We arrived to continue her care after her vet closed for the day. As soon as I walked in carrying my blanket covered baby, they led me into their open concept care area. There were maybe a dozen or so examination tables and several kennels along the walls and there's also, I think, two surgery rooms and a couple of dimly lit rooms for saying goodbye. Clients see what's going on with every pet at the different examination tables. Sadly I witnessed a dog die after the staff tried giving it chest compressions for what felt like forever. They really seemed to try and give it their all. It was the saddest thing to witness, especially knowing my dog was likely headed in that same direction. I lost it and cried. One of the many bouts of tears I had that day. Unlike the exam tables, the surgery and goodbye rooms are private. Dr. Burbano and staff examined my dog to see if there was anything they could do and they gave me my options and the corresponding prices. The price went up the longer they cared for my dog. I could leave her there for 24 hours, 12, 8, 4 etc and I could stay with her the whole time. I could tell there wouldn't be any progress if I left her there longer so I ended up leaving her for 8-10 hrs, enough time for progress to hopefully be made but not so long as to avoid the inevitable and to have an unnecessarily high bill. After hours on the exam table they moved her to a kennel. From the kennel she was moved to a dimly lit room where I held her in my arms for hours and said my goodbyes as she was hooked up to an IV. While in the room, a staff member went over end of life options with me, private or group cremation, different urns etc. Paying for everything was very convenient. They texted me the itemized pricing for both my dog's car and end of life options and you pay from your phone, never having to leave your pet's side. My dog's cremated remains and end of life items where delivered to my home I believe a week or two later. The postal worker ( not a VEG employee) was also kind and compassionate during the delivery. I loved how caring the VEG staff was, how well they explained everything, and that they were very understanding and didn't rush me at all. I greatly appreciate my dog's veterinarian referring me to VEG and I would highly recommend them to anyone experiencing a pet emergency or saying goodbye to their precious furry one.

Dog is needing surgical services and like any animal owner I'd like to know a range of pricing to understand where I'm going to land. Not an exact number but a nice range with a high degree of variability. That isn't the policy here. They immediately try to schedule an appt for a "consultation" and tell you you HAVE to pay a $50 deposit for this great honor, apparently. I told her before I commit to an appt I'm trying to see between them, blue pearl, and other facilities that are through our rescue network. She said verbatim "legally I cannot disclose pricing that's a conversation after you pay your deposit and have the consultation with your doctor". What? Are you kidding me? This tells me a few things, their pricing is astronomical and they try to lock you into surgery or lose your deposit. And they can't be trusted. If you have this shroud of secrecy around a range of pricing, then you aren't who I want to consider doing business with. These people have gotten too big for their britches. I'm looking elsewhere.

My husband took him and waited from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and they said he was licking the wound so it developed an infection. It was on his back and there was no way for him to reach it. In any event, they took off the two stitches and wrapped him up. We decided not to use them anymore. There is not a lot of saving on going to Safe Haven. You may save $10.00 on the office visit from other places, but it's not worth the wait or the service.

I've now been a client at modern animal for a few months. I have five cats, and three of them have…read morehealth problems (we rescued two of them from our literal yard so they were former street cats turned house-cats; health problems are inevitable). I've now taken all of them to modern animal at least once. Two have had to have tooth extractions, one was diagnosed with FIV, another with feline leukemia, and another got Giardia when he snuck out of the house. They've had their rabies boosters, general checkups, surgical procedures, x rays, you name it (I spend a lot of money on vet care!). They are not cheap, but it's worth it to me. Needless to say, I've spent a lot of time at the Heights and Rice clinics of modern animal. Here's what I love: the vets move between the two clinics so you have a ton of options when booking appointments. Literally every vet and every vet tech I've dealt with has been PHENOMENAL. They truly love your animals. They are kind and compassionate and highly skilled. They also have Saturday appointments which is huge when you work a lot. Appointments are easy to book online, your pet's records are readily available in the app, you can immediately grab invoices and care summaries for submitting claims through your pet insurance (do you have pet insurance? You should have pet insurance). They communicate quickly and reply to messages with a ton of great information. They discuss costs transparently, and if you're unable to afford what they recommend they come prepared with multiple options of lower cost vets in the area. They actually care that your pet is healthy, even if that means sending you to a different place. I know that they were bought out by Chewy and they're not a local mom and pop shop. I typically prefer mom and pop shops but they don't always have the availability that I need. And, Chewy is a good company. I incorrectly thought they were owned by a PE firm, but I should have known better. No PE firm would allow a company to care as much as modern animal does, and they would cut a lot more corners. Modern animal does not cut corners and it shows. I love my babies with my whole heart and I trust modern animal to care for them properly. I'm grateful to have them in the area.

