This is a high four star review - HIGH. ALMOST there to 5! Fatty salmon and scallion roll all day long. Delicious and buttery and so fresh. Huge pieces of fish and the nicely wrapped roll. We also got the salmon roll, tuna roll, spicy yellowtail roll, gyoza, and the Hamachi Kama. Salmon and tuna rolls were plump pieces of fish and nicely wrapped. I love that there was plenty of fish in them instead of primarily rice. Spicy yellowtail roll was also very fresh and delicious. Nice and simple but fresh and tender. Gyoza were deep fried, but I wish they were more traditionally cooked which is pan fried - the softness of the dumpling and crunchy bottom is what I love about gyoza, but when deep fried it is all crunch and not as tender. The Hamachi Kama was the star. The moment it hit the table with the bowl of rice, it was game over. I was gnawing on the fin just to get some more of that tender fish. I love it when it is seasoned simply with sauce on the side. Perfectly seasoned and delicious - the fatty parts are my favorite. It also came with rice which my kiddo loved. I also enjoy that they put all the sushi on the platter a with garnish and even a color changing light! Little things like this presentation really make a difference, and it was great! The service was lovely. The gentleman at the front was so kind and appreciative. Each staff member we met was kind and welcoming. I would love to see a few more fresh fish rolls, but all together, we would definitely come back to Bluefin any day of the week. Tried the Black Ramen here twice. It's basically tankatsu ramen with black garlic. Really lovely. I've been spoiled on Micheline-starred tonkatsu for years in Orange County. But this was really nice. I preferred the second visit when I upgraded to thick noodles. Ramen means noodle. So I tend to avoid the thinner version. That's kinda like "ramen light," lol. They offered a few sake and beer options, too. There's very little service and the ambiance is just okay. Order electonically at the kiosk, pay in advance, and a server will bring it to you. That alone should have taken another star off. But I suppose that is very Japanese, so I exercised some grace today. Plus, I forgot to take pictures so I figure I owe them ;-P read more

The concept of order-at-the-screen sushi is probably what I'm struggling with...but knowing that's the concept, I'd say they did a good job overall. It's not the best sushi or the greatest ambiance...but it satisfied our sushi craving for the time being. It seemed fresh and had nice presentation. The staff who brought it out were nice. The hot sake machine was broken (or something like that), so we opted for cold sake which was average (but again quenched that thirst for the time being). There are several inside table options, or there are tables outside that share space with Five Guys and some other shops in the little strip center. Will I return? First let's talk about the ease of ordering. They have TVs with the menu displayed and self service tablets for ordering. This process made it super easy to browse the menu and make selections. The ramen itself was fantastic. I love spicy ramen and the spicy chicken bowl was seasoned fantastically. They have plenty of seating and table selections. There aren't many great sushi options in southeast Austin, and those that are available often fall short. As a sushi lover, I'm always on the lookout for new spots. I've been to the Bluefin Sushi in Sunset Valley, so when I heard they were opening a location in Kyle, I had to check it out. The Bluefin Sushi in Kyle is significantly different from its counterpart in Sunset Valley, except for the food. Instead of traditional table service, this location uses electronic counter service. Upon arrival, you place your order on electronic screens, receive a number, and wait for your food to be delivered. Plates and cups are available at the beverage station, and you'll need to request soy sauce from the counter. While the sushi itself is pretty solid and deserving of a 4-star rating, the poor service and dirty tables--along with unpleasant odors in some areas--drag the overall experience down to a 3-star rating. read more

