Great place to grab drinks and food while sitting by the lake. It was a nice warm spring afternoon and the tables on the patio were open for customers even though the patio wasn' t "officially" open. Service was very friendly and accommodating. We'd visited the original location multiple times in the past, but the Watkins Glen location right on the lake is great. A nice variety of craft beer and cocktails are on the menu and flights are available even outside.The food menu has a good variety of items and everything being served around us looks tasty. We snacked on the poutine, which was loaded with gravy and very good. Lucky Hare produces a solid line-up of beers that include a variety of styles from IPA & Bitters to Stoudts & red ales. They have a very nice selection of locally brewed beers at this location. The mixed drinks are also quite tasty on a hot day and reasonably priced. I'd have to say that my favorite thing about this place is the outdoor patio views. You get great sunsets here and are on the Seneca lake waterfront amongst the marina boats. These make it worth a visit. Also, these are the two reasons I'm giving this a three star rating and not a two. I do have to say that I didn't find the food or the service that exceptional. There is a lot of fried foods and what I would consider one step up from bar foods. The clam chowder and the ahi tuna salad were good choices. Their cheese burger was ok but not great. The staff seemed rushed, weren't really smiling or engaging or seemingly having fun. None were that memorable or made an impression including the bar tender. I requested to be seated in a specific area outdoors but even though there were tables still available they said it was "too busy". Before I even got my first drink they were seating other guests at those same tables for newer arriving guests. Yes, I noticed. It wasn't even close to closing or full capacity but most of the evening I felt like everyone working there were trying to rush us out the door so that they could go home. We had ordered an exceptional amount of food and drinks just so we could try a wide selection of their offerings. There were only two of us but we literally had three full drinks on the table and another full meal of uneaten food yet and the waitress was asking us if we were ready to leave and check out. In general, sure I might stop in for a quick drink and a view on a sunny day but I wouldn't entertain eating there again or spending my valuable time there. We stopped by Lucky Hare Brewing Bar and Grill in Watkins Glen (they also have a location in Hector) for lunch last Friday after a hike at Watkins Glen State Park. Right at the base of Seneca Lake, they have beautiful views of the lake (especially from their outside seating). The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, and the service was great. We enjoyed our beers (they had plenty to choose from), and the food menu is great. Unfortunately, they were out of a few things on the menu (the first beer I ordered and the salmon belly BLT), but we really enjoyed the shrimp burger (shrimp patty with lettuce, tomato, sliced avocado, and Thai chili guava jam on a brioche bun) and some wontons filled with cheese, chicken, spinach, and artichoke (I can't find them on their online menu, so can't remember what they were called). I really appreciated that they had some traditional brewery pub dishes with some less expected, fun (and seafood) dishes as well! While the food is decent and the views are great, the service is lacking. As it is right on the water, it is almost always packed (especially Summer/early Fall). On this occasion, we waited 10-15 minutes before being put on a wait list/given a buzzer. The hostess was busy doing things other than greeting and seating guests. It seems the staff are all trying to do multiple functions and the result is extremely inefficient. As other reviews have shared, the service is also not friendly. We arrived shortly after at 7:00pm, received our buzzer between 7:20-7:30, and got the notice our table was ready at 8:00. (We were told there would be around a 15 minute wait to be seated upon arrival.) The service was extremely slow. For reference, we were a party of 4 and didn't order anything from the bar. Our appetizer plates were wet from the washer and our order included 2 salads, but we did not receive any silverware. It was 10:00 before we were able to pay our bill and leave. It is quite pricey for what you're getting, but it is a waterfront and tourist destination. I would not recommend it if you're just trying to grab a snack or quick dinner, expect to spend a few hours here. read more

