Came here with my brother for lunch today, was excited about the all-you-can-eat sushi only to find that it's only Monday through Thursday now. Well I guess I should have looked more into that, cause it is on their website and everything, so I can't fault them too much for that. Anyway, others have said it but it bears repeating: the service here is SLOW. We got there right at the start of lunch and over the whole time there were not more than 8 customers in the entire store, and I have never had such slow service at even a crowded sushi place. And it ain't the server's fault - she was great. But we could see the chef at the counter and he just seemed to take his sweet ass time with everything; in contrast to more experienced chefs I've seen who are careful yet quick. Expect your sushi order to take 30 minutes MINIMUM if the place is empty. I can't even imagine how long it must take if it's busy. The sushi was so-so. Not the worst I've had in St. Louis, and certainly not the best. Also ordered the takoyaki (octopus balls) as an appetizer and I will say that it was some of the best I've had outside of Japan. But other than that, nothing else stood out as being exceptional. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't fantastic either. And for the prices, you can get better elsewhere. read more

We were here on a Tuesday night, finally trying the all-you-can-eat option after we have considered it many times before. We had the Level 2 and tried pretty much all the nonvegeterian rolls and nigiris (not a huge fan of vegeterian sushi). Overall it was decent. Rolls were small and had alot of rice. But then again we fully expected that. Nigiris were good but the albacore nigiri were super dry. What gives? I wasn't a big fan of the cheeseburger roll. The flavors were interesting but it fell apart before I even attempt to pick it up with my chopsticks. A couple of things that really irked me: 1. Music: We munched on our mediocre sushi while listening to apple bottom jeans and candyshop. I get the restaurant trying for a hip hop vibe but candyshop? really? This is so not 2003 last time I checked. Not only were the music selections dated, the music player seems to stop working every ten seconds. Very un-cool. My advice? If you can't find something unique (could even be instrumental) to play, skip the ghettofabulous songs altogether and let us eat in peace please! 2. Perhaps the restaurant can't really improve here but what is with the bold faced "we reserve the right to charge for un-consumed orders"? The disclaimer was followed by a detailed description of charges by type of leftovers. I sure hope the restaurant had a reason to put that on there, because it was the first thing I noticed on the all-you-can-eat menu. Not cool. Actually I felt insulted just reading it. I don't see many buffets with that warning anymore these days, so why should an all you can eat place still use it? An understandable but questionable practice that hardly seems justified unless the restaurant has had a problem with people ordering an exaggerated amount of food. The bottom line~~~ The all-you-can-eat will fill you up, but not in a pleasing way. Sure you could definitely order $25 worth of sushi using Level 2, but I remember the bf and I getting a ton of quality specialty rolls from Nippon Tei to fill ourselves up for just about the same costs. Do give this place a shot, but you shouldn't get the all-you-can-eat. Their regular menu seems to be fairly decently priced, but I'm pretty sure the portions are small similar to the all you can eat options. In comparison with the rolls, the regular priced nigiri are pretty pricey, at $3-6 per pair. They definitely weren't $6 per pair special IMO. read more

The interior does need a little help. The cerulean blue walls and bad lighting need to be updated. We were handed about three different menus. The selection and choices were almost overwhelming. Blue Ocean offers "Sushi Sets" that are really nice. Basically, it customizes your choices of the number of rolls/nigiri you want with the addition of miso soup and cucumber salad for a decent price. We went with the Jackie Chan set (2 regular rolls and 2 special rolls for $30) and ordered the Fried California Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Blue O Roll, and Cardinal Roll. Also, since it was Happy Hour, we ordered the Dofu for half off. The Dofu was good, but a little too soggy for my liking; I didn't care to much for the cucumber salad and miso soup (tasted like it had too much salt/msg in it).Holy crab stick! Their sushi was delicious! Everything was fresh and rich in flavor. We ended up bringing home extras since it was so filling. When it was time to pay, our waitress was no were to be found. We just sat there looking around like lost tourists. Right when we approached the counter, she reappeared. I'd love to return and try their All You Can Eat option. Yelpers/Sushi lovers should really give this place a chance. read more

