Hmmm. I had a very, very different experience than some of the other reviewers at this location. Some very passionate reviews that I will not dismiss. However, that is not the experience that I had. I brought my 15-year-old Italian Greyhound who was in heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy. Basically, his heart valve is failing and it's causing blood to back up in the left chamber of his heart. As soon as I arrived, a coordinator greeted me and whisked me into the exam room. I haven't had this before and have going to different vet hospitals for 15 years. Once in the exam room, a vet tech came in a did some pre-clearance stuff, and took down info about his condition. The cardiologist, Dr. Wiley came in shortly after. They took my dog and did an echocardiogram, X-rays and other heart diagnostics. They brought him back in about 45 minutes. I was allowed to stay in the exam room during this time. All COVID protocols were being followed by all staff members. Dr. Wiley explained my dog's current heart status and prescribed increased dosages on his meds. She explained things in a very practical way without being condescending. She was super thorough and brought another doctor with her when explaining. The whole staff was always very pleasant whether on the phone, checking out or vet techs. They handled my dog very delicately too. Online submission of forms, vet records, etc. was very easy. Will be taking my sweet little one back for follow up visits. One note on pricing. I have been to many vets, on the west coast and east coast and their prices are not dramatically different than other vet hospitals. I have been comparing labs and other routine costs. This is only my opinion, so I know others have had differing experiences. I hope that they found care that they needed for their little ones. I am grateful for the positive experience I had at Blue Pearl yesterday. read more

The staff is extremely rude at this Location. From the front desk to the techs. I work in health care and if I spoke to clients or family members unprofessionally I would be reprimanded. Unfortunately, this is the closest 24 hours to my place which is why I come here. However, that will no longer be the case. There is 1 veterinarian overnight, which is clearly not sufficient to adequately see pets in a timely matter. The wait is automatically 3 plus hours upon check in and any emergencies that come through the door bump anyone waiting already 3 hours. Imagine, your pet in pain but not dying, having to wait through that ordeal because the 1 vet is busying dealing with the emergencies that walk through the door. It would be nice if there was at least 1 other vet to see the pets not acute. I understand that not every dog is acute but still needs to be seen in an emergency setting because of pain as the owners wait for the next day or the weekend before the primary vet can see the pets. Blue Pearl is not the place to take yours pets for pain managemen, nausea, vomiting or sudden onset of inability to walk. Your pets are not treated in a timely manner. Now if your pet was mauled, in an accident or dead, then this place would be ideal. It is unfortunate that pets pain is overlooked. read more

Had my cat here under emergency situation, they destroyed his urethra, made me move him to my vet asap, then when another blockage they had created told me there was nothing they could do as they "the emergency vet" did not have a surgeon on staff! My vets and their recommended surgeon saved my cats life. Blue Pearl was negligent and did not give the care that was needed. Will NEVER go to them again, they do not care about your pets! read more

If I could give it a negative star I would. So yesterday I brought my Morkie in because he slipped and hurt his left back leg. in the midst of that his penis was extended for a long period of time and I became frantic. I called them because in my mind it's an emergency. I was charged $230 for the upfront fee then I got an estimate from the doctor for $850. she told me he needs to do xray, that was $330. Then the medication added before they even know what's wrong with my dog. I found that crazy but I was so frantic I said ok. The final bill came and it was $958 they have added another $130 to review the X-ray. They take advantage of people who love their pet and vulnerable. It's a disgrace. The service as far as the front desk was great they were helpful and nice, but that about all I can say that was positive with this place. My dog has a cyst that has been growing so I decided to take her in to see how much it would cost to have it removed. After spending $170.00 for a consultation visit that lasted approx 5 min I was quoted a price of almost $6000.00 After I made it clear that I could not afford that they made a series of deductions which lowered the final price to about $4000.00 I choose not to do it there and contacted several other places, which I was quoted prices from $300.00 to $700.00 I finally settled on a place that was close to me in Queens, NY and got a price of $400.00 for the same level of procedure as in Blue Pearl. As to how Blue Pearl can even ask for such a large amount of money for something that I have learned is routine is beyond me. Thanks for reading a honest review. read more

