They use to have the world's best Eclairs I (which i understand may possibly had there origin from Guann at Stone Soup) have had and I travel quite a bit. It is not until this past year things have changed, you might say things have gotten very grainy! There was always a balance between the ultra smooth, not so sweet, Chantilly like cream filling and the sweetness that is derived from the chocolate laiden pastrie cap that all made for the perfect bite. Sad to say this is not the case anymore. Smooth has faded to make way for a grainy, inferior filling. If we are paying a premium price shouldn't it be better then Entermenn's? This place is no joke. I don't know how they survive out on rt 28 but somehow they do. The food is all obviously home made (I peeked in the back and saw them cooking!) and extremely high quality. I picked up some sandwiches and some stuff from the display for lunch. The panini took a little while to come out but they have plenty of cold stuff that's ready to go. There are a few tables around the side past the cash register, and some coolers with interesting food and drinks to go. The counter was busy when we walked in, and it was unclear where to order, but we were in no hurry, and the service was very courteous once it was our turn. There are signs above of where to order and where to pay. The Blue Mountain Bistro-To-Go Feel Good Food is a delicious stop on Route 28 in Kingston, NY. You can enjoy your takeout in a lovely intimate dining room round back. We shared a Primavera Panini (filled with grilled zucchini, eggplant, roasted tomato and fresh mozzarella, basil aïoli) and a side of the hoisin brussel sprouts. The veggie potstickers were incredible, and my mother-in-law walked out with two dozen. After we added these delicious yummy's to our tummies, we picked up a few items from the bakery: chocolate eclair, magic dream bar, pecan brownie & an assortment of cookies. We left with a very large bag and big smiles on our faces! PS: I accidentally left my Coach purse dangling on a chair. I've cooked for the last 45 years. I worked in restaurants and some of NYC's most famous delis when i was a younger, so I know food pretty well. This is a great spot. Sandwiches are delicious, nice mix of ingredients, fresh, plentiful, staff is nice. Just ate there today, I missed the turkey club so much I was craving it. I'd like to give Bistro-to-Go a better recommendation, but since it was sold the quality has gone down a few notches, the per item entrees have gotten smaller, and the prices have gone up beyond our comfort zone. The last two times we were there we requested they select rare steak for us, since prior to that the meat was cooked too long (near well done). They said it was all rare, but when we cut into them they were barely pink. Twice. At $ 30+/lb, they should offer to cut the steak to guarantee it's what the customer requests. Noting the prices had gone up, I asked if they charged a percentage for using a credit card and was told they decided to just raise their prices for everyone since some customers were ticked off they were being charged more. Well, yeah. But if you put up a sign that you are now charging more for using a cc, there won't be any surprises. If I knew there was a choice, I would've paid cash. Treat your customers well and we'll be back. read more

Not only did they refuse to give me the piece of cake we wanted, but when we asked for it, a young staff member, clearly annoyed, threw a plastic container on the table with aggression. If we're heading up to Woodstock, this is one way we rarely hit. It was good timing we did and a nice surprise to see Blue Mountain in this area. Way past lunch and decided on a quick nosh and some sweet goodies to bring with us to our hotel. It's not a restaurant, not a deli, not even a pastry shop. I know it's a mouthful- but it's actually a little bit of everything plus more in between. Pastry counter on the left and what seems like glass display cases from end to end- full of already-prepared sandwiches and salads. And from my angle, salads are nowhere near a sloppy mess and drenched in mayo. Top to bottom wooden shelves filled with canned and jar goods and tables in the back- if you want to eat-in. Picked up Vegetarian and meat sandwiches for us. And couldn't leave without Sweets- so headed for a few Linzer cookies, Chocolate Chip Cookies and of course......a Chocolate Mousse cup. Stupendous catering! I ordered large platters and a salad for a surprise party. Just days before the event, my friend came down with Covid and was unable to make the cake; the bakery staff graciously agreed to take on making a cake for 25 people. This last minute assistance was literally the icing on the cake! The food and especially the cake - were exceptional in every way. Easy to work with, generous portions, excellent food, beautifully displayed trays and reasonably priced. This was my first time utilizing their catering services and I would use them again in a heartbeat! This party was for a foodie...someone with a knowledgeable palate and this experience was literally 5 star! The service is a little slow, but the food is delicious so overall, still worth it! They don't heat up your food unless you explicitly ask them to though, which I didn't realize. And I wasn't a huge fan of the type of wrap they used for the vegan thai peanut veg wrap but other than that everything tasted fresh and the peanut sauce was great! This is also about a 1 minute drive from the onteora lake trailhead so it has that going for it too! read more

