My baby, flying high on sedation and pain-free for the first time in goodness knows how long...
    C. B.

It took less than 18 hours for my cat to go into a routine vet visit, sent immediately to BluePearl Hospital, diagnosed with inoperable cancer (they couldn't even tell where she ended and the cancerous masses began inside), to her having to be put down. The vets (accurately) said she wouldn't make it 48 hours before sepsis set in and killed her. So, we had to move fast, but I was absolutely adamant about being able to give her the small mercy of taking her home and doing it where she was most comfortable. After looking at the different options, I opted for BluePearl for a variety of reasons: * while 95% of the reviews on r/AskPortland had glowing things about all the local companies, there were some companies that had negative experiences with the same few vets. While BluePearl didn't have as many reviews or recs, every single one of them was positive. * the price was in line with all the other ones * the level of compassion my baby and I were shown at the hospital made me feel reassured that I was making an educated guess After it's all said and done, I cannot recommend BluePearl in general, and Dr. Leigh-Ann, specifically, enough. From our very first contact via text to her leaving with my baby's body in her arms at the end, she treated us with the utmost compassion, kindness, and respect. She managed to handle me swinging back and forth from dark humour to absolute grief without a single ounce of judgment (remember, I had almost NO time to adjust to this decision). I was most impressed with how she managed to make herself unobtrusive in the midst of being a foot away from me sobbing without coming across as cold or uncaring. She took care at every step to check in, and nothing proceeded without my say-so. Unfortunately, my baby was in so much pain that I didn't want to delay more than a few minutes while she was sedated, but I can imagine for those who are able to take the time, it would mean a lot to them. She even clipped some of my cat's whiskers for me to keep when I asked, and did everything so I wouldn't have to spend a precious second away from my baby. Even when it was all said and done, and she was bundling my baby to take for cremation, she took care when wrapping her up in a blanket to leave her head and face uncovered so I could see her as she was (minus some whiskers), as she left. I don't know how vets like Dr. Leigh-Ann do this, but I am so incredibly thankful for her services and that I was able to do this at home. It's expensive, yes, but no more or less than the other providers, and I get the reason why the cost is what it is. If you're ok with not receiving the ashes (I opted to have them returned and will likely live off oatmeal for a few months to pay for it), you can ask for a fur clipping to remember your baby by. She has an amazing gift with both people (I am...not a people person, so it takes a lot for me to say that) and animals. While the circumstances were absolutely awful and heartbreaking, Dr. Leigh-Ann made the process as gentle and compassionate as possible.

I had to make the terrible decision to help my Big guy find his way to the rainbow bridge. Dr. Zoe made me feel confident that it was the right decision. She was so kind, gentle and patient. Tyrone and I appreciate all she did for us this afternoon. This is the second time Blue Pearl has helped us. They came to our rescue when our regular Vet turned us away during an emergency. We lost our little Lucy Magoo when a tumor in her tummy ruptured. They met me at the door, swooped her out of my arms and started to work on her right away. She was in so much pain and was just so anemic. We were unable to save her but they did an amazing. Everybody was kind, loving and compassionate.

My best friend, Ranger, had to be put to sleep due to lymphoma this week. The vet that came to help him was so very kind. She explained the process and made sure that my wife and I had time for our goodbyes, all while keeping him comfortable and feeling safe. While I wish I wasn't in a position to write this review, I hope it will help someone else, and their beloved pet, in their difficult time.

The vet that came to our home was wonderful. Completely respectful. Allowed us time through the whole process. Very compassionate.

Compassionate Care came right on time and was so kind and caring. My experience was okay…read more I made a most difficult decision to let my beloved cat go after a long weekend spent almost entirely in ER trying to figure out why he would no longer eat and why his eye was swelling shut. And an even longer two or three weeks before that fighting to get him to eat. Like others here, Kevin was closer to me than my human family. I was busy with the doctors in ER so my partner called in to make the appointment to ease my stress. He said I was primary contact, but it was difficult to make that clear all the way until the day so communications were continually going to him. Not a big deal in the overall picture, but it didn't make the experience any easier. This was my cat for 8 years before I met my partner and while he loved my baby, I was the one with the lifelong bond. The doctor showed up within the time window allotted. We both found her a little cold. I felt like we were just a job and everything was done by number. My BF picked up my cat and carried him to me, but the doctor said we should do paperwork first which resulted in me putting him down after building up to do what I deemed impossible. I was emotional and crying. This really should somehow be handled before the visit. There were corrections to be made on the form. I was about to lose my baby and this only made me aware that I was filling out his death warrant. I am utterly heartbroken. I know holding your baby until the last minute is catharsis and closure, but I found it traumatizing. His passing was peaceful at least. Everyone's goodbye will be unique, and my example will not necessarily match what others experience. Everyone we spoke to was professional. I just wasn't feeling the compassion.

After doing extensive research, we chose Dr. Casey at this hospital and it was absolutely the right decision. Our experience has been exceptional. We've been coming in for routine bloodwork and ongoing testing, and every visit has been seamless. The staff especially our vet tech Danielle are all consistently kind, professional, and attentive. Pricing is fair and transparent, which I truly appreciate. Most importantly, my cat is doing significantly better under their care!! They are also an emergency hospital, which gives me tremendous peace of mind. If we ever face an urgent situation, it's incredibly reassuring to know that her specialty care and emergency services are all under one roof. And as a thoughtful bonus their coffee machine makes an assortment of brewed coffee, which is a lovely touch during what can otherwise be stressful appointments.

Very disappointed…read more I took my dog here after she'd been vomiting for over 24 hrs. I let the front desk know my dog is highly reactive to other dogs, so we'd stay in the parking lot (in the hot July sun) in my car. The tech who came out to triage us said it would be about 2 hr wait and that that could change if someone more critical came in. I understand, when you go to emergency it's a blessing to be at the end of the line... you're not in bad shape! We waited almost 3 hrs (still not complaining... clearly someone was having a worse day than us). Once I went in and asked if we'd been forgotten, as I'd seen multiple other people arrive, walk in and walk out only to drive off before anyone came to see us, I got a text thanking me for my patience. While reading the text, I got a call saying it was our turn. The call dropped. I called back, and was told we just lost our spot! It was like 30 seconds of silence! A doctor came out, they seemed irritated from the start. Told me that no matter what they'd sedate my dog and began offering me options. I refused to sedate her (it hasn't gone well in the past) so they sent us home without so much as a "good luck", after making me feel like an idiot from refusing to sedate her. About 2 hours later, we were at DoveLewis. My dog was so lethargic she could barely walk. We were triaged and admitted within 30 minutes. She was admitted to Dove for severe dehydration and an extremely high heart rate. They kept her overnight. I asked the doctor at Dove if they thought my dog would survive the night if I took her home.... Doctor said probably not! So, BluePearl, you left us sitting for 3 hours (again, not complaining if there's someone worse than us) in the sun in a hot car, treated me like a second class citizen for not consenting to sedation when I know sedation isn't good for my dog, then sent us home like nothing was wrong when something clearly was wrong! I understand you're busy.... But you could have killed my dog!
