I love this place! I have been seeing Jessica at Bluemercury Clarendon for a few years now as my esthetician and she's amazing. I get a Brazilian normally and each time it is consistently comfortable and relaxing. She has awesome hospitality and will make you feel at ease and gets things done quickly. Sometimes I get a facial too and those are always really well done and professional. I highly recommend her even over other popular waxing spots in Arlington like European Wax Center. Bluemercury uses superior quality wax and you will feel the difference. Jessica is also really fun to talk to. Once I recommend her to my friends and coworkers they never look back- seriously! The front of the house staff is also polite when you call to schedule. I buy skin care products and they are always knowledgeable and have solid suggestions. I agree with all the one star reviews I wish there was a review that's less than one star. Today is March 6 at noon 2025. and the woman in there, was not helpful at all. I asked for Laura Mercier Cream that blue mercury used to carry all the time, that's where I always bought it, and the woman was just so "nope yep nope yep". She asked if she could help me find something else and I said would you have anything that's similar to that scent of almond and coconut? she replies "nope" and that was the extent of her interaction with me, horrible Blue mercury rep. I came here looking for help choosing a color for an eyeshadow stick and couldn't have found a more unfriendly atmosphere. The one staffer working made it clear he had no suggestions and colors were individual choices etc. - no tips or ideas on shades that might work for me, or brands, or feedback when I tried a tester, which he only offered after I said I'd look on my own. I can go to Sephora for that kind of service, so I did. Very unwelcoming and a bit dismissive. I was shown a drawer of products and then it was shut abruptly. I'm amazed that as companies are going out of business you would think people would be more helpful and thoughtful. There was no other customers in the store i would think since they didn't have what I purchased she could have pointed me online or to another store. ZERO customer service. I purchase all my skin products on a regular basis from this store. On average, I spend about $200 every 6-8 weeks. Maybe that's not enough but I'm always blown away by the lack of attention to the customer at this store. There is no interest in customer service. It's what do you want, get your purchase and go. It's shocking to me considering price points. The only reason I continue to patronize this location is due to the convenience as it's in my neighborhood at a walkable distance. I often wonder if there corporate headquarters are aware but I guess it doesn't matter much because of the location, I'm certain they continue to financially perform. read more

One star for the worst service. I'm in my early 50's and I suppose I look close enough to it, though I do invest a lot in my skin and well-being. On the day I visited this store, I had just had a facial - I didn't have on a stitch of makeup, and I wasn't dressed in my sharpest. Whether that's the reason for the cold shoulder I got or not, I'll never know, because I will never go back. Not one of the employees said a single word to me, but shortly after I came in, they greeted another lady most enthusiastically. I walked around with a couple of items that I intended to buy, but no one ever said ANYTHING. Not "i'll be with you in a moment," not "can i help you find something," absolutely nothing. Is a few minutes of focus and dedicated attention too much to ask? Given its location in a much more upscale part of town, I was hoping that this location would be a preferred alternative to the trainwreck that is the Union Station store, but sadly this one is just as bad. In fact, I think I even recognize one of the cashiers here from the Union Station store. :/ I came in to pick up a bottle of facial cleanser and decided to browse around. I was offered assistance several times, and when I finally accepted it, I could barely keep the sale associate's attention for more than a few seconds. All of the sales associates were gathered around the register area sharing a bag of candy and seemed to be more interested in satiating their collective sweet tooth than helping me find what I needed. I asked for help finding a treatment for dark undereye circles and wrinkles that is effective for African American skin. I specifically asked for help from one particular sales associate because she is also African American, and I was hoping she could personally recommend products targeted towards our specific skin type. Instead she replied, " *We* don't have those problems." I told her that, "Clearly we do" as I showed her the slight shadows forming underneath my eyes (which I'm trying to get under control now before they get worse). Her response was "Well you just need some more sleep," as she walked back to the register area to rejoin her colleagues and help herself to more candy. As much as I appreciated the diagnosis from this self-appointed "doctor", what I really wanted was a product recommendation. She passed me off to another colleague (who was not a woman of color) who gave me a brief spiel about a Trish McEvoy serum that I've heard about. However, unlike my experience at other Bluemercury locations, she did not offer me a sample (although the other sales associate did offer it to me at the register). She also claimed to use the product herself, but since she had on a ton of makeup under her eyes (which was clearly visible, as it was caked in the creases and wrinkles under her eyes), that did nothing to persuade me. Time to checkout. I wanted to use the remaining funds I had on a gift card to pay for my purchase, and pay the balance with my credit card. However, I was unsure of the balance on the gift card. I didn't think it would be a problem, but the cashier told me, "Our system doesn't work like that". She said that I had to tell her the specific amount that was on the card in order to use it. I've never heard anything like that before, and I've definitely not had that experience in the other stores I've used the card in. Frustrated with my experience in this store, I just gave her my credit card to complete my transaction so that I could be on my way. As she rang me up, she continued her conversation with her colleagues and did not even thank me for coming in, or provide me with the new product samples that customers usually receive with each purchase. I thought that the level of unprofessionalism I've previously encountered at Bluemercury was isolated just to one store location. Unfortunately, the problem seems to be more pervasive than I thought. This was my first and last trip to this store. In fact, I think I might just start ordering my cleanser online from now on to save myself the hassle. read more

