We stopped at Miyabi Japanese Sushi and Steakhouse while in Arnold and overall had a pretty good experience. We lived in Japan for nine years, so admittedly, we can be a little picky when it comes to Japanese food. I started with the lychee martini, which was just okay. It's made with lychee juice rather than puree and didn't have any actual lychee in it, so it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. For appetizers, we ordered the shumai and shrimp tempura. Both were decent, although the shumai arrived a little cool and could have been served warmer. The highlight was definitely the Love Boat for Two, which was a HUGE assortment of sushi and sashimi. We really enjoyed it. The fish wasn't quite as fresh as some of the sushi and sashimi we've had elsewhere, and the sashimi was cut much thicker than I personally prefer. On the bright side, I guess that means we got more fish, so that's not exactly the worst complaint to have! One random thing I really appreciated was the temperature inside the restaurant. Missouri is pretty hot and humid, but I also hate walking into a restaurant where the AC is blasting so cold that I need a jacket. Miyabi had it just right. It was cool enough to be comfortable without being freezing, and I was able to sit and enjoy our meal without getting cold and wanting to leave early. It's a small thing, but it definitely added to the experience for me. Service was probably the weakest part of our visit. Our server was difficult for us to understand at times, which made communication a little challenging, and overall the service wasn't quite as attentive as I would have liked. They also had taiko drumming during our visit, which was a fun idea for the atmosphere. Having lived in Japan for so long, though, we couldn't help but notice that it seemed more like enthusiastic drum banging than actual taiko drumming. That's probably us being extremely nitpicky, but we definitely got a little laugh out of it. Overall, the food was good, the Love Boat was impressive, and we had an enjoyable dinner. There were a few things that could have been better, particularly the service and some of the food temperatures and freshness, but I'd still give Miyabi a solid four stars. read more

By far the best Miso soup of any sushi restaurant. Their rolls are also consistently very high quality and delicious. Service is very good. I wish they would expand and add more restaurants around the city. Ambiance meets requirements. Again I wish they would expand and maybe start a chain of upscale sushi/hibachi. Response was to show me the package which was not soba buckwheat noodles but instead mushi chukamen (steamed Chinese-style noodles),. Please remove buckwheat noodles from your menu!!!! Man oh man do I love this place. This is now my second time. If you want authentic sushi with an absolutely stunning presentation, this is your place. First off, the dining area.....it's modest, but very comfortable. It feels like you could take someone here for a nice dining experience but you could never overdress, or underdress. It has a very relaxed vibe and you never feel rushed. The service is excellent. Every worker greeted me with a smile and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered, six rolls, an appetizer, and sides. Not a single mistake on any visit. If there were mistakes, I wholeheartedly believe they would be fixed without issue. The main event, THE FOOD! As if the presentation isn't absolutely stunning enough (chefs kiss), the food is so so delicious. With the presentation.....look at the photos, it's art. Each roll looks like it does through as thorough inspection held by 17 board members . Once you decide to destroy this work of art with your mouth, you will find that the food tastes even better than it looks. No roll is alike. It seems like some places I go they all tend to taste quite similar NOT HERE! Each roll has its own unique flavor profile that will leave you craving more. Also, don't sleep on the miso soup and their salads . While I can only speak on what I've personally eaten here, I can say with confidence that everything else here is most certainly set at the same standard. I may have not eaten some dishes, or enjoy the hibachi grilling, but I did see what others were served, and boy did it look and smell amazing. I'll be back 100 times over. Don't wait, go eat here. We go to Miyabi tonight for dinner and I think tonight is the first time we've had sub par food and sub par service. After sitting down and getting our drinks, it took forever for the server to come back to take our order. He also did not check on us once after he delivered the food to see if we needed drink refills or if everything was ok. I even had to flag him down to get the check. Food wise, we always get the 4 roll special. All 4 rolls were barely rolled. We had to use our hands, not even utensils to pick up the sushi. I'm good with chopsticks and my husband is normally a fork guy but tonight they wouldn't good together to use either of those options. I'm glad this wasn't our first time or we would not go back. Was told it would be a 45 minute wait and waited for over an hour in the cramped nonexistent waiting area next to the door in 10 degree weather. The waiter admitted that he seated 2 other groups before us and that there was nothing they could do about it. So in total waited around an hour and ten minutes with an older lady who can't stand for long periods of time and ended up getting a regular table instead of hibachi like we were told we would be getting. Very disappointing considering this was for my birthday and I had been looking forward to this for a while. Food was still good but the service was abysmal. Sushi was meh, the salad was small and overloaded with dressing (but the flavor was great). The blue Hawaiian drink was good and properly made. The crab Rangoon was so small it was like a portion for a little dog. I was embarrassed when it came out and with sweet and sour packets. Definitely not worth the price. The lo mein was a small portion for the price, not sure what all the fruit is about, it definitely doesn't need all the pomp and circumstance, let your speak for itself. A good friend recommended this establishment to us, and it was truly amazing. It's in a shopping mall plaza at the end. When first enter it's rather small entry way is alarming, but if you're not shy and dont mind being squished in together then it's not so bad. The seating for the Hibachi side seemed packed and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The dining side was very nice also small but had very roomy booths. They have an ENORMOUS menu. It's kinda overwhelming.. but you definitely have alot to choose from. We ordered all appetizers and two sushi rolls. All which were absolutely delicious.. nothing about this food is subpar. The Kimi roll was exquisite as was the STL roll. Hands down THE BEST CRAB RAGOONS EVER!!! The Shimu, Gyoza, the steak wrapped asparagus all were tremendous.. we will most definitely be coming back.. we will just call head and put ourselves on the wait list next time read more

