One of my favourite restaurants in North Rustico! Be sure to make a check in beforehand or come early though - the place is very popular and there can be quite a wait during peak dining times, but there's no reservations allowed. After waiting for 20 minutes, we were able to snag a lovely and breezy seat on the upper patio. We got a bunch of things to share among the four of us, and quite enjoyed each one! Seafood Chowder: This dish was wonderfully creamy, with chunks of fish and scallops within. There was, however, quite a decent amount of potatoes. Really depends on your preference! Lobster roll: This came served with a side of potato salad, and contained a fair bit of lobster. I did find it to be a bit too overly creamy; I prefer a more simple dressing. Mussels: Mussels galore! At a price of only $14, this dish was a steal. We were served a huge bowl of mussels (filled to the brim), and the broth was very delicious and wonderful. Yummy! Seafood Charcuterie Board: I don't think that this dish was worth its price of $29 (when I ordered, I thought it was $26), but it was definitely a great experience! My personal favourite was the smoked mackerel (I loved it so much that I bought it someplace afterwards, but it just wasn't smoked the same) and fish jerky, but my family also enjoyed the chutneys and jams. The cheese was also quite delicious! Service is quite friendly, and the place is beautifully renovated - it really gives off a beach vibe! This is a really nice restaurant that is a must try if you find yourself in Prince Edward Island. This place is located in a small but well known town on the island called Cavendish, Prince Edward Island. We stopped here after visiting the Anne of Green Gables site that is also in Cavendish or close too! Here we got mussels that were done in a garlic and blueberry ale and were pretty good! We also got a highly recommended lobster dip and it was amazing! This place has really nice decor too! read more

All of our meals were delicious. We enjoyed the location by the water with a great view. We ate inside because it was a little cool the night we were there but would love to go back again and eat on the patio area overlooking the water. Five stars all around. Food was great but expensive and I came from the US. It's basically US prices minus the tip after the exchange. One issue -they have a mudhole on the way to the restaurant that several people stepped on that day and they are prepared with a water can to have you wash your feet after you sink to your ankles. That's great. It ruined a pair of great European sandals: I approached the manager and ask why they don't place a cone to warn people and he said it was a touchy issue with the strip of land .. so he lets people step on it over filling it with some sand. As i was talking to him two other people sank in mud. thought I'll put it here maybe they will actually do something about it. read more

Great restaurant! A must if you visit PEI during the summer. Atmosphere was very cozy. The restaurant does not take reservations, so be prepared to wait! That being said, we arrived around 1 pm and only waited ~15 min for three of us, which was about the wait time they told us. We were lucky to sit on the patio upstairs, even though the restaurant is pretty much on the water, it wasn't cold at all! We started with oysters and mussels which were delicious. My parents had the chowder, which was super yummy. I ate the seafood chowder poutine - super delicious but pretty heavy, I couldn't finish! Our waiter was really nice and prompt. It was pretty quiet on the patio but a bit louder downstairs. Definitely check this place out and take a walk on the docks while you wait for your table! read more

The classic mussels in wine sauce were amazing, although the broth was too briny for dunking bread or sipping. The Rustico Bay oysters were a little disappointing--also pretty briny compared to other PEI oysters; but it's August, which isn't prime oyster season. The seafood chowder was fabulous--very creamy; a little heavy on potatoes (which I assume were PEI potatoes). The deserts were also terrific. Truly great service. read more

It's one of the nicest ocean front restaurant on the Island. The service has ALWAYS been excellent. The food is exceptional. We have a Cottage in the area and try and get there at least every couple weeks. It's always busy during the summer months. With no reservations, it's best to use Yelp for posting yourself for a time and the amount of guests on the present day/evening you're going. DON'T be late or the table is gone. The food is high quality there as always. Four stars is for poor waitress's service. A girl with long blond curly hair had better things to do than serving our table. She would rather sit and chat with another guest-friend than do her job. Serving a lunch with one meal per person and a dessert took her almost three hours. Otherwise the place is great. read more

We were told about this restaurant by someone on the island far away from North Rustico. They said take advantage of the lack of tourists to go and we did. We were not disappointed. A friend once told me that the best seafood chowder can only be found where you can smell the ocean, and Blue Mussel Cafe is a strong testament to this fact. Our party of 2 arrived early afternoon on a Tuesday and we were seated fairly quickly with a minimal wait! Some of the signage on the walls warns about wait times and further states that no reservations are allowed, so I'd guess that there's sometimes a wait to content with! Any reasonable wait at this joint would be well worth it. We ordered the beer and lime mussels to split and each had a seafood chowder. The beer and lime mussels were incredibly fresh and cooked with a Gahan blueberry ale which gave it a unique taste that worked well with the lime. The seafood chowder was packed with fresh seafood of all kinds: mussels, scallop, fish. It also came with a delicious homemade biscuit and maple butter that they make in house. And if the food isn't enough, the vibe of the place can't be beat: outdoor patio seating, a rustic blue colour throughout the restaurant, and boats driving past along the water. This was the best dining experience of our Maritimes vacation! Totally lived up to the hype. Best part? We ended up having quite a late lunch (around 1:30-2) and there was only a 5 minute wait for a table. This should be on your "must do" list for P.E.I. The drive to get there was beautiful and the restaurant itself is perfectly situated on the water. Since it was a bit chilly/windy out, we sat inside the warm and sunny enclosed patio but we still got a great ocean view and the whole atmosphere was perfect "beach vacation." Super relaxing and very friendly service. And the food was amazing! It was so hard to decide what to order because it all looked so good. I ended up having the seafood bubbly bake ($24), which is basically a chowder smothered in cheese. Rich, creamy, so good. All of the seafood in it was great but the halibut stood out as the most delicious. My husband actually ordered the halibut as his dish ($30). The waitress told us that it had been caught that morning and was the size of our table! Needless to say, it was so fresh and actually made me like fish, which I usually don't. My dish came with a nice, fresh salad as well (greens, carrots, beets, tomatoes, cucumbers, and candied nuts in a light, fruity vinaigrette). For dessert we couldn't decide on one to split so we ended up ordering both a chocolate potato cake and the blueberry pie...and I regret nothing. Though, if you have to choose, go with the blueberry pie. Tasted like a home baked pie! Finally, one of the highlights for me personally were their mocktails. As a pregnant lady it can be boring to get water over and over, and it was so nice to see so many interesting mocktails on the menu! My favorite was the strawberry one ($6). We loved the Blue Mussel Cafe. The food and the drinks were supremely good, but the service was exceptional. We were waited on by Kelly. She was not only a very attentive waitress, she had so much sparkle as a person, she made our whole evening fun. We had the fish and crackerboard appetizer, the pickles and gravlax were particularly good, we split a salad which had beets and candied nuts which was also good, but the salad dressing was remarkable. My husband had the lobster Thermador, and I had the halibut. We had ordered too much food but had our leftovers the next day for mid-morning. Both my husband and I can't recommend the Blue Mussel enough. It made our stay in North Rustico very memorable. read more
