I am immensely grateful to the Veterinary Emergency Group staff. It's nice to know 24 hr care like this exists. The staff was tremendously compassionate, helpful and comforting to me as I faced my dog's final day. I was referred to VEG by my dog's vet. We arrived to continue her care after her vet closed for the day. As soon as I walked in carrying my blanket covered baby, they led me into their open concept care area. There were maybe a dozen or so examination tables and several kennels along the walls and there's also, I think, two surgery rooms and a couple of dimly lit rooms for saying goodbye. Clients see what's going on with every pet at the different examination tables. Sadly I witnessed a dog die after the staff tried giving it chest compressions for what felt like forever. They really seemed to try and give it their all. It was the saddest thing to witness, especially knowing my dog was likely headed in that same direction. I lost it and cried. One of the many bouts of tears I had that day. Unlike the exam tables, the surgery and goodbye rooms are private. Dr. Burbano and staff examined my dog to see if there was anything they could do and they gave me my options and the corresponding prices. The price went up the longer they cared for my dog. I could leave her there for 24 hours, 12, 8, 4 etc and I could stay with her the whole time. I could tell there wouldn't be any progress if I left her there longer so I ended up leaving her for 8-10 hrs, enough time for progress to hopefully be made but not so long as to avoid the inevitable and to have an unnecessarily high bill. After hours on the exam table they moved her to a kennel. From the kennel she was moved to a dimly lit room where I held her in my arms for hours and said my goodbyes as she was hooked up to an IV. While in the room, a staff member went over end of life options with me, private or group cremation, different urns etc. Paying for everything was very convenient. They texted me the itemized pricing for both my dog's car and end of life options and you pay from your phone, never having to leave your pet's side. My dog's cremated remains and end of life items where delivered to my home I believe a week or two later. The postal worker ( not a VEG employee) was also kind and compassionate during the delivery. I loved how caring the VEG staff was, how well they explained everything, and that they were very understanding and didn't rush me at all. I greatly appreciate my dog's veterinarian referring me to VEG and I would highly recommend them to anyone experiencing a pet emergency or saying goodbye to their precious furry one. read more

Incredible establishment and amazing professionals. Ultimately would highly recommend this ER clinic (2785 IH-10 E). Long story incoming, fair warning. I brought our dog Ramsey in at 8am as he had suddenly been vomiting overnight, panting heavily, walking kind of wobbly and eventually could barely stand up on his own. As soon as I carried him in, the receptionist saw the urgency and called the entire team to attend to him. They immediately took him to the examination table and started running their tests. Dr. Cara Taylor pulled me to the side and unfortunately informed me that she believed a hidden tumor on his spleen had ruptured and he was leaking blood into his stomach, and she basically believed it to be a case of hemangiosarcoma and that his outlook wasn't good based on her experience. She gave me the news quite confidently and professionally which I really appreciated even though it was the most heartbreaking thing to hear. The team of 3-4 techs/vets proceeded to perform X-rays and draw his blood in order to inject it back into him to keep him stabilized. My wife eventually came and we were presented with the decision of surgery to remove his spleen. Dr. Taylor was very honest and open about the financial cost and the multiple outcomes that could occur and the probability of each happening. She made it clear that even if the surgery was successful it may only buy him a few more months depending on the severity of the cancer spread. She informed us that the tumor could even be benign, but did not mislead us in any way and said it would maybe be 10-20% chance of that happening. She also made sure we understood that there was even a high chance that due to his instability that he could even bleed out, or if mid-surgery she sees that the cancer has spread too far, that they would advise us that they would likely discontinue the process because at that point, it'd be too late to save him. She made us feel very comfortable that whatever we decided to do was absolutely reasonable and understandable given the situation, and never once pressured us into one way or the other. We made the call to proceed with the surgery knowing his odds were low and the financial cost was high, because we wanted to give our baby boy a chance to pull through with no regrets. Because it was such a sudden unexpected event, we were not prepared to say goodbye that day and wanted to bring him home, even with a shortened timeline after. Each step of the way, the staff made us feel so very comfortable, with