They have good products and a nice store layout but awful customer service. I have been a few times due to them carrying my preferred hair care line. Last time instead of interacting with me in an empty store the associate just straightened behind me like I was a shoplifter. No I don't wear make up, mostly because I don't know how to apply it. So I thought about writing this review all weekend. I called Blue Mercury on a Thursday to find out if they had any makeup application options for Saturday. I had received a flyer in the mail that they were having representatives from various makeup lines in the store for the next few weeks. I thought well, great idea, I have a black tie event to attend on Saturday, would be a great excuse to get my makeup done and purchase some Spring makeup. The girl who answered the phone (I think her name was Ashley) was very kind and mentioned that Laura Mercier was going to be in on Saturday and they could take me at 5:30. I said, yes, I'll take it. Only implication, I had to purchase 3 makeup products. No big deal, I like LM cosmetics. She said this is a great deal because if a BM rep applied my makeup the fee would have been $75. I called the store to confirm my appointment Saturday morning and we are good to go. I arrive at 5PM, and said I have an appt with the LM representative. They are confused and asked if I had an appointment scheduled. I said yes, and they continued to ask who I spoke to... Long story short, I see the LM rep leave the store, she says something like I can't take her, I've worked my hours today. So Carolyn (a Blue Mercury rep) says, I can take care of you. I'm like, okay, that's fine, I want to get my makeup done. So she does a great job with my makeup, I ask her what I need for touch ups, she gives me three products (lip liner, stain, and gloss). I purchase all three and go to checkout. The man who is checking me out says, do you want to tip the makeup artist and I said sure, let's do $15. The total comes to $180. I'm charged $75 for the makeup service, gratuity, and the makeup products. I ask him, why am I being charged for the makeup fee, and he says, oh because you used a BM rep and not a makeup line rep. Okay, I've gotta run, my husband is at home waiting for me to attend our event. I called the store a few days later and spoke to a manager, he can't do anything for me. He cannot guarantee the hours of the makeup representative. In my mind, don't make the appointment then. I would have figured out other options. I could have gone to the MAC store or Nordstrom's or somewhere else. I was completely annoyed, he mentioned that the BM should have told me the cost ahead of time and that she should have told me that I didn't have to choose 3 products. He says, I will let her know that she needs to let customers know these things. He says, I'm happy to "allow" you to return the products that you purchased. I don't care that bought these products, I care that I was charged for something that you didn't tell me about!!! Please keep in mind that I have gone to 2 other events and I had reps do my makeup at this specific location. One for a NARS event last fall and another one last Summer. I will NEVER go here again for makeup. It's a loss because I really loved this place and was a consistent client. I literally was just there a week before and bought a 1 liter of shampoo and got a spa service. read more

Blue Mercury does not post prices, does not inform customers of the price points, so consequently, $30 plus tip ranges in the "are you kidding me"? I have been coming to Bluemercury for about 7 years - first in DC and then in Clarendon. I called in November to get their sale dates for La Mer and was told the sale was going on through December 2-13. I was out of town at the beginning of the sale so went in on the last day and was unceremoniously told the sale ended December 11th. The sales manager didn't care that I'd been a customer for years or that the possibility existed that someone on their staff gave me bad info (if I made it up, how is it I was off by 2 days?) but she grilled me on when did I call and proudly stated that although she was the manager she'd call her supervisor but she said that nothing would change. I mentioned this to my skin care professional who said she had bad service there more than once now and stopped going (she orders her La Mer online & said they give full size samples with purchase). She also told me that she has another client who spends thousands there and this woman said there are multiple causes for complaint. Super rude as reviewed here in July is my experience as well and I will not go back. (additionally parking is difficult and there are aggressive panhandlers in the area). read more

This is a horrible Store which only cares about their seedlings. I went there to purchase jo Malone perfume. First they told me they didn't carry it in this store but I can purchase here and they would to Bethesda to pick up for me. And I should get it any time from 11-9 two days after. Two days later I went there they told me it's not here, they were going to pick up now. Obviously they forgot to do that. An hour later I got my perfume without any box, wrapping with a cheap tissue paper, which is super unprofessional!! When I asked , they told me that's how jo Malone sold. Excuse me!!! I ve been a customer with this brand over years, they never been sold like that. I would never go back this place, it's the horrible experience!!! Some background - I live in Clarendon and have shopped at this store about 5 times in the past 12 months. They carry both Jack Black & Kiehl's for men and I can walk there from my house..double win! Now the reason for the poor review - the staff here is HORRIBLE. They are so extremely pretentious it's out of control. If you ask them for help, they act like they are doing you a favor by doing there job. They are not helpful at all. I was with my girlfriend when she was speaking with the "Trish" makeup rep who even noted that the staff at this particular store was very poor and apologized on their behalf. From this point forward I will make a point to order all my products from Amazon instead. At lease Amazon Prime delivers better service than the staff at the Clarendon Bluemercury. read more

I have very sensitive skin - Jessica takes the time to, not only treat my skin, but educate me on ways to maintain is post treatments. This review is for the eyebrow waxing and store products/customer service: Eyebrow waxing - While perusing, I was given a copy of their spa menu, and decided to get an eyebrow shaping. At $25 it's the most I've paid for eyebrow waxing, but decided to give it a try because I've had way too many bad experiences with cheap waxings by untrained technicians at just any ol' nail salon, so I wanted to see what the added value would get me. I was not disappointed and, in fact, I will make this my regular waxing place. Jessica was the esthetician who did my eyebrows, and she did a great job. The spa room was clean, professional, and relaxing. They use a really good wax because it was the most painless waxing I've ever had. I'm considering getting a facial there next! Retail store - I'd never shopped at a Bluemercury store before. They have several high-end skin-care and beauty lines, including some familiar brands (such as Nars, Laura Mercier, Khiel's), and a few that are less ubiquitous. Some of their prices are a little steep, but I appreciate the variety. While browsing though, I was helped by Christina, who was great at suggesting and demonstrating the use of products and introducing me to some of the lines that I was unfamiliar with. I have been coming here for years, so this review is long overdue. Jessica at the spa is wonderful. She is efficient, friendly, and always starts my appointment right on time. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I can also highly recommend Blue Mercury's product selection. Luxury brands Molten Brown and Lafco (scented candles in art glass containers) can be difficult or impossible to find locally. Blue Mercury carries both of these brands, and I regularly pick them up for both holiday and hostess gift giving. In fact, it wouldn't be Christmas in our house without the annual holiday sale, where we pick up gifts and stock up on staples. I've even managed to get my husband in there once or twice, and that's saying a lot. I'm puzzled by some of the reviews that state the front desk staff aren't friendly. I've been greeted every time I come into the store (at least once a month), and I've found everyone to be generally pleasant. read more
