Probably one of the best breakfast I've ever had. This is located bright inRoslindale Square across from my credit union. When we went to have breakfast I had yelp to find a close place by to find breakfast and this came up. The food was cooked order it was perfect the server was very nice and friendly explaining everything that they had. This is a place I've heard about for years. It's a small restaurant serving breakfast and lunch. We ordered steak, a pancake, French toast, bacon, an omelette, home fries, and toast. Overall the food was bland. The pancake was tough. The French toast was thick and fluffy but not flavorful. The toast was barely toasted. If you order one egg and one pancake, keep in mind that it only comes with one slice of bacon literally. The steak was nice and tender. I didn't order it well but it came out the perfect medium well, which I usually don't order. If I have to go back, I will only go for steak tips. The ambience is regular diner like noise. The service is fast and very friendly. Our server was the only one and she worked the whole restaurant. She was quick and the food was piping hot. However, neither could compensate for the overall bland food. I won't be back if I can help it. :( read more

Its like the toss a slice on cheese on it right before they bring it out. Then today I get lunch for the first time so I get the prosciutto panini (without the prosciutto) so basically a mozzarella tomato pesto panini. 1. Its not a panini its just toasted bread 2. The cheese isn't even melted. 3. Half of it is cheese and the other half is pesto & tomato. Makes no sense. I used to really like this place but I'm probably just not going to come anymore. Would've had better breakfast at ihop. Pick the worse cook in your family and ask them to throw together breakfast for the fam, that's what this tasted like. They are over priced, and charge extra for syrup, but the food was convenient for me. I came here today and ordered an omelette. I asked for everything to be cooked well done, and my bacon was undercooked. When I brought it back to the restaurant, they asked if I wanted my money back, but I said very nicely that they could either give me the money back or just give me a side of well cooked bacon. The owner got an attitude with me and said that he gave me extra bacon so I can have my money back and do not come back to the restaurant. I had never heard of putting items in French toast so I was interested to try it. I would say it tasted more like a bread than a traditional French toast, but it was still pretty good. It was our first time and it was average. Prices are moderate not cheap. There is no sign saying to seat ourselves or what to do, it is awkward in any small spaced restaurant. After scanning the reviews here, seating has has come up before with other customers as well. This as well as the attentiveness of staff to refill coffee which is customary during breakfast time. If I ask myself why I experience this and others experience these two things over and over, it would be that the owner doesn't care. It's the small things that make a business great. It took 15 minutes to get the waitresses' attention away from chatting with staff for a refill on coffee. I realized that the tables all around me were waiting for more coffee as well, unable to get her attention. The coffee was made, but the waitress didn't seem to take notice that customers would like some of this coffee. The food, was o.k., nothing special. All around, attentiveness to customers would be a suggestion. Cash only, parking on street if you can find a spot. If you expect us to keep coming, make it worth the trip. read more