Glad I didn't check Yelp first because it might have scared me off. We didn't try any of their craft brews, but I was thrilled to see a lavender lemon drop on the cocktail menu. Very tasty. We stopped by for dinner on. Friday night looking for a beautiful view. The Lucky Hare has one of the best views in town, and it's probably the lowest prices you can get for dinner on the lakefront. Friday they had live music inside, which was super loud. The band was great, but we chose outside for the view and because the volume was more manageable. Our server was funny and very attentive. We ordered mozzarella triangles to start. They were delicious- crispy breading and yummy cheese. I got the black bean burger, which was large, fresh, and delicious. My friend got the cod sandwich, which he said was "okay". The fries were great, but the onion rings were much better. As someone else mentioned, the prices were a little high. The black bean burger with fries was $16. It was worth it to us for the view. The lake views were indeed beautiful, and there was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. What we didn't realize was that the Sunday brunch menu was the only option available. Since we had already eaten breakfast, the limited brunch offerings made it difficult to find something we were in the mood for. Most of us went with the House Burger by default. Terrible is an understatement for this place. When I asked the hostess if there was outdoor seating available, she gave me a hard no after I had just heard her offer it to the couple in front of me and they denied. We were sat at a table before 1, and the waitress delivered our menus and left us for upwards of 10 minutes, then proceeded to come back and tell us that the brunch menu was no longer available despite being sat before 1 and then being neglected until the menu time ran out. We were then given attitude when we had to change what we were going to order and needed another minute, since we had picked items from the brunch menu. We maybe saw the waitress 2 times, and she had a terrible attitude and is someone who should not be in a customer service position. The place was not busy, in fact the waitress had time to stand within view of our table and bite her nails, yawn, and talk about hair with other waitresses, while we had been out of water for 30 minutes. Unacceptable! Apparently she needs to choose a different career that would be more fun for her, since she was clearly bored with the job she has now. They seemed to have plenty of extra staff to help run drinks, apps, meals, etc, so everything didn't just fall on the server. Food- Honestly, there wasn't much on the menu that made me ooh and ah. I did a Fried Catfish Sandwich, husband had a Chicken Sandwich, the 5 yo had a Grilled Cheese, and we did the Fried Shrimp app. The catfish sandwich came with coleslaw, but needed Tatar sauce or SOMETHING. It honestly tasted like fried nothing. The best part was the side of crunchy veggies (they were out of fries, comes with potato chips, but we opted for the veggie sticks). Fried shrimp were fine. Husband ate his chicken with no comment which basically means, "meh, it was good." Beer- I tried the Lime Light beer, it was basically any light beer with added lime you'd ever have. I stopped by previously but kitchen was closed at that visit. I didn't know that at the time, but found out after a 30 mile drive to get there. Checked their web page and Facebook page prior to leaving home but there was no mention. OK, it happens. I was nearby today and decided to stop in for a bite to eat. I sat inside at a table, opposite the bar. I was the only one inside but there were five couples eating outside. There were 5 girls working, and I saw two guys back and forth from the kitchen. 10 mins went by, no service. I gave it another 10 mins, still no service so I got up and left. And MAYbe coconut shrimp or fries if thier fryer isn't randomly "down" and if they feel like it. I've been here a few times and never has my server asked my if I want to upgrade to fries, which I would happily do given the opportunity- but the default is chips. Busy night with a band and the staff were working to get us a table. We didn't have to wait too long. The negative was that as they were trying to seat other people, they added a high top table outside in the middle of all the regular tables which blocked the view of the band for a quarter of the tables that were outside! (Which was the reason we were there) My husband and I both got their burgers. The burger was ok tasting, but the aioli, cheese, onions added nice flavor so made it better. Chips were good. Most beers were IPAs, sours, etc. I had the pilsner. It was good. If you are there to see a band, there is not a lot of space on their on water patio where the band is. Also guys on a boat docked not too far blasting their own music very loud the entire time. At 2 hours and 45 minutes into the band's performance (at the end), a staff member asked them to turn down/off their music-which was appreciated. Prices are very high. $100 for 2 burgers, kids chicken tenders and 3 beers. Overall, we would go again. Food came out pretty quickly. Attentive staff. Beautiful views. read more
