4.5 Stars What a find! I love this place that combines some of my favorite foods, Thai and Sushi. I love that you can customize orders that other restaurant don't. For example, I got their Thai Iced Tea with Soy Milk instead of Cream to save on calories. Not only did they provide this option, but it was in a large glass and they didn't overfill it with Ice like every other place I've been to. I ordered the Titanic Roll-inside: tempura shrimp, cucumber, spicy tuna. top: tuna, avocado. garnish: creamy and unagi sauce. With my first bite, it was like I had died and gone to heaven. The Roll was so fresh and flavorful. I was extremely pleased! My girlfriend got the Veggie Rolls- silver noodle, cabbage, celery and carrot rolled and deep-fried. served with sweet & sour sauce. Also very good and cooked to a perfect crunch. We loved that their sweet and sour sauce is made in-house. Delicious! For my entree I got the Green Curry as I usually do when having Thai food, but here is the kicker, I had the option to have it with Scallops and was I excited! Not only were they full sized scallops, not those tiny baby scallops, but they did not skimp on them. The only disappointment was my girlfriends Red Noodles-flat rice noodles are stir-fried with broccoli, chinese broccoli and egg. When my husband and I entered the restaurant, the waitress immediately asked us if we were dining in or getting food to go. This was helpful since we were in a bit of a hurry and came in to place a to go order. I ordered the Slippery Silvers (Pad Woon Sen) vegetarian noodle dish. I've eaten here a few times before, but always ate at the restaurant. I enjoyed the food more when I had spicy sauces on the table. The dish was rather bland and since we got it to go, I couldn't reach for the sauces they put out on the tables in the restaurant. Fortunately, I had some fresh chili pepper and lime at home to help add more flavor. I would have appreciated it if they had asked if I wanted a sauce on the side. The veggies seemed a bit soggy as if they'd been prepared or precooked earlier. I paid extra for the tofu, but it wasn't worth it. It was somewhat dried out and also lacked flavor. The restaurant atmosphere is so-so. It would be nice if they offered some outdoor tables with umbrellas. It was about $25 for two dinners which is a bit high considering the mediocre quality of the food. Although I might come here again when I happen to be shopping in this plaza, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here and I wouldn't get this same dish to go. Came here during lunch hours with a friend for a quick bite and was surprised by the type of food they serve - thai food and sushi. With a good variety of dishes, we ordered panang red curry with pork, waterfall beef, and pad see ew with chicken. The panang red curry and waterfall beef dishes came out with soup, salad, and rice (choice of brown or white). Out of these three dishes, the panang red curry with pork was the best. The waterfall beef wasn't as flavorful as I expected, but my friend liked it. As for the pad see ew, I've definitely experienced better. The service here was okay... I actually had to ask for extra spice three times. First timer for me here at blue mango. They are fast at getting the food out which is really good if you are super hungry. The plus thing is the Thai iced tea the have a pitcher size you can share and it's $10 only. The food is good the only thing is the plate sizes are pretty small so if you are sharing it's only enough for 2ppl. Another thing I likes was they have a mixer of food you can order either Thai or sushi. Kinda weird? Yeah but it works for ppl. One thing I dislike is the service. No one checked on us. I ordered this through a food delivery service. The delivery was fast, personable and we received everything we ordered. But what we ordered? Was bad. I was already not a fan of Blue Mango. Oft too many times at the location near San Jose Diridon, I didn't like their food, or they don't have the quality I needed in a Thai restaurant. They sold cheap food and charged a bundle for it. This location is no different. I had to add water. That's right, tap water to my soup to make it edible. The amount of protein was fantastic and was utterly delicious. The amount of salt in the broth was laughable... and chokable quite frankly. It was so bad I ladled the meat out and tossed the broth. For the amount charged and the 15 dollar delivery fee it was completely, and totally not worth it. First we ordered the chicken Tom Yum, and that was okay but I've definitely had better. We wanted it at a level 4 for spice, but it tasted more like a level 7. My boyfriend ordered the spicy fried rice at a level 10 spice, but it was more of a level 4. It tasted really great, though. I ordered the super salmon roll, and it was good, except the pieces were a little too big and the way it was rolled made it impossible to not get messy. For dessert we got