Not recommended if you'd like to be treated with respect by the chef/owner. Not only was he inflexible ( with no other customers in the place) about making vegetarian alterations, but he intentionally misgendered us despite us asking him not to, and lectured us on how to raise kids ( in front of the kids) to use "proper" gendered terms to refer to us and themselves! Since childhood, and never could say I ever had an exceptional meal, tonight I did,,,the owner cook Ken, waitress Elizabeth..went over the top, you know when the chef visits the tables he is proud of his workI stared with a romaine and radiscio salad, very lightly dressed in a vinegarette..perfect, I had the Boneless Panko bread chicken with tomatoes and mushroom sauce, I opted for only a hint of the fontina cheese, another plus, everything is fresh and made to order. Love this place. Everytime I visit I order something new and am blown away. This time I ordered salmon with kale and pickled veggies and was skeptical because the pickled veggies didn't sound great but it was so amazing. I ate every bite and the veggies were my favorite part. read more

Recently had a very good meal here. Wife - medallions of beef, me - duck. Both very good, in actual fact one of the best meals ever. Beware...no A.C., at least when we went. Very small and only one worker when we went, so service was pretty slow. The only food we enjoyed was the hanger steak and the bread dish. Hanger steak was pretty amazing! The garlic shrimp appetizer was nowhere near the $12 price and the Carbonara was poor. The chef stopped by our table, which would have been nice, yet when he asked how everything was we mentioned that although the steak was great the pasta wasn't very good. Why has no one reviewed the Blue Moose????? It is always busy for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. This is the most interesting, relaxing and enjoyable lunch and breakfast venues in town! Fabulous cards, soaps, towels, colorful and sophisticated Italian kitchen and gift ware; gifts for everyone you need gifts for (if you like or love them)! There is also the very popular cafe, with its fabulous Panini sandwiches, soups, salads, coffee drinks, and baked goods. Really this is the best place in town to sit and chat over a leisurely and delicious lunch or meeting with friends or colleagues, amidst the artwork on display. The owners are friendly and happy to see you, and lunch is often served by the chef himself. And they always burn incense outside the front door! What's not to love????? read more

Seems like a business lunch type of atmosphere. It's nice and quiet if you need to get some work done. The staff has been consistently friendly and the sandwiches are good, although pretty light since I think most of them are vegetarian. Came here for dinner and our meal was perfect from start to finish! The place itself was cute and cozy, and the owner and our waitress were super friendly and accommodating. Our meals came with fresh salads and a warm loaf of bread that was served with 3 delicious spreads. AAAMAZING! This quaint little place is just what the doctor ordered for lunch while traveling from CT through VT on our way to a college graduation at Lyndon State. We started with Nonna's meatballs as an appetizer and they are the real deal (authentic Italian)! I had the grilled cheese w/ tomato basil dipping sauce. The bread was a perfect combination of crispy but not too "bready" or over filling! My husband had the steakburger which was hand pressed & served on a wonderful light roll & absolutely mouthwatering! The owner, Ken, waited on us himself and answered our many questions about the area and give us suggestions which were all perfect. We ended our meal with the homemade carrot cake which was to die for! Everything about this meal from start to finish was incredible! lunch recently....had gone for a ride and were walking around brattleboro and looking for places that were open on monday and we came upon this and decided to give it a try....we were happy we did....it is a little off the downtown beaten track and is a combo store and restaurant, but that will change in the near future (next week i think) with the restaurant moving down on to main street and the store becoming a separate place....service was pleasant and water was kept full, they were not terribly busy....wines 6$ a glass and a limited selection but i liked that, wines were good, burger was excellent and chopped salad ok(nothing special) but we liked it very much and would certainly try it in it's new location once it gets there!!! read more

I was in Brattleboro for a nearby wedding and ate here with some of my family. I had the chicken rigatoni. It was pretty good, but nothing mind-blowing and the chicken was kind of dry. Overall I would totally eat here again if I were ever in the area, but first I would try some of the other places on that street. Last night, my friend and I were walking by when we saw that the Blue Moose was totally empty, not a customer in the place. The chef/owner, cook, and waitress were all standing at the bar, staring out the open front door. "Perfect!" we thought, as we had just left another place after finding out it was on an hour's wait for a table. The waitress was friendly enough when greeting us, but when we said that we needed a table for six, rather than two, as we had four friends coming to join us, she became unpleasant and asked in a nasty tone if our friends were planning on having dinner or "just wandering in and out of the restaurant all night?" (For the record, we're not teenagers intent on nursing a plate of fries between several people, but all professional women in our thirties and forties.) We affirmed that, yes, we would be all dining, and the waitress, looking skeptically around the TOTALLY EMPTY restaurant, said she wasn't sure they could seat us and she'd have to talk to the owner. She took a few steps over to him and they conferred for a couple minutes, looking as if they really did not want to seat us. So ... we left. We actually ended up stopping by two other restaurants that night only to find them entirely packed and on an hour plus wait for a table before staying at a third, where we still waited, as there was a little space at the bar, for an hour for our table. And we certainly didn't mind doing that - but my point is that it seems every restaurant downtown was packed except for the Blue Moose, and with that attitude towards potential customers, I see why. read more

We went here after seeing it on another website. We had reservations at 5, my husband locked the keys in our car, being from out of the state, not a good thing. The owner of the restaurant was kind enough to loan us a hanger and screwdriver, didn't work, after a hour the police came and opened it up, also very nice. At 6:30 we finally got in to eat and it was worth it. Delicious to the last bite. We each had a salad, spaghetti and meatballs, Alfredo, and flat iron steak. Two cokes and two drinks. We went here for dinner last night and had a great meal. Shrimp appetizer, yummy complimentary bread plate with 3 different accompaniments, great salad, and a homemade pasta with vegetables dish. There was enough for another meal, and it was amazing leftover! The wine was excellent and the service was outstanding. Our waitress, Sheri, made us feel very welcome and gave us some great tips for some fun shopping in town as well as other local sights. I had their home-made fettucini and it was divine. The sauce (shrimp and garlic) was good, too. But it was really that fresh, delicate, recognizably homemade by someone who knows what they're doing taste that made me happy. Oh and the price was good, and so was the table wine. Outstanding! We enjoyed everything! We started with an eggplant appetizer, with tomato, cheese and balsamic reduction. It was very tasty. The cauliflower dish was loaded with different flavors. The ziti was cooked just right, with several flavorful cheeses. Mussels were tasty with a hint of spice. Finally, we had a slice of cake with a chocolate top and lots of flavor. This restaurant is a treat. My daughter and I ate here twice during our recent visit to Brattleboro. We tried a few other local restaurants and this was by far our favorite. Dinner was fabulous but do not leave without trying the panna cotta. We shared the cappuccino panna cotta and it was wonderful. The ambiance is nice also. I enjoyed the paintings on the wall while my daughter especially liked the quality of the orange light over the table near the front window.
