Easily the best pizza in Lionshead or Vail Village (sorry Vendettas fans). No, it's not perfect. The wait staff is incredibly hit-or-miss and the pizza tends to be served slightly under-done at times. I do recommend asking for pizza to be served "crispy" or "well done"; this insures that you won't get the "floppy NYC style" that other reviewers mention. In fact, I do this at every pizza joint and it always comes out tasting so much better. Very happy with this place. Beer was good after long day. I was there with the kids. Best thing is that they allow you to order slices of pizza, made to order. They're open even though it doesn't appear so. Construction is still going on inside, menus are on paper (must be temporary), & no beers on draft even though they're listed as such. Waitress seemed bothered we inconvenienced her when we walked in (place was empty) and was lacking in personality that it was uncomfortable to hear her barely speak. So, we have vacationed in Vail over the summer three times (2011, 2016, and now 2018). We used to LOVE this place but didn't have a great experience this time--with the food and the service. First of all, we arrived before the lunch rush on a weekday. We were immediately seated and asked for a high chair and a booster seat. They never came but that's okay, we could walk over and get them ourselves. Then the wait between the drink orders, the drink arrivals, and the actual ordering seemed long... but they were starting to get busier so whatever. Five of us got the lunch special--a slice of pizza, a drink, and a cookie for $6. All the slices of pizza came out cold and took over 30 minutes. Two others got calzones, which took even longer but were piping hot and delicious. Then we had one kids' pizza slice that was also cold. They did heat our slices up after we mentioned they were cold, but they acted shocked that the pizza could be cold. In the past we have had great service here at the Blue Moose. This time we had multiple servers over the 90+ minutes we were there--but no drink refills, no name introductions, and really, no one who seemed to care that we were there. To top all this off, it was a gigantic pain to get our cookies. Our bill came--no cookies. Then we asked for them and the server said he'd put in the order to heat them up, but it'd be 4-5 minutes. Ten minutes later... no cookies. We asked again, and immediately a plate of cold cookies came out. We asked if they could be heated up only to be told that they were. There's no way--the chocolate chips were completely solid. I'm a baker; I know what melty chips look like. By this point we just wanted to leave so I said to my sister, let's just take them back to the condo to heat up there. This time a server hears me and says, "oh no, we can do that for you!" So we wait some more and they never come back. Finally my dad walks around to find the manager, complains about our entire experience. The only response is "sorry." Oh, and the manager brings us a plate of cookies. But they are a different set of cookies than before--these are thick, dense cookies while the first plate was thin and almost brittle. So weird! After reading other reviews I hope plate #1 didn't find its way to someone else's table later. I'm not sure if we'll be back to Vail anytime soon but if we are, I doubt the Blue Moose will be on our list of places to eat. A common occurrence among Tuscan pizzerias is the four seasons pizza- hearty woodland mushrooms, light prosciutto and more. I mention this because I was immediately drawn to Blue Moose's autumn pizza with goat cheese, mushrooms, and truffle oil. It was delicious with a savory smell. Amongst my partner's two sliced, she saved autumn for last. My second slice was the chicken alfredo with bacon (cheers!). Blue Moose Pizza is a great spot to eat after a long day on the mountain. The atmosphere is fun and they have lots of craft beers and a limited bar with the essential mixers along with some specialty cocktails. Blue Moose has great gluten free pizza options. We arrived for a beer. The place is quite modern vs cozy. It's located right by the ice rink so lots of families coming and going. We opted to sit at the bar. They did have Crazy Mountain beers on-tap, which was unique for most of the restaurants in Vail. We had wanted to sample the pizza, but, the bar service was lacking a bit. The bartender seemed very preoccupied with something else. So we opted to pass on food. However, a visitor at the bar overheard us and very graciously offered us a small slice of his pie. WOW! This place has gone down hill big time. Unfortunate given the location, not what you would expect in Vail. Highly recommend against it until they change establishment. Service is horrible. They had no idea their phone was broken for hours. We ordered the Winter Pizza and no fresh Roma tomatoes so they felt sun dried would do, completely different flavor. They said they couldn't make a medium pizza and didn't know how to adjust the crust size so we were told we had no choice but to get a large on our second pizza. They were out of spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, whole wheat crust and the phone