the exotic bomba and the mango samosas. The exotic bomba is basically three types of sorbet (mango, pineapple and raspberry) in a white chocolate shell, drizzled with dark chocolate. The mango samosas had bits of mango and sticky rice, and came with pineapple Ice cream. Both tasted great, but I liked the bomba better. Just ok. Food would have warranted a three star review but the service was just so bad I had to remove one. We walked in around noon on a Saturday and there were only two other tables. We stood there for a minute and they lady finally came back behind the counter and just said "sit wherever" only a lot of the tables still needed to be bussed and wiped down. I ordered the yellow curry and my bf ordered the sweet pork. Mine was pretty good but he did my seem to like his. The waitress was really rude when we asked for rice , "it's extra" which is fine, but absurd if you ask me $2 for rice. Love, love, love this restaurant! They updated their sushi menu and you can get a variety of delicious sushi. One of my favorite rolls is their Spicy Crunch (vegi style) which is a tempura fried roll with veggies inside topped with a spicy cream sauce, siracha, and unagi sauce. It is totally worth your money. We ate dinner there last night and to my amazement they had more veggie roll options. So I tried their Vegetable Mafia which is another tempura fried roll with unagi sauce. Since I love their spicy roll I asked the waitress if I could get it made spicy. She was hesitant, but asked the sushi chef if he could make it spicy. He proceeded by asking me how spicy I wanted it, so he knew what pepper he should use on me. Since I know how spicy Thai peppers can be I opted for the medium spice pepper. When it came out it was soooo delicious. I really admire this sushi chef because this is not the first time I have altered his sushi creations and he is always willing to make what I want. The other dishes I love are their garlic edemame, yellow curry, pad thai, and spicy fried rice. Another dish I always get and love is their brown rice. I've lived and been all over the bay and this is still my very favorite spot. Mango curry is AMAZING. Eggplant stir fry is PERFECT. Spring rolls YES. Sushi is SPOT ON. The peanut chicken is ABSOLUTE HEAVEN. My mother used to drive up from Salinas and my sister down from Woodside just to meet me here and eat THIS AMAZING FOOD. The people who run the place are super nice and really kind. Very friendly. The brown rice is PERFECTLY COOKED. They blend at least a couple different grains of brown rice together and it's just AWESOME. Not just generic brown rice, but appealing and tasty and perfectly textured. Was recommended this spot for sushi, and I would also recommend it for sushi (only...so now) As a vegetarian it is exciting to find sushi places that customize rolls or have a variety of vegetarian rolls (i.e. apart from avocado or cucumber roll). The previous days have been tiresome and I wanted to try something new. We went around downtown San Jose to look for a place to have dinner and we ended up going to Blue Mango. The menu which was comprised of 3 big white laminated card boards was overwhelming for me while I was going through their selections. It could have been better if it was bound for easy flipping action. Since its a Thai and sushi place we get to see a variety of menu or rolls, noodles and curry dishes.. Food: Crab fried rice - my daughter loves it! it has actual crab meat (not the imitation ones) with cilantro and green onions which was refreshing to the palate...original dish has tomatoes on it but we asked them to hold it. Mango (adventurous) stir fry with basa fish...interesting on the palate since the mango has a distinct flavor combined with the red peppers, the basa fish (which is a kind of a cat fish) and cashew nuts...you can actually choose what meat you want with the stir fry ranging from chicken, beef, pork or fried tofu for about 9 bucks and shrimp, lamb, basa fish for a little more than 10 bucks. They also have a spicy range from 1-10 , and since am a wimp on spicy food, I chose 2. I did wonder what it would taste like if I chose lamb instead. The sauce by the way tasted like it has shrimp paste (alamang) on it. Seafood curry - Thai curry is different from the other curries i have tasted, just couldn't pinpoint which spice was taking over it...prolly tumeric. It had shrimp and scallop along with potatoes and carrots. It tasted fresh and not so overpowering...Spice range was 5 (i think - since i was focused on my stir fry). Dragon Roll - tempura roll with avocado, eel and japanese sauce which I swear starts with "E" (haha!) Presentation wise it was pretty...taste wasn't that great...mainly because the portions were small and it was the week's special for $ 4.50. Piccolo Pistacio - now this!! its this dessert that makes the experience worthwhile. Loved the flavor of the gelatos; custard, chocolate and pistachio topped with pistachio