Stopped by this restaurant on a family road trip....and I honestly wish we had just grabbed a snack at the Mobil station up the road. Reviewed the menu before heading there, and it sounded epic. Unfortunately it wasn't anywhere near epic. There is an extremely overpowering scent when you walk into the building that isn't pleasant. It's not a food smell, but almost a sulfur water smell. This should have been our first red flag, but we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. We were seated and ordered. Both of the appetizers we ordered were out of stock. But we didn't know this until after we placed our order, as the waitress was not aware. When we finally found an appetizer that was available, they brought it out to us with "extras on them" which consisted of flimsy fried green beans and some sort of fried shrimp. The entire basket was awful. My daughter ordered pancakes which were served with zero butter and seemed to be the texture of sand. The fries reminded me of the ones you got in the school cafeteria. My son and I ordered a panini, which were cold sandwiches on sandwich flats that had grill marks dyed on them. This is perhaps the worst "restaurant" I've ever been to. My high school cafeteria had better food than this rat trap. When you see this place on Rte 199, just keep driving no matter how hungry you think you may be. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich that obviously started as a frozen hockey puck. Food price / quality rating 8. The atmosphere is "roadhouse". This place has "open mic" nights, and sometimes live entertainment. The menu is a mix of well chosen sandwiches and some unique food ensembles. The dining area is open with a small bar. I had the Pesto Grilled Chicken Wrap. The wrap was a tomato/basil wrap, which was excellent. A generous amount of chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion and cheddar. It came with potato chips, but for $2 or $3 more you can get fries or a salad with it. They have one beer and one cider on tap, and many canned and bottled beers. The wife had the Fiesta Bowl and especially liked the sweet potato in it. This place is certainly a great hangout, and they serve breakfast all day long! Came in with friends for a late lunch. Menu looked great and I really wanted to like this place, but it fell short in several ways. 1. The Po'boy. Po'Boys are served on crusty french bread and filled with ingredients. This Po'Boy was a thin piece of fish on a ciabatta roll that looks like it came from Sysco. Zero flavor. 2. The Naughty Rooster was basically the same sandwich, except with a piece of fried chicken. Same roll. Uninspired. 3. Salad was ok. Nothing spectacular, but a little lacking considering the price - especially since adding steak added $10 to the cost, which was a lot for a little bit of steak 4. Mac and Cheese was bland. Looked and tasted like it was simple velveeta mac and cheese in a small crock. The order was also a bit messed up. The Po'Boy was supposed to come with fries, the Rooster with Sweet potato. They were swapped. Not a huge issue on it's own, but just one of a 1000 cuts. The coup de resistance - the bill. There were 5 of us. We were the only ones there. When the bill came, it included a gratuity (18%) + a service charge + credit card charge. Gratuity was calculated on Total + tax + service charge. It's one thing to charge a tip ahead of time, but then to build it on top of tax is disingenuous and without warning or notice on the menu - which is required. Overall the food was ok, not great. But, then you consider the prices the automatic charging of the tip and it was definitely not up to par. I work in the food industry, so I understand what things cost - but these were NYC prices without the quality or level of service to back it up. read more

Such a cute and delicious little find only about a mile off the Taconic State Parkway heading towards Redhook New York. While I was traveling north I found myself a bit hungry so I pulled off the Taconic heading into red hook to grab a bite to eat when I discovered this hidden little gem. Boasting a diverse menu focused on what I would consider southern comfort food it lists such things as Louisiana cage in gumbo, gourmet mac & cheese, or healthier selections such as pesto grilled chicken wrap. Prices are extremely reasonable and they have a healthy adult beverage selection. For those of you passing by on Sunday they have live music from 12 to 2. Stephanie the owner, is also runs local nonprofit business to support veterans through her equine therapy program. Stephanie also donates her precious time to volunteer on the local rescue squad. Really wanted to like this place, cute building and nice ambiance. I got the steak strip sandwich. It had 8 small pieces of steak on a huge soft roll, so it was more of a horseradish flavored bun. Crab cakes were uninspired and small and cost $24. Not worth it. They were also missing the sauce listed on the menu. They ran out of fish and another side I ordered. I feel like they probably ran out of steak too but decided to go for it. Understandable when you are "farm to table" but come on. The fries are legit from a bag. Unfortunately we won't be back for lunch or dinner. Might give breakfast a go in the future because like I said, I really want to like this place. read more