compassion and attentiveness, offering us space for us to keep physical contact with our boy, kept him warm with blankets, cleaned up his messes that he made under stress and medication assuring us that it's no big deal and promptly cleaned it up. They treated Ramsey as if he were their own pet and we really felt like they truly cared and were doing all they could to comfort and save him. Unfortunately, after all was said and done, his heart could not endure the surgery and stopped beating, and attempts to resuscitate him were not successful. They led us to the private room and took the time to patch him back up so that we could say our goodbyes. They let us take all the time we need as we had a few friends and family nearby come say goodbye as well. We discussed the itemized bill, adjusted for procedures and meds that were not performed since Ramsey didn't make it that far, and they explained the cremation options thoroughly. And they made sure to inform us of the multiple payment options and third party plans as well. At the end of the day, it was the worst day of our lives, but the incredible staff made it the best experience that it could be for us. The entire team was extremely attentive and we knew they were doing all that they could, because we were there in person to witness first hand every procedure with our own eyes and ears, staying within Ramsey's sight and talking to him and petting him to provide comfort. Unfortunately I did not grab everyone's names, but special shoutout to Dr. Taylor and Elise. Elise even shed tears with us, that's how much she cared. Another vet with a bit of green in her hair, she was also amazing. She personally kept air flowing to his mouth and had his head elevated with her own arms, it was very endearing. Thank you team VEG for all that you did. The outcome was devastating, but you helped make us feel very content that we did the right thing, and nurtured us every step of the way. We are still grieving tremendously but we couldn't have asked for a better team to be by Ramsey's side on his last day before crossing the rainbow bridge. read more

I was already distressed, and instead of offering compassion or clear medical guidance, the staff immediately grabbed her and within five minutes were demanding $2,000 up front. They also insisted I call poison control, which cost another $95, before even running any tests or giving me a proper update. I was left sitting in a room crying while they used scare tactics, telling me my puppy might die if I didn't agree to their expensive treatment plan. I was told to apply for affirm , credit care credit or scratch pay. Actually, all that's listed in that room is payment options. Nothing else like tips on being a good pet owner or anything. Their main focus is get you to to pay for an expensive treatment. At one point, I was told she was temporarily blind, possibly suffering from a lifelong nerve disorder, and that I should prepare to be a frequent client with ongoing bills. Yet.....no tests had been run to support these claims. When I asked if she was even breathing, they casually said she was "on oxygen," which they made sound far more extreme than it actually was. When I was finally allowed to see her, she looked better than when I brought her in. She made eye contact, followed me with her eyes, and even blinked yet the vet still tried to convince me she was blind, saying she was only responding to "vibrations." What they had really done was simply place her in an oxygen cage. We offered to pay for a reasonable plan... fluids, overnight monitoring, and bloodwork but were told it was "all the tests or discharge." They then pushed euthanasia, suggesting it was the "humane" thing to do because her "quality of life" would be poor. This was appalling, especially since no testing had been done and my puppy was showing improvement right in front of me. We chose to take her home, monitor her, and give her fluids ourselves. By morning, she was completely back to normal without any of the unnecessary medications they had prescribed. This clinic preys on pet owners in crisis, exploiting emotions to push outrageously expensive and often unnecessary treatments. They were not focused on helping my puppy they were focused on my wallet. And kept asking how much can I put down? How much can I afford? The bill was almost 5K then drop down to 3K and then down to 1800 . If I had believed everything they told me, my healthy puppy would have been euthanized. This place is predatory. BEWARE. I spoke to another vet( not Affiliated with this establishment) I told them about what happened . I let them know how much she's improved And is eating well and walking fine and is even playful. I was told to continue to monitor her today and feed her rice, pumpkin and turkey and to bring her in for them to Assess tomorrow. UPDATE : my puppy is doing just fine. They listen, ask a bunch of follow up questions and gave us options instead of trying to push things on us. We felt like they truly cared about Duke and his wellbeing. We brought our Golden Retriever in late in the evening. She had been vomiting and was having bloody