There are lots of burger choices in Abilene, so you have to step up to the plate to be a star. I'm not a fan of the burgers here, but what they call the Blue Sky steak, I love! Two burger patties covered in melted cheese, with grilled onions and jalapeños stuffed in between. So good! But inconsistent. First time, cheese was rich and creamy, completely covering the meat. Next time, cheese was so runny, it flowed off the meat. Had to try and mop it up with the meat. But it will be right next time (please?), so we will be back. Burgers are good but buns are greasy and get soggy fast. I like how they stack their burgers. Their fries are delicious. They provide Lawry's season salt and it makes them even better. They have a special with two "steak" chuck patties with jalapeños and onions sandwiched between with queso on top. Served with a side of fries for $8.99 So good! Stupid Pricing! Phoned in a green chile burger, small tots, and a soft drink for pick up. I get to the window to pick up my order and the total is $17.18! That's right, almost $20 for a burger, tots, and drink. I recommend driving right past this place when you're looking for a quick meal. With the mixed reviews, I decided to try it at last. The friendly cashier said they never freeze their meat that they get fresh shipments in each week. My husband and I shared the 1/3 pound cheeseburger (good soft fresh bun, NOT sweet) and the combo fries and onion rings. The hamburger patty was juicy and cooked perfectly. Today was my first day to eat at blue sky. Great location, friendly staff and average food makes for a decent lunch spot. I had the cheeseburger and french fries. The bun was fresh and appeared to be homemade, veggies were crisp and fresh, meat patty was small (close to a quarter pound patty) and very dry - it had reminants of good flavor. It only makes me wonder if it wasn't so overcooked how good it must taste. The fries were average but very soggy - I prefer a crisper french fry. The ketchup on the table for the fries was a watery generic - yuk! Abilene has many burger joints to choose from - Lucy's and Heff's to name two that put this place to shame. Came here for a burger and was not disappointed. The wrangler was great. The reason for the low rating, the area around the drink machines must needs cleaning for there were a lot of fruit flies, and there was a guy cleaning the benches, though he was doing a good job, pulling out the bench and clean it out good, he was making a ton of noise smacking the broom against the wood and dropping then bench seat back in. This is like Mighty Fine in Austin. Upscale burger joint that has a nice expansive dining area and ample parking. The cashier was fast and professional. She also asked if this was our first time to educate us order pick up system (screens that post your number) I ordered the blue plate special - steak and fries. My wife ordered the burger. We also got an order of green chili fries. That cost us 31.54 with drinks. Not an everyday lunch... The blue plate is a hamburger that came covered in queso and jalapeños. I got a side of onion rings. They are very thin. Mostly batter. The meat and queso mix was pretty good and spicy! My wife said her burger was good also. But not her favorite burger. The restaurant inside and outside is nice, the food is delicious, kid-friendly, of course bathrooms too, not that expensive (but mostly depends on how much you get or just what you get in general), the workers are also nice and respectful as well. I'm often described as a burger connoisseur. I have tried burgers from all over the world and these burgers are average at best. The price is kind of expensive for what they are offering and if you want french fries, it is not included in the burger price. The burger looks like it came from a family reunion cookout, it doesn't have that restaurant quality look. Once again, the burger is more on the dry side, but I do enjoy the crisp on the french fry. It's always busy and the line is sometimes out the door. It's a chain resutant if I am not mistaken, so don't be upset if the line is too long. There are others in this world lol. The Green chili cheese burger was very good in spite of they forgot the green chili , they gave to me after I went back to counter without question. My disappointment was the much anticipated onion rings, they were cooked in old grease , or they were precooked and sit and absorbed the grease. Inside is well kept and the burger actually tastes better without al the dressings/fixins. Line moves relatively fast but it gets full quick around lunch time. It is bigger than any of the other burger places in town and it has a covered patio. They serve beer and wine. My husband and I both got cheeseburgers (his was double meat double cheese) and shared a large combo fries/onion strings. I had a water and he had a Dr. Pepper. Our bill was $25. The burger had a soft bun and fresh veggies but the patty wasn't terribly thick or flavorful. Most of the flavor was coming from the toppings. The fries were hand cut shoestrings and the onion strings (not rings--thin cut) had a nice peppery batter but the portion could have been more generous for the price of $4.50. I went to the Blue Sky in Abilene for the first time and had their cheeseburgers with tots. It was an average experience. Below are cons and pros. Cons: The buns were greasy. The ambient noise of the dining area is much to noisy for my comfort. I should not have to struggle to listen to people talking when enjoying their company. The tots were much salty for my taste(s). Pros: The burger was fantastic. The burger was loaded with lettuce and tomato. In a way, I order a small salad and I like that. The sweet tea was on point. I was ready to love Blue Sky, so I hate to post an "average" review.... I had the cheeseburger with fries. I would put the burger at about a 3.5. For comparison, Whataburger is right there. The fries were better. They are thinner than I prefer, but "home cut" and they come in at a 4. If it weren't for factoring in prices, this place might be a 4. There are just too many quality burger places in town. Heff's, Lucy's and Wholly Cow come in at 4 and their fries are 5. The thing Blue Sky has going for it is room, a patio and beer. Those will keep it popular; but won't make me a regular. Bottom line... It's not disappointing, but it's not the best burger in town if that matters to you. I can get a bigger, better cheeseburger, fries and a drink for $3 less at two different places within a mile of here. read more

My husband and I went here last Saturday for lunch. very busy, but they get your order, and get you seated right away. (You seat yourself.) My husband wanted to try the low-carb no carb menu, so he had the protein diet plate that consisted of two pieces of grilled chicken, with bacon and cheese, a small bowl of chili or pico de gallo; and a salad. It tasted pretty good. I had a cheeseburger. it was good. I wouldn't recommend it over Lucy's or Heff's, but it was still tasty. Service was good. Good prices as well. I really enjoyed the atmosphere as well. Pleasing for family or friends, if you don't mind they serve beer. They also have "homemade"shakes. and after seeing 4/5 of them come out, I really wanted to try a chocolate banana shake! but I stuck to what I had and will definitely have a shake next time! read more