My dog's name is Amber. She is currently almost 9 years old. She is a very witty Shiba inu who has a strong mind and gentle heart. I brought Amber to this hospital twice during "emergency hour" times. This review might not be as helpful because I don't particularly remember which veterinarian I had spoke to, but regardless it should give you a good sense on why I had given NYCVS one star. The first visit was due to a limping leg and the occasional heavy breathing we heard from her as she slept. We had gone in for a second because Amber had thrown up twice earlier that day. These visits occurred sometime within the same year, around 4 to 5 months apart. Both times, I was very happy with their customer service. Both times, a female veterinarian who seemed to know what she was talking about attended to Amber. Both times I was told that Amber was completely healthy and there was nothing to worry about. So why did I give them only one star? Probably around 2 months prior to the first visit, I had noticed a mass growing on Amber's breast. After doing my own research, I came to the conclusion that it was most likely a mammary gland. During the first visit, I had ask the veterinarian about the tumor. She indeed conformed to me that it was a mammary tumor, however, there was nothing to worry about. At the time, the tumor was only around the size of 2 nickels. During the second visit, the mammary tumor grew to a size slightly smaller than a ping pong ball. When I asked about what I should do about the tumor, the veterinarian had once again informed be that there was nothing to worry about. It had been 6 months since her last visit to NYCVS. Because of their examination costs (which were around $200 during emergency hours), I decided to bring Amber to Astoria VG. Her tumor had exponentially grown in the last two weeks. During that visit, I had learned many things about Amber's current condition. The first was that Amber has luxating patellas. This was cause of her spontaneous limping leg. The second was that Amber was diagnosed with lung cancer. Cancer that had developed from the untreated mammary tumor. I was informed from the veterinarian from AVG that she only had a couple months to live. Never did a veterinarian from NYCVS suggest it was the right procedure to test whether or not Amber's mammary tumor was cancer. Not once did they inform us about the side effects or ultimate outcomes that can come from having mammary cancer. Amber now has difficultly breathing while sleeping. Her eyes are always constantly tearing. Due to her lost of appetite; she had lost around 3 pounds. It might be time for her to go. I writing this review to inform you that NYCVS is not a reliable clinic to go to. I know that this may not be the case for everyone because every situation is circumstantial. However, I would personally rather have an animal hospital that has horrible customer service than a veterinarian that doesn't know, nor properly diagnoses a dog. read more

As with any Blue Pearl the location is quite a bit a ways from anywhere convenient. I love the doctor specialist I saw here. Dr. Cistola. Incredibly friendly, professional and compassionate. However, they're seldom timely seeing you at your scheduled time, the procedures you drop your animal off for are way too long and they milk the time you have your pet there. Incredibly expensive to the point of ridiculousness. They always try and get you to do simple things like basic blood work there when it's marked up at least three times as much as a regular vet. I get they're considered a specialist but come on. A blood test is a blood test. My last visit there I dropped my cat off for an aspirate biopsy. When they called to say he was ready to be picked up they said all was fine and went well and he was doing great. Within an hour I was there and I then waited a further hour for them to give me my pet. No one would talk to me or answer questions. I had to threaten police action multiple times. I had already paid too. When they finally brought my cat out he was beyond stressed out. They said he got finicky when they took the IV stint and catheter out and freaked out so they had to sedate him, etc. so wtf happened within 55 minutes of the phone call??? I thought you said he was ready to go and fine? If the catheter was still in he isn't ready to go. Of course he's finicky, you've had him there the entire morning and day with no food. He's away from me and you refuse to bring him to me. No wonder he's had enough. It took months for him to get over the stress of this visit. Like every single other vet or hospital in NYC, they are only out for your money. They may not mistreat or abuse your pet but they certainly don't care. It's all about manipulating your compassion for your pet to squeeze every last penny they can from you. Also these facilities during covid are out of control with their rules. It's all cuz they don't want to have to deal with anyone. I can't go in by myself, vaccinated, with a mask on but the pizza guy can come in with no mask over and over. I spent a fortune there and couldn't even use the bathroom. I saw too they won't let you in when your pet needs to be put down. Not even an exception for that. Can you imagine? The lack of compassion is astounding. Like I said, it's all so they don't have to face you. I bet they wouldn't have held my cat hostage if I was inside the facility. I'd say steer clear but when you need a specialist they are reputable and they do deliver. And again, the doctor I dealt with was great. Aside from that, they're all the same. read more