was broken for hours with zero knowledge until we told them when we walked over. Major change is needed with whomever is responsible for keeping kitchen stocked and servers, hosts, etc. trained on customer service. Being a NYer, my pizza standards will never be met in Colorado, BUT the Blue Moose was a perfect lunch stop after hitting some of the bowls. I have no idea what the scoop is with their blue margarita, but I'll drink a million of them. I had a slice of the Autumn pizza & my friend had a slice of the Spring pizza. Both of us loved our slices so much that we wouldn't even consider giving a bit to the other. I paired this with the Italian salad, which I wasn't impressed with. My friend, however, loved her Spinach salad. I would definitely visit Blue Moose again if I'm ever in Vail. After a day of rafting, my family and I were starved. We found this cute pizza place and decided to grub. The menu has many pizzas to choose from but you can also make your own. We chose half cowboy and half spring. The cowboy had BBQ sauce, chicken, red onion, and smoked Gouda- delicious! The spring had pesto, artichokes, tomato, and mozzarella. The pizza here is a little below average. +1 for using whole wheat dough as for the ingredients, it didn't seem as fresh. I had half of a Mediterranean salad and half of the Autumn pizza. (Im a sucker for anyone who serves Fat Tire correctly) but their funky pizza's are sure to please. Don't mistake Blue Moose for a Italian place. It's a pizza joint that serves great pizzas (like their buffalo wing pizza). The crowd there is mostly younger (think 20-30 something's). Friendly wait staff run hot pies right to the table so you can gorge after licking your wounds on the mountain. Simply delicious pizza, a good atmosphere, and friendly staff! Really pleased by The Blue Moose when we can here for dinner. They are very accommodating (half-and-half pizzas, gluten free dough, etc.). We ordered one 18" half Chicken Alfredo/half Vegetarian Lasagna, one gluten-free Hawaiian, and one gluten-free buffalo chicken. The pizzas were phenomenal! All fresh ingredients (compared to what we're used to) and the gluten free dough was CLEARLY homemade quality (aka delicious - and if it wasn't homemade, it was the best pre-prepared we've ever had). After having been advised of a 45 min wait, we decided to stick it out and within a VERY short amount of time, we grabbed a seat at the bar. Approximately 5 min later, (maybe a total of 10 min now) we were notified that our table was ready. Within that first five minutes, we saw SO many people essentially turned away by the long wait and yet the wait was incredibly short. Now, I get the concept of under-promise and over-deliver, but if people are leaving it doesnt work. I liked that Blue Moose had a waiting system with text notification, as it would have have allowed us to shop in Lionshead had the wait been longer. I was happy to see a decent selection of local beer on tap, but disappointed by the bland pizza. Don't get me wrong, it was edible, but the sauce was lacking flavor. At the bar tender's recommendation, we also ordered the cheesy garlic bread and totally enjoyed it. Update: I was contacted by a company representative requesting additional details about my visit. My wife and I stopped into the Blue Moose following a long day of shredding tree pow at Vail. This pizza joint is fashionably located in Lionshead village, just steps from the Eagle gondola, and served up a couple of great pieces of 'za. The restaurant was not very crowded for an apres ski establishment and the bartender seemed put off that I only wanted water to drink, however the pizza made up for the blase' atmosphere. As stated in some previous reviews, I prefer my pizza with a thinner crust and minimal toppings, and the cheese slice delivered exactly what I was looking for. In addition, I ordered a slice of the Chupacabra which had Chanterelle mushrooms, goat cheese, parsley and truffle oil...to die for! To reiterate, the Blue Moose is conveniently located, serves up delicious pizza and is definitely worth visiting for a pizza fix. read more

Cute place with a large outdoor patio right in the heart of Lionshead. Perfect location, and us 2 adults and 2 kids split a salad, sandwich, and a couple of slices of pizza all for $32. One of the better values and the food was great! Really delicious pizza, a toasted Italian sandwich with the sauce, a great atmosphere. It is true that the kids working here are way too into themselves (yelling and joking with each other across the room...a couple were obviously high as well), but all in all a nice experience after walking/hiking/skiing through Vail for the day. Quick service, family friendly and the pizza was good. We brought the little one and she enjoyed coloring all over the table (they put a paper table cloth type thing down for coloring on and give you crayons). Pizza is one of those things I feel like you can't really mess up so there's only so much I can write since the pizza was very good. The only downside is that you can't choose your crust. I like the thin crust however my fiancé prefers a thicker crust which wasn't an option.