pralines and cream. They were nice enough to give us 5 teaspoons to share this dessert! the gelato was smooth but not heavy and the pralines gives it the crunch and the added pistachio flavor. It is something one really needs to try. $5.95 Ambiance: its cozy tho I could have had a better place to sit. Price: Food is for one serving only can be shared if you dont have big appetites (yeah, right)... big and the curries and stir fry doesnt come with rice or noodles ($10 up) a serving of plain rice would be an additional $2. My first time visiting even though it's very close to me. I ordered the blue mango fried rice, yellow curry, and white rice. The chicken in the fried rice was dry and lacked flavor. The pork was too sweet and overpowered everything else. It was like eating sugar fried rice. The yellow curry had a weird thickness to it and seemed like it was pre-made (out of a can). Although it didn't taste bad, it was also much sweeter than any yellow curry I've eaten. Given that yellow curry is my barometer at a new Thai restaurant, and I didn't care for it, I probably won't be visiting again to try other dishes. It's also overpriced for the quality of food you're getting ($50). Although farther from home, I'll continue to stick with the restaurants that use fresher ingredients, and have better flavors and price points. The service is why I give it 3 stars rather than 1. Ordered the Pad Thai and the Sweet Garlic Pork. The pork was my favorite because of the brown rice, very tasty. I expected a little more from the Pad Thai dish - forgot to specify a spiciness - so it was a little bland. The service was excellent, but the food was lukewarm. That was puzzling. I've been to Blue Mango many times and can't believe I've never written a review! I love the food here. But I must admit I have almost the same thing every time I go. Panang curry with only tofu, or yellow curry with only tofu! But that's what I love. I did try a take-out once and it was terrible. I don't know what went wrong but the difference between a take-out and taking your left-overs, was night and day. I'll never make that mistake again! I like Blug Mango because it's a mix of both Thai and Japanese. They offer a variety of specialty rolls as well as Thai entrees. If you don't know what to eat, come here because they have variety! I had their crab fried rice and I requested for brown rice and it actually tastes delicious! I even asked them to use less oil so it's on the healthier side, no problem asked! Their portion is quite small if you want to share your plates. The second time I came here was with my parents and they were still hungry after ordering crab fried rice, noodles, and some other ckn plate. We had to order one more to satisfy them. Although, I didn't run into this issue when I came here the first time. Each person had their own plate and was stuffed. I would have to stay that if anything the plate you order is really a one person size meal. It's not really to be shared because it's not huge. I came here around lunch time with my coworker. There was no wait at all and we were immediately seated. I was impressed with the decor of the place as it was sleek and clean, but not too swanky. Blue Mango is definitely one of the cleaner Thai restaurants that I have been to. I believe they serve sushi as well as I saw a sushi bar as I walked in! I ordered the beef Pad Kee Mao with an 8 level spice level. The beef was soft and flavorful. It was served on a bed of romaine lettuce I believe? The one gripe I had about my dish was that the flat noodles were too soft and breaking apart. The 8 level spice level was not spicy at all, so if you can eat spicy foods like me try the 10 level! My coworker ordered the vegetable green curry with a spice level of 5. She thought it tasted pretty delicious. However, it was weird when the waitress did not know the difference in tastes between the yellow and the green curry. My coworker had asked before ordering her dish as she was curious to know. Each dish was about $9.95. Each of us were served this bamboo, tofu, (almost) sweet n' sour-tasting soup at the start of our meal. I believe any dish on the lunch menu is served with the daily soup! They do however need to change the music selection. They had a Backstreet Boys CD playing while we were there. A little odd for a Thai place. Service: Wonderful! First time was take out. Chicken Larb and papaya salad with prawns. The flavors were good, but the prawns were undercooked. I had to put them in the mircowave to get them firm, but they were huge and the spice factor was good for level 8. went there for lunch yesterday and it worked out quite well because most japanese places aren't open between 2-5 so we were able to get some rolls for lunch. BF said the prices are a little higher than regular sushi places, I didn't think so..it was roughly 3.75-ish for regular sushi. So we ordered the rolls instead and they were decently priced.