This review is for Doctor Christine Iacovetta. I came in this morning with my Chinese Crested female dog because she's been acting very unusual. I described all the symptoms to the vet but she didn't seem to listen or pay attention to what I was saying. She came up with a diagnosis that didn't make any sense at all. I suspect she didn't know what's going on with my dog and decided that it's better to tell me something instead of nothing. Im left confused and dissatisfied with the vet's incompetence. We Brought our dog here after we was attacked and bitten. The staff was helpful and accommodating. The facilities look very clean . This is basically a city MD for dogs. We had a great experience and they were able to quickly evaluate and treat our boy. He was a fan of the staff which made everything easier. Overall this was a best case scenario for us given the circumstances. Would definitely recommend! read more

As so many on here have said, this is just a money-hungry business. The vets seem to have been trained to frighten pet owners as much as possible to extort as much cash as possible out of them. After paying more than $5000 and not having received a diagnosis, we brought our terrified cat home (with a letter than warned us that, without a diagnosis, who knew what was next...). Another strike against them -- the cats and dogs are in tiny cages all crowded in the same area. The sound of barking dogs desperate to get out of the tiny cages keeps the cats in a state of terrified exhaustion. I wouldn't dream of going back to this place. read more

All day my westie has had bloody projectile diarrhea and vomiting. We waited it out to see if he felt better but he only got worse. By the time we decided he needed to visit a vet, his vet was already closed. I have heard about BluePearl and decided it was urgent enough that we should visit. When we arrived they were very quick to attend us, we let them know that last month he has Giardia and was scheduled for a check-up. These were the same symptoms as last month so we assumed it was Giardia. They did a blood work and X-Rays, they did not check for Giardia. They wanted to keep him over night yet did not say what was the cause of his symptoms. I will say, our veterinarian Dr. Chase, was very reassuring. The only thing I will say that I do not like is the fact that I spent over 1,000 in vet bills for no one to tell me what was wrong with my dog. If you decide to take your pet here, please make sure you know what to say. I was preoccupied with knowing what was wrong with him that I forgot to ask why aren't you testing for different things. read more

My little baby was having increased amounts of drooling and had developed an upper respiratory infection. We brought him here and were so happy he was in good hands. We left him overnight and never felt so comfortable with someone else watching him. The vets are amazing and explained everything to us in detail. He's now home and back to himself (almost, still sneezing a little). But is eating, using his litter box and sitting in the window watching the birds. Also, I'm not sure why this place doesn't have a 5 star rating on here ?!? My opinion it should have 10+. Thank you for caring for our little man!! read more

I've heard great things about this place, and all the good things they do for animals. About 3 weeks ago my downstairs neighbors moved out and abandoned their cat and left him behind. I knew it was their cat as I've lived here for 19 years and knew what the cat looked like. They used to let it go outside but was mainly an indoor cat very sweet, and friendly. I hadn't seen the cat for a while until I came home one evening and there he was outside my door in bad shape. He was clearly sick..one eye was shut...could barely walk, so I took it in because it was cold outside and I felt bad. I had him In my home for a week and realized he was only getting worse..he couldn't control his bladder..so I reached out to to this place as I had heard good things. WELL..I explained to the girl the situation, and she was absolutely rude and had 0 remorse or any compassion. Before I could even finish explaining she told me well..maybe your neighbors will come back for him. This poor cat was thrown out it had already been a week. NO ONE was coming back for this cat. He was essentially suffering and dying and she told me there was nothing they can do because it's a liability on their end if the person comes back for the cat. I couldn't believe it. This heartless human being told me it would be $500 to have the cat put down and $800 if I want the ashes as if it was my pet. I was just trying to do the right thing and this "person" to put it nicely told me they wouldn't take him. You guys may have the right intentions but I highly doubt it after this experience. It's all about the $! I guess the neighbors who ditched the cat wouldn't come back if I was charged! Scammers! Check your employees! I'm still sick about this situation weeks later. Hence the review! Unfortunately the only time we need to use BluePearl is for an emergency and well, usually they don't end well. But each time we've had an emergency they treated us and our pet with the utmost speed and respect. Even when we brought in a stray cat that I had accidentally hit they treated him with care and kindness. People complain about the cost but we know it is costly to have a pet and it is more costly to have the ability to go to the vet anytime day or night. We are so very grateful to have BluePearl not too far from us. read more