When they first opened, I tried this place and it was truly a five star experience. I was excited to have a sushi place close by. I have tried their location in Austin and it was amazing and I had the same expectations for this location. However, since my initial visit, I have continued to be disappointed. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong thing. I have ordered various sushi's that they offer and while the presentation is beautiful, the quality of the fish and the flavors have been average and at times the fish did not taste fresh. I was looking for a new sushi spot and thought I'd try out this one in Kyle. Overall the experience was slightly underwhelming. You order from a screen at the front before you sit down. I like this approach since there is a large menu in the wall to look at and decide. Great spot for indecisive people who like to take their time! The screen also allows me to look at picture of most of the items, which I love. I did not love that it asked for a tip when I placed the order myself and would not be receiving any service besides the food being delivered. Both sushi rolls were good but not great. The creaminess of the cream cheese with the shrimp and crab in the Palm valley roll was nice and comforting. The fried rice had a nice variety of vegetables: mushrooms, green beans, bean sprouts, carrots, corn, and onion. However, the chicken was pretty overcooked and the rice lacked flavor/could have used for salt or seasoning. The spicy edamame was delicious! My favorite part of the meal! It had a lot of red pepper flakes and pieces of garlic! Silverware, to go boxes, water cups, etc were all placed on a table in the dining area for convenient, self-serve access. Ordering process involved using a computer screen that was very extensive. It took my group of 4 10-15 minutes to complete the order. I wanted a poke bowl but could not find it on the menu, even though it was in the web page. When paying, a tip was requested with suggestions in the 18-20% range for what looked like self serve counter service. They actually did bring the food to the table, serially, for each person, so i was well into my meal before my son was served. I moved to Kyle in June 2021 and I've always been disappointed with the culinary scene ever since I started exploring the town. Oh sure, there are one off restaurants trying their hands at many different styles but there are very few committed to a region of food and trying their hardest to provide the best of a one specific cuisine. So, my fellow sushi and ramen connoisseurs, I am proud to proclaim we no longer need to drive far distances in lands unknown to get quality Japanese food (although the Japanese Steakhouse still eludes us)! Located right in front of Target off of I-35 and Evans Dr in an extremely safe part of town, Bluefin is now open and ready to serve the community with a delightful Japanese inspired menu. After a week or so I could no longer resist the calling of sushi and ramen especially when it's right down the street from me. So, I checked out their online menu and decided I would order a lot on a Saturday and see if they're worthy of my repeat business and the short answer is a resounding yes. The outside is nothing fancy, rather they go straight for enticing the stomach with their sign "Bluefin Sushi & Ramen," 'nuff said. Upon entering the left has computerized the ordering experience. Before I forget, the website still needs work as 90% of the menu isn't available so until that's fixed, you'll have to either call or walk-in. The menu is easy to decipher with the vast majority of their items having pictures. Just click on what you like, adding it to the cart with customizable options and check out, entering in the number provided on the little plaque next to the computer, then take a seat. The restaurant is sterile and clean, since it just opened up. Hardwood floors, basic cushioned chairs and wooded tables with a huge Japanese inspired mural over the majority of the seating area. I would like the vibe kicked up a notch with more culture but it doesn't distract from the experience. I did order my food to go as I wanted to watch a movie at home so I tried to wait until I got home to eat. While I was hoping to snag some Shrimp Tempura for the ride home it wasn't available so the Pork Kushi had to suffice until the grand feast could begin. The pork was decent as it was a slight bit dry but did have a nice layer of fat and I confess the smokiness from the grill really pleased my palate then the sweet sauce rounded it out. If they fix the moisture of the pork, I'll be an addict. I'll address the ramen now and save the sushi for the next paragraph. I'll start with the worst part first, I wish I could find fresh noodles not prefixed or packaged noodles as a staple of restaurants, as it just hits the mouth different. Now it's time to focus on the high points of the Oyasumi Ramen dish. The liquid is a wonderful amalgamation of flavors with a decadent pork broth, thin cut nori for the seafood flavor, green onions to give it a sharpness, kikurage (rehydrated wood ear mushrooms) providing earthiness an egg (ajitama) and corn. I got mine with pork which again was as stated above but worked well in the dish. Overall, an outstanding dish but if it had fresh noodles, I would be called Norm as it would be my Cheers (a reference to an 80s sitcom) b/c I would be there all the time. The first roll that hit my mouth was the Bluefin Sunset Valley roll. Everyone knows what a California roll is but this is topped with among other things baked crawfish, masago, sweet soy and white mushrooms. Get this roll, just do it. The next roll is what I call my quality inspection roll, a rainbow roll. Again, a California roll topped with tuna, salmon, avocado, and generally "other" (type of fish, shrimp, etc; house choice). Basically, this roll will tell you right away the quality of the fish and I'm here to tell you, it was spot on. Fresh, flavorful, firm yet delicate and cool all while sitting on warm rice. That's part of sushi is the contract of texture and temps. Finally, the spider roll was pretty good however there wasn't much crab to mention. I'm from Charleston and we had "fiddler crabs" so maybe that was what I got. That said it was executed perfectly I just was expecting more? Overall my experience was a smashing success at Bluefin. While they have cornered the sushi and ramen market here in Kyle they aren't holding back offering a safe and clean dining experience, fresh and flavorful ingredients and a delightful staff; although I didn't have much interaction with them. That said they need to tighten up some items such as fixing the menu on the website and offering things like a shrimp tempura app (and I'm going to ask them to consider lobster tempura rolls to go over the top). I'm elated to have them be part of the community and I'll be back very soon b/c they have shown to me they deserve my patronage. Two Chop Stix up! read more