Unfortunately I had to put my senior dog down approx just a bit over a week after the visit due to what I believe was a heavy prescription dose. I was bringing my 16+ yr old dog to this vet for librela injections the past few months since moving back to town. I knew my buddy was wearing down, but beyond slow walking from arthritis, he wasn't showing any other major signs. The last visit I scheduled was to have an honest conversation with the dr about end of life and signs to look out for since it was my first time going through this. I knew the dr Cagle was out of town on holiday, and I specifically asked for an experienced dr to meet. I showed up to the appointment, only to be met by a dr who in my best description seemed "sedated"... she looked hung over/out of it, she showed no empathy or care about the situation, struggled to form coherent sentences, and provided absolutely no good information, and after about a minute or two of looking at my dog (first time) was ready to walk out. I pointed out to the dr my dog had some skin rashes (which she barely looked at) and had been diagnosed with early kidney disease a couple of years ago, but no major progression. She prescribed 300mg gabapentin twice daily and carprofen 100mg every other day if gabapentin didn't work. I wasn't sure why but she suggested it would alleviate any lingering pain. Also amoxicillin for skin rashes. (I learned later that this dr was a temp and on "benadryl" ) I followed dosage instructions and woke up the next day to an unresponsive dog (He was given his last gabapentin the night before around midnight). I thought he was dead. Had urinated his bed and was just dead weight with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. I had to monitored him for the following 36-48 hrs, and he never fully regained complete mobility of his limbs or could hold weight. He seemed super disoriented at all times. I seeked advice from other local doctors who all seemed to agree these were heavy doses for a senior dog with potential kidney disease, as these meds are hard on the kidneys. I must say dr Cagle did reach out about this situation during his trip, after I voiced my displeasure with the visit to the staff. He stuck to this being proper treatment, and said he would follow up on dec 19th when back in town. My dog had to be put down on dec 22nd... and I never received any follow up to even see how he was doing....

I have not screamed at them or cursed at them or nothing, and I am being shut down in a way after trying to help my senior citizen mother with her cat who needs a blood transfusion, and I am literally in tears at how I have been treated when I am trying to help a cat that is suffering. This is disgusting horrible evil behavior by your staff. I will never trust this company with any animal ever. There is no kindness. There is no compassion. There is zero level of care for anyone or their pet when there is an urgent need for help. And this is disheartening because I'm in the rescue community and I have done so much for so many animals and have brought business to this company and to be treated this way is sickening. Caution Advised I…read morehad a troubling experience boarding my two German Shepherds and French Bulldog with Cawlm over Memorial Day weekend, which marked my second time using their services. Typically, my family travels every weekend for my son's junior dragster races, but since my usual boarding facility was fully booked, I opted for Cawlm again--a decision I now regret. Midway through the boarding period, I received a voicemail informing me that my healthy German Shepherd, Ozzy, had suffered a very severe heat stroke. I was told he was let outside briefly with his siblings, but after being brought back inside, the vet noticed he was acting strangely and opted to leave him be for a house call. By the time Dr. Glass returned from a house call, Ozzy was unresponsive, had vomited, and experienced a seizure, with a dangerously high body temperature exceeding 107.0 degrees. Throughout the rest of his time at the clinic, I was reassured that he was improving and even deemed fit for grooming. However, this was not the case, when I picked him up, he was completely UNABLE to WALK, STAND, keep his head up for longer than 10 seconds, and had severe bloody diarrhea. To make matters worse, he began having multiple seizures later that night into the morning. Dr Glass never even called to check on him after she cleared him to go home. I ended taking him to a specialist, and with the proper care he fortunately made a full recovery. Despite my prior request for Ozzy to be kept with his brother during boarding (he can have separation anxiety from his brother), this was completely ignored!!! Additionally, I was charged over $4,000 (in which I never received a bill at pick up, she was extremely fast to swipe my credit card) for the hospital bill and stay in a kennel area that was uncomfortably hot, which directly contributed to his heat stroke and had another $7,500 bill from the specialist. When I visited the facility afterward to discuss the bill with Dr Glass I asked to see where Ozzy was staying and the stifling heat was unbearable and I immediately began to sweat just standing there. The only refund I ever received was for the unnecessary medication she prescribed. I do not believe I should have been charged for any of this!!!! And I do not recommend Cawlm for boarding or any Veterinarian Services I wish I could give them zero stars!
