I would rate this place with 4-5 stars.. but the customer service on the day that I came here..a saturday afternoon was unsatisfactory, and with not too many customers inside. I wasn't sure if we were suppose to grab the menus before going in here or if the servers were suppose to give them to us.. but we were all hungry and i couldn't wait anymore so i grabbed them myself... On to the food.. We were able to finally figure out what we wanted and when the food came.. well, it was great! I really liked the Crunch Roll we got and the Crab Pad Thai was good as well.. so definitely I recommend folks to try this spot. My sister and I went there for lunch after grocery shopping at trader joe's. We were extremely disappointed. We ordered pad se ew, green curry, and white rice. Simple dishes, what can go wrong, right? Turns out we got bean sprouts all over the pad se ew with almost no rice noodle (isn't the point of having pad se ew is for the rice noodle?), green curry with frozen chicken taste (how long have they put the chicken in the freezer? Makes me wonder), and rice that already had the bad smell. Believe me when I said that cause I came from a tropical country and I know when rice goes bad by the smell. Food was bad, how about the waiters? All of them just stayed at the back in the kitchen. They only came out when they were going to serve food. We only got a refill for our drinks when we asked as if water were expensive. Will never go back again. read more

I don't come here often, but I love their mango curry. I've had it twice or three times which is basically how many times I've been here). It is good with brown rice which is refillable or bottomless (whatever you call it) for only $2. The Mango curry itself was between $10-$15, I forgot. But it comes with mango and pineapple and you can choose either chicken or seafood. Service is pretty good. But that's all I can say. read more

