Tried the one meat plate with brisket, brisket beans and creamed corn. I requested fatty brisket but one slice was fatty and the other was lean. I showed the picture to manager Travis who explained the way they cut the brisket, the top is fatty and the bottom portion is lean. He gave me another slice which was much juicier. The brisket had a nice smokey flavor. The brisket beans and creamed corn were warm, and should have been hotter. It was disappointing that the container was not filled to the top like the pic on the app. They should use a smaller container. Both sides were tasty but I felt the temp should have been hotter. Normally, True Texas BBQ is reliably so-so BBQ. It's not the best, not the worst but it's convenient, being close by with the drive through with good service. But this evening, the convenience, and drive through service did NOT make up for the food. It was bad. First, the pulled pork sandwich and prime brisket sandwich and creamed corn were all cold. Not lukewarm, but cold. Off temperature food can make people sick. It was't the drive because I live only about 1 mile from the store. Secondly, there was no BBQ sauce. What BBQ restaurant doesn't serve BBQ sauce? Thirdly, the cornbread was burnt. I was shocked they would actually serve it to a customer. I attached a photo. The photo actually looks better than it did in person. The Apple slaw is a unique recipe that is not typical slaw. It had mixed reviews. My husband liked it but I didn't care for the flavor. Smelled amazingly smoky long before I entered! It is adjacent to an H-E-B. Not to crowded inside at 12:30 but did have alot of customers inside. 3/4 lbs of brisket and one sausage was $27 with a medium drink. Probably should have gotten 1/2 lbs but can always take some home. Took about 10 minutes to get my food. I did not think the meat was too fatty as some reviews stated. I do agree with the comments about the salt. Some pieces were awesome and some seemed heavily salted. Not sure why but the salt was a bit excessive. The sausage was good but the skin was a bit tough and chewy. The brisket had a good bark and a nice smoke ring. Overall it was pretty good. I was surprised by HEB bar b que. This is the first time I've had a bad experience at a True Texas BBQ, so I hope this time was an anomaly, but it deserves to be shared. Yesterday, on 5/3/25 @ approx 7:30 pm, I placed my order through a kiosk pad for ribs, 1/2 lb of fatty brisket, Cole Slaw , and brisket beans. When I went to check on the status, I was told that they couldn't fulfill my order because they were out of brisket. They said they could substitute it for burnt ends. How does a BBQ place literally inside of a grocery store , run out of meat? The ribs , which are usually pretty tender, were almost inedible. So tough, that I only gnawed on one and threw the other 2 ribs away. The worst part, no apology from the manager, no offer of any sort of compensation, a free iced tea, anything .. in fact I have no idea if the burnt ends I got were less or more expensive then the original brisket I ordered . Food is great but their app and service has issues. We used the app for two 2-meat plates and entered our preferences for the pickles, onions, bread and bbq sauces. One of the plate orders had peach cobbler as a side. We drove home across town and discovered they ignored our order preferences and left out the peach cobbler. I called back and asked to be reimbursed for the peach cobbler and as told they can't do it online or over the phone and I would have to drive back there. This restaurant is attached to the HEB PLUS. What got me in here was the bbq smell permeating the entire store. I had heard great things about it and it did not disappoint. I ended up using the drive through and it was so convenient after I had just put all my groceries in the car. Why can't these guys ever get an order right? I have been here three times and still they can't get my order right on the first try. They always run out of food way early than normal. 30 minutes before closing I could understand in a BBQ restaurant. But by 6 pm they are already out of food. They charge extra for butter?!?! I placed an order via the app on Thursday at 4:14. Per the app - order would be ready for pickup at 4:20. I arrived at 4:15 as I was in H-E-B when I placed the order. There were no dine in customers and 4 delivery pick up drivers. I waited 20 minutes. During that time no staff asked me the name on the order or offered to check the status. I was the only one left waiting. I approached the cashier to ask about the order. I told her pick up time was 4:20 and it was 4:35. The cashier said the 4:20 was not the pickup time - that was the time the order was sent to the restaurant. The App specifically says pick up time. She was unable to find my order. I asked for a refund as I no longer wanted to wait. Another woman who appeared to be the expediter offered to prepare my order now and it would only be a few minutes. I declined and said I wanted a refund. It took another 10 minutes to get a partial refund. No one seemed to know how to refund the amount I paid despite having my receipt. The expediter prepared my sandwich, upsized the coleslaw and threw in a dessert. The cashier said the dessert was more than the money they owed. I declined the dessert. I will say the expediter was VERY polite and VERY customer service oriented. If she wasn't the