It's sad to say that our first experience at this restaurant was one of the most unprofessional impressions we've ever experienced. Upon our 5:30 p.m. arrival, my wife and I were immediately seated in the far corner of the outdoor patio. From the beginning, the host's demeanor came across as cold and dismissive. When she told us to "enjoy," her tone made it clear she didn't mean what she said. When our waitress arrived, she wanted to explain what the daily specials were, but before she began, we politely asked if we could move to another section of the patio so we could sit in the sun. After speaking with the host, she returned with what I can only describe as a smart-ass attitude, saying, "Those tables are for people who actually have reservations." We completely understood if those tables were reserved, but there was absolutely no reason for the condescending attitude. Instead, we were moved to another corner table, and after the host decided to tell us "enjoy" with the same condescending tone. Once we sat down, I asked the waitress if she could explain the daily specials, but then she quickly replied, "now that we're at a different table, the other waitress/waiter will have to do that" since it wasn't her "zone". As we sat there, we couldn't help but notice what appeared to be a noticeable difference in how other guests were treated. The tables that gave off what I would describe as a more "upper class" appearance, well-dressed white guests who appeared more affluent, seemed to receive a warmer welcome and far more attentive service. Whether that was intentional or not, we couldn't shake the feeling that we were viewed differently. I'm white myself, but perhaps my tattoos or the fact that I was dining with my Brazilian wife caused us to be perceived differently. I honestly don't know. What I do know is that we left feeling like we didn't fit the restaurant's idea of its preferred clientele. For example, our waitress never offered us the option of tap or bottled water, while nearby "upper class" tables were given that choice. Around 6:10 p.m., we ordered appetizers, which took roughly 20 minutes to arrive, while tables seated after us were already receiving their food. We then placed our entrée orders and waited... and waited... and waited. In addition, we found a hair in the salad that we ordered, and when we brought it up to the waitress, her only answer was "that's impossible, everyone in the kitchen wears hairnets... At approximately 6:40 p.m., the hostess came to our table and explained there had been a "mix-up" because we had switched tables, causing our entrée order to be delayed. That explanation made very little sense. How does simply switching tables result in an order being delayed by that much? It pointed to a serious lack of communication between the front of the house and the kitchen. By approximately 6:50 p.m., I believe a manager came to our table and asked if there was anything he could do. At that point, I bluntly asked for the check because waiting well over an hour for our food was simply unacceptable. Ironically, our entrées finally arrived around 7:00 p.m., but by then we had completely lost our appetite. I sent the food back and again requested the check. Even then, it still took another 10 minutes to receive it. To the hostess's credit, she apologized, and I told her I appreciated the apology. However, I also explained that this restaurant clearly has a major communication problem. More importantly, the dismissive attitude we experienced from the moment we walked in set the tone for the entire evening and left us feeling unwelcome. In a nutshell: We waited an hour and a half for our food we never received, we were mistreated, felt discriminated, and there were still PLENTY of open tables in the patio facing the sun. This was our first visit to Narragansett, and unfortunately it was not the welcome we expected. I didn't even bother asking if the restaurant offered a military discount because, by that point, I already felt like we didn't belong. We will NEVER return. read more

Lobster tamale was unique--filled with lobster. Great deal--$21. Decent bottle of merlot--$30. Came here on a weekend summer evening, and the wait was over an hour so recommend getting a reservation ahead of time. Try to get a reservation at the Patio if you can, seating is right next to the ocean. Servers were nice and worked hard to get us a walk in seating as soon as they could. We sat at the top bar upstairs, which also has a great view. I feel like it's the restaurant with the best views in Narragansett. Unfortunately the rain prevented us from sitting outside. The ocean waves lapping at the shore while we eat is part of the allure of this place. Inside was very noisy and it made conversation hard. We shared the calamari which was a combination of spirals and tentacles. Not the best or the worst I have had. I would say that about all the food. Another great meal at CGH. You definitely can't beat the ambience and view. Great view of the ocean anywhere in the restaurant. The food is still good. For my entree I had the branzino, a specific of the day. The fishes cooked perfect and served as a fillet instead of a whole fish so no bones. Fish was moist and accompanied with potatoes and a sautéed cherry tomatoes. Dessert I had the pistachio crème brûlée, which was very good. I didn't get the warm and fuzzies from the bartender. He kind of just threw the menu at me and walked away and then came back later and asked me what I would like to drink while I'm waiting. Complimentary valet parking available along with street parking. Once we got there we were directed to the outside tent seatings. Once we got seated we looked at the menu and placed order for some drinks and appetizers. We got some oysters and prime rib cheese egg rolls. They were both delicious. Oysters were fresh. I got a non alcoholic drink the country road which was fruity and refreshing. I ended up getting lobster mac and cheese. Lots of lobster meat and cheesy macaronis with bread crumb was tasty. Service was excellent and waiter was very attentive and came to check in multiple times. Overall it's a nice spot for nicer meal. Price is on the higher side but food was pretty good. Outside seating was $100 per group and for 3 hours so not too bad. Downside was that ventilation was poor so it was pretty hot inside and only way to cool down was to keep the door propped open but it was windy day so door kept banging and the next group was doing the same thing. I was a little hesitant about trying this place out based on mixed reviews... I'm glad I don't listen to the bad ones because I would have missed out on an amazing experience. We booked an igloo because I get social anxiety and the ambiance in there is so what you make of it and because I was there with my family, it was fun! our waiter, Nicholas, was by far the best waiter we have ever had! What tops this whole experience is that the food was actually delicious! Drinks and desserts were also really good! It's only a 15-20 minute drive from our house so that's a plus! I highly recommend you book an igloo (cold months) or ocean/outside seating bc the sound of the waves is so relaxing while enjoying good food and drinks! Came to enjoy a meal with a group in one the nice igloos and it was so beautiful on a sunny day with picturesque vibes and decor. We got the winter theme and it was all white with the views of the ocean next to us. For drinks I got the expresso solar(the name was something like that) and it was tasty and not too bitter! My meal was very filling and savory with lobster topping and lobster filling in the raviolis. The appetizers we ordered were lobster theme, and I think anything lobster here was taste. The egg rolls weren't rolls, but very tasty and hot. The oysters were ok compared to the delicious lobster options. The sobert was simple and tasty, but the highlight for me was the entree. One thing to consider is maybe grab an igloo in the afternoon or evening . The igloos were very warm with heaters but the sun beating down on us and the igloo having a plastic cover really got us warm. We had to prop open the door to get some cold relief. The doors should have a mechanism to prop it open when needed instead of relying on two random chairs we grabbed from other outdoor tables. read more

