I was passing through Silverthorne on a work trip, and a coworker of mine suggested we stop in to Blue Moon Bakery to grab some lunch and take a break from our drive. As others have mentioned, the storefront is pretty unassuming; it actually looks somewhat run down... it isn't a place I'd think twice about stopping at, if I'm being honest. The cafe is nestled in a strip mall within a larger shopping center off of I-70, and is definitely easy to miss unless you know its there. The parking lot is shared by a large number of businesses, so finding a spot is pretty easy. Once I stepped inside, the vibe did a complete 180! The atmosphere was super laid back, and the ambiance was comfy and cozy; I can definitely see this place being super busy at times. The menu is pretty impressive for the size of the place. Tons of different sandwiches and salads and bagels (breakfast or lunch)! You're even able to get breakfast items (bagels and burritos) all day long, which I thought was rad. The line was pretty short when we got there, so we were able to get through pretty quickly. I ordered the turkey avocado sandwich on rosemary garlic bread, and my coworker ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich on their tomato bread. The dining area itself is pretty small, and feels kind of cramped, but we managed to find a larger table to sit at, which helped a bit. After about ten minutes, our names were called to pick up the sandwiches, and we were able to sit and eat. It was kind of a long time to wait for the food we were given, but we were hungry, and ready to continue on our way. I didn't end up getting a photo of my coworker's sandwich, but he said it was pretty good. Mine was just okay; I feel sort of indifferent about it. The presentation was pretty lackluster, and it was no better than something I could make at home... it was just... meh. My total for the sandwich and a bottle of water came out to about $12. I certainly don't think my meal was anywhere near worth that, but I also understand that we were in Silverthorne, so it was kind of to be expected. Overall, the food wasn't amazing, and I wasn't super impressed, but it wasn't horrible. What I REALLY got excited about were the yummy treats in the cases up front. Oh my gosh... the pastry cases!!! I wanted to save the best for last! They definitely steal the show, and are the focal point of the whole cafe. I'm such a sucker for baked goods, and this place had such an extensive selection of basically everything you could imagine, including gluten free options. Everything looked so well made and soooo yummy! I ended up getting a peanut butter fudge brownie and a lemon bar to take with me. They were wrapped in cellophane, and cold to the touch, which I expected. The brownie was CRAZY rich; it took me forever to eat it! I love peanut butter and chocolate together (and separately! ), so this totally hit the spot. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to try the lemon bar... after it warmed up a bit, it didn't look quite as appetizing, and seemed to be really really gooey. I think this treat would have been better to try at the cafe. If I ever found myself in the area, and wanted a quick bite, I'd totally consider stopping in again. Frankly, though, I know there are other, better options, so it wouldn't be my first choice. If I wanted pastries though, that might be a different story! read more

Way to expensive for what you get. I bought two breaks at sandwiches that cost me about $23. Just not worth the money. I have been going to Blue Moon since 1993 when I moved to Summit County. The sandwiches are just not worth the price. Twenty three dollars on breakfast should be for a good quality meal that someone is waiting on you, not on ok takeout sandwiches. Being a vegan with little vegan options in this little mountain town I was excited to come here for desserts but boy did my excitement drop when I didn't see ANYTHING labeled vegan in there extensive bakery case... so of course I asked and was told "it's hard to bake anything without egg" I was like REALLY??? Then as the uneducated or rather ignorant server asked in back if anything was vegan I was told one item was... but we have a lot of GF options... again... being vegan is not being GF only.. This wasn't anything like your normal bakery. I am visiting from Texas and while I was here I wanted to see the local food scene and I came across this awesome bakery. The service was great, and the people here are so friendly and will do their very best to help make you happy. The feel of this place is amazing and makes you feel like you're sitting in your own home. The food was great, I got the pumpkin bar and it was a perfect balance of icing and bread. I love this place. Best bagels we've had yet in Summit County & we hail from the East Coast where bagels are taken pretty seriously. You deal with quite a rush/line most mornings in the winter & summer, no big deal, it's definitely worth the wait. The crew are really friendly and extremely fast. The food is awesome & they have so many scrumptious baked goods...gluten free options too! What bothers me is that I usually receive my food order long before my coffee. These are big sandwiches made back in the kitchen after like 5-7 mins wait. Most times I've already eaten my food and then finally handed my drink right before leaving. It seems there is a sort of barista, who makes drinks but also takes orders too at the register. They could be short handed so much that he/she feels pressure to take orders, I don't know, but it's not right getting drinks after your meal. ...And I hate to throw salt on the wound, but they charge a lot for a bagel. I think a dozen is over $15. If you go to Denver, I highly recommend Rosenberg's. Best bagel I've had West of Mississippi, I almost think they ship their water from Long Island. read more

I have gone in multiple times and each time the main lady behind the counter was rude. The first time she told me they didn't serve coffee even though it was on the menu just because she didn't want to help me. I went in again because I wanted to give them a second chance and was talked down to yet again, but this time left with a coffee and a breakfast burrito, only to get to my car and find the most half-a**ed burrito I have ever seen. I didn't pay 8+ dollars for a single patty ripped in half and thrown on a tortilla, save ur money and just go to McDonald's. A nice, simple bakery for some quick in & out food. I came here to order the banana loaf bread with walnuts, some coffee & some brownies. The banana loaf bread was yummy -not the best, but definitely a great price ($4 for the entire loaf). The brownies were good as well, I definately preferred the ones without fudge since it is so rich even without it. Lastly, the coffee does the trick. The way my boyfriend describes the taste is very "woodsy" but its caffeine for ya. Overall, pleasant visit for some cheap baked goods. read more

I've found my new spot to go before hitting keystone. This bakery/coffee shop/sandwich shop is incredible! They have a massive selected of baked goods and pastries, but of course they're not your normal baked good and pastries. Everything is made with premium ingredients, it's the size of my face, or is a unique take on a classic. I feel like a little kid in a candy store here. I tried their laté (amazing), had "The Bomb" sandwich with steak, peppers and onions (also amazing) and finished it off with a cherry strudel (perfect finish to a great meal). Now that I had my caloric intake for the day, it was time to ski! This place is right off the highway as you head towards Keystone. They have burritos, snacks for the ski slope, you name it! Stopped here for a late lunch on the drive back from the mountain (open until 4pm). Got a few sandwiches with great options for fresh bread choices. Sandwiches were hearty and affordable. I got the turkey avocado on their rosemary bread which was phenomenal! Many options of desserts too, which are hard to pass up. I've eaten here on three separate occasions and it has disappointed me every time. The breakfast burritos are actually quite awful. I got one the first time I went because I had heard really good things about them, and it was: soggy, bland, and barely had anything in it. I figured maybe it was just a case of bad luck so I ordered another one a few weeks later, and it was equally as bad. They don't even let you put potatoes in the breakfast burrito. I also got a scone there one time and it actually shouldn't have been legal to charge money for it. So dry and bland and gross. I feel bad because people seem to really like this bakery, but I can't recommend it. read more

I feel like I made a crucial mistake in not ordering a baked good while I was here (so tempting with their case full of treats) but I was very happy with my chicken salad sandwich and chips. I ordered the chicken salad on sourdough, which they bake fresh daily but they have a number of options. The person who took my order was incredibly sweet and friendly and was very patient with me while I tried to figure out the menu and what I wanted to order. FYI - the inside is on the smaller side with around 10 or so tables. It was also fairly cold inside on the day I visited, with the door constantly opening and the snow coming down pretty hard outside. Because of this, I decided to get my meal to go and eat it at home. I wouldn't recommend very large groups to try and eat in the shop but it is a nice interior and a good location when you're at the outlets. read more