I came here looking for a new concealer. The makeup selection is very limited - it's definitely no Sephora, and I'm kind of surprised I even found what I was looking for. Think of this as more of a cosmetics "boutique" than anything else. Also realize that they only carry high end brands, so expect to spend at least $30 on any one item. The woman who greeted me at the door seemed absolutely miserable and scowled at me intensely, which was consistent with some of the poor reviews on here regarding service. The other lady who actually helped me was moderately friendly, though. At the very least, she tried. Not stellar, not awful. Bluemercury never ceases to amaze me, mainly due to the fact that their staff is all over the place. My favorite is the one in Farragut; staff is always friendly and never snobby. The day I got a friendly person in Dupont, I nearly died. And don't even get me started on Old Town. Staff at this location is sometimes friendly; sometimes not. As someone who works in cosmetics, I will never understand the bougie mentality. I don't even work on commission, and I'm always friendly. But anyway, this store is neatly laid out and more spacious than other locations. As usual, I like their core lines and I feel like this location is out-of-stock less often than others. I'll definitely be visiting when I know what I need; if I want great service, I'll go back to Farragut. read more

I noticed this location as I casually strolled Arlington, and remembered a tinted moisturizer that a YouTuber raved about. Happy that I went inside to check it out. The associate that helped me (Torry) was amaze balls. He was very knowledgeable about all of the products and you could tell that he loved his craft of artistry. It also didn't hurt that he had beautiful black-don't-crack chocolate smooth skin. Yes, I do pay attention to makeup artists' skin and technique that they use. Although I didn't make a purchase I'd definitely go back to this location because I know that Torry won't steer me wrong. He picked me out the perfect shade of Nars tinted moisturizer and blush. I want to like this store however every time I am in there with my disclaimer upfront that I need one thing and want to spend x amount of dollars the women try to convince me that what I need is 4x what I want. Now I understand the need to sell, commission, etc. but I think a better strategy is connecting with your customers and listening. I needed foundation and told the woman that I am a busy working mom and prefer an easy regime with a natural look (also not a thing at this store-all the women are loaded up with makeup). She sold me on a concealer that has the worst dropper/dispenser that clearly is not a good idea for a mom who often had two kiddos at her feet while getting ready for work. Maybe Sephora will be my next stop after all. read more

