We have always loved Blue Sky, but we had an especially great experience today. After my family of 5 got our food, we realized that we were missing one item. I went to the counter to ask about it, and we realized that it hadn't made it on the order. The manager quickly approached and offered to bring the item to our table in just a few minutes, free of charge. Then as we were leaving, we saw the same manager come to the parking lot to help an elderly disabled person get into his car. After coming back to Lubbock from vacation in another state, we were quickly reminded what a wonderful place we live in! We really appreciated the amazing food and the even better service! read more

There are a LOT of burger joints in Lubbock and I make it a point to try them all. But, I recommend starting at Blue Sky for several reasons. First, I have NEVER had a disappointing meal from there-that means every time I have ordered a hamburger it had always tasted great, you can't make that same claim about all places. Ordering is easy. The front clerk kept putting two fingers in the cups as she picked them up to write on. I asked for another cup and she obliged without putting her fingers in it. The chicken fried steaks were REALLY fried. The gravy was a mix but was not bad. Angela liked the all beef hotdogs and said the onions were really good. Hubs wanted a burger. A good burger. And this fit the bill! Service was friendly and helpful. She explained serving sizes and answered our questions with zero judgement. Which is rare. The interior is spare, but cool, and unique. It is spacious. The tables arent crammed in too close together, which is a pet peeve of mine. It was probably one of the cleanest looking and feeling places I have been in recently. Our to go order was finished quickly, and was hot and fresh when we got home. The burgers were made accurately. My salad had the warm items packed separately so the lettuce didnt wilt! So nice! Fries were good. Everyone was FULL and we had leftovers. Will def be back! read more

Blue Sky Texas is not wheat allergy or celiac friendly. My husband called ahead to ask about a dedicated fryer which they said they have. Which ended up not being true. I had chunks of fried chicken nuggets in my french fries. He also inquired about all the ingredients in the hamburgers which they told him was 100% beef. My family of five has a combination of wheat allergies and celiac disease. We ended up having to leave before my children were finished eating because my throat, tongue and lips were swelling. I administered the first step of emergency epinephrine in the restaurant but it didn't appear to be working as quickly as I needed it to. In the parking lot my 8 year old son became itchy everywhere and began to have a hard time breathing and my 2 year old hands swelled to abnormal size, along with her having hives on her face and neck. After 3 hours we were finally able to get everyone's allergic reactions to settle down but now 4 of the 5 of us will be miserable for the next 3 to 7 days while our bodies literally attack themselves because we also have celiac disease. If you have allergies or celiac disease don't eat here. read more

I am new to town and was really craving a loaded, but not overly greasy burger. I trusted the ratings I saw here, ordered to go, and WOW. The burger did not disappoint. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and added green chilies with an Oreo shake. The meat had a great flavor and the bun had a crisp edge with added soften to the middle. Was in Lubbock for work on Friday Night. I had heard about this burger place from a co-worker. I am glad I stopped by. Real clean & fresh atmosphere. Friendly cashiers. Tables were being cleaned super fast. Quite busy. I ordered a bacon cheese burger & a shiner draft. My co-worker & I shared the chili cheese fries with green chili's and an order of pepper jack cheese sticks. Man was everything large and tasted GREAT!. The patty was cooked perfectly, medium. The bun is a white light brioche type bun. Lots of bacon & cheese. One of best burgers I have had. The chili cheese fries are HUGE. Two of us barely put a dent in them. If you want a great burger, you're looking in the right spot. For some reason their hot wings have my heart. I'm not sure if it's because the wings are spicy through the brining/breading process which won't leave your fingers drowning in sauce. Their tator tots and fried jalapeno rings are a great pairing to any entrée. There's just one thing that I think needs a little work, which would be their fries. I wish that they weren't soggy. On the long trip from Houston to Lubbock (8hrs) I was really craving a good hamburger. Looked up some places on Yelp and settled on Blue Sky Texas. SWEET GOD... It was so good. I picked up a double patty cheeseburger with bacon, and some onion rings. Excellent... I was happy with every inch of the place! The taste was just spot on, buns soft and crisp at edges, and all the flavor of teas... man.... Kind of set up like a fudruckers, very family oriented, but it's also got a bar area blocked off by a large wall with some TVs for sports too... And the margaritas looked pretty damn good too. There's nothing like being home for the holidays. Although after an extended period of time, or say three hours in my case, there becomes a time when you need an escape from it all. As I drove down 4th Street toward the Texas Tech campus, I was pleasantly surprised to see the newest location of Blue Sky with signs out front stating that they are now open. For everything that I had heard about this restaurant and with accolades such as being voted Best of Lubbock in the burger category and Best Burger in Amarillo, my expectations were very high. Immediately upon walking in I received a warm greeting which is always a welcome and great start. Both the chicken tenders and gravy and the Frito pie with queso were tempting, but with a burger that had been deemed the best of Lubbock, there was only one logical choice. I went with the bacon cheese burger and a side of onion rings. The bacon was nicely cooked, but seemed a little thin and was made up of two crossed strips. The butter toasted bun had a nice flavor while the produce was plentiful and fresh. Let's face it though, the true mark of any burger is the flavor of the meat. The Blue Sky burger consisted of a thinner patty with a decent flavor, but fell a little short of living up to the hype. The burger reminded me of something you would find at casual burger stand except it comes with more of a gourmet price. As for the onion rings, they're very thin and what I've commonly seen referred as onion strings as opposed to the more common thick cut rings. The rings were good, but a little on the greasy side and I would probably opt for fries instead on a future visit. Overall I like Blue Sky with a fresh and open, Texas themed dining area with a brick fireplace in the center and several flat screen TVs mounted around the walls. The food was good despite falling a little short due to my preconceived expectations based on the hype surrounding this establishment. This restaurant also has a nice bar area in the back that is perfect for a beer and a burger while catching a game. Price wise I spent 18 and some change for a bacon cheese burger, a cheese burger, a small onion ring and one medium drink. If I were going strictly for a burger and it weren't for the TVs or beer, I would probably opt for the Five Guys own the street. read more

