Made a reservation in advance asking if they'll accept 4 dogs 2 medium 2 small they said yes Upon arriving the manager accused our dogs of a stool that wasn't us - so I simply replied "we just arrived I don't know who's that is" How coincidental all of a sudden the host informs us that the restaurant cannot accommodate 4 dogs. Okay - that's fine. We said we'd put them in the car. As we arrive they proceed to say we canceled your reservation and now it's a 2 hour wait. We've dined at coast guard a plentiful of times and this was the first time we experienced this type of animosity from the general manager. (With our dogs as well). I understand it's peak summer, but to accuse me of stool and expect me to pick it up (amongst the many dogs already there) and then punish me off or a baseless accusation was the last thing I expected. read more

I had come to Coast Guard House once before for dinner years ago, but during chillier months. There seemed to be a wedding or an event going on since the valet lot was full and most street parking was taken. I remember there being a patio overlooking the ocean, giving incredible views while eating dinner. That part has not changed. We got a table partly shaded, partly sunny. To start, we ordered the Firefly Mule ($15.00) which had Velo Butterfly Vodka, Guava Puree, Lime Juice, Ginger Beer. The first sip was good, but it somehow got progressively worse. I will say the guava puree was delicious, I wish there was more of it. We shared 4 cocktail shrimp and they were a bit firmer/dense, so maybe slightly overcooked. We ordered a Lychee Martini ($15.00) which has Grey Goose Vodka, Lychee Juice, Lemon, Simple Syrup Joto 'The Blue One' Junmai Nigori Sake. The start was okay, but the ending was terrible, almost like sipping rubbing alcohol. In hindsight, we would've swapped grey goose for a better vodka. We did ask for more simple syrup to try to balance out the bitterness but there was no remedy. For our entrees, we had the Linguine & Clams ($29.00) with Native little neck clams, fresh herbs, garlic white wine butter sauce and the Sunset Farm Burger ($24.00) 1/2 local ground beef, 1/2 ground bacon, crispy onion strings, arugula, cheddar, garlic aioli & sunny side up farm egg, brioche bun. I did upgrade my fries to truffle your fries for +$3.00 and it was the best decision I made. The plates looked spectacular. The burger patty didn't look too impressive, but everything on the burger all together looked amazing. The egg was cooked to perfection, the bun was slightly grilled, the cheese was melted well, and the arugula looked fresh. I wish it did come with more crispy onions and more garlic aioli. I think tomato would've gone well too. I could actually taste the bacon in the patty, but I wish it were in the form of crispy strips instead for a saltier finish. The fries were crispy, packed with truffle oil and parmesan cheese, and crispy; no complaints. The linguine and clams was decent. I am not the biggest fan of clams but these tasted fresh. Awesome location right on the water. The view and location is definitely 5 stars however the food was not. I got the quinoa salad and added chicken (for $9) and only received 3 small slabs of blackened chicken. Food was tasty, just disappointed about the size given the price. The Caesar salad was delicious but only came with one broccolini that was cold. Drinks were great and refreshing. Came here on a weekend summer evening, and the wait was over an hour so recommend getting a reservation ahead of time. Try to get a reservation at the Patio if you can, seating is right next to the ocean. Servers were nice and worked hard to get us a walk in seating as soon as they could. Unfortunately the rain prevented us from sitting outside. The ocean waves lapping at the shore while we eat is part of the allure of this place. Inside was very noisy and it made conversation hard. We shared the calamari which was a combination of spirals and tentacles. Not the best or the worst I have had. I would say that about all the food. Rating: 4.3 Came to the place for lunch with family and friends. We reserved an outside tent for the lunch. It's a nice restaurant located right by the ocean in Narraganset. Complimentary valet parking available along with street parking. Once we got there we were directed to the outside tent seatings. Looks like they have a theme for each one and one we were at was winter themed. Inside was nice and cozy and was quite warm. Once we got seated we looked at the menu and placed order for some drinks and appetizers. We got some oysters and prime rib cheese egg rolls. They were both delicious. Oysters were fresh. I got a non alcoholic drink the country road which was fruity and refreshing. I ended up getting lobster mac and cheese. Lots of lobster meat and cheesy macaronis with bread crumb was tasty. Service was excellent and waiter was very attentive and came to check in multiple times. Overall it's a nice spot for nicer meal. Price is on the higher side but food was pretty good. Outside seating was $100 per group and for 3 hours so not too bad. Downside was that ventilation was poor so it was pretty hot inside and only way to cool down was to keep the door propped open but it was windy day so door kept banging and the next group was doing the same thing. I want to preface this by saying this is my first time coming to this place so being on the water was my kind of vibe. I sat at the bar waiting for my girlfriend. I didn't get the warm and fuzzies from the bartender. He kind of just threw the menu at me and walked away and then came back later and asked me what I would like to drink while I'm waiting. I found him to be a little rude/dismissive. I ordered a burger and fries because