I probably need to go back for their dinner service, or sit at the sushi bar for lunch... Because the, "Hibachi Chicken," lunch item was simply not very good. Not sure what made it, "hibachi," as it was simply diced white meat chicken swimming in a WAY overly salty sukiyaki sauce, as were the steamed (probably) vegetables. The dish was served with brown rice and a small iceberg salad. You have a choice of soup or salad. From this experience I fear many of their lunch offerings would be equally - overly salty. Like I said, I should probably go back for their dinner service, or just sit at the sushi bar. Asian cuisine is not very prevalent around Arnold, so I really don't have many choices. Had a great time last night celebrating our boys birthdays! They are twins, never mind being days apart and born on different continents, they insist. Service was right on point, quick to attend to drinks, etc. Our chef was fun and friendly and did a really great job cooking our orders (nothing was over cooked or under cooked. This was our first trip here and we really appreciated the smaller hibachi stations that meant our group of 6 was seated alone. Usually at hibachi restaurants the tables seat about 10, and while sometimes it's fun to sit with other groups, it's also nice to have the option of just being with you peeps. We kind of ended up with the best of both worlds in our interactions with the neighboring table. Food was delicious, decor was pleasantly understated, all the boxes were checked. Omg wow this sushi is amazing! And I'm glad I can randomly get a margarita in a Japanese restaurant lol. The pepper tuna appetizer is delicious. I ordered the Alaskan King roll and the Kiss of Fire. He ordered the Christmas roll (on special) and the Fish Lover roll. We split the Roll & Roll. All the rolls were good, and I tried all 5, but my favorite was the Kiss of Fire roll. Took my daughter there for sushi last Saturday. The place was packed. Weather was nice so we accepted a table on the patio. Don't do this. The patio is a barren concrete slab next to the BUSY entrance/exit to the shopping center. Loud and ugly. We drove from Ballwin to try it because we heard good things. It was bad. Food was mediocre and service Horrible. My daughter ordered Miso soup and I ordered seaweed salad. Soup came out in about ten minutes. But no salad. It came another ten minutes later. Our waitress apologized saying they were busy and sushi would take a bit. U seaweed salad came served on a bed of head lettuce. It was a really bad idea and I have never had it served that way. Our sushi rolls came an hour and a half from the time we ordered. Three of our four rolls had spicy mayo on them, but wasn't listed on the description of any of them. Over powered them all, C4, Dynamite, and another roll. All were ok at best. I get it. It was busy. But they we far too slow and barely apologetic. We never saw our waitress unless she was bringing our order. Never checked on us. Never tried to make the wait time feel shorter. The manager should probably been visiting tables and asking patrons what they could do. Too many good sushi restaurants in town. Definitely not worth a drive. Maybe okay if you live in Arnold or JeffCo. Not acceptable anywhere I know. We tried. But we won't return. read more

My family and I have been here once before and had an amazing experience. The most recent experience was not the best. We were seated in the back room near the kitchen which I do NOT recommend. It's like you are forgotten here in this part of the restaurant, despite the staff having to walk directly past this section on the way to the kitchen. Sitting down, we noticed gnats flying around immediately... Our waiter was quick to take our drink order, but it took forever for us to get our actual food order taken. They separated the section of four tables between two waiters, the other waitress for the other tables seemed extremely attentive to her tables. Our waiter continued to walk past our table for 15 minutes, not taking our order and not even stopping by. I gave several members of staff a look as they walked by and the waiter was told to take our order after the long wait. My family members ordered some noodles and the bento box, while I opted for sushi. It took a while for us to get our food and when we did, my mother's teriyaki steak was cold to the touch. I didn't get my food immediately, waiting nearly 10 minutes for my food to arrive as my parents sat there waiting for me so we could all eat together.