I love cheeseburgers. Absolutely love them. Blue Sky Texas did not disappoint me in any way. Unlike some hamburger places, they are not about deluxe toppings and odd combinations. They are about simply good cheeseburgers with pretty typical toppings (think cheese, bacon, and jalapeños). For under $12, you can grab an amazing burger with fries and enjoy a draft beer for a great price. Just make sure to specify if you don't like mayo, because that's what comes standard on them. Stopped through Lubbock on the way back from Houston(to Denver), decided that this place sounded great, and I saw what I thought was chicken fried steak on the menu. Went with the Blue Sky Special, which to my surprise was NOT chicken fried steak. My disappointment only lasted a few seconds, because what they put together on this plate was WAY better than any chicken fried steak I have ever had! 2 patties, with grilled jalapenos and onions, smothered in a great queso! Great selection of sweet teas!!!! I was nervous about trying Coconut sweet tea, but it was the best sweet tea I have ever had!!! Maybe it was that I took it to go? It was just ok. Wasn't bad. But not wow. Fried chicken salad was a LOT of tomatoes chopped up and lots of celery (which was weird on a salad. Blue cheese very thick and not the best. Had a ranch dressing undertone. I dont like ranch. It's more like maybe added blue cheese to ranch? Burger. Mustard and mayo. Ya I should have looked closer. I also do t love shredded lettuce in burgers because it wilts soooo fast. By the time we got one mile to the hotel it was a soggy mess. I'd order salad again but as easy on the celery. I've been to Blue Sky many times during my time in Lubbock and the food is always fantastic. The burgers are cooked to perfection, which is to say, some pink throughout. The meat as well as the toppings always taste fresh too. What prompted me to write this review is that today I learned on Mondays they do a special where you get a burger, fries, and a drink for around $8. This is a great deal for how big the burger is and you save a few bucks by getting this deal. Blue Sky fits pretty nicely into the mold of Lubbock Burger joints like Buns Over Texas and Christaskis - you aren't going to get any fancy toppings on your burger, but you are going to get a very good beef patty on a pretty tasty bun. My standby is the bacon cheeseburger with green chillies, mayo, mustard, and nothing that could be considered a vegetable, and they do a very good job of constructing that simple creation. The beef is tasty, the buns toasted, and the bacon is bacon. Where Blue Sky really shines, though, is the onion rigns. They're the thin, shoestring style (which I happen to prefer), and they are brillantly friend and wonderfully seasoned. There are few vessles I prefer for delivering salty, greasy goodness unto my face. They also offer draft beer, which is a nice touch for a counter-service burger joint. A good burger demands a good beer, and Blue Sky delivers. read more

Service was fast/pleasant and I appreciated that they help charities through things like Lubbock City Lights! I had the pico pasta salad and it was great. Also tried the chips (which were seasoned nicely) and queso. The fries were not crispy, but had nice texture to them anyways. As a young man, I once ate a burger for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel we were staying at in Ely, MN. This doesn't necessarily qualify me as an expert on hamburgers, but it does speak to the love I have for this All American staple. Blue Sky in Lubbock and Amarillo, I believe, has to produce the best burgers I've ever had. Very juicy yet somewhat crispy around the edges, cooked correctly and perfectly seasoned, these burgers are, for me at least, hard to beat. The onion rings and fries (but especially the OR's) are a fine complimentary addition to the burgers. The shakes are truly thick, smooth and flavorful. Of course, they should be since they're made with Blue Bell Ice Cream. The restaurants are always clean and well kept. The orders rarely take longer than ten minutes. Lastly, for the quality of food, the prices are an excellent value and I highly recommend, without any reservation, Blue Sky Restaurants. read more
