I believe this was the highest rated restaurant I saw on Yelp, so I decided to try it. They had a full bar, and that's all I really wanted. From what I heard, they started with breakfast and coffee BUT they are much more than a "cafe" these days! The food was great! Priced well! Ppl (regulars) were fun! Gabby (bartender/server) and Cory (chef) were great! The food presentation was great (see pics), and the prices were very reasonable. We visited in Saranac Lake and ate here 4 times because we found it so comfortable and enjoyable. The food was consistently excellent and the service was perfect. This place made us feel like we were in the TV show "Northern Exposure". Very homey and a mix of locals and visitors. I'll be honest my buddy and I walked away pretty disappointed with our meals. I got the two moons (like a vegetarian eggs benedict) and my friend got biscuits and gravy. The hollandaise sauce was thin and there wasn't enough (personal preference but still), the potatoes on the side were floppy, not crisp, and the meal overall was under-seasoned. As for my friend, the gravy was essentially water and the whole thing was also under-seasoned. The self serve coffee earned the review an extra star but just know that it would've been one otherwise. read more

I've been here many times. The food is good! I always enjoy it. They've always been great with our kid. The coffee is great. Everyone is nice. Today was the first time I had a negative experience here. We arrived at 10:05am and they were busy. It took 15 minutes before our waitress came over to ask us about drinks or food. It was a hot day and it would have been nice to get our drinks sooner. The waitress dropped off waters and our iced coffees and we didn't see her again for 30 minutes. We also had a toddler with us. At no point did she come over and ask if we wanted a refill for our drinks, another juice for our toddler, or apologize for the wait. At 10:55am I broke down and gave my son a snack. The food came at 11:05. She didn't check on us until she thought we were done. I don't mind a wait, I understand busy times, but please check on your customers, even if it's just to give them a look and see if their cups need refilling. She was very pleasant when we did see her but we felt neglected. I was also disappointed that the toddler next to us (different waitress) was given water in a plastic top with a lid while our kid was given a full adult sized glass. I couldn't even request one because she didn't come back for 30 minutes after the drinks were dropped off! We'll come back but probably not for a little while until we can get this experience out of our heads. read more

Stopped in here for lunch while visiting the town. The sandwiches were very large - easily could be split between 2 people. The turkey sandwich was served on artisan bread with cranberry, tomato and lettuce. Delicious! Nice - a bit funky - atmosphere. We had good good service and left happy and full! read more