The meal won't be cheap, but it will be super good! We went for a girls night and everyone loved their dinner. My best friend has a gluten allergy and she was blown away by their mac n cheese. They had a bunch of options for her to pick from which was a real nice plus. Wine was good. They had lots of cocktails and mocktails in addition to their wine list. The bread was amazing too! Food/Drinks: The food seemed pretty good. I had the salmon, but shortly after leaving I started getting really bad stomach cramps that lasted all night and even made me sick. They told us no one else had reported issues, and not much can be done. The drinks, on the other hand, were good. I only tried one, but I'd honestly come back just for the drinks and the views. This is the perfect spot to dress up, definitely not casual , and they also had valet parking which was a plus. Service: The service was also solid. This restaurant is located in the heart of the Narragansett Beach district. For that reason, parking will be a challenge, though the restaurant has its own valet-only lot. This lot though can become full and then you'll have no choice other than find a street spot, or drive around until space in the lot becomes available. There's both indoor and outdoor seating that offer a view of the beach and Narraganset Bay. For the dinner we had here, we ate indoors due to it being a somewhat overcast and bleak early August evening. Consequently, many patrons chose indoor seating, so the restaurant was crowded and noisy. We ordered cocktails, appetizers, and mains, though we skipped desserts. Of particular enjoyment was the jumbo shrimp cocktail, served with the shells on, appetizer. Another special appetizer was the lobster tamale, which was loaded with lobster, making it an extra special bang for the buck. The lobster bisque was also top notch. The favorite main was the easy (out of the shell for an extra $2) whole lobster. The linguine with clams though was also a big hit. While all the food and drinks were excellent, the service was spotty. That was our only real disappointment. For tourists, this is a destination-type restaurant. We had reservations through open table for a late lunch. Which honestly was a great choice. The evening gets very crowded with beach goers who are out for their evening meals. So I'm sure it can get loud and maybe crowded inside. Valet parking was a perfect service for the location. Those valet Parker's worked hard. They hustled even ran to get cars. If valet is available it's worth it! We were seated immediately on an area where we could see out the windows. Our waiter was fantastic. Ricardio V. Was amazing. He was attentive, held great conversation, and knew the menu and dosage pretty well. If he did not know something he made sure to find out. He also provided his options when asked for certain dishes or help to choose one or the other. Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail: jumbo is right. Fresh, and the cocktail sauce was divine. Lobster Ravioli: the pasta was a bit too thick for my liking. But, overall this is a great dish with fantastic flavors. The sauce was great. Lobster Tamale: FANTASTIC! It was piping hot when it arrived. This was my favorite dish of my meal. There were so many pieces of large lobster. The sauce complimented this dish very well. Dining at the CG has been on our summer in RI agenda for at least a decade. Last year, we had an unpleasant experience, when my wife complained to the restaurant manager about the previously excellent seafood pasta. No: "I'm terribly sorry, Madam. Can I suggest another dish that you might enjoy?" Instead, he grumpily grabbed our plates which we had barely touched, and in what seemed seconds, returned with our bill (minus the charge for the pasta). We got the message -- if you don't like it, you can leave. (BTW, seafood pasta is no longer on the menu. Nor is the risotto, which friends had ordered and declared excellent. Does this indicate an inexorable CG slide toward bar food?) This year, in the grip of CG nostalgia, we decided to put that incident behind us and return. Alas, our recent visit simply confirmed last year's impression about evolving culinary standards at CG. We sent the calamari back, because several of the pieces were not even cooked. The broccoli in the broccoli caesar would have challenged a bovine digestive system. The vongole were copious but tasteless. CG has an excellent pastry chef. But the pastry choice depleted, only ice cream or sorbet were on offer. The table behind us was so boisterous that you suspected they were rehearsing for a scene in "Mean Girls" -- not CG's fault, but does it indicate a top deck "vibe"? In sum: attentive staff, dreamy views, industrial cuisine, potentially noisy neighbors. We knew better than to complain this year -- just paid up and fled. And won't be returning anytime soon. read more

This is such a great spot especially for seafood. Living in Narragansett for 4 years this was always my top choice for any special occasion and the seafood here is unreal. My favorite thing we've ever ordered here is this seafood platter with a little bit of everything. The calamari, lobster bisque, and lobster ravioli are also favorites! The inside is definitely more of an upscale vibe but still comfortable with such a pretty view of the water. We just pretended we were in Europe and taking things slow. Portions are huge. My fish special was humongous. I felt bad leaving half the fish on the plate but it was too much. The food itself was good. Not special or memorable. You are paying for the view...and the truth is there might be better food at another spot with a similar view.
