It was so nice to be out sitting at a restaurant! The Blue Window Bistro took all social distancing precautions, their staff had on masks, and it was a lovely day to sit outside. We started with celebratory cocktails, a dragonfruit mojito and a cherry limeade Moscow mule. Very lovely and tasty . Just forgot to snap a photo before we destroyed the decorations on top. The soup of the day was mulligatawny! It was rich in flavor and velvety in texture, loaded with veggies, chicken, and spices. I could not pass up the fried green tomato BLT when I spotted it on the menu. Bonus ingredients were the guacamole and fried jalapeño inside. The smokey bacon, creamy guac, spicy pepper, and the tangy zing of the green tomatoes made for a perfect lunchtime sandwich. On and it was on toasted sour dough bread! My daughter had the grilled salmon tacos, topped with a delicious slaw, and a side of black beans. The only thing not full of flavor was the black beans. They were just bland and ordinary. My sandwich was so large that I asked to a to go box, I couldn't possibly eat another bite. Then our waiter asked us if we wanted dessert. Okay, we could muster up some room for dessert. The creme brûlée has a hit of rose and a decorative drizzle of raspberry coulee around the edges of the plate. It was rich, creamy, with visible vanilla bean speckles. So yummy. My daughter loves chocolate mousse, and was thrilled that it was one of their many dessert offerings. It was rich and chocolaty, but was very very dense. It was not light and fluffy as you would anticipate a mousse to be. She left more than half of it. I don't ever remember seeing her not finish eating a dessert. A lot to choose from on the menu, I had the blue corn enchiladas and I thought they were pretty good. But I've had a lot of New Mexican food and the sauce is so spicy almost always too spicy to eat but it was flavorful either way. The Godiva chocolate cheesecake was amazing! The iced tea was good. When I called to see what days they were open I got a bit of an attitude like I should know they aren't open on weekends because "it has been that way for years !" We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary here. We had the Scallops and the Surf and Turf. We also had the fried calamari appetizer. For desert, I had the creme brulè. My wife had the lemon cake. It was a pricey meal, but well worth it for our special occasion. The price with one draft beer and a margarita was well north of $100. They forgot to record that I requested a window seat when I made the reservation, which was a little annoying, After a bit of angst, we realized that there were seats on the patio. Once we were seated, the service was outstanding. It was a memorable meal as good as anything we could have gotten in Santa Fe for the same price. I have long thought the Blue Window was the best restaurant in Los Alamos, but maybe not up to what we could find in Santa Fe. This meal moved them up a notch in our opinion. read more

Started with host telling us no seating outside even though other folks were outside. Throughout our meal, people were being seated outside. Started with one server and before ordering the waitress changed. Ordered loaded nachos. Asked for pork on nacho. Server said I don't know if there are extra portions of pork so no. Did not even check with the kitchen, just told us NO and charged us full price without meat. Overall, service was poor & felt we were ignored, and lunch was fair. Very disappointing! read more

Recommended by a local when I was in town for work. I didn't make a reservation, but there were several empty tables when I arrived. I was dining alone. Was told it would be about a 20 minute wait. After waiting, seated right in front of the host, 25 minutes and watching several parties of 2 being seated immediately, I asked how much longer. Oh, I can seat you now. He must have misplaced the scrap of paper he wrote my name on. After being seated, I waited another 10 minutes before the server came to my table. I had a veggie enchilada and house margarita. I did not know that Blue Window caters. Perhaps they don't. Perhaps they only cater for friends or for extraordinary events like memorials for the Greats of our community. I attended a memorial service at Fuller Lodge catered by Blue Window. The food was as adventurous, robust, interesting, and satisfying as the personality of the one we said goodbye to. Thank you, Blue Window. You offered us a lovely table around which the more than a hundred old-timers and all the younger friends could stand around and remember when there was Science in Service to the Nation. read more

I stopped by here yesterday with my wife for lunch. We were in Los Alamos around lunch time and looking for a place to eat whenever we found Blue Window Bistro. Whenever we walked in the door we were greeted by the hostess and then told that we would have a 10-15 minute for a table. After a 5 minute wait or so we were asked if a table at the bar was ok. It was and so we were led back to our table. Since we sat in the bar area I didn't get to see much of the actual restaurant. However the bar area here was quite large with 7 tables and seating for 14 at the bar itself. There were 2 flat screen TVs and then some exposed ductwork and I beams which were painted black to minimize how much of them you saw. For lunch on this day I decided to go with the shredded NM beef enchiladas with red and green chile sauce. The menu described it as your choice of shredded chicken, slow roasted New Mexico shredded beef, organic baby spinach, or garden vegetables layered between blue corn tortillas, smothered with your choice of red or green chile and cheddar cheese and served with your choice of black or pinto beans. Whenever it first came out I have to admit that I wasn't that impressed with it. However as I dug into it I ended up being very happy with my meal. There was a large amount of beef inside of the enchilada and it was super tender while also a bit spicy. The beans were flavorful and I liked that the lettuce had both tomato and tomatillo on it. It's actually the first time I have had a tomatillo like that and I may very well do it again. The only part of the meal which I didn't care for were the two large fried bay leaves which were in the beef. As anyone who has ever put one in their mouth before would tell you, it's not pleasurable. Still, it was a good meal which I enjoyed. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I really enjoyed our food and so why not. read more

OK, I've been here before truth be told. Wonderful place. I usually sit at the bar and I'm traveling by myself and I've had wonderful steaks wonderful French onion soup today as I was looking to see when they were open. I noticed that everybody was raving about the Greek salmon salad. Well, those people are right that's the most incredible salmon salad I've ever had. Wonderful Greek salad, which can also be average when not done correctly. This is salad I'd perfect with feta cheese (high quality) cucumber, wonderful crisp lettuce, Kalamata olives, but the crowning glory was the perfectly cooked piece of salmon nestled on top. Cooked to perfection,the smoky grilled filet was crisp and Delightfully, fresh and highly enjoyable. I will definitely come back to this place for many entrées, but I will gladly get the salmon salad again. read more

Googled this pace since we were literally on the sidewalk next to it and saw the good reviews at Yelp, Trip Advisor, etc.. Decided to give it a try Packed to the gills at lunch hour on a thursday. We had a short 15 minute wait and got seated. First off, the Artichoke/Gouda dip with a dollop of pico de gallo on top was top of the class great. Wife and I inhaled it. At $12 for a medium sized bowl it might seem hi priced. Eat it and you'll know where the money went. Quality ingredients and prep. Chopped steak and bacon tacos with the usual toppings was tasty & tender, perfect, as was wife's chicken panini. Service was on point, they're staffed with plenty enuf talent to handle a big lunch crowd. we both said we'd like to give it try at night. read more