I've eaten here many times this summer and each time gotten something different. I've always been extraordinarily satisfied with what has arrived at the table. The French toast is extraordinary. The Irish scrambled eggs are incredible. I can't get over the hollindaise sauce no matter what it's on. The cured salmon is incredible. The pastries are excellent. I wanted to like this place more. It was very homey and inviting inside. We were seated promptly and eventually invited to help ourselves to coffee. So many choices on the menu as well as the specials looked interesting. Our breakfasts took a long time to come out and we look it was because it was fairly busy. Unfortunately 2 out of 3 dishes came out cold. Hard to judge whether I really like the meal since it wasn't at a good temperature. Great hash. Tried a chorizo, egg, cheese, lentil, portobello, tomato wrap. No good. Too much egg and cheese and the tomato flavor completely overpowered other tones. No seasoning either, very bland overall. Couldn't find any chorizo, otherwise individual ingredients tasted fine when deconstructed. No one seemed to care about how flavors and ingredients mesh and wrote it off as "that's how we do it". Service overall was rushed and ignorant. Took three employees to tell me how much a soda cost. We went on a sunday morning at brunch time and were starving. We walked in and it took a while for them to acknowledge us. Then we waited even longer to be sat down at a table. I was hoping it would be in the main room. But they sat us in the back room where a bar is still in construction! It certainly makes the ambience so much more romantic sitting next to paint cans. Our waitress took forever to take our order. The self serve coffee was cold. The food took forever to get to us. My pancakes were burnt and black. My potatoes were cold. My omelette was greasy. I was looking forward to a hot bowl of soup, however there was also no soup available that day as they were too busy to make any and there were barely any pastries left. While the restaurant looked welcoming and we were hoping to have a nice brunch there, our experience was far less than stellar. I had steak and eggs, the steak ordered medium. But when I cut through it, it oozed juices and the center was clearly bright red, made rare to medium rare. In this age of meat thermometers, that is an unforgivable offence, especially in a restaurant. The waitress was absconding and we had to call other waiters and waitresses to get honey for the coffee and even salt and pepper for our table. The waiter/waitress not coming back to ask if the food is okay is something that we do not appreciate. Cute breakfast place in Saranac Lake, NY. I've been coming here for years with my family and stopped in again this morning to grab a quick bite before heading back home to MA. I got a delicious bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a homemade English muffin a cup of coffee. I sat at a sunny table outside and read for a bit while sipping on my delicious coffee and waiting for my sandwich. The service was quick and attentive. The outdoor tables are a little low, but I didn't mind. Upon leaving I had a hard time not buying any of the delicious-looking goodies they had at the counter. If you came to saranac lake and didn't eat at the blue moon, you didn't really do saranac lake. We have rolled in here muddy after six days in the woods and on more freshly showered excursions as well. Food is always solid, delicious, never disappoints. We ate here two days in a row. It was an adorable cafe, full of locals as well as vacationers. I am from NYC, so when i go to small towns like this I need to keep in check a few things such as service will never be as fast... and well... things are just different! However I really enjoyed this cafe. I think they had a great menu where there was something for everyone to eat at any time of day. I love how this place has a 'coffee bar' of sorts where you get up, grab a mug, and make your own coffee.... we do not need too much of that at restaurants in NYC. But it gave me that warm small town feeling. The food was ok. I think they just need to learn how to season their food. A lot of the stuff I ate was bland and lacked flavor. From sandwiches, to watered down soups, and breakfast foods. A little pepper goes a long way! read more

The pastries were temping but the 4 of us were looking for a savory breakfast. My daughters fruit was fresh cut. My wife had the Fresh scramble and son had the greek scramble. I had the San Antonio hot. The only compaint was mine wasn't spicy enough. The bacon was awesome thick cut and the homemade bread was great. They are trying to do it all here and as far as breakfast goes they are doing it right. Service was friendly. If you want amazing food in Saranac Lake, this is your place. My fiancé is from Saranac Lake and he introduced me to Blue Moon cafe. I actually asked if we could return tomorrow! The food came out in a timely manner, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very "homey." I loved the unique coffee cups (they really gave the home-esque feel). The bread is obviously made in-house, if not local, and it was toasted just right. They have a variety of selections for the vegetarians, the meat-lovers, the detailed eaters, and the "basic" breakfast eaters alike. I LOVED it here! read more

I'm back in the Adirondacks for a second year, and the Blue Moon is better than ever. it's local, comfortable and casual and the food and coffee are quite good. Last summer, I wasn't happy with my eggs (they were overcooked and greasy), but this year all is well. For breakfast, I've enjoyed both the sweet pepper scramble, and the New York salmon plate is as good as most I've had in NYC. The dinner menu is interesting and varied, and the one meal I've had thus far was terrific. (I had a bowl of minestra, an Italian soup/stew with spicy sausage, chicken, greens, and potatoes.) If you're looking for a casual place near Saranac Lake it's a terrific option, and they have great beer and wine choices and free wi-fi. One word of caution -- they don't do so well when it's busy. I was there one morning when a flock of bicyclists descended on the place, and it was absolute chaos. read more

Let me start by saying when we finally got our food it was pretty good. However, one of four dinners was served with under cooked chicken. We skipped dessert as the display case was left open and fly was all over the assorted desserts. Server was unfriendly and insulting when questioned about adding additional chicken to replace the shrimp in a dish. Four items on menu were not available at 6pm. Owner was overheard yelling at staff about how to clean dishes. Roof leaked. Place is very rundown. At least the food was good. Look for other options. read more