diarrhea. They took her in for an examination right away. The doctors, nurses and technicians were all very competent, professional, knowledgeable and most importantly very kind and compassionate. They all looked like they loved animals and obviously loved their profession. It was quite clear to us that they really wanted to help. Our dog ended up getting admitted and had to have a lot of work done, but they took great care of her and by Gods grace she did ok. Each and every doctor and nurse who took care of our Ruby was excellent. Special shout out to Drs Santoni, Butts, Parker and Lang for their kindness and expertise. Also special shout out to Ms Erika, Tiffani and Mindy for their exceptional care and kindness. The place itself is very impressive. It is clean, open, airy and doesn't have that animal smell that is common in vet clinics and hospitals. There is plenty of parking and it is very convenient to get to, right off I10. Freaking Out! I rushed to me ER... actually I called before l arrived for God only knows what my finances are currently. I was greeted at the door when I arrived and was moved expeditiously to the room. My dog unfortunately has some tummy issues and a hurt paw but I thank the entire staff for all the blessings they bestowed on to me today. Used to think this was a top notch facility. Unfortunately the lack of care isn't worth the really cool setup they have. I'm so disappointed that this is how they operate now and wish I hadn't had such a terrible experience. Sent my dog home without the medications discussed so that he, shocker, gets worse over night. When I call for information I get a rude doctor who hangs up on me mid conversation after I was on hold for 18 minutes. I paid $1900 for services rendered, I expect more than this. This isn't the first time they've mis-spoken about treatment provided. I had a puppy two years ago who was supposed to be on antibiotics post surgery because he was high risk for infection. My actual vet spoke to them about it. They didn't and he died. He DIED. Woke to a stumbling, off balance senior dog and walked in to the nearest VEG. We were greeted and taken to the exam area immediately. Staff was welcoming, warm, and calm. We felt listened to and heard when describing our dog's issues. Dr. Demshar and Tiffani explained everything at every step, asking if we agreed and if we had any questions or concerns. We witnessed the same level of care and attention for every person and pet whether already in care or just coming in. Though we did not need to leave our dog with them, I would have no qualms (other than the usual worry) doing so, knowing she would tended to and loved. This was, thankfully, a straight forward and simple diagnosis and plan of care. Emergency vet visits are always expensive; this visit was worth the money. They assisted my dog immediately once we arrived, we did have to wait as was expected since it is an emergency clinic but they were extremely attentive and the bed side manner was excellent. I was able to be with my dog the entire time and I was involved in the entire visit. This clinic is exceptional and everyone was beyond sweet and professional. They did a comprehensive exam and then though they suggested supportive care/waiting to see how she does they also offered testing if it would give me piece of mind. We are really grateful for the compassion and care they gave our dog - Tank - at the end of his life. We left Gulf Coast after they said he'd need to stay overnight, alone in a kennel, just to be seen for an ultrasound the next morning. Aside from being very sick, he's never been away from his brother and does not like new situations, so we ended up at VEG. So glad we did! Within minutes of arriving, they were able to give him an ultrasound and blood tests. The best part is my husband was able to be with him the entire time they were treating him, which is a huge benefit for our shy dog and immediately increased our trust in the practice. They were very transparent about treatment and prognosis. They made him comfortable and gave him IV fluids and respected our wishes to take him home, so our family and dogs could say goodbye and he could pass peacefully at home with his loved ones around. They didn't know if they had a room available when we arrived. When they finally took us back it was a bunch of women standing around one computer. The receptionist and pretty much everyone there looked me up and down was really judgmental and talked to me like I was incredibly ignorant. The vet wanted to charge over $1000 for sedation, bloodwork, antibiotic, pain meds, and a steroid as well as give a methadone shot. I asked like heroin users get? She said yes bc it's such a strong opiate. I asked other people I know that train dogs and have dogs and they all literally thought it was insane. read more

