I stopped here for dinner on my drive from Denver to Aspen yesterday per a recommendation of my friend in Vail. I was not disappointed. I was able to create my own slice of pizza which is rare in my neck of the woods. I had that slice and some garlic cheese bread and both were great. The service was what to expect from a mountain town pizza joint. It was mostly young high school staffers but they were friendly and they had way more workers than they needed. What surprised me most was the price. The food was great and extremely reasonably priced. It cost about $10 per person in our group before tip. I always expect to pay a premium in the mountain towns but this was more in line with what I'm used to in the midwest. Maybe it's because we were outside skiing all day, but this pizza was great! The pepperoni and veggie selections were large and carbo-satisfying thin crust delights. Our waiter was slammed with too many tables but we weren't in a hurry, and no one rushed us out of the busy place. We returned a couple days later for take-out -- now that's the way to go! Blue Moose uses a great app to let you know your place in line and everyone else ahead of you, anonymously...you only see the first letter of their reservation name. Very bad experience! My family is here on vacation and wanted pizza. The restaurant was not busy and after a long day on the slopes we asked for a booth so our daughter could be comfortable. The hostess/manager said they save them for larger groups. As we went to be seated we saw how many tables were open and asked again for booth. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the majority of the poor reviews for this pizza joint. The place is filthy, full stop. That includes the seating areas, the plates, glassware and silverware. I guess we should have expected this given the fact that they pull up a trash can to the edge of the table to dump the left overs in when the table is being bussed. The bathrooms are disgusting with empty soap dispensers and no paper towels. When we informed the staff of this, the response was "yeah, we close in 30 minutes". Huh? We'd like to wash our hands before we eat!! The staff was not too attentive. We ordered and were served, but drinks were missing. When we inquired about our missing drinks, the waiter insisted on seeing the receipt to prove that we ordered the drinks. It took a further 10 minutes for the draft beers to arrive. The food is mediocre quality and taste. I guess this place survives despite the average food and poor service since they're located in such a great location, but we won't return. read more

Great experience. From the beginning to the end. Solid 4 star experience. We had to wait on a table but the host was very friendly and kept us up to date on the status of our table. The waiter was friendly and brought us our drink and food orders in a very timely fashion. The food was delicious. Every person in our group of 5 was happy with their meal. On top of that the waiter noticed that our bill was about $8 more than it was supposed to be and he came and voided out the last ticket and corrected it. We tried to eat dinner here tonight. Although the restaurant was basically empty, the hostess told us we would have a 30 minute wait. We asked to sit outside. She then proceeded to tell us all these ridiculous rules like, if it rains we can't open the umbrella for you (which each table outside has), if it rains you can't move inside, if you sit at the bar and order anything, you can't move to a table....we then left and received a text within 3 minutes that our table was ready??? What was the point in making us feel unwanted when 3 minutes later all would have been fine? Maybe Blue Moon needs a new hostess or new rules...but they for sure lost a few customers with their lack of welcoming attitude and absurd rules. read more

I am very sorry to report that my three beautiful nephews went on their own (16, 13, abd 10) to have pizza at Blue Moose (which we have loved and visited often over the last decade) and, although they were seated, they were completely snubbed by the wait staff and were NEVER SERVED. My oldest nephew tried to get the attention of one server who simply pointed to another server (presumably to explain that he was not responsible for their table) and NO ONR EVER CAME TO SERVE THEM. My very polite nephews finally gave up and left without dinner after waiting for 45 minutes. I am savagely disappointed that these three boys could be so mistreated at an establishment in Vail that we have loved and frequented over the years. My brother-in-law has now called the establishment to let them know our disappointment over what had happened, and all the manager had to see was "uh, sorry." Wow. Turns out my Vail Epic Pass not only includes unlimited skiing but also one unlimited epic failure at the Blue Moose. On Oct. 4 our soccer team had dinner there on our recommendation. We learned it's under new management, was recently remodeled and just reopened (all from the wait staff). So many things went wrong and I give credit to the wait staff for doing their best, but management and ownership need to figure this out. The place was busy due to a soccer tournament in town. Then a cook and a bartender both walked off the job. It took forever to order, forever for food to come, food came out in very disorganized ways leaving all tables with some people eating and others not. Drinks came slowly or not at all, $13 glass of wine was barely a two ounce pour, some caesar salads were for two people as described and others were barely enough for one, two of the separate checks got combined and we had to Venmo our friends to make it right, some items on the menu were not available because "they hadn't finalized the winter menu." The whole catastrophic meltdown lasted nearly three hours. As for the food, my pizza was good but my wife's was not. The caesar salad dressing had way too much anchovy paste. This place used to be SOOO good. In summary I really felt bad for the wait staff, cooks and bartender because their management totally failed them by not planning their reopening it seems at all. The other shops in the Lionshead center should be embarrassed to have the Blue Moose there. I'm so disappointed and embarrassed that I recommended to our soccer team that we ate there. read more

I had heard good things about Blue Moose Pizza and decided to try it out during a work trip that took us to Vail for the month of June. We sat on the patio because it was a beautiful summer evening (aren't they all!). The atmosphere is very pleasant on the patio for an al fresco meal, right in the heart of Lionshead, with large carts full of flowers in view. I ordered the Margherita Pizza because that is often a favorite of mine, but I was disappointed. I found the crust to be quite dry, and the crust around the edges was too wide, leaving too much of the pizza without sauce, cheese or toppings. Especially true in light of the dry nature of the crust! I even asked for a side of red sauce to dip my crust in, but that didn't improve the crust as much as I had hoped. The friends we were dining with weren't impressed either. If you are looking for good pizza in Vail, I would highly recommend Old Forge Pizza instead! We had pizza from three different pizza joints during our stay, and Old Forge was the one we ended up returning to and craving! read more