WARNING DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS !! I pull up and order my food. While waiting, I endearingly watch an Elderly couple stroll at their pace to the restaurant. They were both on walkers so it took them a while. The husband was a little slower but his wife never went to far ahead of him. The way they expressed their love expressed their love nearly moved me to tears. He was a tall Black man. You can tell he was a proud Black man. I noticed the Free Mason emblems on his car, a clean Cadillac SUV and his military pins attached to his hat. I noticed, no matter how long either of them took they waited for each other if one got to far, as in to far to reach the other, the one that was furthest waited. It took them a while but they made it. I offered my assistance as much as I could, then held the door for them to go in. I watched them be as respectful as possible to everyone in the small restaurant. Careful not to bump a table or a chair. There was about 4 small tables littered throughout the room but there was absolutely no way for them to get to any of these tables. There was one large enough to accommodate both of them (his wife was a tall woman as well) and their walkers, aside from the one closet to the door that said 5 to 6 ppl. But again the place is packed and under these circumstances you would think they would be good, WRONG. After watching them do all of that they declined to serve them!! Of course this couple was African American and the establishment, patrons and staff included were all white or Russian/ Ukrainian or Polish. After voicing my concerns the waitress replied "it's not me it's the manager". I replied, "I'd like to speak to the manager". Mind you my $50 breakfast was ready, this broad says, "he no here today". WTF!!!!! I was livid but maintained the coolest affect and said , in announcement "I will never spend another dollar in this place due to the treatment of that disabled elderly couple who was just turned away" and I left that shit right there on the counter. So I got the #9 combo: veggie omelet with cheese, 2 pancakes ($9.59). I also ordered a side of home fries (2.50) so that I could have a good review for yelp The home fries were better than I expected. I looked at them & thought "ugh I'm gonna need to add salt & pepper" but none of that was necessary. They were well seasoned on their own. I just added hot sauce since there was no ketchup on the table. But this is something I do out of habit. The omelet was also very tasty & well seasoned! Veggies tasted fresh. Very filling. The cheese added a nice flavor and wasn't overwhelming. The pancakes were not good. They seriously tasted like freezer brand pancakes heated on the grill. Lucky for them, I love all pancakes and hadn't had any in over a month because of my diet. But I could've done those myself. You expect a diner to at least have amazing pancakes. My mom and I went here on a Sunday. It was kind of crowded and it's a small establishment, so it felt even more so. However, the food wasn't that great. Actually, the prosciutto, mozz & tomato "panini" I got was bad. The prosciutto looked old and the mozzarella wasn't fresh mozzarella--it was some weird, low-budget kind. When I told the waitress that I wanted it taken off the bill because I was dissatisfied, she told me after she went to go speak with one of her coworkers that she couldn't do that. Bad customer service. So, I ended up not eating the panini. (The side of fresh fruit is quite good, though.) Then my mom asked her if she could speak with the manager when we were done with our food and she went to go see. Then she came back and said, "Actually, the manager isn't here today." Uh, wouldn't she have known that to begin with? And then another waitress came over (she was probably the manager, tbh) and we told her the situation. She was nice and said, "Of course we can do that," meaning they could take my panini off the bill. That's why I'm giving this place two stars instead of one. I'm sad to write this review since Blue Star has been one of my go-to breakfast spots for years. How many restaurants use leeks in their omelets? Blue Star has two - German (ham, leeks, Swiss - my favorite) and Albanian (leeks, meatballs, feta). But COVID-19 safety is a big deal, and Blue Star missed mask compliance mark today, and I won't be going again. There were two other occupied tables in the restaurant...with seniors! I have been to few restaurants post-COVID, but this one is definitely off the list. Of three people I viewed in the kitchen area, none were wearing their masks for the brief time I stayed in the restaurant, and I left as soon as possible. The cook had a mask around his neck the whole time and was chatting it up with a guy with an outdoor jacket on, no mask in sight. Jacket guy kept coming into the dining space to help himself to coffee, and slightly covered his nose with his jacket collar because he could see patrons in the dining area. I don't know if he was staff or kitchen visitor. An older lady had a mask around her neck, and she was coming & going between those guys in the kitchen to restock mugs and glasses in the dining area without mask. The server wore his mask the entire time, but when I said that no one in back was wearing a mask, he said "Thank you". My wife and I came in for post-farmers market lunch. This was just an awful experience. First the food.. I had the chicken cutlet sandwich. Mechanically separated chicken patty with warm soggy lettuce... My wife's spanakopita looked like it was out of a freezer and only half reheated; her sides were even more pitiful. The fries were the only acceptable food we were offered. The service.. Our waitress disappeared after our food showed up. I spent about 20 minutes trying to get her to refill my water. By the time she came over, my wife was out of water as well. However, our waitress ignored the fact that there were two empty glasses, refilled mine, and simply walked away. Blue Star Restaurant is a savior for one who dines on a budget. The service is friendly and their food is pretty good too. They have some of the cheapest egg dishes. One egg (plus homefries and toast) will cost you $3.50 plus tax. Their omelets are about $8. My favorite breakfast is their cinnamon french toast ($5.50). My boyfriend orders their Greek omelet almost every time and loves it. Their portions are a decent size - especially their pancakes which come in several different flavors including sweet potato. They have several Greek dishes on their lunch menu - the spinach pie plate is delicious as is the grape leaves dish. I believe most of their lunches are between 7 and 9 dollars. Keep in mind that it's cash only and you may want to skip their coffee ($2.50), it tends to be on the weak side. They do serve a nice strong cup of hot chocolate! read more

I have gone here for years, during it's phase with the basic Formica counter, to the latest renovation , which is nice. But nothing beats sitting at a Formica counter with the Globe, Coffee, and some little old guy trying to flirt. Here to be had is a good basic breakfast; fresh hot eggs, lovely home fries and good strong coffee. There is a nice mix of Rosi here, from elders speaking to each other in Greek to young couple with Toddlers and single people. Service is warm and friendly. During that 55 minutes we were not offered coffee refills. The food was good. Only after we were completely done, were we asked how the meal was. By that time, the place was half empty. My 7 year old and I go to Blue Star for lunch about once a month. She loves the greek-style chicken noodle soup and the fries - and to people-watch through the big bay windows. Healthy portions of hearty no-nonsense Greek-American food for very reasonable prices. Friendly service and always filled with a wide cross-section of our Rosi neighborhood. The owners recently renovated the place and it's looking very nice and shiny these days (although I wish that with so many young familes coming in they wouldn't leave the TV over the counter on CNN/FoxNews all day).