I went to the VEG pet emergency clinic on I-10 in Houston and was very disappointed with the service. My dog had a deep cut about an inch long near his eye and we waited almost an hour for them to get us signed in and work up an estimate of the cost. The doctor who was supposed to be treating my dog was eating lunch at her computer while we waited for an estimate to be created. I called my wife to find another emergency clinic then another another doctor came over and went through the registration process so she could show me the estimate. To clean out the wound and provide some antibiotics was over $1200 so I told her I only wanted to have the wound cleaned and I would take the dog to my regular veterinarian on Monday. She said they would have to work up another estimate so I left and went home to doctor the wound myself. There were people standing around with nothing to do while I sat and waited for the doctor assigned to me to eat lunch then got an absurd estimate for a 20 minute task to clean a wound and provide some antibiotics to prevent infection. Do not take you pets to VEG emergency clinics. Their service is bad and they take advantage of customers in need to charge absurd prices. read more

And we couldn't bear to see them suffer so, when it was clear they ere done, we took the ailing senior cat to emergency vet. This group of professionals are great at what they do AND how they do it! Unlike many other "ER" Clinics, this is a true, fully staffed Intensive Care Unit. We called another ER who recommended VEG. We called in advance and a team was waiting on our dog. They immediately offered and performed test including sending images to a radiologist. They made our dog and us comfortable, resolved his issues while keeping us knowledgeable about what symptoms to watch for and what to do. Maybe. First of all the time I took my cat in it was during afternoon hours. I think it matters as who is on staff. The receptionist & veterinarian took my cat quickly & outlined what they would need to do & cost. The next morning I figured I would take my other er r cat to them as he was crying while eating & sniffling. The receptionist left to talk to a different vet from night before. An Italian name . Anyways the vet comes out ti me & said we don't treat teeth. Ok but do you treat an infection? She kept saying we don't do that. I know my cat could have been helped with antibiotic shot but she kept saying no & that would cost me over $500. Now I'm not poor. I would pay thousands to make my cat better. But that she refused I said she wasn't much of a vet that cared. So use your discretion. As sartoni or something like that is either a bigot or racist or just not a nice person I think the receptionist had influenced dr by saying some nonsense & dr might have been confused. I left a review yesterday and I am not seeing it today. Not sure if it was deleted. We had our puppy the Sat 21 at 930 am. We thought he may have eaten one of our meds even though we make sure everything put up he was slow a lethargic, they only did blood, a drug test, and kept him in a cage to watch for 7hrs. they charge us over 1700. You didn't do anything or give him anything to help him. Sat night he started getting sick and having Diarrhea and Sunday it got worse. We took him to a different er in cypress who did everything x-rays, fluid blood work lots of meds and said he had a bad stomach intestine infection. The cost for all this was 400.00 less and they did twice the amount of work. Also i think its terrible to dangle someone's love for a pet over there head with a estimate...WHAT did 1700 pay for? You never called after to check on him or anything. I think you up charged us because you knew you could. We had a puppy there a year before that cost us almost 3k only to find out he had a rare disorder hydrocephalous that another Er discovered. We lost him because there was nothing we could do. I am so disappointed in this clinic and i think its terrible to charge someone that much money to put him in a cage while you do other things. read more

Took my rabbit to the ER because he wasn't eating his dinner or snacks! I called ahead and they said they don't specialize in rabbits but we're able to take him in and make sure he was okay until he's able to get into his primary care. They checked his vitals and was planning on giving him an ex ray as they didn't hear any movement in his digestive system (and rabbits digestive systems should always be moving !!) but the second they put him back down he started eating his hay ! They gave him some fluids anyway to help hydrate him and help him make a stronger recovery :) so grateful for this vet as you could tell my baby was not feeling too great ! I was worried because of all the reviews but it was reasonably priced for an ER vet and the staff was very caring and careful with my bunny!! read more