At around 10:00pm last night, on a pouring rain, my husband & I brought a dog here for emergency treatment barely breathing. Fast back tract: Coming home from work exactly a week ago today, February 16, 2012... I chance upon a dog as I got off the Limited Q58 bus, in the intersection of Junction & Corona, walking with an elderly couple & 2 children whom I thought was their family pet. As I was ready to open the gates I noticed the dog has followed me home. Not knowing what to do I called my son Ron and he came with a crate, pets food and wee wee pad. Meanwhile I made some posters, and placed it on Corona Ave. & Junction Blvd. I then went online and started a massive search for the dogs owner, Craigslist, Lost & Found websites etc. I liked the dog but it would be impossible to keep as we have a cat who was so terrified of her and literally stayed in my daughters room upstairs for the whole time. I walk the dog around the area where I initially saw her hoping to find the owner, to no avail. Yesterday she started panting for breath and the hissing got worst. I called my son who gave me a vets # but was closed, It was Sunday and was late in the night. then I went to the internet and got a number in Forest hills. We got her inside the emergency facility and was met by the one of the staff & ER supervisor where she was hauled in immediately. We were told she had a Heat stroke & had a Pre-existing condition. She also had a chip and was able to track the owner who came rushing in. This morning I was heartbroken when I learned she just passed away moments before I called. I only had her for a week but she made such an impact that touch me to the core. A happy and pleasant dog who gave us joy for a week. Her name was Lillybell and was only 2 years old. To me she will always be Sofie...RIP Sofie. This 24 hour facility is God sent!! Where can you find an emergency for Dogs & Cats who is well staff and open 24/7. Hands off to Micheal the ER supervisor who was very helpful and caring. The costs is not cheap and they are willing to work out a plan for payment. It's nice to know that facilities like these existed at least I would know immediately where to go if my cat suffers a need for emergency care. read more

So I called because I was concerned about my dog that just had surgery. It was about 11 pm on a Monday, my Vet was already closed and they were the only 24 hour vet I found. Kaitlyn couldn't have been more helpful. She was so though-rough in her advice and her details about what I could expect. She covered every base and told me exactly what to look out for. Beware. I had a very bad experience here twice. My cat passed away during a routine check-up with the cardiologist in Dec 2012. I took him in to monitor his heart, that morning he was eating and behaving normally. I regret to this day that I took him there. My Mom brought her dog for tests..the poor dog got home that day and started having horrible seizures which she never had before. After a couple months of suffering we had to put her to sleep .I really wonder how many people this happened to because I found out that lousy doctor is no longer there...and its true what I read in the reviews...they try to talk you into different tests. I have no complaints with Bluepearl, my complaint relates to Dr Mark Levy DVM. In a few words he was a freaking disaster and caused my dog, my wife and I ten weeks of unnecessary hell. A summary of our experience follows with a detailed account after that. 5 yr old 120 lb male Rottweiler (Oso) long history of congenital hip dysplasia (CHD) diagnosed at 5 months of age. At that time and a few other times during the next 4.5 yrs we had him into see orthopedic vets. Since he was able to walk the specialist in NJ, who we have a high opinion of, said do not do the surgery unless absolutely necessary. Oso's situation changed while we were spending the winter in Tampa and he had an episode of acute pain that could not be controlled with analgesics. We went into the ER of the hospital (in Tampa) Dr Levy was practicing at the time. The ER doc diagnosed him with "wind up" pain secondary to his CHD. We saw their orthopedic vet, Dr Mark Levy the following day and he recommended a total hip replacement. Oso had a total left hip replacement performed by Dr Mark Levy. Multiple times during the postop course we informed Dr Levy of concerns and that we believed our dog was having problems (and thus that there might be an issue with the surgical sight) he minimized our concerns. At 10 weeks postop our dog developed excruciating pain and could not be made comfortable, we brought him back to FVS where an x-ray demonstrated the cup in the hip had moved. Later we found out that not only had the cup moved, but the joint had subluxed as well, two major complications. We ended up taking our dog to AVS in Orlando where we saw a Dr Jeff Peck. Dr Peck did a surgical revision, almost as extensive as the first procedure. The difference between the first postop recovery and what we went through with Dr Peck were as different as night and day, as different as Florida and NYC water. My issues with Dr Levy: Dr Levy took over 5 hrs to do the first surgery, afterward we were told everything went fine and that there were no problems or complications intraop, aside from a minor femoral fracture, which was clearly iatrogenic. After the surgery Levy told us that he was relocating to NY in a few weeks, he failed to mention that fact prior to the surgery! Dr Peck took less than 2.5 hrs. After the first surgery Oso could not walk on his surgical leg; Levy assured us that Oso was fine. When Oso whined or cried, Dr Levy minimized stating that Oso was a "whiner", a "big baby", to paraphrase "all Rottweiler's are complainers". After Dr Levy's surgery it took weeks before Oso was bearing his full weight on the leg consistently. He never walked without a limp. I had to use a sling to support Oso for about 6 weeks, after that I used the sling as a "safety net". After Dr Peck? He was walking and urinating with full weight on the surgical leg the day we picked him up! On postop day 1 it was difficult to see any limp. Post op day 1, I used the sling, but I did not need to support Oso, it was purely a safety issue. When Oso developed significant swelling and redness of the surgical extremity after Levy's surgery, he minimized it and prescribed antibiotics. Around week 8.5 Oso started going at the surgical hip (licking and gnawing), Levy blamed the sutures and Oso. At 9 weeks or so we noted that the limp was not improving. When we point this out to the board certified rehab DVM, she informed us that Oso should not be limping at this point and had us see Levy. Levy examined Oso and took an x-ray and told us Oso was fine and to stop using the sling. A week later Oso was diagnosed with a dislodge cup and a subluxation of the femoral head, two serious complications that required surgical revision. Levy was no longer in Tampa, but was in NY. My wife and I were extremely careful with Oso never leaving him alone during the first several weeks. We placed padding all over the apartment and avoiding socializing him or allowing him to interact during the entire 10 weeks. He did not slip and I always had the sling on him as much as humanly possible until Levy told me not to use it. Oso underwent 10 weeks of unnecessary postop recovery. During that time he experienced significant pain on numerous occasions. My wife and I underwent 10 weeks of agony, emotional stress, and time away from other more pleasurable life experiences. Levy seriously misjudged my dog and his pain tolerances. Failed to diagnose Oso's complications in a timely manner causing the aforementioned pain and suffering and ultimately Oso had to undergo a second surgery due to Levy's negligence. I believe he failed to properly inform us preop (i.e. moving to NY during post op period), his initial surgery was not properly performed, I believe that he lacked empathy that he failed to diagnose Oso's multiple complications. He is terrible! read more