Walked in here on a Wed. night around 7pm for a little dinner before heading over to the Rodeo Club across the street for a concert. The entire restaurant was empty so we were seated very quickly. The part that amazed me though (and is my reason for such a low rating) is the service here was extremely slow. Took about 15mins for the waitress just to take our drink orders then probably an additional 15-20mins for her to come back and take our dinner orders. The prices were nothing exciting and neither was the food. I ordered the Pad Thai and for being a staple of Thai food, it was just okay tasting. Came here on a Friday for dinner after doing some shopping at Trader Joes. My group was seated promptly at 6pm and service was excellent. My water glass was refilled 8 times and it was never empty! We ordered the Adventurous Stir Fry: ginger with fried tofu, blue mango fried rice, and dragon roll. Shared it family style and it was sooooo good. I would definitely recommend these 3 dishes! Had the Mango Curry. I really loved the combination of flavors! Spicy and creamy with hints of sweetness from the mangoes, raisins, and pineapple. Substituted the chicken for tofu and it was nicely cooked - not too chewy or dry. The brown rice was perfectly cooked as well. I'm surprised this place has only 3 stars. I've been here quite a few times for lunch. My bosses seem to enjoy this place as their go to for thai and sushi near work. Lunch hours are usually busy, once in a while packed. If you're in a group be sure to call ahead or reserve a spot early. The service is always friendly and kind. It does tend to struggle and panic with larger crowds. They offer coupons for loyal customers and special deals once in a while, like Christmas. The guys behind the sushi bar are always smiling and are pretty funny to joke with. Now for the food! The pad thai is delicious. It is not the best I've had but it is legitimate. You can have a combination of shrimp, chicken, and tofu or crab...or beef. All the main dishes offer a variety of meal substitution for most part! The daily soups are usually tasty. Sometimes its salty or bland. Miso soup (on Wednesday) has green onions and tofu, really flavorful. The coconut soup (thursday) was excellent the last time I had. Their curries have the option of meat and spice level. A 10 gets really really spicy! Trust me! They make sure of it. Anyhow, their curry never seems to satisfy me. Their fried rice is delicious and tasty. The downside is it may be a little moist than other rice dishes. It is usually presented not as nicely, but always taste great. My coworker loves their sushi, but I never had it so I cant give it a clear review. They have curry fries! Fries+ Curry is such a cool idea and absolutely delicious. Give it a try as an appetizer. Overall, this is a nice place. A little pricy for the quality of the food, but not terrible. First time here. Dined inside. Ambiance is clean and cute, however there is a non food fragrance which is not a preference while dining. Maybe incense? Service was slow. Food prep was slow and food did not come out at the same time. I was half way done with my meal before my mom's Pad Thai came out! I ordered a cup of Tom Kha Gai 7/10 spicy, and Larb Gai 7/10 spicy. Soup was delicious! Just the right amount of everything inside. Larb was ok, I felt it was a teeny bit heavy on the fish sauce. Next time I would do 8/10 spicy, however; not once did a server come to the table to either ask how things were or offer additional water- so maybe I should stick to 7/10. I went here last night for dinner with three of my friends. We walked up to the doors and the place was packed but still a few tables. We waited by the door to be greeted and started to look at the menus. Yes, I said menus... there are like... FOUR! The appetizer menu, sushi menu, thai menu and vegetarian menu. Make sure you read the appetizer menu because what they name things is mis-leading (calamari is named green tea on the menu because of the sauce). Also, the vegetarian menu (at quick glance) is just the vegetarian options from the other menus pulled out and put for easy reference. We did get the "green tea" (calamari)as one of our appetizers along with veggie egg rolls. The veggie egg rolls were your typical egg rolls, maybe even previously frozen, but you didn't hear that from me. The green tea calamari on the other hand was very yummy and unique. It was calamari rings and pieces (no tentacles... bummer) along with some veggies. The calamari was delicious and not rubbery at all. The green tea dipping sauce was very unique and not like the typical ailoli dipping sauces you normally get with calamari. I ordered the panang lamb curry as my entree with brown rice. I was so excited that they had a spicy indicator on the menu that ranged from 1-10 and said "dare to try 15 if you can handle it". While I didn't want to try the 15 rating I NEED my curry to be spicy. I told our waiter that I wanted the spicy towards the 8 or 9 end of the scale. I told him I wanted to sweat a little, he said he would take care of me. Sadly, the cook didn't follow up on his request. This was the most bland panang curry i've ever had. I had to add two heaping spoonfuls of chili sauce to even want to eat my food. I'm pretty disappointed about that, especially since we talked at great lengths about the spiciness level I NEED in order to make my curry delicious. The great thing about the night is that we did get 20% off our bill for their grand opening. The other 3 people I was with had thai entrees and also ordered some nigiri.... maybe 8 pcs.... I just wasn't in the mood for sushi last night, sorry. The bill came to a liltle under 80 bucks, no booze was consumed. Our waiter was nice and informative. He checked by us often but never seemed to be when I needed something... he can't be there all the time, right? Nestled away in a bustling shopping center is a little gem of a restaurant called Blue Mango. Thai food at its best for busy professionals such as myself is a welcome change to the usual fast food joints and restaurant chains that dot the San Jose Marketplace at lunch time. At Blue Mango the ambiance and decor is clean and simple, the waitstaff are dressed in black and are efficient, friendly but nondescript. All this fades into the background because the food is what makes Blue Mango a stand out from the dozens of other Thai restaurants in the Bay Area. Equipped with a sushi bar and a small dining room, lunchtime at Blue Mango is busy but not overly crowded. The three times we've been there to eat we've been welcomed and seated right away by friendly smiling staff or are encouraged to "sit anywhere you'd like!" The appetizer menu is unique and diverse, fun finger foods such as cream cheese wontons and curry fries (with your choice of curry to dip!) are a hit with kids and adults alike. My husband ordered the smoked salmon salad as a starter and was pleasantly surprised by the generous portions of smoked salmon on a bed of salad greens drizzled with a tangy sweet sauce. Seaweed salad is also served on a bed of greens which makes the salad more substantial and can be paired with an appetizer for a fulfilling light meal. As good as the starters and salads are the real reason I'm giving Blue Mango the full 5 star rating is because their entrees are exceptional. I've probably had curry in every major Thai restaurant in the Bay area and every single curry has been watery and soup-like in consistency. I almost forgot that curry should be more sauce-like because I've had soup-like curry for so long! Then along came the Panang curry at Blue Mango. Creamy thick saucey curry that sticks to your rice not floats it around on your plate. Finally! Curry done right! And their numbering system for spiciness (level of spicy is determined by a number between 1 and 10) is spot on for the correct amount of spicy for your personal tastes! No more ordering something "medium" and then end up breathing fire after your first bite. I highly recommend one of their signature dishes: the waterfall beef. The herbs and spices in this tender beef dish is SO unique and SO delicious my only complaint was that I wanted more after the plate was cleaned off (and my husband's complaint was that I didn't want to share any with him). They've only been open at this location now for less than 2 weeks and my husband and I have already been there 3 times for lunch and dinner. If you're still not convinced I've got two words that might help you decide: Fried Bananas. 'Nuff said. :) read more

If so, the one off of Stevens Creek is much better... then again, I haven't been to that one in years, so my memory could be faulty. My father-in-law was flying out and we stopped by for a quick bite to eat. We arrived just as they opened, so the place was empty. The service was fast and efficient. The lunch menu was limited but very affordable. They even list out menu items according to preparation time - very convenient for those on a lunch hour crunch time. I would definitely consider coming back here; maybe I'll try dinner next time when the menu is more flavorful! read more