What can one say about our beloved fur baby? They love us unconditionally, always bringing joy and smiles to our lives. When our English Bulldog, Tank, fell ill, we were filled with anxiety and heartbreak, desperate to help him recover. We reached out to the Veterinary Emergency Group, we let them know the symptoms over the phone and they advised that he should be seen "by a 24 hour Veterinary Emergency clinic." This doctor's words left a strong impression. She didn't suggest that we bring him to their facility, but any 24 hour emergency clinic of our choice. Upon our arrival, Dr. Butts and Tanks' dedicated care team, Jaelyn, Rocio, and Jessie, exceeded our expectations in caring for our cherished companion. Beyond medical care, they prioritized our emotional and physical well-being, offering snacks, drinks, floor chairs, and blankets. The entire staff continuously checked in on us, ensuring our comfort. The opportunity to spend the night with our big guy cemented our belief that we had made the right choice. This level of compassion is rare in pet emergency locations. They even arranged a separate room for us to stay. The overnight staff was equally empathetic, Dr. Taylor and Liz were amazing, and though there are too many to name, they were all exceptional in their care and kindness. Are they expensive, yes! After being unable to get my dog into his regular vet, I was recommended to come here by two veterinarians. Ultimately, I wish I had stuck with our previous Sunset Animal Hospital. My dog suffered from sudden diarrhea, and I was charged about $1,300 for standard testing and a few generic medications (probiotics) just for nothing to work. My dog remained sick for another week (I followed up several times), and in the end, I had to tell them the medications he needed to resolve my dog's problems. I was shocked to see that out of all of the "necessary" testing recommended, none of the tests included a stool and urine sample examination, given he had diarrhea and occasional vomiting. Nobody even thought to mention antibiotics or a dewormer. I spent $1,300 at VEG and $200 at Sunset Animal Hospital, where his treatment resolved the issues in 2 days, not two weeks, and he was given ample food and medication to take home. I was willing to put my confidence into VEG due to the severity of my dog's issues and the convenient distance. Still, I was highly disappointed in the treatment provided despite the recommendations to go here. A positive is that the staff is friendly and the facility is clean, but as someone who has been to various vets and animal hospitals in Houston, VEG will not be a recommendation for treatment. read more

As for all ER vets, the cost was high, but we left knowing what was going on with a tentative course of action for our sick dog. Know Before You Go $800 blood test required out of the shoot before checking your animal in. Doesn't matter the symptoms. Just one and done - blood test $800 - pay up before we see your pet. I had one cat for 20 years who came to Gulf Coast three times. First, he was six months old and had nasal herpes from the shelter where I adopted him. That first visit cost $800 bloodwork plus $300 diagnostic plus $4000 for a few days' overnight stay for over stimulation on top of antiviral meds. Worth it! Only because I had the money and God's will. My sweetie recovered and lasted with me for twenty years. But really?? Brought the sweet boy back 17 years later for what looked like a stroke. Gulf Coast said, "We don't know." Charged me $800 for the bloodwork, and took Pierre to the back to rest in an oxygen tank. I didn't see anyone for four hours. When I saw someone at the front desk in the fifth hour and asked the receptionist where my cat was, the response was, "He's in the back in an oxygen tank. The doctor will talk to you when we have blood test results." At this point, I have my best friend, an old and dying cat, taken fom me to the back of a place where I cannot find any staff/nurses/vets to answer questions, two more hours went by where I cried silently, wanting so badly to be with Pierre. After six more hours, I finally saw someone at reception and told her I needed to see Pierre because I had heard nothing at all for hours from any vet. She told me she would try to find the vet but that Pierre was in an oxygen tank. That vet did not show up for two more hours, and then she gave me hospice and cremation information for my cat! She said it was a clot and his quality of life will decline. Might as well prepare for the end. I told her I wanted Pierre to come home right then. My 14 y.o. miniature schnauzer was having seizures. My regular vet recommended VEG. As soon as we arrived, we were taken back and they immediately advised the initial recommended course of action. Dr. Santoni and nurse Danae were fantastic. They kept me informed throughout Bella's stay. While their services are expensive, I've not experienced the level of service they provide at other emergency vets. I was satisfied with the quality of care they provided and the compassion they exhibited. I liked that I was able to go back and be with Bella while they treated her. I had been here bringing my granddog for my kids everyone was kind and compassionate. I stayed until my kids could arrive with their dog. That was my first experience living in Bryan Texas. I was in Houston for a few days with my dogs. I had an emergency I rushed it over they got me in right away. They were very compassionate gave me practical options. Brought my little guy here because of severe stomach issues. I'm from Houston but live in California, and as long as I've had my little Cookie this has by far been the best veterinary care he's ever had and I've witnessed.