The best thing about this place was when they had $1 Nigri on Mondays. They now increased the price to $2 and half the selection, without updating their website. Not really good enough to go besides that. I would recommend going to United a few blocks away from 430-6 everyday for half off sushi. Half the price and better quality. read more

Other than that this is some of the best sushi I have eaten.. the service is a bit slow most the time but I go there for the sushi not the service. they have a trendy bar attached and if you intend on doing any drinking I suggest you go get it yourself. Its cheaper if you walk over there and get it than if you have the waitress go get it for you.. Yes it comes from the same place but if she brings it to you its gonna cost you a bit more. I recently bought a groupon for this venue and went to redeem it earlier today. The service was atrocious. The waitress wasn't familiar with her own menu and tool 40 minutes to take our order. We had finally received our order after waiting an additional 40 minutes and it was mediocre. Finally, we spotted bugs crawling on the walls which further caused us to regret our visit to this venue. We arrived hungry Wednesday night and ready for some good sushi. We were seated only to have two servers actively discussing where to seat us and who would serve us and another couple. I guess they both decided to serve others. We waited almost 20 minutes with no one coming to get us drinks or take an order. No one was even in our dining area. 2 people were talking to a patron about a billing problem and I finally got the greeter to come over and he took the order. Another server delivered our food, forgetting one of the sushi orders. We waited about 10 minutes before we saw anyone, flagged them down and our waitress returned. She apologized and brought our missing order and said she was helping out another server. The sushi was good, reasonable portions but very over priced compared to other Japanese restaurants. We had to flag someone down to get our bill. This restaurant is lacking on management, server training, and staffing. We do not recommend and will not return. They offers varieties of different happy hour options daily, which to me, is a very good deal if you want to eat sushi and not break the bank. Their rolls and sashami selections are not anything to rave about. It is pretty typical compares to any other American Sushi Bar. I particularly liked their Naruto roll: delicious with a kick. We have been here several times over the past year. This is actually the first place I was able to get my boyfriend to try, and like sushi. Their patio is fun because it's great for people watching. We most recently went Saturday night around 6pm on Valentine's weekend, so it was our first time inside. The hostess was super friendly and helpful. Our server was great. We ordered two rolls as appetizers, because we were going somewhere else for dinner. He suggested their special deal that comes with extras for a better price. Came here for lunch. Service was slow; it took about 25 minutes to get our food. I also wasn't so sure about if I had to use the 'service' call button on the table. When we asked for a fountain soda, it took her 5 minutes to bring it over. It also wasn't busy, there were maybe 4 parties in the restaurant when we came in. I ordered a bento box with Chicken Kara Age and Veggie Tempura- it was fresh and hot when it arrived, but it didn't stand out - it wasn't spiced well or spicy. Went here recently and have wanted to try The Cheeseburger roll since I saw the write up in Sauce. I have to say that it tasted as close to a cheeseburger as it could have. The lettuce, cheese and beef were exactly what I expected. For some reason I thought it would have BBQ sauce drizzled over it, but I was mistaken. I liked it and give them credit for having something that will entice the mid west clientel :) I cannot remember the names of all the other items that we had, but we tried a lot and ordered off the Level 3 menu. All of it was OK, not outstanding, but not bad. My guy tried the AK 47 and could not eat the last piece...had to give up...too hot! I cannot handle things too spicy, so I did not even attempt it. Definitely impressed with my first meal in The Loop. The TNT roll was very flavorful, but not to the point where you couldn't taste the fish. My only complaint was I wish it came with more pieces (maybe 8 instead of 6). The sashimi platter was excellent with very fresh fish; the salmon had that buttery quality from a good cut of fish. The menu overall had good variety, but the noodle options could have been more extensive. I wanted to get Udon, but would've had to order it along with a side dish that I didn't want. I was very underwhelmed. They were out of the first two different beers we ordered. We order a glass of wine, only for the waiter to come back 10 min later to let us know the price had increased from 9 to 10 dollars and did we still want it. Our water was served with a glass full to brim of crushed ice, and cold water. It was so cold it was nearly undrinkable, which is only weird because we noticed nobody else was served with slushy ice in their cups. The edemame was tough skinned and room temp with no salt, the St Louis roll was underwhelming. The Cardinal roll saved the evening as it was quite tasty. read more