Long review: I got a facial *and* did some shopping. BLUF: Facial was excellent -- my skin is still smooth and bright and soft two days later, and the shopping was helpful and non-pushy. I don't get facials regularly but when I feel like it's time to get one I come to this BlueMercury. They've always been good enough for me to come back but this last time was excellent. My esthetician (Jessica) explained what she was going to do based on the facial I selected (FWIW, it was the BlueMercury 20th Birthday one) and she offered two options to add on if I wanted. I went for the more expensive option of microdermabrasion. In the past, whenever I came in for a facial I'd been told microdermabrasion could benefit me but I never got it since it's expensive. This time I finally caved and got the microdermabrasion treatment and while it doubled the cost of my facial it was worth it. My skin feels so soft and smooth! My chin is the first area to break out when I'm stressed and in addition to little pimples, I could feel ones just waiting to pop up and embarrass me haha The microdermabrasion feels kind of like that machine at Sephora where they suck out all the gunk in your pores. The difference here is that there's an exfoliating feel, so while it's still sucking stuff out of your skin it's also got some sort of grit to smooth your skin at the same time. The Sephora machine also has little metal balls that roll over your skin, the machine at bluemercury doesn't, it's just a gritty-feeling vacuum that really pulls out whatever it can. The whole experience was relaxing and worth it so I need to find a way to make it part of a seasonal routine. The store experience was just as lovely. I got there early so I spent time wandering around before my facial and came across Chantecaille. If you know about the brand you know it's expensive AF but the sales associates let me play and didn't hover while I browsed. When I did have questions they answered and offered suggestions. Jody, Andrew (I think his name is Andrew), Knatalia, and Didi (aka Linle) were the staff on duty that all pitched in when I needed help. I don't think they work off commission since nobody acted territorial and everyone helped me out without reservation. If you need a facial, come here and be open minded if Jessica recommends adding/changing something. I always thought I was being upsold but now I wish I'd gotten the microderm sooner. Afterward, Rachelle gave me an amazing makeup application experience while educating me on the best care for my skin. I walked in there looking "okay for my age" and left looking "Wow!" This rating is strictly for the store and sales associates, not the spa services I've since visited this location twice, both with disappointing results. I was initially super excited that there was a high-end cosmetics store within walking distance, thus relieving me from driving out to Pentagon or Tysons. I was in the market for a cleanser and foundation and was looking to see if they carried Chanel, as they do at other locations. I was greeted politely by a woman at the counter when I walked in and I asked if they carried Chanel or Ahava, two brands I found on their website. She referred me to a gentleman who let me know that not all stores carry everything they sell on the website and then abruptly turned around and walked away. Um, okay guy, care to recommend any one of the other tens of brands you DO carry at this location? I ended up leaving because I didn't feel like sticking around and waving anyone else down for help. I visited again tonight to buy a candle as a gift as well as try out some other products. There were 3 sales associates crowded around the counter and not one person greeted me or asked me if I needed help. Although I appreciate that they carry a really good selection of diptyque and tocca candles, most of them were so dusty and old that you couldn't tell which scent they were. I ended up purchasing a candle and got out of there without bothering to ask for help/samples. I'm a little sad about my experience because I thought Blue Mercury was supposed to be a store that carries high-end products with matching service. I've been here quite a few times, very convienent because I work right around the corner. The staff has always been nothing but friendly and helpful! For waxing, Jessica is amazing. A few girls I work with go to her and we all love her! She's quick, and pays attention to detail and is very good at what she does. I will never go anywhere else after being here. I have been going to this Blue Mercury for 5 years now and see Jessica who is a dream. She does everything well and thinks about each persons individual need and follows through with them. I mainly go there for wax and would never go to anyone else. Not only is she extremely professional and personal, she is also efficient and and an expert at her job. It is the most pain free waxing I have ever experienced and would recommend her to anyone. I had gone to many other places before coming to her and seriously do not dread going since I started. Love the eyebrow waxing! Jessica does a great job, and I've always been able to just walk in and get it done right away without an appointment. Like the store, but some things are ridiculously expensive ($50 candles!), and some things are overpriced (I paid $10 more for an Orbie conditioner there than I would have at my hairstylists or at Sephora or Birchbox). I also don't like that they don't have any kind of loyalty program like Sephora or Ulta and don't give free samples of anything, even when I've asked. A few of their employees are suuuuuuuppppppppeeeeeeerrrrrr pushy about trying/buying their products, but most are cool and let you browse without being bothered. Though, I'm still mad about one male make up artist who literally forced me to get a mini makeover then talked me into buying $120 worth of products I had no intention of buying while I waited all of 5 min for my friend to get her eyebrows waxed. Came here for an eyelash tint after one of the employees recommended it to me. I have very blonde eyelashes, and like to get them tinted dark brown every so often. I usually go to DC Lash Bar for a lift and tint, but decided to try Blue Mercury instead, since I can walk there from my house. The woman tinting my lashes was very kind, but as soon as she put the dye on my lashes, I knew something was wrong. My roots of my lashes were burning like crazy, and so were the inside corners of my eye. She said to hang on a little bit longer, but it was intolerable. I sat up, and she used water to rinse my eye. I did not have to pay for this experience, which is good because my eyes are STILL BURNING. read more

I had a pretty good facial on Tuesday 9/10 with Jess (I think that's her name, she never actually told me). It was throughout and overall a good experience. During the facial she asked me which products i used (Caudalie, Darphan, Lune+Aster and M-61). It was annoying she kept asking but whatever-- we talked about it a few times. She then said several times she'd give me a product to help with my cheek acne. I assumed she met a sample so we went to check out and she had plopped down a $125 product. I quickly said I wasn't willing to spend that. She pushed more and in an oddly aggressive way before grabbing a $99 product which I also declined. I said I'd be happy to get something in the $50 range. She didn't say anything and JUST WALKED AWAY FROM ME. It was such a sour ending to a pretty great facial. For years I've seen Kirsten at the P St location and she's lovely-- I never felt upsold. The product she pushed on me was no where near the price rang of the other products I use but her attitude once I declined was really awful. read more

I've never been disappointed by the selection. I'm usually here strictly for the Fekkai. The Fekkai is reasonably priced which is a good thing. After trolling Yelp for years and never having a profile of my own I finally decided to get one, and one of the first reviews I had to give was for Jessica. I have been getting brazilians done by Jessica for about 5 years and I cannot give her enough praise. She knows what she is doing, is quick, effective and precise about her work....but most importantly she makes you feel very comfortable and flows great conversation through what can be an awkward experience. I have recommended Jessica to friends for eyebrows, facials, etc and they all love her as well and continue to go back as much as I do now.
