As a young man, I once ate a burger for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel we were staying at in Ely, MN. This doesn't necessarily qualify me as an expert on hamburgers, but it does speak to the love I have for this All American staple. Blue Sky in Lubbock and Amarillo, I believe, has to produce the best burgers I've ever had. Very juicy yet somewhat crispy around the edges, cooked correctly and perfectly seasoned, these burgers are, for me at least, hard to beat. The onion rings and fries (but especially the OR's) are a fine complimentary addition to the burgers. The shakes are truly thick, smooth and flavorful. Of course, they should be since they're made with Blue Bell Ice Cream. The restaurants are always clean and well kept. The orders rarely take longer than ten minutes. I ordered the chili cheeseburger, order of tots, and a banana milkshake (yes, with whipped cream and a cherry on top). Turns out a chili cheeseburger in this place is not what you think: you get a cheeseburger with all the fixins, and a small ketchup style dispenser scoop of chili ON THE SIDE. What? Who does that? Sadly the chili was terrible to boot, so maybe that's why they do it. This was a flavorless spiceless ground beef red sauced junk: it may be chili in Canada, but here in Texas it's bland baby food. The cheeseburger was good and tasty: due to the size of the bun I recommend you consider a double patty, that would probably put this burger at the top of your list. Tater tots tasted like they came out of a Sam's Club big bag and were under fried for me. Red Gold ketchup bottle at the table helped them a lot. The banana milkshake was delicious (Blue Bell Ice Cream based) with real chunks of bananas. read more

Had to go with people from work who wanted to go. This place is a joke. Nice atmosphere but hold on to your wallet. This is a glorified hamburger stand that sells frozen beef heated and served. Charges WAY to much for the product. Onion Rings for a small are $2.19. You get 10 onion rings. Wow really? If you want to spend $13 for a basically a Burger King burger, onion rings and a drink...then more power to you. Next time I will go on and let the saps from work spend their money on this trash. Oh and I didn't even mention the jerk of a cashier that grabs your money, throws the change at you without a smile or kiss my ass. Good to eat just a bit expensive. Had the blue sky steak and chips! Definitely gets packed at lunch time so be there early if you don't want to wait in line. Quick service would recommend only reason it's not a 5 star is because of price point for a burger and fries! read more

One of the best burgers I've had in a very long time! Patties were a little on the thin side, but were delicious. Cheese and bacon covered fries were so good with ranch dressing, a little more cheese would have been perfect. The coconut tea was amazing! I went to blue sky just to get one of my favorite burgers in Lubbock. I usually get the mushroom Swiss burger and and hen I got my food there was no mushrooms all I got was straight lattuce and a burger on top that it. That was it. The onion rings were pretty good. The fries were OK, but when I read fresh cut I think Five Guys. These were not that good. I really wanted to like the burger, but it just wasn't there. The menu says they cook it pink unless you ask otherwise. It was not pink, it was very well done. The shredded lettuce was kind of dried out. I'm going to guess they're using a pre-shredded blend from their wholesaler, but if you use that, you've got to wash it good in ice cold water to freshen it up. Otherwise it has sort of a flat, stale taste to it. And I can't blame this on the restaurant but why is it you can only get a fresh, ripe tomato for a few months out of the year. I enjoy this place. The food is consistent and the service is quick. I love the Greek Chicken Sandwich and the Onion Rings. The burgers are 'OK', hence the 4-star instead of 5-star rating. Blue Sky is probably my favorite burger place in Lubbock. The bacon cheeseburger is quite tasty with nice, thick strips of bacon on a juicy patty. I came expecting a so-so experience but was pleasantly surprised on multiple fronts with the food quality leading the way. I ordered a green chile cheeseburger with tater tots and wow, fantastic! It was perfect and I tried to figure out what made it so good and two things: you can tell the beef is freshly ground and the bun is melt in your mouth. It was perfectly cooked as well. My colleague had a chicken fried steak and he said it was also great. We had a few beers and they were very cold and tasty. I had their new IPA and liked it so had two more. Everyone was friendly and polite. They checked on us multiple times and overall, this was a top notch effort. If I had one of these places near me, I would drop shake shack like bad habit. read more

I had lunch here yesterday, 11:30, because this location is closer to work. I have never had a bad experience at the 98th & Quaker location. Yesterday the 4th Street location was a major disappointment. I waited the normal time for my meal to be prepared however it was clearly not cooked to order. The cheeseburger was lukewarm; normally they are piping hot & the cheese is melted. The fries were limp & greasy. I'm going back to 98th this weekend to restore my faith in Blue Sky.
