On our first night in town, we went to Claddagh's. From the outside, the building looked nice but unassuming, so I was surprised to find the inside had an upscale, polished vibe. At first, I thought I should've worn a button-down shirt, but I quickly noticed a mix of attire--some people dressed up, others in shorts--so it felt welcoming and relaxed. We started with oysters, which were absolutely delicious--completely different from the ones I've had in Florida. For my main course, I ordered the special of the day: baked halibut in a jerk sauce, served with Irish mashed potatoes and shrimp. The halibut was cooked perfectly--flaky, buttery, and flavorful. The jerk sauce added just the right amount of kick. The shrimp were tasty too, though I do wish there had been more of them, or at least a bit larger in size. That was really my only complaint. For dessert, we tried the bread pudding and the sticky date pudding. Both came out hot, rich, and absolutely melt-in-your-mouth good. By the end of the meal, we left happily stuffed and excited to explore more of the fish and shellfish PEI has to offer. Service was excellent--our waitress was efficient, friendly, and refreshingly no-nonsense. Our waiter was patient and helpful. The inside was cozy and quiet. We ordered the PEI mussels to start as well as a cosmo. We have never had mussels before and these were excellent. I had Chianti and hubs had a Malbec with the ribeye. One of the best I have had. It was PEI beef. The mushrooms we added on were buttery and so tender. Fingerling potatoes also PEI were great. I enjoyed dinner at Claddagh. While I had spent the day at the Shellfish Festival, I did not think more raw oysters would move the needle so I started with the oysters Rockefeller. I had never had this dish before and really enjoyed them; think French Onion Soup meets oysters. The oysters were (obviously) fresh and it was very tasty. I was quite disappointed in my lobster dinner in PEI. I am really not sure how this place has such high ratings...maybe I just hit them up on a bad night. Service at the bar was initially not super friendly, but being me, I made sure to strike up lots of conversation and then they appeared a little more attentive. I ordered the lobster and what I got was what appeared to be a lobster but the amount of meat in it was more like what a large crawfish would have... it was so strange... I showed the guys behind the bar - they totally agreed... So, as they should... they ordered another one, at no charge and it was just slightly better. I found it to be very weird to have miniature lobster meet in a full size lobster. It wasn't wasn't the best flavor I've had and PEI is supposed to be some of the best lobster around! The food and service were superb! Literally the best dinner we had in the Maritime province. Had to get PEI muscles of course which were great!Served in the lovely broth with toast to soak it up. Our accommodation host highly recommended us this place for oysters, mussels and for their food in general, and it was worth it! Our server Josh was amazing and funny and he made us feel extremely welcome in the restaurant. Josh made all of our drinks, and he created the majority of the drinks on the cocktail menu except for a couple. My drink, the West of the Field, was extremely smooth especially for an Old Manhattan drink. We had to get their oysters and their steamed PEI mussels. The oysters were from three different regions of PEI and you could tell the difference between all three. The mussels were delicious and you could tell they were fresh just by how sweet they were and how they melted in your mouth. The broth they were steamed in was delicious as well. The main course arrived and I was blown away by their presentation. The Halibut was cooked to perfection and it melted in my mouth. The peach and lobster relish really complemented the Halibut. The medley of vegetables were delicious and full of flavour! Josh also recommended the sticky date pudding that was made of dates. The pudding was so warm and comforting and you can barely taste the dates, it tasted more like sticky toffee pudding! It was a fantastic evening and dinner and I strongly recommend coming here for their amazing service and meals. Be sure to book reservations in advance as tables can get booked quite quickly. My partner and I LOVE Claddagh. The food and ambiance are so inviting and the service is excellent. We most recently went for Valentine's Day and had the surf and turf. This restaurant's spin is that it's pork belly and scallops and it is TO DIE FOR. The scallops are seared to perfection and the pork belly is so juicy and savory. The Oysters are tiny with a very dainty taste. My only issue is that my wife and I spent a small fortune here for excellent food and service, but the table was the size of a chess board. Wish we had been afforded a larger table and some elbow room. And they had no local wines. I am a huge fan of wine. Not often gluten free as these were. We loved the peach burrata salad, delicious flavors with the green and yellow tomatoes but the lack of burrata was disappointing (it was sprinkled on the salad and barely discernible). What a treat! Based on Yelp reviews, we dropped in shortly after the place opened on a Thursday night. Although there were no tables available for another two hours, the hostess invited us to sit at the bar. I was reluctant at first but she urged us to try it. Wow. The bar has only four chairs on each side, providing plenty of elbow room, and the chairs are of normal height. The bar itself is inlaid with various mollusk shells, and you get a great view of what's going on at the bar. I highly recommend sitting there! We started with a dozen oysters, which were great. I ordered the seafood pasta and my husband the French onion oxtail broth soup. Both were absolutely delicious. This is a gem in Charlottetown, Nova Scotia!!!! We made reservations on our tour bus for that evening and so very glad we did. It is a small restaurant so you really need to make your reservation early. Katrina, our waitress and bartender made my espresso martini and hubby's LIIT perfectly.
