Caveat: we came in during an air show weekend and the restaurant had several orders from the air show but I have to rate them on our experience not on circumstances. We arrived just as they opened. There was no one to greet us for the first few minutes. Finally, someone came out from the back to let us know that they were busy, which sounded strange since they had just opened, but when they explained about the air show it made sense. The music is loud but that's expected. It is a bar after all...that serves barbecue. We ordered at the bar and sat down. BWE and I shared the Chuckwagon Classic Plate, and we added 1/3 lb of brisket. My son had the same Classic Plate. We got the beans and fries as our sides. When our food was brought to us, the server didn't give us utensils. We had to ask her for them. The portions seemed small. The brisket was not hot. It was room temperature. The fries and beans were just okay. We were underwhelmed. This is Texas. Our expectations were high but we were disappointed. It could be that the order from the air show overwhelmed them and left them little strength to give attention to our order so I'll give them a little grace and give them two stars instead of one. Quality has gone significantly down while prices have gone drastically up on the bbq. I no longer recommend this place for the food. The bar scene is still fabulous tho. Seems like they don't really care to provide quality food. It's always cold like it was heated up from the day before, they're skimpy with the meat & it just doesn't hit the same. Even the portions have gotten WAAAY smaller. Service is still great but definitely won't be spending money on their bbq anymore. Outstanding BBQ! Drove through a small industrial area in Selma to get to this place, and it's connected to a Mexican food restaurant as well. Noticed upon entrance, a humongous outdoor space connected to both restaurants which included plenty of outdoor seating tables and a stage. It must get busy on the weekends and I assume there's entertainment. Friendly greeting upon entering and seat yourself. Lots of TVs with Chive and enjoyed the country music in the background. Excellent service! Our server was friendly and checked on us frequently. Complimentary tortilla chips with a special seasoning and queso were brought to the table . I liked the seasoning. There's also a small complimentary condiment and BBQ sauce bar- which included onions, pickles, jalapeños, regular and spicy BBQ sauce. Pickles were nice and appeared home made. I dipped my meats in combos of both sauces, I enjoyed them both. We all ordered the two meat combos $18 with your choice of two sides and served with Texas toast. I ordered the brisket and pulled pork. Both were excellent! The brisket had a nice tiny fatty edge and was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The pulled pork was deelish. Good portion size too. I enjoyed the beans, but the coleslaw not so much. The slaw was bland and had no flavor. Others at my table ordered the tater tots, which were highly seasoned and had a nice crunch. Small little place but not popular so we were able to sit right away. Not like your traditional BBQ where you order from the counter and go sit, here you have wait staff which is nice so you are able to look over and talk about the food more. Had brisket, pulled pork which was good the sausage was a little dry but the sauce was good as well as all the sides. Small bbq restaurant next to Bluebonnet Palace and you can smell the wonderful bbq from the parking lot. Pretty small inside but there are outdoor seatings. They didn't have enough servers in my opinion as the person running the cash register also delivered the food. The food tasted great and the portion size is bigger than you think it would be. I would say it was a little more salty than most bbq foods I have had but it didn't ruin the meal. Seated immediately. Waitress was taking my order within a few minutes. Ordered a two meat plate with brisket, sausage, cola slaw and green beans. The regular sausage was not ready, all they had was jalapeño sausage so I changed to pulled pork. Nice and rustic, lots of wood inside. The brisket and the pulled pork were both outstanding! Portion size was very good as well. I normally get green beans due to their being low carb and don't really notice them but these got my attention! Not sure what they seasoned them with but I really liked their flavor. The coleslaw was also good, not overly sweet but crisp and fresh and seemed to taste a bit of apple. Popped in for a quick lunch with the family. We ordered two of the BBQ plates, with brisket, chicken and sausage. Sides were potato salad, mac and cheese, and tator tots. Brisket was juciy and delicious, the chicken was spot on. Sausage was pretty good too. As for the sides, the tots and potato salad were great. The mac and cheese however was bland. Service was very friendly and the cost was very reasonable. Portions are pretty large and we shared the two plates between us and our kids, and still had plenty of leftovers to take home. This is some good eatin! The menu was small, but that's ok. The brisket was tender, juicy and very flavorful. My family and i all ordered brisket meals - tacos, sandwiches and dinner entrees. Wow. Just wow. It's no secret that this area of town has very few lunch options that aren't chains or fast food. Today, I found my new GO TO lunch spot. For well under $10, I got a loaded brisket sandwich quickly and with excellent service. This place is a little honey hole in an industrial plaza. Service was good even though she was new, she tried very hard every restaurant you go to is short staffed so u must be patient. What an awesome place! I actually work nearby, and and cannot tell you how many times I have driven by this place. Tonight we finally stopped by! We arrived around 7p on a Saturday night. Business was slow, and don't expect a full menu. They were sold out of a few things like jalapeno cheese sausage and coleslaw. The brisket, mac n cheese and peach cobbler-have mercy! So good! Prices are great as well, as per pound, prices are about 1-2 bucks less. The large sides are LARGE! Much bigger than what you would get at most bbq joints. Went over to the cantina and the BEST part, you buy food credits for every drink you buy. That's right! After a few margaritas, I earned a peach cobbler! This was the best drink incentive I've ever had! Just an amazing place. Everyone serving was so accommodating and nice. I'm glad I found this place despite rather few but glowing reviews of this establishment (two five-stars at the time). The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. I had the "Double Smokehouse Plate" with the choice of brisket and pulled pork for the meats and macaroni & cheese and Oma's potato salad for the sides. I also ordered a cup of homemade sweet tea. The "Double Smokehouse Plate" came with the aforementioned items and also two flour tortillas and onion and pickle relish. The brisket here that day was one of the better briskets I have had so far at other smokehouses: not being overcooked that it falls apart beyond what's reasonable but yet juicy and tender. However, the pulled pork was the highlight of the dish. It had a pleasant but prominent smoke taste that must be this establishment's signature blend. Surprisingly, I didn't want to dip the pulled pork into the barbecue sauce as I would normally do because it was so unique and flavorful by itself. The tortilla was an interesting choice since normally I would expect Texas-style toast, but I didn't have any issues with it. The mac & cheese was slightly too runny for my taste but the potato salad was excellent. The onion and pickle relish helped cut through the fattiness of the brisket very well. For $11.95, this dish is well worth the price for the quality and quantity of food. I definitely would revisit this place soon to try the other meats they have available. The service was great and the food was great. My only nitpick for this place was that I had an embarrassingly hard time finding how to enter the main restaurant (I saw the concert stage and outdoor bar initially and was confused if I came to the right place). read more