I am unsure why all these reviews are bad but the food was great. The sushi tasted great, the miso soup, the avocado bomb, pork belly and the calamari was good!! The service was quick and they were very nice, when you walk in they have 3 different digital computers to place your order quickly and to browse the menu. The indoor was great, the music they played wasn't too loud and they had plenty of tables and a set up to get your own to go boxes. We liked it a lot and will definitely be coming back. read more

Disappointed. The location in Lakeway has the freshest fish and is incredible pricing as well (which is what I had hoped for the Kyle location). The Kyle location has "fishy" fish and greasy food. My stomach was upset afterwards and I could barely stomach the food. I was very disappointed in the quality and expensive price. If you want quality sashimi or authentic Japanese food go to Lakeway Bluefin. The Kyle one is very "fast food" and unappetizing. read more

The employee with the circle rim handling the to go orders/ running food was very rude! I had to wait 45 min from the time I placed my order to get it after being snapped at twice that they were still working on it and to go sit down even though I didn't say anything to her and I was just standing off to the side. Also customers who arrived/ordered after I arrived to pickup my order got their food before me. Finally a sushi and ramen spot in Kyle! Although there have been places in Kyle with sushi such as Koy, Pho Thaison, and Spoon & Fork...never a place that is specific for Japanese dishes. The ambiance is nice and modern. As you enter there are two ways to order. You can hop to the kiosk on the left to order yourself. If you do this remember to grab a metal plate # as that will be your number for the runner to deliver your food. Once you order at the kiosk go ahead and find a seat to wait for your food. Super easy! The other method of ordering is through the restaurant staff, they will be at the front of the counter. The fountain drinks are self serve on the right side of the restaurant. That's also where you will find your soy sauce, soy sauce containers, and metal utensils if you need it. I would recommend if the restaurant can clear that area and remove the tables next to it. It becomes a very narrow area once you have people grabbing drinks and trying to stand up from their tables. I spilled my drink a bit trying to make sure I didn't bump into another patron. The prices vary for sushi and sushi rolls. The price is moderate and not on the lower side of sushi prices. I highly recommend getting the bento boxes! They are the best bang for your buck. The poke is huge! Although it reminded me more of a sushi tower than a poke bowl. The veggie tempura was good! And really a great addition to the bento box you get. We will definitely be back here! I did rate it as a 4 out of 5 only because of the price to value, the narrow fountain drink area, and just the new chaos of people trying to order. A big sign that says order here by the kiosk area would be a good addition as well as a big sign where the fountain drink station as well as soy sauce etc. I wish it was out in the front and more visible. Food wasn't bad. We got a couple of sushi rolls and nigiri (all of this tasted good), some apps (edamame, gyozas, takoyaki), some ramen, and a chicken teriyaki. The $2 add on to get an egg in your ramen comes with only half an egg. The takoyaki was ice cold in the middle. They brought a replacement 10-15 minutes later. It was okay. Very little octopus and kind of mushy on the inside. It took about 35 minutes to get our sushi. My husband had to go and ask about it and I don't think they were working on it until after he did. The California roll was for our 5-year-old so we had to all pull from our food to try and feed her something while she waited. Service is pretty mediocre. This was our second chance for this location from a precious mediocre experience, so we will not be returning. read more
