I visited Blue Star Brothers to have an inspection for a Mini Cooper I had recently bought. The staff were warm, welcoming and professional. I had been having trouble with CarPlay and couldn't get Google Maps to work. Couldn't be happier. I needed an inspection for my car and was dreading it because I absolutely despise *with the fiery passions of hell* dealing with car issues. My car has always been a pain to get inspected since the check engine light has been on since I bought the car. It's just a sensor issue, but being 19 when I made the car purchase... I just had no idea what a hassle this would be for me. So, every year I have to go into the shop to get the light turned off, and then drive around for 50 highway miles. Huge waste of time. It's also a bigger deal in NYC since driving for 50 miles going 60+ miles per hour, is like Brooklyn to Long Island. Ugh. But, I had already received 2 parking tickets for the stupid inspection soooo I figured that it was time to just get it over and done with-- before I walked out to find my car condemned, or with a boot on it. NYC cops are no joke. The car also needed a passenger side mirror since someone hit my car and took the mirror clear off. Double ugh. The shop found me a mirror when several others had said they couldn't find the part. They had a shuttle service bring it from Long Island within 24 hours with no shipping charge. It was supposed to be silver but arrived as a goldish-brown color. Rather than bother me with the stress of this information, they just painted it to match my car for no extra charge! All said and done, it was a good price for honest car service. I am the proud owner of a brand new 2014 inspection sticker. They didn't take advantage of my car ignorance, or the fact that in was a young girl by herself-- with a jacked up car, that was desperately in need of some TLC. 5 stars from me. I have a 17 year old Mercedes which had a badly faded hood and some rust bubbles. I brought the car Blue Star. They recommended painting the hood roof and trunk lid and the bumpers. So I agreed when I got the estimate which was reasonable. A week later I picked up the car and it looked like new. They also fully detailed the car, it was vacuumed wheels cleaned, showroom condition. Totally pleased with the results. And maybe not relevant to some people, it's a family operation. Mom was working in the office, dad and sons where there, I got the sense they take real pride in there work. Blue star is has a four star rating and has the potential for five stars but they lacking detail. I have a 09 Chrysler 300 that had front end damage. MY car had custom parts that were damaged. And the parts were hard to find. I got lucky and eventually found the parts. They did a good job I wish I could say amazing, but as I said lacking detail. For me it's the little things. Horrible Service. Ivan, the manager of this auto body shop, is a scam artist. He wants to give you the impression that he cares about your car and that he cares about saving you money, but in reality all he cares about is emptying your pockets. Took my 2010 Dodge Challenger to Blue Star because of the great reviews (I live in the Bronx, so I traveled a great distance to get the best work possible). First of all, Ivan, the manager, refused to give me an estimate when I 1st met him. He danced around the question and convinced me to give him a day or two so he can give me an accurate or close to accurate estimate. Days passed & nothing. By the 5th day Ivan tells me that he can't give me an estimate until the insurance appraiser inspects the vehicle, we argued and finally I went back to Brooklyn and told Ivan to give me my car back. Once I tell him that I wanted my car back, then all of a sudden he decides to get to work on that estimate for me. He did it for me in 10 minutes. I took my car anyway. I told Ivan that I don't appreciate him jerking me around and I don't appreciate traveling over an hour on the train to get an estimate that could've been given to me over the phone. He got upset and tried to lay a guilt trip on me, tried to convince me that I owed him $150, He tells me "storage & handling"!! UNBELIEVABLE!! I told him to go F$&@ off, didn't give him a dime. Then I get into my car and find my interior driver side door panel is a wreck from the workers going in/out the vehicle as dirty as possible. I look in my glove compartment and I find a parking ticket -of all things- given to me while Blue Star maintained my vehicle parked on the street. Storage & Handling my a$$! Don't go here if you value your money and your car. If you like driving a dirty car, parking tickets and loosing money & time. Come down to Blue Star where all your dreams come to life. read more

