We were traveling with our puppy and looking for a pet friendly casual place to eat with outdoor seating. The atmosphere at Karie's was perfect, as they have picnic tables outside next to a grassy lawn. Although we were the only ones seated in this section on a cool October day, the staff was really friendly, welcoming, and kept our coffee and water refilled. We would have been content with that, but the food was pretty dynamite too! Eggs Benedict seem to be one of their specialties, and they have some intriguing varieties. The pulled pork over cornbread version was savory and filling, and the salmon burger and avocado toast were also enjoyable. We've been to Jiggers so we figured since we were in the area we'd try Jiggers south (now Karie's kitchen). For me the highlight was my virgin Bloody Mary. It was HUGE!! Delicious, flavorful, spiced but not overly so. A meal in itself. My friend had a burrito Sammie which looked good. I didn't try it. The grits were soft and creamy but lacked flavor, they were very bland. The bacon cheddar waffle which was really good. Also very bland though. The home fries were hard and overcooked/rubbery. I was at Karie Kitchen on MLK weekend and watched a young African man be publicly removed by police for no visible reason. He was sitting at the bar, reading a book, calmly conversing with others, and waiting for his food. He was not disruptive. He was not causing a problem. He was simply existing. Then four cops entered the restaurant, hands on their hips, positioned near their guns, and without any explanation to the room, surrounded him and escorted him out. The power imbalance was immediate and unmistakable. The silence from staff was just as loud. On MLK weekend of all times, watching a Black man be treated as a threat while doing nothing wrong was chilling. This wasn't about safety it was about control, optics, and who is deemed "acceptable" in certain spaces. I don't know what happened after he was taken outside, but I genuinely hope he is safe. Moments like this matter. Businesses don't get to claim neutrality when harm is unfolding in front of them. If you allow this kind of policing to happen in your space without transparency or accountability, you are choosing a side. Safety, dignity, and humanity should apply to everyone not just the people who make others comfortable. read more

My favorite are the waffles, which my wife always ends up eating half of, but everything is great and the service is always quick and accurate. Stopped in for Sunday brunch about 10 AM. Got out about 12:10. Definitely NOT worth the wait for unremarkable eggs, bacon and toast. Here is our story: There was a 45 minute wait, which seems to be normal for most places around here. We got our table at about 11. The waiter set us up with coffees, came back and took our orders. All good. There are only about 10 tables here, 6 on the deck, maybe 3 inside. I counted 4 servers. After about 30 minutes I started noticing things. There were two empty tables and it took about 10 minutes to fill them. There was no food coming out. Not a single table had food and none was coming out. I decided I'd write this review while I waited as we were now pretty annoyed, especially when our server told another table they didn't have enough waitstaff. What? 4 servers for 10 tables? I drank my coffee, waited, waited some more. After about 20 minutes I walked up to the counter and asked for another cup. After another 20 minutes (40 minutes from when we sat down) food did start to come out...just not ours. Somehow we got shuffled back in the queue. Another 5 minutes and our food finally came out. The breakfasts were nothing to write home about, nothing special. Just eggs, bacon and toast. Certainly not something to spend 2 hours to get. read more

We were out again for a random weekend drive, this time down to Newport and back. As has recently become our habit, we stopped for lunch on the way home. Coming up route 1A through North Kingstown, we saw a big sign saying nothing but "Restaurant" so I hit the brakes. What we found was Karie's Kitchen (formerly Jiggers South). This quaint little farm-to-table eatery is a hidden gem. Emma, our server from Idaho by way of Michigan was pleasant and engaging. She explained the owner Karie's culinary philosophy of locally sourced Rhode Island ingredients supporting fellow small businesses in the Ocean State. I had one of the lunch specials: Cup of Chowder with the Fish 'n Chips plate. This decision was in no small part due to Emma's description of the lightly fresh Haddock. Dad's choice was cemented when he learned that breakfast was served all day. Lunch was delicious. The chowder was creamy with the right mix of clams and potatoes. The haddock was indeed quite lightly breaded allowing the flavor of the fish to come through. If I had to find some criticism I would say the tartar sauce was a bit heavy on the mayo and light on the pickles. On the way out, we actually found the "Karie's Kitchen" sign. We were looking for a new spot to try, and Karie's Kitchen was open on MLK day. What a nice experience! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast choices were excellent. The apple pie-stuffed French toast was very flavorful, and their corned-beef hash was great. They also sell prepared foods, so we left with a quart of chili, a quart of corn chowder, and some corn muffins that they include as a side. This is a very nice addition to the area! read more