After having so many dinners sent to us via Red Hook Responds from this location, we finally put our money out through a third-party delivery service offered by this steakhouse/diner this past night (through DoorDash). But although I thought I had seen it all, the ordering process was ordinary for only two House Beef Burgers when they arrived they could have been more attractive. They came with a salad and an Italian-like dressing (which on the receipt says had an additional cost attached even though it wasn't as described, coming via DoorDash) and when we bit into the burgers they tasted quite bland because they didn't allow modifications for doneness via the DoorDash ordering screen for both and found the burgers to be way overdone, we weren't impressed, and far not impressed than what we once found using them through their Red Hook Responds alliance. They had no sauces - and only came with a small piece of lettuce and two slices of tomato (however small that one piece was). We needed food, so we just kept eating them, and because we were so far away from the restaurant to travel to them and without a car - transport to there was found to be not worth the travel - so I sure hope our delivery person found everything there to be okay from what she saw, because from what we saw, I don't think it'll be too short a wait until our next order (maybe in a few years again). read more

Was driving home from Vermont to NYC. Looking for a place to have a bite to eat and stumbled across this gem. When you first walk in, it looks very rustic- like or as one commenter said, a cabin. Love the whole feel of it all. Jacob, our waiter, was extremely polite and made substituting easy. We got a pulled pork sandwich and an Italian panini. Both came out fantastic!!! For me, it was one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had. I would definitely visit this place again!!! read more

I wanted to be able to write a positive review but the food experience was so poor I have no choice. Before I begin I will say that our waitress was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Two egg dishes were ordered; simple eggs sunny side up with bacon and scrambled eggs. I ordered a pancake short stack with bacon. We waited a good twenty minutes for this order in a not crowded place. The short stack did not come accompanied with the little fruit cup or syrup as pictured. Ok..the menu didn't mention either. The bacon..well, not sure one would call it that; all fat, a strange color and extremely salty.. not edible. The sunny side up eggs were under-done. The real kicker was the two slices of toast that accompanied the egg orders were not buttered. When we asked for butter, we received two covered condiment cups with ONE THIN SLICE of butter in each. Literally, not enough for one slice of bread. Needless to say...I recommend you find someplace else if you're looking for a decent breakfast. read more

I stopped in recently for dinner. I had the crab cakes which are made on premises with lump crab and served with a spicy remoulade sauce and fresh spring mix salad. Everything was delicious and great paired with a good cold Chardonnay. The dining room is large with lots of windows for great natural lighting. I asked how the Honey Sriracha Fried Chicken Sandwich was, and I was told it was great -- one of the most popular dishes! Well, the "fried chicken" is a four-inch circular frozen "chicken" "patty" like you'd find in the deep recesses of an abandoned supermarket frozen aisle section. It's worse than any generic fast food you'd order, let alone something that is served in a seated establishment. It's most likely not even chicken. The other food ranged from poor to fine, and I understand that there aren't a ton of options in this area. But there is a giant Hannafords within driving distance ... just get your own groceries and make a delicious meal at home. read more

Horribly disappointed. I went there a while ago and food was good. No complaints. Yesterday, we ordered take-out. Two BLTS with French fries, one chicken siracha and the chicken PO-boy sandwiches. Sandwiches are good but the french fries (frozen kind) are the chips are not homemade but rather straight from the bag. The shock factor for me was that for a 60 dollar bill there was an almost 4 dollar surcharge and over a 12 dollar tip. A tip for takeout with no utensils, ketchup or even napkins. Stopped in for lunch on a week day with one other person. Short version: The service was atrocious but the food delicious. The server did not know the answers to quite literally any of our questions. (i.e. What is the soup of the day? What ciders do you have on tap? Can I get a side salad with this dish?) She had to "go ask" to get all the information, which were all standard inquiries having to do with basic server knowledge stuff. Her first day on the job? Maybe. Regardless, woefully under-trained. we attended the Millbrook Winery August 12th event that included the Cider brothers roadhouse food truck. We literally waited over an hour before we asked for our money back. Apparently they were having an issue with their fryer but they handled the problem VERY poorly. They were extremely disorganized and kept on going back and forth between changing customer orders. When we had enough and I walked up to the window I saw on the grill what looked like TWO orders for their steak sandwiches. ALL these people standing around being frustrated and they were cooking 1 order at a time. One of the reason we went to this winery was to check out this food truck for possibly catering our backyard wedding next year. I would NEVER consider using this people. They are highly incompetent and should not be in this business. read more

Incredibly disappointing and over priced. My good friend and I stopped in here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. We were excited to find a cute roadside place for lunch. Unfortunately we were quickly disappointed. Despite the menu looking very appetizing our orders were not at all true to the description on the menu. In fact my order seemed to be something completely different but when I asked the waitress she assured me this was what I ordered despite it missing half the ingredients and not looking anything like what the menu described. The waitress was quite young and seemed inexperienced and rather unprofessional. I had a horrible stomachache after my meal and was up all night with food poisoning. My friend ordered a "Cider" and it turned out to be an IPA beer. When we asked the waitress she told us it was cider. And then when we asked her if the IPA was a Cider she told us yes..... Amazing lunch! During COVID, they give you the option to dine inside or outside, but we opted for outside. We were seated on a cute picnic table outside in the grass next to the parking lot. It was really nice--we sat with our backs to the sun and there was the perfect amount of wind. My boyfriend, the breakfast fanatic, got the breakfast burger, which he enjoyed. I ordered the honey sriracha chicken sandwich and it was perfection. The chicken was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Happiness is a sunny day by the road, the crispy coleslaw rounding out the bite of chicken while pockets of sauce drip down your fingers. The steak fries I selected to go with my entree could not rightfully be considered a side--they were an equal counterpart to the chicken sandwich. Normally, steak fries are too soggy and too potato-y for me, but these were perfect. We got fried pickles and pumpkin cheesecake to go. I love sour things, although the fried pickles' exterior was a little salty for me. The pumpkin cheesecake was excellent, though, and the entire meal was an amazing value. read more