Glorified Deli. Stopped there on the way to my sister's house in Shokan, and when I arrived at around 5, they said they closed the grill at 4. So, no grilled foods for me. And no bacon on sandwiches. I thought it weird they were still open and serving but closed grill. Ah well, got a couple of sandwiches (1 turkey, 1 chicken) and I have to say, they were nothing outstanding. Fresh tasting: yes. Special: No. Flavor: meh. The accompanying coleslaw salads weren't killing it either. Bread wasn't anything to write home about. I've had better sandwiches in Rhinebeck and uptown Kingston. It's honestly a bit hit or miss here. Staff is extremely nice and helpful but the food is just okay. It does taste very fresh, but most of the time is lacking any flavor. My favorite item is the thai peanut wrap and their panini's are also quite good but I wish they had more vegetarian options. Called ahead to pick up a lunch order for three adults and a teen. Our order was ready when we arrived 25 to 30 minutes later, so there was no wait! This was my first panini; I got the artichoke and spinach one and it was absolutely delicious. I mean, I was feeling full before I finished it and it was challenging for me to put sone of it aside for later, but so did and was so glad later. The bite I had of the teen's Tuscany sandwich was equally enjoyable and the two other made to order sandwiches were devoured quickly and happily. Everyone who wanted potato chips was able to get their preferred flavor (BBQ and Jalapeño). Finally, the teen loved the mini chocolate chip cookies and coconut macarons. Mary Anne and the staff at Blue Mountain Bistro did an absolutely outstanding job at my daughter's wedding yesterday. From start to finish we received first-class service and food. Mary Anne worked with us for a year to help us plan the food and equipment for an outdoor wedding. We felt very special at the tasting as we sat in a private dining room, and tried all their tasty appetizers and entrées . As the wedding time approached she was on top of all the preparations. Wouldn't you know it though, on the day of the wedding it was pouring rain. I mean pouring! That was when I became really impressed with Mary Anne and her staff. Working while thoroughly drenched, they moved all the equipment into that our tent and hung sides on the tent to keep the guests dry, and the party on track. The food was wonderful, starting with the appetizers -- chicken satay, falafel, mac and cheese pops, lamb meatballs, and lobster rolls. The guests raved about these. Her artisan cheese platter was also wonderful, I could've eaten there all day. For entrées we had a buffet of chicken and fillet mignon, which were both done perfectly and again the guests raved. My only disappointment was that there were not more leftovers for us to take home. I wish I could give them more than five stars, because under the terrible working conditions I think Mary Anne and her staff were wonderful. Even though they were completely wet for hours, they all had smiles on their faces and were eager to help us with all the little things that go into running a wedding. Since we only have one daughter, we will have to invent excuses to hire them in the future. You shouldn't wait though, hire them now. read more

Stopped in here on Friday night and stocked up on some incredible food for the weekend. They've got everything here to satisfy carnivores, vegans & vegetarians which is rare around there. They made me a delicious crab cake sandwich to go (not on the menu) that was perfect. The service was friendly and helpful (I don't know what others are complaining about). Bought a couple soups that were great: potato leek & veggie chili. They've got interesting desserts/chocolates/brownies that cater to those with food/additive sensitivities which is much appreciated. Lots of agave-sweetened stuff to be found (in addition to regular sugar-sweetened). My only complaint is that I wish they were open later on Friday & Saturday nights. Best custom bakery around. Took vapor wave inspired art to them for inspiration less than a week in advance to ordered a cake for my teen. Couldn't bring a cake from our regular NYC baker and have never found a custom maker in the area. Was floored with taste, quality and the effort and design They know their stuff. The food was NOT OVERPRICED, like many other restaurants are, quite reasonable for what you get. Someone who once experienced "bad service" does not ruin the food of a restaurant. I love the variety and quality of food at Bistro-to-go. The paninis are perfectly toasted, the mashed potatoes are heavenly, their meats and their vegetable mixes are always cooked just right. The soups are delicious too. They make these amazing Thai rice cakes, and their chickens wings are great. If you get there early on a weekday, try one off the breakfast sandwiches...i don't know what they do to those eggs but they get 'em fluffy as a cloud. I find that sometimes the flavors of their salads (tuna salad, potato salad, etc) are too strong (too much vinegar or onion or horseradish or something) but maybe that just a matter of preference. If you're interested in the sweet side, I recommend the cookies. The cakes are ok; the ones I've tried were a bit rich...but their cookies are lovely, I especially love the pecan lace, banana oat, and an oatmeal one that tastes more like shortbread. Great macaroons too. Sometimes it is busy, but take a number and be assertive and they will soon get to you. It's true that the kitchen staff looks like an intimidating bunch but...they aren't the serving staff. They make awesome food, I don't care if they are back there scowling! The servers/counter staff are always polite to me. Are they all the super bubbly smiley types? No. But they are polite and professional...and I can be a high-maintenance customer so I know! This place is great. If you are looking to grab quick lunch take out that is healthy and delicious, this is the place to do it. I usually get a chicken Caesar wrap. They put croutons in the wrap! It adds an awesome crunch to the sandwich. Now that i think about it, it is actually one of the few food items that i get a craving for and cant rest until i finally eat it. The dressing is classic Caesar and the chicken is always fresh and wonderful. You can get it fried or grilled, which is a nice option to have. I does get busy in there around lunch time. I see some of the other reviews said negative things about that. In my opinion, they do a great job. it isnt McDonalds and some types of food take longer to put together than others. If the person behind you in line got their meal before you, and you are in that much of a rush, dont order something so complicated! Remember, you are eating here because it is fast food that is NOT fastfood. Also you can call ahead and place an order to pick up. There have been several occassions where I call around 10am to place an order for pickup at noon. If your life is so crazy that you cant wait 5 minutes for a fresh home cooked meal, then PLAN AHEAD.