I can only agree with the previous reviews. Dropped my beloved FX35 off after a parking incident. Nothing major but still needed a little dent fixed and a small paint job to get it back looking new. Ivan, who runs the place, is a really nice guy and talks to you in a manner that makes you feel good about what he want to do to fix it and that doing so without you feeling being cleaned out. The guys working there also seem to take pride in what they do. Got a price quote at the official Infinity shop prior to heading down to Blue Star and I saved roughly 40% from the original Infinity quote and the car looks great. I haven't written a review on Yelp since.. Well, since I lived in San Francisco. But this was worth it. My driver's side car window had been smashed in and I needed to get it fixed. Usually I've gone to two hour auto glass in Windsor Terrace- and they do a good job- but to be quite honest, living in Greenpoint, I didn't really feel like sitting on glass shards and rolling down the BQE just to go to someplace familiar. So I looked this place up on Yelp and decided to take a chance. Totally worth it. Not only was the price $50 less than what I had paid the last time a window was smashed in 3 years ago, the work was done IN AN HOUR, the car was entirely cleaned out on the inside and the people in the office were incredibly helpful and polite. (I hope this doesn't mean that the prices are going to go up now..) Oh, and it was 4 blocks away from my house. Anyways, the only downside is that it was a bit hard to find, considering there were half a dozen auto body shops on the block. This time I did not bother shopping around & comparing etc. as I did approx. 2 years ago on my first visit. Needless to say this alone saved much hassle and time. Ivan dealt with their insurance co (yes-the other driver was at fault) which saved further hassle. I was also offered a ride to the rental car. Now I must say that this time I was not quite as amazed as when I picked up my car the first time around! But-Obviously, I had been spoiled the first time so I did have very high expectations. I leased a VW Rabbit and two weeks before I was ready to turn it in and buy a new car, it got smashed while parked by a tractor trailer... Luckily, the cops were near by and got the truck driver before he could pull away. The whole passenger side was crushed! So here I am, with a leased car that has to be turned in within a matter of days with no passenger side left on the car. Thank goodness for Yelp. I'm originally from Philly and had no idea where to go... These guys made this thing look like brand new. When I returned the Rabbit to Manhattan VW I wasn't charged a penny for any damages. They did such a good job, that he even repaired things (minor dents and dings) AND shampooed the interior for free so I didn't have a bill sent to me from the leasing agency! Then, it gets better... I bought my new car. Brand new VW TDI. I was parked at the Atlantic Terminal and a cab side-swiped it while parked! AGAIN! Not the end of the world, but a def scrape down the driver's side. I brought it to Blue Star and they painted and buffed the scratches for free and they did it that day!!! He said I was such a pleasant customer, and he did end up making good money on the leased car that he waived the cost! The car once again looked like new. Every body shop should take lessons from these guys. Not only were the prices reasonable, they understand how to get repeat business. They have earned themselves a customer for life. Easily the best auto shop in the city. Ivan and co. work quickly, thoroughly, communicatively and, most importantly, HONESTLY. Anyone with a car in this town has been ripped off at least a handful of times by less than reputable shop managers. Never the case with Ivan. The first time I came into the shop, I was quoted a very reasonable estimate for body work to my Jeep and the estimate held. No last minute unverifiable issues resulting in additional charges. No weird fees added on at the end. Nothing like that. I swore from that day on that I'd never set foot in another shop again - and I haven't. I've even moved my company's vehicle maintenance account to Blue Star. That's how much I love this place. There are few businesses that I like to gush about. This is one of them. I had a little run-in with a Hasidic mini-van on Broadway and Hooper (who hasn't - those guys drive like aggressive maniacs) and had to get the front headlight on my Volvo 240 replaced. After my really great experience at Blue Star over the summer, I went back. I'm always wary about going to mechanics or doing any car-related stuff because I know nothing about them. As a woman, I feel especially vulnerable walking into these "masculine" places, where I feel like I'm at an immediate disadvantage. I've felt targeted before by mechanics as the dumb broad who can be taken advantage of since she doesn't know a thing about cars. I didn't feel this at all at Blue Star. The owner, Ivan, treats me like an equal. He explains everything he has done, showing me the parts he replaced and why he had to replace them. I feel certain he is completely honest - an all-around stand-up guy. I, once again, recommend this place without reservations. If you have any body work you need done, go there! So I took my Toyota Corolla 05 here after some douche bag backed up too much and hit my driver side fender and a lil strip from my door. I took it here because of all the good reviews but man i tell you what they took their sweet time on a 2-3 day job. I took the car in on Monday and didnt get back until Saturday. The job they did was good but they left the inside of my car dirty like crazy and i some wear and tear on my driver side mirror and inside my door by the small speaker. Would I take it back here? Yes! but i would tell them to stop being so sloppy! The body and paint job was a++ tho.. bring your car here just be upfront and make sure they dont leave the inside dirty. read more

