Stopped in on a whim one Sunday morning. Didnt wait long for a table and the service was fast (including food). Super clean and inviting, all waitstaff was attentive and pleasant. We got Chicken and waffles and a green chili cheese omelet. The sauce for the chicken and waffles was so awesome, had such depth of flavor. Smoky, spicy, sweet excellence! I'm a sucker for a cafe with grits and was so pleased at the creamy texture and it had lots of flavor (many places lack!) Coffee was always hot and fresh! The kitchen staff was cranking out food non-stop and seemed like it was effortless (though I know it is far from). Thanks for a wonderful breakfast experience, we will absolutely be back!! read more

Cute little diner with AMAZING food. Even on a pretty busy Sunday, we were seated (table of 2) under 15 minutes. The menu had all the basics, plus a ton of interesting New Orleans style dishes. I got two eggs poached with wheat toast and yellow grits. The eggs were poached to perfection and the grits were simple, but delicious. The show stopped was the pancake. Made with malt flour, it is both light and fluffy with a good texture that just melts in your mouth. Definitely made the right choice for breakfast! read more

Great breakfast! My breakfast burrito was stuffed with hash browns, onions and a savory sauce. With the side of black beans it was enough for two meals! My husband ordered the corn beef hash and he gave it a thumbs up. The second cup of coffee was much better than the first. Andrea was a friendly waitress. We will make this a regular stop. read more

I love place like the Bluebird. You've got people killing themselves to open restaurants in interesting places with interesting themes and they come in and go out all the time. Here's a group of people who said, "Strip mall? No problem. Small place? No Problem. We're just going to crush it with food and nothing else will matter." And they do! All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The tables were not crowded in. Coffee? Spot on. We had three different meals, each of which were great. "The Best Ever" is over rated on YELP but I've have had Huevos Rancheros all over the country and I've never had any better than The Bluebird's! read more

My husband and I went here for brunch today, we are in the area for a wedding this week. I saw on Yelp it's listed as Cajun food which was intriguing to me, as I know he really enjoys that type of food. I am not a big breakfast person so I got a side order of toast and ham. The toast was great, the ham was a little too grilled for my liking. We also split an order of the fried green tomatoes, which was another reason I wanted to come to this cafe, because that's one of my favorite dishes and I feel like it's hard to find sometimes. The tomatoes were great and it came with a semi-spicy dipping sauce, I think it might have horseradish or something in it. My husband ordered the special of the day, the crawfish roll, and really liked it. It comes with a side and he chose to upgrade it to sweet potato fries, which were very good. Service was fast and friendly as well. I would return when in the area, their pancakes and other breakfast stuff also looked very good and they also have lunch things like sandwiches. read more

It's been again quite some time (7 years!) since we visited Bluebird, but my hat's off to them for maintaining a high quality and standard for food service! We happened to be in the area, it was closing in on lunchtime, so we decided to visit for old time's sake - and were we happy with the decision. I had a breakfast (ok, brunch) special: two eggs (any way) with jambalaya hash and home fries; my wife had their fried catfish po' boy (I just realized that this particular meal had a def whiff of Louisiana ...). The jambalaya hash was excellent, flavorful, with tasty bites of sausage. (I assume that the chef was probably re-purposing leftover jambalaya from a previous menu, but fried up as a hash was brilliant!) My wife reported that her po' boy was also very good, nicely fried fresh fish fillet, and well-seasoned. All in all a happy and tasty reunion! read more

Breakfast with a New Orleans twist! This place gets crowded real quick, though they do have a small waiting area. The dining room is large with about 20 or so tables and very attentive wait staff keeps things lively and moving. The menu itself is standard fare you would expect in a breakfast spot with a southern twist. They offer grits, biscuits, and other southern specialties alongside normal New England fare. The additions to the meals themselves include Cajun spices, Mexican offerings, and chicken & waffles. They are well crafted and aren't just after thoughts on the menu, the huevos rancheros especially are amazing and worth the trip by themselves. Overall, a really special spot in Wakefield! read more