What an awesome find while staying in Newport RI. We wanted some place outside of the touristy area of Newport where you didn't have to pay for parking. This place was about 20min away in a small quiet town of North Kingston. The service was so friendly, everyone was friendly and the food just amazing. We plan to go back before we head home, it's that good. The portions are more than enough and we didn't have to wait long. The lobster bene was so so good. My family enjoyed their meals as well. We got here just in time this morning, since it suddenly got busy with large parties. We sat at the counter, and were greeted immediately and served our choice beverages. The coffee here is very good. That's basically how I judge a breakfast spot. I ordered stuffed French toast with ricotta and lemon with blueberries. I don't remember the last time I saw blueberries that large. They were huge! All of them, not just a few to make it look good. Fresh whipped cream, just delicious. I ordered the full order and took some home. It was that large of an order, and filling. You don't even need syrup! My husband had eggs, sausage, and home fries. He said it was all delicious. This is a second location for Jiggers, the first being in East Greenwich. The look here is totally different, but the food is delicious at either restaurant. A ma and pop diner just on the side of the road- don't blink- you could miss it! Lots of parking, indoor and covered patio seating, you want to make sure you stop here for brunch. With an impressive breakfast menu, there are lots of options for all palates. Lunch has some options but it can use some improvements. They make salads but no side salads- total miss in my opinion! I ended up with the superfoods salad with chicken and it was delicious! Being someone who can't have so much carbs and sugars for health reasons, I was bummed when they wouldn't make a side salad. Womp womp... However, There's nothing better than a kind service team who works together to take care of their customers. The covered patio seating was very comfortable (hint: go early on a Sunday and post up at the bar if it's just you and your ride-or-die). Then prepare for a VERY filling breakfast! Although there was a longer than usual wait, kudos to the staff for providing complimentary mini muffins to everyone so we did t start eating our napkins! The star of the menu is the lobster benedict. Generous chunks of tender lobster meat, perfectly ripened avocado, plump and oozy eggs and did I mention the practical VAT of clarified butter..!? The service is decent, management is nice, drinks are boozy, food is basic- not too much to review, nothing really stands out and thats not a negative thing, its just facts. We like eating inside and staring at the pastries but the covered, screened porch area is also great when it's more crowded. The food tastes fresh and properly prepared. Greeted quickly even though it was very busy and we were seated at a table we requested that they were just cleaning in the covered patio. That was very considerate as some venues will not do that. The covered patio was lovely and the outside eating area was attractive as well. We were given a basket of 2 mini muffins which were phenomenal. Muffins homemade there are available for purchase and they do offer takeout as well. Since I am not a big breakfast eater, my husband and I shared a corned beef hash omelet which was thoroughly filled with corned beef. So happy we chose to share it as it was a huge portion. The two sides of our choice were baked beans and home fries, and we added an order of delectable sour dough toast. Everything was very tasty and warm when served. Our server, Molly, was so pleasant and excellent, and checked on us often as did other servers as they came by our table. I have been going to Jiggers in East Greenwich for years now. But that location is so small that I have been going back less and less. Now we go to the one in North Kingstown and it's amazing. Most recently we went for lunch and it was fantastic. I got a 1/2 BLT (with chipotle mayo) and cup of corn chowder. We grabbed some mini muffins on the way out and those were delicious! WOW, WOW, WOW!! I never knew about this place. My aunt brought me here after giving me a lift from the airport back to Newport. They do breakfast all day. We arrived at 1:45pm (they close at 2p), so we were mostly expecting to be told they weren't serving. However, the server (Mae-sp?) was more than delightful and accommodating and sat us right down. We sat in the cute covered patio, which was cutely decorated with an autumnal vibe and had nice ceiling heaters! She gave excellent suggestions. I had the corned beef hash benny and my aunt had the sweet potato and bean breakfast burrito. The food was outstanding. Mae, never once made us feel rushed. She asked if I wanted more iced coffee when I was near the end of my meal. She astutely saw I was almost done and put the rest of my ice coffee, with a refill in a to go cup (This was an excellent touch). The inside seating area and the bathrooms were very clean. I met the owner coming back from the restroom and she was delightful as well. I will make a point to come here from now on. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Side note: A gentleman came in at around 2:20 asking if they were still open. Another server greeted him and said unfortunately not-but she did go out of her way to let him know that perhaps he could get a soup or something not requiring cooking to go. Let me begin with the very warm welcoming greeting we received. A table was cleared and cleaned for us and a waitress quickly came to take our orders. They have breakfast all day and also delicious lunch offerings. This worked perfectly as one in our party definitely wanted a burger while the other two is us are always up for a good breakfast. Everything was freshly prepared, the burger was juicy but honestly the fries were the star of the show. Some of the best we've had. Crispy on the outside and pillowy soft inside. Perfection. I forgot to request chocolate chips to accompany the Belgian waffle but they generously brought some anyway. I had the apple pie stuffed French toast. So good.