that's what I was craving and he made a snide comment on the fact that I had time to look at the menu and this is what I chose to order. Another great meal at CGH. You definitely can't beat the ambience and view. Great view of the ocean anywhere in the restaurant. The food is still good. For my entree I had the branzino, a specific of the day. The fishes cooked perfect and served as a fillet instead of a whole fish so no bones. Fish was moist and accompanied with potatoes and a sautéed cherry tomatoes. Dessert I had the pistachio crème brûlée, which was very good. I was a little hesitant about trying this place out based on mixed reviews... I'm glad I don't listen to the bad ones because I would have missed out on an amazing experience. We booked an igloo because I get social anxiety and the ambiance in there is so what you make of it and because I was there with my family, it was fun! our waiter, Nicholas, was by far the best waiter we have ever had! What tops this whole experience is that the food was actually delicious! Drinks and desserts were also really good! It's only a 15-20 minute drive from our house so that's a plus! I highly recommend you book an igloo (cold months) or ocean/outside seating bc the sound of the waves is so relaxing while enjoying good food and drinks! Called ahead of time to ask if it was ok to bring 4 dogs, 2 small 2 medium. They said it was ok, made a reservation then we got there and they said it would be a 20-30 minute wait. Someone had stepped on a dogs poop which was not ours because ours was next to it which I had picked up when asked to by the rude manager. Then when we got the notification for our table they told us management can no longer take our 4 dogs. Then we left for 5 minutes to let someone we know watch our dogs and went back with 1 dog, and they said it would be another hour wait. Food/Drinks: The food seemed pretty good. I had the salmon, but shortly after leaving I started getting really bad stomach cramps that lasted all night and even made me sick. My husband had the same dish and felt sick too, so it definitely seemed connected. We reached out to the restaurant and one manager was very helpful, but the other wasn't so much. They told us no one else had reported issues, and not much can be done. The drinks, on the other hand, were good. I only tried one, but I'd honestly come back just for the drinks and the views. Location: The location is beautiful, right on the water, and the themed bubbles are such a fun option for parties or special occasions. Definitely Instagram-worthy. This is the perfect spot to dress up, definitely not casual , and they also had valet parking which was a plus. Service: The service was also solid. Came to enjoy a meal with a group in one the nice igloos and it was so beautiful on a sunny day with picturesque vibes and decor. We got the winter theme and it was all white with the views of the ocean next to us. For drinks I got the expresso solar(the name was something like that) and it was tasty and not too bitter! My meal was very filling and savory with lobster topping and lobster filling in the raviolis. The appetizers we ordered were lobster theme, and I think anything lobster here was taste. The egg rolls weren't rolls, but very tasty and hot. The oysters were ok compared to the delicious lobster options. The sobert was simple and tasty, but the highlight for me was the entree. One thing to consider is maybe grab an igloo in the afternoon or evening . The igloos were very warm with heaters but the sun beating down on us and the igloo having a plastic cover really got us warm. We had to prop open the door to get some cold relief. The doors should have a mechanism to prop it open when needed instead of relying on two random chairs we grabbed from other outdoor tables. read more

It's sad to say that our first experience at this restaurant was one of the most unprofessional impressions we've ever experienced. Upon our 5:30 p.m. arrival, my wife and I were immediately seated in the far corner of the outdoor patio. From the beginning, the host's demeanor came across as cold and dismissive. When she told us to "enjoy," her tone made it clear she didn't mean what she said. When our waitress arrived, she wanted to explain what the daily specials were, but before she began, we politely asked if we could move to another section of the patio so we could sit in the sun. After speaking with the host, she returned with what I can only describe as a smart-ass attitude, saying, "Those tables are for people who actually have reservations." We completely understood if those tables were reserved, but there was absolutely no reason for the condescending attitude. Instead, we were moved to another corner table, and after the host decided to tell us "enjoy" with the same condescending tone. Once we sat down, I asked the waitress if she could explain the daily specials, but then she quickly replied, "now that we're at a different table, the other waitress/waiter will have to do that" since it wasn't her "zone". As we sat there, we couldn't help but notice what appeared to be a noticeable difference in how other guests were treated. The tables that gave off what I would describe as a more "upper class" appearance, well-dressed white guests who appeared more affluent, seemed to receive a warmer welcome and far more attentive service. Whether that was intentional or not, we couldn't shake the feeling that we were viewed differently. I'm white myself, but perhaps my tattoos or the fact that I was dining with my Brazilian wife caused us to be perceived differently. I honestly don't know. What I do know is that we left feeling like we didn't fit the restaurant's idea of its preferred clientele. For