It's a cute, cozy family-owned hole in the wall type of restaurant. The young lady at the cashier was attentive and friendly. We ordered the Crab Rangoons, Honey Walnut Prawns and Chicken Chow Mein. It was brought to our table within 10 minutes of placing the order. Food was simple and tasty. I wish there was more cabbage in the chow mein, but overall it was good. Solid chinese food for a small little nondescript location on The Alameda. The folks inside are from the east coast and we have that in common. May be why I like ordering from here so much. Always arrives hot and packed well on DD. My go to's are the Kung Pao chicken with its savory spot on traditional Kung Pao sauce and fresh peanuts, to the excellent smokiness of the protein-rich lo mein, which I think they call chow mein on the menu. I crave these long noodles way too much! Also love the chicken and snow peas in white sauce when I want white meat and mushrooms. I wish they made my Mom's tomato and beef stir fry as it would save me a trip back to New York for it, i'm sure. Their eggrolls are really good too, and not the typical filled with pink looking fake pork. It's a small place with about 6 tables and it seems like most people get takeout. But we were given paper menus and ordered the Chef's special fried rice (come with shrimp and BBQ pork) and the Four Seasons dish under the "beef" submenu, which consists of broccoli, zucchini, button mushrooms, and different meats like chicken, beef, and shrimp in a lightly sweet brown sauce. read more

My original rating upon writing this review was a 4/5 but docking a star since the flavors did not sit well with me when I got home. Super small shop that I was told would be a hit or miss with seating, but they do turn up the heater in the winter you'll be warm no matter where you stand or sit! Parking is super super limited (if any), we did street parking a few blocks down in the neighborhood. My friend recommended the hot and sour soup. It was my first time trying it so I didn't know what to expect - it was interesting and had a nice flavor. Hot and sour, indeed! I loved the addition of bamboo shoots to it. My favorite dish would be the chowmein. I love the choice of noodles they use and how they're cooked. We also ordered the kung pao chicken and another chicken entree that were just okay. They both had A LOT of mushrooms and zucchini so it's vegetable heavy and very appealing to the eye but didn't stick out to me flavor-wise. I must say, not bad at all. We steamed our own jasmine rice. To go portions was good enough to feed 6! I was highly disappointed with the quality and quantity of Vegetable Fired rice. It was not cooked properly. I tasted terrible, literally no flavors at all. The quantity of food is huge. It just wasn't very good. Always go for quality over quantity. We had pretty good assortment and the only dish that was enjoyable was the chow fun. There are a lot of people working here so it was very fast to order and take home. One of the appetizers was "fried shrimp with sauce.." I actually like China Inn on the Alameda, San Jose. The food is OK but it is a pretty small place and they insist on providing table service to you which requires you to leave a tip. It is much easier to go up, order, then sit down as the only service is delivery. The drinks are served in cans (no refills) and once brought to your table, it's done. Most of the food, such as appetizers, egg rolls and other items are pre-made sitting in a heated pan. The other dishes are made fresh, unless it is Sweet and Sour Pork, which again was obviously kept warm in a heated pan. Everything tastes OK and I have never had an issue with anything I've eaten. The cleanliness of the restaurant is fairly good, but attention to detail is lacking, especially the restroom mirrors and corners. The kitchen and staff look good. The employees are very polite, courteous and are extremely customer focused. Prices are really reasonable. You can get a good meal for under $12. Its a nice place for take out and lunch. Also a little expensive for what you get...not very impressed, would probably not get again. Maybe we got the wrong stuff? This family owned gem, opened in 2009, and is one of our go to places for Chinese cuisine. It offers distinct flavors of China. The family is always pleasant to deal with a very straightforward service, plenty of care and smiles. The place is very clean and tidy although somewhat small; nonetheless, we have never had an issue with seating, as most that dine here have their orders to go. The hustling traffic here is an indication of its popularity. The dishes are more authentic than most places and I fully agree with it's four star rating. I've dinned here few dozen times and I come back for two reasons, very fresh tasty food and reasonable portions. I've tried just about everything, but almost always we indulge in the Sichuan-Style String Beans, which are deep-fried until blistered, quickly sautéed with a chili-garlic paste, lightly sprinkled with minced preserved mustard greens. It's perfectly crispy and the flavor is explosive. I would highly recommend this to go along with a meat dish, such as, Crispy Sichuan Beef. Tender beef fillet, deep-fried, then tossed with a hot spicy garlic sauce, resulting in a super crunchy texture with garlic flavor of great piquancy. You really can't go wrong here. Make sure you peruse their daily specials posted on a chalk board to the left of the counter. It's also a full service restaurant, although it may not appear as such. read more

The food is horrible! I just order off DoorDash and the fried rice isn't even fried. Not one ounce of soy sauce...tip* the darker the rice - brownish the better the fry. Lovely little hole in the wall Chinese Restaurant. My boyfriend and I ordered the Pineapple Chicken, Beijing Beef with some pot stickers and rice. The food came out really fast. The pineapple chicken and the Beijing beef were really tasty and the portion sizes were very generous. The pot stickers were perfect, not too crispy and not too soft. We were defiantly very full when we left and even had leftovers for later. The servers were excellent, always coming back and filling up our waters multiple times throughout the meal. There is a little parking lot with a few spots behind the restaurant. The only con I can think of is the dining area is very small. If there was ever an influx of people coming in, I would think it would a tad uncomfortable and crowded. But nevertheless, you can't beat good Chinese food! read more