My first time here for a bit of take away, I had plans to come back for their weekend menu, but after what i received for take away i don't plan to be back. The special for the day was a buffalo chicken mac & cheese, & they had this amazing photo of it covered in oozing melted cheese. What i received looked like absolute trash. But hey, maybe it still tasted good. No luck there either. =( The pasta was very bland either no salt in the water or not enough. & the pasta was WAY over cooked, it was just complete mush. You couldn't pick it up on your fork, it just fell apart. The disappointing part of it was that their "buffalo chicken" was freezer bags of tyson breaded buffalo chicken bits. They bought someone else's processed food to add to their dish. =( But that wasn't even the worst, just the most disappointing. The worst was the cheese, they had this photo of this bowl of macaroni covered in delicious melted stringy cheese. Yet what i received was pasta that had this odd thick yet very runny colored milk all over it. It was like they had rendered down a brick of velveeta watered it down with a ton of milk & red's hot sauce & then made it gluey by adding in some flour. There was NO actual cheese, none. It made me feel sick & i just could not finish it. I also ordered some "steak fries". Now typically when i hear steak fries i'm thinking nice large thick chunks of fries. What i received were soggy batonnet cuts of potato. They were dark brown as if they had been cooked, but they were not cooked they were just soaked with oil. They were so saturated that they could not stand on their own, & my fingers were slick with oil after picking just one up. Needless to say that i did not eat a single one of them. & as you can see the portion size for an order of their fries is teeny tiny. The other problem that I have with this place is their menu. There are NO drinks. There are no desserts. & no prices on certain items, like their sides. Who wants to go to a restaurant that doesn't have any drinks? That's why we got take away. read more

Have given this new place a few tries since they opened and would rather drive farther to get decent food. First time we went for mothers day brunch, not terrible but nothing to write home about. Ordered pick up a month ago - called in and drove down about 15 minutes later. They didn't start cooking the order until we arrived and then had to wait 20 more minutes for a simple omelette and a breakfast sandwich. Omelette was completely burnt, bacon inside was barely distinguishable. Breakfast sandwich was on a hamburger bun and had an odd plastic taste. Maybe their lunch is better but not planning on finding out. read more

Please save yourself and do not go to this restaurant. I don't like to criticize restaurants because its tough out there, but this place needs a change of management, or to be shut down completely. First of all, the other reviews are correct that the food takes an exorbitant amount of time to reach you. There is a sign in the front that says something along the lines of "This isn't fast food, it takes a long time to cook" so this is obviously a recurring problem. So we ordered what we thought would be easy ( 3 BLTs) but it still took about an hour to arrive. All would have been forgiven if the food was satisfying but it was jarringly poor quality. The waitress apologized for the fries being so dark by saying, "The oil in the fryer is really old, so that's why they are so brown" To me that is quite dangerous, serving food from a fryer THEY KNOW needs to be cleaned. We cautiously ate just a few fries and felt nauseous for the rest of the day, But the lack of cleanliness was not surprising either. There was no manager present in the restaurant and the cooks in the visibly messy kitchen were very young. The BLTs were small, served on basic store-bought Sysco sliced bread, and VERY soggy, as if they were dunked in water. This restaurant needs to do some soul-searching if it intends to remain a business. For now, don't eat here. read more

Dropped by an hour before closing and we were cheerfully welcomed in. We chose burgers and since we like medium well we are pretty picky as they can often be dried out. These were perfectly juicy and with a side of crispy crunchy fries were just what we needed after a 6 hour drive. Next time we are in the area we will definitely stop in read more

Wow! Wasn't expecting that! What a great lunch! Cajun style. The pulled pork sandwich was very good! It had the flavor of just like New Orleans! My friends had the chicken po' boy and the shrimp po'boy, and enjoyed every last bite! We did begin with the fried pickles, and found out after that you could ask for the spicier sauce. I was at an event with their food truck. I got the honey Sriracha chicken sandwich and it was so good that I cried. It was also my birthday lunch, and I have never had a better sandwich since. I went to the restaurant today, and again I was blown away. The service was amazing (shout out to the lovely waitress she was very sweet) and the food was really good. We had the smoked brisket and it was so tender that there was no need for a knife, I had the sandwich, and my sister had the BLT which she loved.
