Y'all, I don't know how I've never been to this place until this weekend! I went on Saturday to do a little work and eat some great grub and loved it so much I took Sweet Hubs back on Sunday! It is a laid back, surfer themed restaurant with a walk up and order- they bring it to your table- style system. I had a huevos rancheros that I adored at another local restaurant over a year ago. It blew my mind and I have been trying to find that same flavor at other local restaurants ever since. I hadn't been successful...UNTIL I met the huevos Castro on Saturday. Corn tortillas, sweet and tender pulled pork, black beans, sauteed green onions, cilantro, and two over easy eggs drizzled with a sweet and savory white sauce. Super delicious sandwiches, the Mahi Mahi Sandwich was so incredible and was perfectly paired with a mango salsa. The whole vibe of the restaurant was relaxed beach inspired and they had pieces of beautiful local art up for sale. The seating arrangements were fun. Their To-Go waiting area was a nice little spot with surf magazines to flip though while we waited for our meal. The girl taking our order was also super helpful and nice to talk to, everyone was friendly and I'm so glad we tried this place out for lunch today. I have a problem with an order-taker who cannot keep her mask over her nose even after repeated requests to cover it. As someone with underlying conditions that is a worry to me and soured my experience. My turkey avocado tasted like it was made of pre-packaged sliced turkey and the mango in my wife's mango salsa was not ripe and not sweet at all. The chips were from a bag. Overall, a bad experience and my first and last visit. I would also expect a restaurant called Blue Surf Cafe to have more seafood options. There were few on the lunch menu, at least. I blame bad management in allowing its employee flout the restaurant's legal obligation. read more

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here! I had the mahi power bowl (fish cooked well, beans seasoned nicely, veggies tasty and not smushy), my husband the mahi sandwich (he loved it), and my kids the meatloaf sandwich (amazing) and the chicken quesadilla (standard but good). Blue Surf Cafe is a wonderful local restaurant with a chill vibe, great food, and reasonable prices. It's easy for my wife and I to come here and eat dinner for under $20, which makes Blue Surf a great quick, delicious, and inexpensive option when we don't feel like cooking. But the real magic happens at breakfast and brunch where you can get some of the best food in Wilmington. I recommend the Good Old Boy plate (pictures) that comes with two eggs, bacon, sausage, multigrain toast, and the best cheese grits ever. My wife loves the Signature Breakfast "Castro Style" (pictured) with the black beans, pulled pork, and jalapeños. Fresh, nice portion, tomatoes, avocado, red onion, carrot and Parmesan strips with grilled chicken breast tossed in a light lemon Vinegarette. Delicious however the chicken was cut into strips, was not moist and was over grilled and under flavored. I would visit again and try another option. A solid 4 of 5 stars. The meal was OK, but the second time I visited was for an art opening featuring the paintings of some friends, and also some friends of mine were providing the musical accompaniment to the show.