manager she SHOULD be! As I was leaving, the cashier said "You got MORE than you paid for"! I lost 30 minutes waiting for a sliced brisket sandwich that was 80% fat, an upsized coleslaw which I did not need and a free dessert. True texas BBQ is so so quality. Next time I will gladly drive the 10 minutes to Bill Millers. True Texas BBQ is usually empty - perhaps most people get it to go. While I was waiting, 2 other customers returned for missing or incorrect items on their orders. Seems not to be an isolated occurrence. The smoked turkey is juicy, the brisket is rich and smoky, and the sausage is peppery. I wanted to try the spicer sauce but the dispenser (nice automation!) was empty. Our HEB is also about to have a True Texas BBQ so this would be a good preview. We ordered the same foods for our friends as the food we brought home for ourselves - pork ribs, beef ribs, moist brisket, potato salad, and roasted chicken. Our friends were already texting us that this was the best bbq they've ever had as we were driving home. They provided both sweet bbq sauces and spicy bbq sauces to us. When an elusive BBQ truck wasn't parked in the spot we thought it would be, my group decided to pivot and have dinner at HEB instead- and we are all glad we did! Five of us walked in on a Friday night and had about a three minute wait in line. Ordering was a breeze and we waited about six minutes for our food, which was just the right amount of time to fill up our drinks and grab some sauce at the self serve station. Once our food arrived, the most obvious sign of a great meal struck...nobody was talking! We were all too busy chowing down on the delicious plates to get a word out other than "mmmm!" We managed to do some food swapping so we could try more items. I can attest to the baked potato (I am not a huge BBQ fan so I always love to see a good potato on the menu) and sausage link, both hit exactly the spot and the HEB BBQ sauce was the cherry on top. As for the mac and cheese, it fell just a bit flat. At a BBQ place you expect punches of big flavor, but the noodles and the cheese tasted like they could use a little umph. Once we got a handle on our hunger, we proceeded to have a thirty minute long conversation all about HEB. Our favorite stores, products, and why we love HEB so much. I tell you there is something about HEB that turns you into a cult follower and we were all in! As if to reward us for such a perfect evening, as we headed back to the car we were reminded there is no better place in the city to watch the sunset than straight from the HEB parking lot. Seriously, this place has a unique and creative menu, loaded with the typical BBQ joint eats, but also unique items, like a brisket biscuit and their seasonal cobbler. I tried a couple of meats in my visit; their brisket and some sausage. Both were smoked very nicely and flavorful. The sausage was pork & beef, but didn't have anything else in it and that was fine, because the flavors were great just the way it was. Their beans were very saucy and flavorful... Cornbread was nice, but a little on the boring side. Their jalapeños were really good and pickled perfectly to still be crisp, but not very spicy. I also got a separate side of corn bread. The two meats I chose were pulled pork and lean sliced brisket. I chose the green bean and salad as a side. I honestly wasn't impressed with the green beans. The meats though, were pretty good. The brisket had a nice smokiness to it and the pulled pork was very tender. The cornbread I think, was the best part. Not only was it a size-able piece, it was moist and soft, and had pieces of something that I couldn't identify. It was an ok place, we weren't too impressed with this place. The smoked chicken here is the best. I'm not usually a chicken person but this is the most tender, flavorful BBQ chicken I've probably had. The brisket is also great here. I like the rub they use which makes the ends get that perfect seasoned flavor. On Friday's they have beef "Dino" ribs available for $20 a piece while supplies last. They do sell out by the evening sometimes so get there early or call ahead to check. They are huge, messy, and oh so delicious but be warned there is quite a bit of fat attached to the meat. If you're into leaner cuts this probably won't be your thing. H-E-B has definitely proved that they can compete in the Texas BBQ world! read more

Where do I start? I love HEB grocery store, their products and quality are great. Now they've opened a barbecue restaurant attached to the store where they cook up the brisket, pork, chicken, and sides that they sell? This is genius. Their proteins are high quality and all natural, smoked on site, and both sides and desserts are made fresh in house daily. Shared a 3 meat plate with 2 sides and added on sausage to be able to try the majority of the menu: fatty brisket is great, smoked turkey is juicy, ribs (surcharge with combo) had good pull and flavor, sausage was just a touch spicy. Unfortunately they were out of the mac and cheese and cobbler I wanted, but my dining companion liked the slaw and their beans are out of this world, stewed with brisket and tomatoes. Maybe I've been out of Texas too long, but this counter inside a grocery store is putting out product that's competitive with what established barbecue restaurants are selling- which isn't a surprise, because HEB does not compromise their quality.