Ivan (the dad) and Ivan (the son) are as fast and good as it gets. Highest recommendation, I almost want to wreck my car in order to work with them again. To start with the work is immaculate - IMMACULATE - and dirt cheap -- they did a $3000 job for us for $1250. The car was a Mercedes C300. The guys are absolutely sweet, kind, efficient and considerate. They came in earlier than promised and under budget. I can be a real knuckle-dragging jerk, but simply couldn't be more pleased at how things went. I carry their business cards in my wallet and recommend them to anybody. Just in case any Manhattanites are scared off a trip to Brooklyn, this one is a simple trek. Take the 59th street bridge, a right onto Jackson avenue, proceed for about a mile and take a left onto the Pulaski Bridge, then a quick left onto India - they are half way up the block on the right. I came to Blue Star Brothers for some minor body work to be done on my rear bumper, after reading all of the positive reviews on yelp. Following what I mistakenly assumed was a positive exchange with Ivan earlier this week, it became clear to me as the week progressed that Ivan had no intention of working on my vehicle. On Monday, he asked me to call on Tuesday, as he was very busy. Understood. On Tuesday, I spoke with his teenage son over the phone who asked me to call on Wednesday. I called Wednesday morning and was promised an early Friday appointment. I never bothered calling this morning because I assumed the arrangement was legitimate. I wasn't the slightest bit surprised when I arrived this morning and was told to now, BRING IT IN ON MONDAY! No explanation and from what I could see, not busy at all. On a separate but equally important note, Ivan quoted me a price of $375 for the job on Monday, after which I mentioned the 10% yelp discount. Not sure if there's a connection between not getting the job done and suggesting the discount. Who knows. I ended up taking my car to another body shop - with a more reputable reputation - and was quoted $225! This price was for painting the entire bumper and not just the immediate area surrounding the scratches, as Ivan suggested. BEWARE, fellow YELPERS. We used Blue Star Brothers for some minor repair a few months ago and our car just wasn't the same after. We finally took it to our regular mechanic (we've been using him for 15 years) this week and he told me that someone switched out our newly installed brakes pads and put in used ones. They also broke/lost our wiper fluid nozzles while replacing the wipers. Blue Star kept our car for three days even after assuring me the car would be ready the next day. First things first, the owners of this place are indeed extremely nice fellas. They are patient, attentive, reasonably priced and all around likable. But on to the important stuff: the work... The work I had performed was rather simple, a small re-paint job on a newer model sedan door. While not "horrific", it was barely acceptable. The color match was perfect but that's the easy part. There were many, many dust marks, imperfections and spots on the new paint. Surprisingly these imperfections were presented as being quite "normal" by one of the partners. What? They eventually offered to repaint it. Great, I thought. But the result was exactly the same. While not huge issues, a few peeves: - They were 9 hours AHEAD of the promised completion time the first time (a rushed job or overestimation?) - They were unable to deliver as promised the second time, delaying delivery several times including another overnight and delay. - The general cleaning inside and out was terrible; grease marks on the leather, smudge marks on the glass everywhere, heavy compound residue on the sides and undercarriage. I did notice many of the other rave reviews (which are unusually all fives) were for work on older model cars. Maybe they perform better work on older models, or maybe it's just less noticeable. I notice other reviewers with newer models are also not happy. Maybe they just dropped the ball on this one. However, when a place has an unusual number of five star ratings and then several others at the other end of the spectrum, you have to wonder. Overall, not impressed. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back to this place should I need future body work done. read more