Completely depends on what type of breakfast you're out for. Light healthy vegan whatever, you're in the wrong neighborhood. Delicious, heavy, cheesy "I'll balance it out with a salad later" greasy spoon, it's perfect. Good bottomless coffee for 3 bucks a person. Huevos rancheros and everything else were heaaaavy on the cheese but I can't say I didn't like it, those plates got destroyed. It is what it presents itself as. Grits as a southerner for a decade didn't impress me at all but the overall experience is delicious, just prepare to want to take a nap after. read more

This place is unassuming from the outside but the food was absolutely delicious and was cooked so well. The omelet was pretty close to perfection - veggies could've been cut up a little smaller but not a huge deal because they tasted delicious (they also went very heavy on the onions, I love onions but there were a few too many, they were grilled which helped it not overpower too much but I'd recommend if getting grilled onions in the omelet, emphasize that you want a little bit of onions and they'll probably give the perfect amount - either that or whoever was cooking was just being heavy handed that day) The home fries were impeccable, seasoned great and cooked to the exact doneness without being hard or mushy The waffle was phenomenal, I wish real maple syrup was an option, even for an up charge I would've done it because I hate gooey fake syrup that's all corn syrup basically. But honestly even that couldn't ruin it, the batter was delicious and cooked to perfection without being overdone or underdone. Great place!! Highly recommend! read more

All of this located in a strip mall across from the post office in Wakefield. A great way to start a spring weekend beach day before the tourists descend upon Narragansett - or a nice drive down for a winter brunchy-poo. Weekdays I've never waited but anytime after 10 there is always a wait on the weekends. But there is a very interesting army navy surplus next door to pass the time til your table is ready. I had stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for a breakfast joint before my appointment at the hospital. So convenient, fast service and the food was absolutely amazing! I ordered the corn beef hash meal that came with toast, eggs made how you like them, and you could request for grits or home fries. I opted for the grits and I didn't regret it. They were smooth and creamy and absolutely divine with some maple syrup. The corn beef hash was tasty and included carrots and scallions and spices. Sooo delicious! Don't sleep on this establishment! Visited the Bluebird today with my Mom and daughter. I don't really write reviews very often but I wanted to say that we had a wonderful lunch. Our server was incredible, she cleaned the highchair 2x for my daughter (I didn't ask her too), super friendly, pleasant, helpful and all around wonderful. One of the chefs came out and said hello and the food was just awesome. According to the reviews we saw, we expected to walk into a cute and cozy diner. It was neither. Just a giant yellow room with posters on the wall. Arriving at noon, I was thinking about lunch, the sandwiches on the menu looked great as well as the salad varieties but I thought, as it was our first time, I should try something representative of their cooking ability. I decided on the breakfast burrito as it's one of my favorite breakfast items with a side of grits. The service was quick and friendly and the food came out fast but that's where the good vibes ended. I must preface by saying I love spicy and I love Cajun inspired foods. But the burrito I was served was really just stuffed with home fries, huge slabs of onion and lots of chili powder flavor. I'm still trying to get that flavor out of my mouth. It wasn't too bad at first bite but I couldn't finish it. I took all the potatoes out but there was little else in there. Some flakes of eggs? Where were the scrambled eggs? Shouldn't that have been the main player? The grits were awful too. I eat grits all the time in FL and love them. These were mushy with no flavor. Don had 2 eggs, toast, home fries. Hard to ruin, right? But he also hated the home fries which he called uncooked. Now, there were plenty of options that we could have tried - including p'boys - but nothing we saw or ate gives us reason to return. read more

No idea why this place got good reviews. - place is dingy and out of date in appearance - ladies room was possibly not dirty but it was so old looking that it just felt icky - I ordered that shrimp po boy and it was nasty. Way too much breading on the shrimp, could not really tell there was shrimp under the batter...no flavor to it and it was dry. I got mayo to slather on it to give it some flavor. read more
