My sweet dog was diagnosed with a condition that gave her about 12 months to live - those 12 months being filled with vet visits and declining health. It took less than 18 hours for my cat to go into a routine vet visit, sent immediately to BluePearl Hospital, diagnosed with inoperable cancer (they couldn't even tell where she ended and the cancerous masses began inside), to her having to be put down. The vets (accurately) said she wouldn't make it 48 hours before sepsis set in and killed her. So, we had to move fast, but I was absolutely adamant about being able to give her the small mercy of taking her home and doing it where she was most comfortable. After looking at the different options, I opted for BluePearl for a variety of reasons: * while 95% of the reviews on r/AskPortland had glowing things about all the local companies, there were some companies that had negative experiences with the same few vets. While BluePearl didn't have as many reviews or recs, every single one of them was positive. * the price was in line with all the other ones * the level of compassion my baby and I were shown at the hospital made me feel reassured that I was making an educated guess After it's all said and done, I cannot recommend BluePearl in general, and Dr. Leigh-Ann, specifically, enough. From our very first contact via text to her leaving with my baby's body in her arms at the end, she treated us with the utmost compassion, kindness, and respect. She managed to handle me swinging back and forth from dark humour to absolute grief without a single ounce of judgment (remember, I had almost NO time to adjust to this decision). I was most impressed with how she managed to make herself unobtrusive in the midst of being a foot away from me sobbing without coming across as cold or uncaring. She took care at every step to check in, and nothing proceeded without my say-so. Unfortunately, my baby was in so much pain that I didn't want to delay more than a few minutes while she was sedated, but I can imagine for those who are able to take the time, it would mean a lot to them. She even clipped some of my cat's whiskers for me to keep when I asked, and did everything so I wouldn't have to spend a precious second away from my baby. Even when it was all said and done, and she was bundling my baby to take for cremation, she took care when wrapping her up in a blanket to leave her head and face uncovered so I could see her as she was (minus some whiskers), as she left. I don't know how vets like Dr. Leigh-Ann do this, but I am so incredibly thankful for her services and that I was able to do this at home. It's expensive, yes, but no more or less than the other providers, and I get the reason why the cost is what it is. If you're ok with not receiving the ashes (I opted to have them returned and will likely live off oatmeal for a few months to pay for it), you can ask for a fur clipping to remember your baby by. She has an amazing gift with both people (I am...not a people person, so it takes a lot for me to say that) and animals. While the circumstances were absolutely awful and heartbreaking, Dr. Leigh-Ann made the process as gentle and compassionate as possible. read more

This is a very sad review to write. We were faced with having to put our elder dog, Miles of 16 years to sleep. He took a turn for the worse on a weekend and the thought of taking him to emergency just made me sick. Plus our other dog would be so confused as to why he never returned. I filled out an online form with Lovjng Hands late Saturday night and was contacted and scheduled Sunday morning. I appreciate how their website was very upfront with pricing. Dr. Zoe allowed us the time we needed and took the care to give a skin injection first rather than a muscle injection to avoid any potential pain for our loved family member. I had an amazing experience with Blue Pearl and Dr. Leigh-Anne. My cat that I grew up with for 17 years had told us she was ready over the weekend, and although it was expected soon, it was a very sudden decline over Saturday night. Of course on Sunday morning the vet wasn't open, and when I searched google and saw the many options for in home euthanasia, I kept coming back to Blue Pearl because something felt right about it. I am so so glad I did. I was able to make a same day appt and get everything settled online that morning, and soon after Leigh-Anne texted and gave me her ETA. I was really anxious and dreading making phone calls and coordinating with someone during a really emotional time (especially so last minute), so the ease of this still let me focus on my kitty. When she got to the house, she was so supportive and reassuring. She let us ask the questions we needed, and sat on our floor on the blanket with us as we said goodbye to my baby. I love that she asked and explained each step of the way, and wanted to know how we preferred each step to take place before moving forward. Our dog doesn't much care for his current Vet's office. He would get nervous and upset when we'd go to the vet. When the time came to put him down, we really didn't want his last trip to be the vet. (In fairness, he loved the vet himself, and so did we. He just didn't like the facility.) We found Loving Hands through the vet. They were professional and thoughtful.