example, our waitress never offered us the option of tap or bottled water, while nearby "upper class" tables were given that choice. Around 6:10 p.m., we ordered appetizers, which took roughly 20 minutes to arrive, while tables seated after us were already receiving their food. We then placed our entrée orders and waited... and waited... and waited. In addition, we found a hair in the salad that we ordered, and when we brought it up to the waitress, her only answer was "that's impossible, everyone in the kitchen wears hairnets... At approximately 6:40 p.m., the hostess came to our table and explained there had been a "mix-up" because we had switched tables, causing our entrée order to be delayed. That explanation made very little sense. How does simply switching tables result in an order being delayed by that much? It pointed to a serious lack of communication between the front of the house and the kitchen. By approximately 6:50 p.m., I believe a manager came to our table and asked if there was anything he could do. At that point, I bluntly asked for the check because waiting well over an hour for our food was simply unacceptable. Ironically, our entrées finally arrived around 7:00 p.m., but by then we had completely lost our appetite. I sent the food back and again requested the check. Even then, it still took another 10 minutes to receive it. To the hostess's credit, she apologized, and I told her I appreciated the apology. However, I also explained that this restaurant clearly has a major communication problem. More importantly, the dismissive attitude we experienced from the moment we walked in set the tone for the entire evening and left us feeling unwelcome. In a nutshell: We waited an hour and a half for our food we never received, we were mistreated, felt discriminated, and there were still PLENTY of open tables in the patio facing the sun. This was our first visit to Narragansett, and unfortunately it was not the welcome we expected. I didn't even bother asking if the restaurant offered a military discount because, by that point, I already felt like we didn't belong. We will NEVER return. read more

This restaurant is located in the heart of the Narragansett Beach district. For that reason, parking will be a challenge, though the restaurant has its own valet-only lot. This lot though can become full and then you'll have no choice other than find a street spot, or drive around until space in the lot becomes available. There's both indoor and outdoor seating that offer a view of the beach and Narraganset Bay. For the dinner we had here, we ate indoors due to it being a somewhat overcast and bleak early August evening. Consequently, many patrons chose indoor seating, so the restaurant was crowded and noisy. We ordered cocktails, appetizers, and mains, though we skipped desserts. Of particular enjoyment was the jumbo shrimp cocktail, served with the shells on, appetizer. Another special appetizer was the lobster tamale, which was loaded with lobster, making it an extra special bang for the buck. The lobster bisque was also top notch. The favorite main was the easy (out of the shell for an extra $2) whole lobster. The linguine with clams though was also a big hit. While all the food and drinks were excellent, the service was spotty. That was our only real disappointment. For tourists, this is a destination-type restaurant. We had reservations through open table for a late lunch. Which honestly was a great choice. The evening gets very crowded with beach goers who are out for their evening meals. So I'm sure it can get loud and maybe crowded inside. Valet parking was a perfect service for the location. Those valet Parker's worked hard. They hustled even ran to get cars. If valet is available it's worth it! We were seated immediately on an area where we could see out the windows. Our waiter was fantastic. Ricardio V. Was amazing. He was attentive, held great conversation, and knew the menu and dosage pretty well. If he did not know something he made sure to find out. He also provided his options when asked for certain dishes or help to choose one or the other. Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail: jumbo is right. Fresh, and the cocktail sauce was divine. Lobster Ravioli: the pasta was a bit too thick for my liking. But, overall this is a great dish with fantastic flavors. The sauce was great. Lobster Tamale: FANTASTIC! It was piping hot when it arrived. This was my favorite dish of my meal. There were so many pieces of large lobster. The sauce complimented this dish very well. We were trying to plan a dinner gathering while we have family in from out of town. We called in advance but were told this establishment could not accommodate reservations for parties over 13 but to come at 8:30 and we could be seated. Not a problem and our entire party was a bit early so we grabbed drinks at the bar while we waited. We have one young one with us (under 2) who was getting a bit cranky so we asked to order fries at the bar to keep her occupied while we waited. The bartender scoffed at the request and we were told since she's under 21 we can't order anything from the bar. French fries for a baby.. and they had to ask the manager. We ended up ordering the fries and when taking them away from the bar area to avoid any further conflict we took them to just outside the front door/waiting area when the manager came running accusing us of stealing flatware and plates. Mind you we are still waiting for our large party to even be seated at this point and we're only trying to feed a few fries to a hungry and tired toddler. As I write this we have just been seated so I'll leave the remainder of the review for the actual food and wait service.