Avoid at all cost! Don't go here unless it's a life or death situation (seriously) that would be the only way I would returned voluntarily to this clinic. I brought my pet to Blue Pearl after he had mutilated his tail post injury. My experience at Blue Pearl was stressful, unpleasant, and disappointing. First the staff: The only pleasant person was the receptionist. The vet and vet techs were so rude and condescending. They're only concerned with payment and will literally leave you helpless otherwise. Second the service: horrendous and extremely overpriced. It would be one thing if I was paying for great treatment but I paid hundreds for subpar service that left me worse off. Specifically, they gave me pain medication for two days only! Despite knowing a holiday would come up and it would be damn near impossible for me to find an available vet (period but especially during 4th of July). When my dog ran out of pain meds I called and told them it would be days before a vet could squeeze us in and asked if his pain meds could be refilled. I was rudely told no and that if I wanted the pain medication I would have to return for another consultation (despite mine being 2 days ago) and get another prescription whixh would set me back a total of a few hundred bucks. Definitely not the place to seek compassion or true care for pets. Save yourself the trouble and the cost. read more

They kept her 2 nights but couldn't find anything specific. They presented me with a bill for several thousand dollars. I took her to my local vet and he diagnosed a severe ear infection. it is very expensive but was great with my smokie when she had 2 emergencies. however, i was very angry when a homeless family went with a obviously very sick pup they found to get help for him. he came up to me with those sad eyes licked me i had gloves to help. i remember the front desk told them they were a for profit care facility. it was the middle of the night. had i had the money i would have paid i was the only one there at the time i went up to them and said can you reject this baby look at him. this was the summer of 2017. i will never ever forget him nor there inhumanity. read more

