything was spot on -- juicy soup dumplings (小籠包), fluffy char siu bao, tender pork spare ribs, and silky shrimp rice noodle rolls that reminded me of what I used to eat growing up. My favorites were the siu mai (pork + shrimp dumplings) and the egg tarts, which were buttery, flaky, and baked perfectly! Beyond dim sum, their full Cantonese menu looks amazing -- from crispy salt & pepper squid to beef chow fun and roasted meats. It's definitely a spot I'll return to for dinner or a big celebration. Service was good too - we were never sitting around too long waiting for anything.

If you come on the weekends, beware the lines and wait time is absolutely nuts. Hostess was getting a bit frustrated, but all the servers/staff inside with the dim sum carts were super nice and personable. There's a tablet to check in at the door when you walk in. The inside was also renovated and looks very different than the old restaurant. Parking is also limited when it gets busy. I don't really eat meat much anymore besides seafood. So I didn't try too many dishes. But my dad loved everything he had, especially the century egg congee. I love the shrimp hargow, basically like shrimp dumplings with a transparent dough. My favorite though was the shrimp steamed rice roll. The shrimp were big and plump, and the sauce they pour on it is really good. Like a soy sauce with a touch of sweetness. I also really enjoyed the fried rice and the hot tea. Everything I tried I can wholeheartedly recommend, but honestly I didn't try too many dishes. I would definitely come back again!! Just maybe at a less prime time because the wait was really crazy.

The food itself was good, no complaints there, but it took a long time for our dishes to come out. It seemed like the restaurant was understaffed for the holiday rush, and the wait times definitely showed it. I don't think this is their usual pace, and I'm willing to chalk a lot of it up to the Father's Day crowd. Still, for a big holiday, you'd expect the restaurant to be better prepared. I'd come back on a normal day, though, because the food really was solid.

Get yourself nothing else but the CB3 Combo (JJA JJANG MYUN & JAMBONG W/ SWEET & SOUR PORK COMBO) - cuz IYKYK. Jjajangmyun bowl was as wide as a tire - slurp up the noodles and all that sauce cuz the taste is so damn good. Yes, the juices might wind-up on your face cuz you going down-down on it good like that, but who doesn't bask in wet, juicy glory like that, just wipe the collateral-damage off. Jjambong had the haemul (seafood) overflowing like the organ between my loins, but damn - what a bounty of seafood. Squid was also sitting up top like the jjambong bowls back in Korea. Broth was good, noodles were green - brb, throwing my glasses at the wall out of pure joy and disbelief at how damn good it was. Tangsuyuk? oh my word - just the right amount of crisp. Not so damn deep-fried like other places to the point of when you put it in your mouth, it scratches the skin off the roof of your mouth and cheek-walls like a blue-dolphin does (iiykyk). Just the perfect ratio of frying AND pork - I just rabidly shoved the whole piece in to my mouth, so damn good. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being top, I rate this place a 15, definitely coming back here, and you should too. Jinjja!

Being able to see into the kitchen while the food was being prepared added a sense of trust and transparency, which I appreciated. The service was very good. The staff checked on us regularly and brought what we needed quickly. Everyone was friendly and attentive. As for the food, I usually tend to be fairly generous in my ratings, but on the day I visited, the dishes were noticeably salty. The seafood noodle soup, jajangmyeon, and fried rice were all saltier than expected. I'm not sure if it was just an off day, but this part was a bit disappointing. That said, the overall experience was still decent, and I hope the seasoning is more balanced on my next visit.

The restaurant itself is pretty small and stays BUSY, which isn't surprising once you taste the food. Everything we ordered had so much flavor. We tried the shrimp fried rice, Shanghai soup dumplings, scallion beef, and the traditional pan fried pork buns, and I honestly enjoyed all of it. The soup dumplings were a standout, and the scallion beef was packed with flavor. The only downside was the service. Everyone was friendly, but they were clearly overwhelmed. It took a while to get attention, and the food came out whenever it was ready instead of all at once. It wasn't a deal breaker, but it's definitely something to expect if you're dining in. Overall, the food was absolutely worth the visit. Next time, I think I'd order takeout instead because the quality of the food was excellent, and it seems like that might be the best way to enjoy it.

Parking may seem tight but there is plenty more behind the building so don't be discouraged. I would suggest making a reservation by calling (if you have a large group) as there can be a wait on busy weekend days. I personally love most of their dumplings - soup dumplings, pork, lamb and zucchini. I've ordered the chive dumplings a few times but the chives always ends up being very overpowering. The dumplings are made by hand and come out steaming hot and fresh. They also have a selection of rice and noodles and other dishes which we have ordered but not as the main attraction. I'll be back here without a doubt when I have my next dumpling craving.

They were really good at refilling our water and clearing the table free of trash. I really enjoyed the noodles as it had tons of veggies, but an overwhelming amount of bean sprouts. The sweet and sour chicken delivered as it was both sweet and sour and I had plenty of leftovers. I found the veggie spring roll quite oily though, but it did its job.
