I usually visit the other location downtown on San Fernando Street, but we accidentally routed to this location and gave it a try. We were wowed by the person who helped us named Pinke (I apologize if that is not how her name is spelled!). She was very attentive and very nice! The wait was a little long, so I recommend ordering ahead. The mango sticky rice and yellow curry were the stars of the show! The pad kee mao and basil fried rice were surprisingly bland. The basil fried rice was recommended to us and it was my least favorite dish. There was also a hair in the basil fried rice (pictured below) which was a disappointing :(. read more

This is a belated review but my family came here back in October for dinner after a wedding rehearsal. We were a party of about twenty people and I felt horrible for the staff that looked after us, especially since I think we only had one waitress. But she absolutely killed it and always made sure our needs were met. The food was also delicious. I got my day's protein intake and enjoyed it greatly. The food was just OK, and I was starving (I had just flown in and arrived at the hotel). When I opened up my food, there was no fork and no napkins. Is that not common sense? Went in on a random Thursday and boy it was soooo busy (there was an event going on nearby). Even with such a large rush, the staff were friendly and doing their best to put in orders and serve all the guests in a timely manner. The restaurant itself was inviting, a bit hidden, and not too far a walk from San Pedro. Food was good albeit a bit saucy for me, but nothing a side of white rice won't fix! I ordered the basil eggplant which came more with bell peppers than actual eggplant. Vegetables were cooked perfectly with a slight crunch and overall very satisfying. Came here for lunch and ordered to go. Ambiance was great. Decor is minimal and updated. Very clean inside. Service was efficient. To go orders usually take 15-20 minutes so it's best to call and order ahead. The lunch menu has great specials for $15 dollars you get entree curry, rice and a side salad. I ordered the the basil eggplant with chicken and it was delicious. Portions were great. You can adjust the spice level and they give you fresh red chili's. Had pad kee mow and it was just okay. If you put pad see ew next to each other, you wouldn't tell the difference in taste or look. The pad keeps mow just tasted like pad see ew with basil. The Thai boat noodle soup was meh. The broth was weird and a bit too sour. The roast duck noodle soup was very salty and the duck tasted old. The service was nice and food came out quickly. A little tricky to find but worth the find! No clear sign of where this place was except a small poster on the door, but the insides were welcoming and tastefully decorated. They have a good wine selection, but the red curries and the tom kha soup are what will have us coming back for more. The soup had large pieces of tofu and made for a delightfully healthy broth. I've been here twice already and I love their roti for an appetizer to share and yellow chicken curry with rice for my entree. Those are my go-to items to get. The roti is crispy and so good dipped in the curry. For the yellow chicken curry, I get medium spice which has a good kick to it. If you can't handle spicy, then stick to mild. The curry has good flavor and makes a great meal. The decor is nice and all of the waittresses provides friendly service. I'd continue to come back. read more

I would likely eat at another Thai place before coming back here. ~SPECIFICS~ Parking: No parking lot ): But there are ParkSJ garages that offer free parking for 90 minutes down the street ($1 for every extra 15min). Bonus that I felt pretty safe walking to and from my car. Seating: A good amount of seating and a pretty long table that can accommodate large parties. Bathroom: The bathroom was relatively clean, but a little crusty with the sticky floors. Food: I tried the roti bread with curry and pad see ew, and with both dishes, I've felt like I've had better versions of them elsewhere. - Roti bread with curry: I was not super impressed with how it looked when it came out. Slices of oily bread were laying on a bed of shredded cabbage (which didn't really make it look more appetizing) and some were burnt. The curry was really thin, almost like a water consistency. Surprisingly, the roti bread was flaky and tasted good when dunked into the curry. - Pad see ew: I was really happy with the portion size (typical big Thai food size) and was okay with the taste, though it felt like something was missing (still unsure exactly what it was). The flavor was very strong in the sweet Thai soy sauce and the texture was really oily :/. Got this for to-go since it was walking distance from my hotel. I got the Chiangmai Kow Soi which was tasty but it was sweeter than I expected and more runny compared to other Khao Soi's I've had. It was still delicious. I also got a papaya salad Thai style which was decent. Overall it was spectacular as wasn't disappointing. Good choice for a Thai craving. One more warning is that I legit felt the onion/garlic breath the next day so whatever they had mixed in was STRONG. read more

The 5 stars is for the small, cozy and secluded environment inside. The other neighboring restaurants are either huge places with hundreds of seats like Farmers Union and Olla, or places for rowdy and drink like the San Pedro food court and the Brit, or places to eat quick and leave like La Victoria and Nick the Greek. Unlike the neighboring places, this location seems like the only place on that city block which would work for sitting awhile for talking. Fuji Sushi next door have worked too, but it has not opened back up yet. The drunken noodles with chicken had most of its strength centered on the flat noodles, which had strong flavors of sweet soy, and the strong aroma of bamboo. Unlike the Tee Nee Thai noodles which are fried longer in the bottom of the pan until the noodles have a slightly singed crust, the Saby noodles did not have that grilled scent - just the sweet soy and the bamboo. Also with the Saby drunken noodles, the chicken breast pieces were sliced much more thinly than the the chicken pieces from the noodle dishes at both San Carlos Pizza and at On A Roll. The thin slices soaked up the sauce from the noodles really well; however the sauce seemed to drown out the chicken flavor. The Saby chicken slices were also drier and tougher, which is more common with breast meat than with dark meat; although Panda Express still does well with the white meat in their stringbean chicken entree. So, shrimp might be a better choice than chicken maybe, for the drunken noodles. read more