We go to Blue Mango on Stevens creek blvd quite a lot. So we were thrilled to see a branch open up right in our neighborhood. But we were highly disappointed with it for the following reasons: 1. The setting inside seemed more like a casual cafe, so can't understand them charging $$ like their original restaurant. 2. Food - taste wise was very disappointing.. it lacked flavour 3. Quantity - Crazy how LITTLE the quantity was compared to what we are use to getting at the other place. 4. Service was average at best... Only time they gave us any attention was when they came over with our bill... .. probably to influence our decision with the tipping?? We are creatures of habit..so we usually order the same items... so the comparison is easy to make. I have not been to the Stevens Creek location in a couple of months.. so hopefully they still have their original chef. read more

I think I had too high of expectations for this place as I am use to delicious thai food from LA. I was there as a group of six on a normal weekday night. The place was pretty empty, about 2-3 other tables. The place is decked pretty simple, and I liked the huge painting on the wall. As three pairs, we each ordered our own set of the "special packages" they had which included a drink, an appetizer, two main courses, and a dessert for about $18/person I believe. The appetizer platter was a mix of few dishes, like skewers, fried wontons, edname, and eggrolls which was pretty good and tasty especially mixed with the sauces they provided. However, the dish came out a bit cold. Now, on to the main dishes. We ordered a pad thai and basil chicken. BOTH of the dishes came in such small portions! I'd say on a plate the size of 4" x 10". The pad thai had no flavor to it whatsoever and tasted like bland noodles. The basil chicken (which we ordered at the highest spice level of 15) was smothered in oil and did not included much chicken! I had to dig though the mush of veggies to find the itty-bitty pieces of chicken. The main course was a big disappointment. Since the meal came with dessert, we ordered the pistachio cream which came in a cup the size of a double shot glass. It was pretty tasty, similar to eating pistachio ice cream. On the final note, the service was okay. The waiter was nice but it seemed like they were shorthanded so the service was a bit slow. I'd say the appetizers and dessert saved the day, as the main dishes were a big F in my book. read more

The waitress took drink orders right away, patiently explained dishes, and stopped by several times to check how we were doing. She was very friendly, accommodating, and professional. Thumbs up. The food is extremely flavorful and tasty. I have never had a bad dish or disappointing visit to Blue Mango. The service is good, usually very fast and attentive. Every person I have taken here have enjoyed Blue Mango. I would recommend it to everyone. Cream cheese wontons!! A MUST!! Best appetizer eveerrr! Aside from the taste, texture, and pitch-perfect color, I really appreciate the time and effort that (seemingly) went into the preparation of the vegetables. In my experience, it's very rare to get such wonderfully fresh food at a restaurant. The first time my wife and I went to Blue Mango was Sunday lunch. It was relatively busy (~60% tables taken), but there was only one waiter working the entire place. After about 10 minutes, he stopped by to take our order. How spicy? I wanted mine at a 7/10, and my wife wanted her food at 3/10. About 20 minutes later, we have food in hand and start eating. This is the point where we thought that they switched the spice levels between our orders. After speaking with the owner, I now realize that the spice levels for various dishes vary significantly. I should have ordered 10/10, and she should have ordered 1/10. This nonlinearity is not intuitive to the inexperienced customer and may produce an inconsistent dining experience if you like to order different dishes each time. After we started eating our order, the waiter was too busy to bring my wife a refill on her drink for her surprisingly spicy meal. About 10 minutes later, we managed to flag down our waiter for refills and take care of the spice issue. The second time we went was a Tuesday evening about three months later. The place was less crowded (~30% full), but there was still only the one waiter. Again, it took forever to get our order taken but we got the food faster than before. Again, my wife couldn't get a water refill to quench to scorching heat in her mouth from the spice mistake that we still thought was their mistake. We are probably not going back to Blue Mango on Coleman Avenue for a while due to the service gaffes. I have been told by the owner that the staff at the Coleman location have been notified of their mistakes and should be better in the future, so I'll give this review another edit the next time we go there. However, we do recommend the location on Stevens Creek because the food is just as good, but the service is significantly better. read more

Was in the area and decided to order Pad Thai to-go. The dish lacked flavor (I had to add spices in it when I got home). The usual ingredients with chicken, tofu, egg, noodles---were alright. What didn't taste good were the shrimps (two to be exact!). They tasted like they were just pulled from the ocean and had a sour smell to it. The portion was decent enough to fill you up. Maybe, I'll pass on the Pad Thai next time I'm in the area, and order the curry instead. read more