If I could rate this place no stars I would but it has to have at least one for the review to be posted. I would like to warn everyone not to go to this place if you actually care about your animal. I was on vacation in a Cali while my dog got terminally ill. The dog was sent to this hospital and they wouldn't start treatment until I flew back and dropped 12k (Which was paid as soon as i got there. Payment over the phone apparently wasn't acceptable. They only accept cash or money orders) I not only had to come home early, but i had to watch my pet suffer helplessly through FaceTime which absolutely broke my heart. My dog laid there literary dying since they refused to start treatment until i got there. The staff here wasn't empathetic towards anything going on. I was referred to NYC Vet Specialist by my vet for my dog to have surgery done. I must say all the faculty staff I'd encountered was very friendly and professional. They were very informative and had great follow up. The doctor would call periodically to let me know when the surgery was completed and how the surgery went over the phone. The facilities was very clean and had a very welcoming feeling. The only thing I must say is that they are very pricey and the full amount must be paid in full the day of. I did not expect the bill to become that much. They charge for everything down to the tools they use for the surgery. So if you decide to bring your pet here, like they say for American Express credit card, "don't leave home without it" cause you're gonna need it. read more

The only thing I didn't like that because of covid you can't step into the place & they wouldn't treat her until a payment was made. All I can say is that they have no bedside manners and only care about money. 2 weeks and I spent close to 5000 for evaluations/tests/diagnosis and 1 overnight stay. They are SO expensive and justify for many reasons. Understand that they have specialists and are 24 hr care but this is Highway robbery. Robbing you and having no bedside manner. At least be sympathetic as our pets are out family. As far as their services, they do so many tests which costs so much money instead of ruling things out one by one as when you go To a doctor. The tech had the nerve to tell me people spend 10,000 and the care.com Program and that most people find the money for their dogs. There is a doctor that seemed a little better, Dr. Redbirn, but I would not recommend this place unless you are wealthy and don't care about bedside manners. read more

I have never been more disgusted than with my experience this evening at Blue Pearl in Forest Hills. After fighting with the ASPCA for 2 hours about their botched neuter of my dog they agreed to let me go here for emergency follow up. I stood on the street for over an hour after they told me they would take my dog in within 5 minutes - but I would have to wait 3 hours for treatment. They never took him in, they made everyone stand outside like a homeless population even though their waiting room was more than spacious to allow for social distancing. When I called from outside to ask to speak to a manager they repeatedly hung up on me. I now have to take my dog to my own vet in the morning at my own expense. They have the gall to call themselves an emergency facility -they are a joke. I wouldn't take my goldfish here in the future. read more

NYC Vet Specialists is an excellent place for emergencies. I've brought my animals here for things ranging to a broken foot to an eye infection. Doctors: The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They will call you to check in, email you a copy of your discharge work, and make sure you have all of your questions answered. The Cost: They are honest about their prices (everything costs more there so they can keep it open 24 hours) and they will tell you what you can have done somewhere else for a better price. They give you a low to high estimate so you know what you are facing and they are willing to work with you in terms of payment. I wish I could make them my regular vet, but unfortunately they only do emergencies and referrals. Cons: The parking can be hard during the day. Meter parking is limited to 2 hours and spaces are limited. You might have to walk a little bit. It is much better at night though. They also have a garage located right next door if you want to pay. read more

I am giving them three stars, but I'm torn about it. If your pet is having a serious emergency and there's no where else to bring them, then bring them here. My cat had a urinary blockage and the vets at Blue Pearl saved his life and took very good care of him. I am extremely grateful for that. However, it was ridiculously expensive. It seems like everything here is priced way above market rate. So, I would not recommend using them for anything other than a life-threatening emergency. Even routine things like cat food are extremely overpriced. I have also not had good experience with their customer service when trying to deal with them regarding anything other than the one emergency. read more

In August my dog was diagnosed with two torn cruciate ligaments. Our regular vet recommended that we consult with Blue Pearl to learn more about surgery options. We were able to get an appointment right away with the surgeon - Dr. Levy, who went through multiple options varying in price. He explained things very well and answered any questions we had. Because we had pet insurance which covered 90%, we were able to go with the recommended and less invasive route - arthroscopic TTA surgery - which would amount to a total of about $16,000 for both legs. The facilities themselves are very clean, the staff is super friendly and Dr. Levy was fantastic. He communicated with us before and after each of her (2) surgeries and answered any questions we had. We were able to call and get an update any time we wanted while she was hospitalized, which definitely helped ease our mind. There's no doubt that Blue Pearl is expensive - it's a 24 hour veterinary hospital. I definitely recommend getting pet insurance for your pets, as it really allows you to get the best care for your pet, without having to stress out about the cost. We were very impressed with the facilities and service we received and highly recommend Dr. Levy and Blue Pearl. read more