Not bad for all you can eat sushi! Some of the dishes actually come out in really creative ways like with lots of leafy decorations and/or sauces squirted in artistic patterns. I must caution you, though, potential customer--at peak hours especially, they are INSANELY slow. Maybe one of THE slowest places I've ever gone to for sushi. (Well, actually, I think no one can beat Sekisui in the way of slowness.) If you don't mind the wait and have a bottomless pit of a stomach, I recommend this place!! It's not really on the main road of Delmar but off on a side street which is kind of nice because I never had trouble finding a parking spot! The decor is sort of trendy and modern, by the way. My expectations for authentic Japanese food in Missouri are rather low but I had a decent experience here. I went in for lunch with some friends, where we split an appetizer and each got a bowl of ramen (I got the pork bone ramen). The broth was *really* salty but the pork was tender and delicious. My main complaint was the slow service - although our waitress was nice enough, she took a very long time to even ask us if we wanted water. If you can't eat your share of $30 worth of sushi, then that's your own fault. We had a tough time eating that much sushi for each of us, but we managed with the following orders: Salmon Nigiri Spicy Shrimp Tempura Roll Fried California Roll Fried Spicy Tuna Roll (MY FAVE!) Sunrise Roll Cardinal Roll (My husband's fave) AK-47 Roll Fire Fighter Roll Sun Rise Roll They only let you order 2-3 rolls/nigiri per person so that you can pace yourself, and they also will charge you for leftover pieces (which we are used to from other AYCE sushi places) so they have a good system to limit sushi waste. During lunch on a Friday, it was a ghost town inside, but we also went there for dinner on a Sunday night and it got CROWDED. Service never faultered though, woohoo! read more

i don't think i've ever had anything to eat here that I didnt like, the spicy beef ramen and crab rangoon are my go to every time. I swear some of the best ramen and crab rangoon i've ever had! BUT one thing that does really really annoy me about this place is that they won't take a carry out order over the phone. i frequently order food while driving home from work so having to place an online order isn't really an option. this frustrates me every time I want to order food and prevents me from eating there quite a lot. but besides that inconvenience it's a great restaurant read more

Sushi was great! I always order a spicy tuna roll and the pot stickers, yum! the service was shotty. It took about 10 minutes for the waitress to greet us and take our drink order. We ordered edamame and pot stickers for apps and for my main couse i ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll and my husband ordered the Chicken Teryaki. My spicy tuna roll was delivered with our apps so therefore i had to either wait for my husbands food to arrive to eat or be rude and eat in front of him. Not only am I a customer, but I also deliver for this business through a third party. I am disabled. All of the chairs near the bar are too tall for me. I sat in the dining room where there are shorter chairs. I was forced to go and stand by the bar because "the owner doesn't want the delivery drivers in the dining room." It is very obvious that I am disabled and I am appalled by the blatant lack of consideration I was shown by this restaurant. There were no diners waiting for my seat. So tonight I was back to Blue Ocean after a long hiatus. What a few months makes! The quality has dropped big time. Much of the fish seemed pre-masticated. Since I am not a baby bird, I much prefer to chew my own fish, thank you very much. We wound up eating maybe 50% of the sushi. But don't worry, I still wound up with 100% of a stomach ache. I'm in the industry as a Chef for Marriott. Ate at blue ocean last night. Beautiful decor. Hostess wasn't present at the time of arrival, so my friend and I sat at the bar. We sat at the bar for 8 minutes wondering if anyone would acknowledge us. Multiple employees even the owner saw us waiting/ looking around. 4 more minutes went by until my friend asked if a server could notified the bartender that he had a two top. Ate here with 3 friends this past week. It was not the best trip! But the sushi was great! If I had to rank just on sushi it would be 5 stars. The wait staff was rude. We went on happy hour where drafts are $2 and rolls are cheaper. We got there with plenty of time. When we ordered our drinks we quickly ordered food. We sat around and talked and realized we never got our drinks. We started to get our food and still no drinks. I ordered a beer and the other two had soft Drinks so it was not hard to pour them. I have to say it was just not great! Next thing is they brought out two of the three people's food and it took them about 10 minutes after we got ours for the other guy to get what he ordered.