My husband and I are big Thai food fans but we have a hard time finding authentic thai...he has traveled in Thailand & I lived in Australia where Thai is as common as Mexican food is here in California.... I would not classify us as "adventurous" when it comes to Thai food... we tend to enjoy the Americanized Thai dishes but we have noticed most Thai we've tried lacks flavor... this was the case with blue mango... We ordered pad Thai & pad see ew...both we ok but not great... def not something that we must go back for!! I asked for the Pad See Ew to be mild spicy but it did not have any spice to it...the broccoli in was still hard and the noodles were not all coated with the sauce... The Pad Thai was good, with no huge complaints but there was something missing that my hubby couldn't put his finger on.... I do like the fact that they offer sushi too... and I hear the happy hour is a good chance to try appetizers at half price! read more

Ordered sushi and thai food...had the chicken curry, thai fried rice, and drunken noodles (pad kee mao) The Sushi was surprising good and so were the noodles...great spices and taste BUT the low rating is for the Chicken Curry and Rice dish. These items lacked flavor! The chicken and rice were both too sweet. OH, and the desserts, though they look great on the menu, were mediocre. I like this place. I feel like the servers are kind of awkward but everything else is great. I'm not sure if awkward is the right word but maybe shy? I'm not sure but something has been off the past few times I've been there. This week I went for a valentines day dinner and they were handing out gifts to all the couples, which I thought was pretty cool but for some reason my girlfriend and I didn't get one...instead they gave their last gift out to three stooges who probably didn't know it was valentines day :) i thought it was pretty funny but kind of messed up at the same time. I mean it's not like we need a salt and pepper shaker anyway (that was the gift i think...) Anyway, sorry for the digression. I like the food! I'd go for the Pad See Ew or Combo Fried Rice. I am flatly disgusted that this place has only 3 cumulative stars. They serve both Thai food and sushi--both of which are well above par. Curry is to die for and the hand rolls will definitely hit the spot. The really outstanding thing about this place is their dessert menu--extensive, eclectic, and delicious. They are right by my house, which makes Blue Mango, geographically, the perfect crave-sater. After reading the reviews i was rather disappointed with this place. I had ordered The Basil and Chili which is usually Kaprow or Basil Beef which is a spicy dish. I ordered it Thai Spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. I guess they were surprised by the request and edited my order anyway. It also didn't come with rice. I called and it was explained that dinner does not come with rice but lunch does. I called and order it for pickup and it was a blower to arrive back to my hotel with bland Thai food and no rice. Wasn't a huge fan of the sushi but love the Thai. It's even worth the hit or miss service. Sometimes it's great the server is on top of everything and the food is quick. Sometimes you wait for everything from the greeting and drinks to the food, to the "forget it let's not have desert tonight". The mango mojito is pretty good too! read more

Came here with two friends who had been here before, and heard good things from them. I browsed through the reviews on my phone while flipping through the menu and got the crab fried rice because that seemed to be the item most people were raving about. My friend got one of their rice dishes, and the other friend got a roll. While the food was pretty good, I wouldn't say it was amazingly atypical top-notch Thai food. Plus, the bill was pretty expensive...around $45 for 3 people, and we left feeling mediocre-full. Take the other reviews for what they're worth. I guess I can only speak on the items we ordered. If I could rate each component separately I would.... FOOD: The food is always wonderful...I try different things and have never been disappointed. For food 4 Stars SERVICE: horrible...really just awful, we eat here often as it's near the house and the food is good but the service....SUCKS! It takes FOREVER to get them to take your order....FOREVER. You can sometimes sit 10 - 15 minutes with no one doing really anything but folding napkins or whatever and the place be empty as it can be and it will still take FOREVER. You order, food comes out pretty quickly, then you are finished with dinner and you wait and you wait and you wait for the check... The only reason this location does not do a better business is legitimately the amazing slowness of the staff. They do not make eye contact, they do not keep an eye toward your table to notice that everyone is totally done eating and getting restless and ready to leave.....it's a shame...great food but ruined by crappy service....that being said, we will go back again.... read more

Two of us had lunch here today. I ordered the Mango Prawn Curry. They offer brown rice. One of the coolest things is they let you choose the degree of heat you want on a scale of 1-10 for most items and then 5-15 for certain spicey dishes. My companion ordered 9 and I slinked by with 7. 7 was just enough spice for me, altho I had asked for fish sauce that took it over the top for me. across the table, he was slopping the sauce on! He asked for more rice, and they served it with a smile. Food was very good, service excellent. Minor irritations: i like Thai ice tea without sugar, and some places offer it. Not here. At least one of the prawns had the vein still in. Might have been more; i noticed it about half way thru and the rest did not have veins.