I'm really kind of shocked by all the negative reviews on Yelp about this facility. We have unfortunately had to go here twice late at night and both times had extremely pleasant experiences (on the other hand, we did also go to their Manhattan facility when we lived in Manhattan and didn't have quite as great an experience, albeit not a bad one). Both times that we have been here, the doctors were very courteous. They also actually encouraged us against expensive tests & procedures that they didn't think were truly necessary (even though we have pet insurance). The consultation fee is reasonable considering it's emergency care. The drugs are also in-line with what you'd pay at a normal vet (the drug my dog needed this weekend was $12). In terms of the facilities themselves, they are very clean, pleasant & spacious. All in all, I'm extremely happy & fortunate to have this place in the neighborhood. The team there has treated us & our dog very well on both visits. I hope you never have to go here, but if you do, rest assured it's a great place & they will take excellent care of your pet. read more

I brought my 7 yrs old lab over here because a tick bite we found on my dog's neck, we were extra nervous due to my dog lameness for the past week as well, we were scared if he caught any tick born disease, we came in at 3pm and didnt get checked until 5pm which i understand this is a urgent care facility, they will check your pet depends on how critical the condition is, i have to say thank you to Dr. Lucy Chou, not only she is so patient and nice to explain all the circumstances but also she decided to charged us a significant lower price for visit. My girlfriend's dog needed to have an operation and while we're grateful that the doctors did what they could, this place charged us $10k for the operation, medications, and the one night overnight stay. Our dog contracted pneumonia after the procedure and she was very roughly handled when she was discharged - all of which smacks of malpractice. I can't even be grateful because I consider this place predatory at this point. They were pushing for more tests, more overnight stays just to get more money out of us. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be compensated but a comparable operation at other facilities in Manhattan and New Jersey was slated to cost $1k-$2k but these people just gouged us without even trying to negotiate. I'm not sure how we're going to pay at this point and are considering legal options. read more

My cat is still in care at Blue Pearl, but our experience over the last few days has been downright amazing. I was greeted immediately on walking in, and we were seen right away. I was definitely not expecting that we had such a major emergency, but if you have an emergency this is the place to be. The doctors have all been amazing with communication and explaining what our options are, helping me make an informed decision. My cat has actually had to be transferred to the Blue Pearl in Midtown, but they have coordinated the entire thing, making so much less stress for me in a very tough situation. The front desk staff, the technicians, and the doctors have all been incredible so far. Yes, this has been an exceedingly costly experience due to the nature of his emergency. However, I feel very comfortable with his level of care and that is what matters to me in an emergency situation. I look forward to continuing my Blue Pearl experience and know that they will keep taking great care of us! read more

I've always been weary of emergency vet locations due to their seemingly always terrible reviews (in Queens anyway). Upon entering, I was sent to one of the triage rooms and was approached by a Vet Tech. I really wish i remembered her name, just so I can tell you to avoid her at all costs or maybe because she made no influence during my visit (time of my visit was ~10pm-11pm March 19th). She immediately told me, in a condescending manner (without me asking) that it's very expensive here and that if it's not an emergency to go visit my primary vet instead. She continues to ramble on, "just to see the vet is $150". At this point, she wasn't even friendly to begin with, and now i was immediately being discriminated because maybe i looked young and could not afford the prices??? I really I believe in "cutting to the chase" but at least shake my hand, introduce yourself and pretend to enjoy your job (geez). (Uhh FYI, I work for a Fortune 50 global investment bank and look professional during the day and yeah i admit, dress like a raggedy hipster by night which goes to show you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.). Anyway, without losing my temper because I was desperate to save my child dog who happened to have an Ear Infection, i was greeted by Dr. Gabriela Canales. I'm so glad i stayed and didn't just walk out because not only are Dr.Canales' bedside manners unbelievably welcoming and nuturing, she also knows her stuff, guided me through the process, guided me through the prices, the diagnoses and possible solutions to help my dog. Because of her, my visit at BluePearl is recommendable to friends and family. The reason to my 3 star rating: Positive: -Dr. Gabriela Canales -The location is clean, has water and coffee Negative: -Judgemental Vet tech -$150 cost for emergency visits, but i guess fair since it's a 24 hour clinc. read more
