NYC Veterinary Specialists have a wonderful, caring staff. I found out last month when I had to take kitty in late at night when he was under the weather. Their examination was thorough and I felt comfortable with them handling my cat. The fact that it's so close to where I live is a HUGE plus! The facility was clean and well equipped as an animal hospital should be. The doctors handling Virgil's case were patient explaining everything to me and answering all my questions; they did not rush anything. If you should have to take your pet in for an emergency (heaven forbid!), this is a good place to go. read more

We had a great experience at Blue Pearl, and have spoken with many others who shared the same feelings - even if the outcome wasn't what they'd hoped. I'd like to start by saying that I understand a lot of these reviews, especially the negative, are based on cost. I'll dive into details bc in this emergency I was looking for all the details and answers I could get while we waited, but if you just want the summary - I trust no one more than the vet team at Blue Pearl with the care of our cat. Although cost is very important, I wish there were more reviews strictly about the care. Emergency medical care, for humans or for pets, is very expensive. When we initially brought our cat in we did not have an option, we were turned away at the regular vet because the situation was too severe (I will spare you all the gruesome details). As we were sitting in the waiting room I started to scroll through reviews and initially panicked because I saw so many negative reviews - after really looking through, most negative reviews were really just about the cost. We spent weeks at Blue Pearl with our pet staying in the ICU for a week, then transferred over into internal medicine for additional in-patient stay. We spent countless days and hours in the waiting room. I witnessed many people who received a free consult and explained that the situation did not appear to be an emergency, and that it might be better to see their family vet where the cost would be significantly less. However Blue Pearl was always willing to take the pet in. We were always given a high and a low estimate before any care was provided to ensure we were comfortable with the cost. When things looked grim and the costs were adding up to be exorbitant, we were sat down our options were explained. Everything was very clear. They did everything possible to save our baby, and they did! It took many days, many doctors, nurses, full time round the clock care until we were able to bring her home. We have her home now and it's still a slow recovery process but we are so thankful for every single person - from the front desk staff that allowed us to visit at 2am, to the doctors who performed surgery I did not know was even possible on a small cat, and the nurses who cared for her like she was their own. I am sorry that anyone has to bring their pet into an emergency care facility, but I feel confident in saying that we will always return to Blue Pearl. We also learned to carry pet insurance from this experience :) read more

Sushi, my 6 year old, sweet, affectionate, playful, young(ish) cat has aggressive cancer. Dr Lachowicz was the oncologist recommended to me. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Lachowicz. What a nice man. His bedside manner is truly incredible. How someone can tell you that your baby, who is looking and acting totally normal, has 6 months to live... And you still like that person? That sounds impossible. But that is exactly what Dr. Lachowicz did for me. He really, truly acted like he cared. Like an old friend that felt my pain, and wanted to help. I dont think he knows how much his kindness was (and is) appreciated. Also the staff who cared for Sushi while she had to be hospitalized were so, so, so nice. Giving me plenty of detailed updates on how she was doing. Again, so, so grateful for their kindness towards Me and Sushi during this hard time. We took an aggressive course of treatment for this cancer. An Injection Site Sarcoma. Major surgery, followed by 4 weeks of radiation, followed by chemo. We are currently in our 2nd week of radiation. Fingers crossed for my sweet baby. Only time will tell.... P.S. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE PET HEALTH INSURANCE, GET SOME ASAP! I could have never imagined my healthy, beautiful, and active kitty would get sick. But she did. With no warning. And now I am broke. Wow! If you love your pet or your animals and you don't want to be told either pay an astronomical amount of money or have your pet die, do not visit blue pearl. They will ask you to prepay or tell you if you don't pay take your dog or cat home to die, they have no ethics they hire criminals to work for them who will actually try to siphon information from you just so they can swipe your card or use your credentials without your authorization. Melissa, the criminal that they had working there the other night when I brought my dog Ollie because he was very sick, got me at a weak moment and took my Social Security number and checked the amount on my care credit without my authorization. Dr. Cho the attending doctor told me that if I didn't want her to check it I shouldn't have given her the information and that I was going to work with Melissa or else. I was told that my dog was in renal failure and I had to get a test for thousands of dollars for a Lepto test and they told me that he's probably going to die if I didn't pay over $1000 I'll take them home and they would let him die and they don't take care of sick pets for free. Dr. Cho even told me that at least I have 1000 on my care credit because there are people that didn't have $148 because they didn't have money they put their pet down. I signed an authorization for an estimate and they told me to come back in the morning. I came back in the morning and I was told that my care credit was charged without my photo ID and without my authorization, I even asked for the paper and the finance manager Mike was about to shred so he would shred the evidence. Attached is proof that not only does Blue Pearl not care about animals and could care less if they die or get sick, but they also practice credit card fraud and theft. They grossly misdiagnosed Ollie. I Took him to North Shore and the estimate for a weeks worth of care was less than one night or only a couple hours of "care" at blue pearl. Well his blood test return to normal and he's doing well, much different than a death sentence that blue pearl gave him. Stay away! Crooks and murderers!!! read more

I had to take my Brussels to Blue Pearl last night where we met Dr. Cornell. Could there possibly be a more loving and caring emergency room doctor? I doubt it..... My Brussels worsened from a pronounced limp in the morning to hardly being able to walk by the time I came home from work last night. We immediately took him to Blue Pearl after requiring their services a few years ago. During that first visit, my moms young yorkie ate a poisonous mushroom off the street. She was two small for anything invasive but they flushed her with fluids and kept her constantly monitored for two days until she "got off the mushroom high". Anyhow, I digress back to my Brussels Muggs. Upon arrival we were immediately rushed into a room and within minutes of the tech (I wish I remembered her name but I've forgotten it) who was wonderful, did his vitals and played with him. Dr. Cornell came in and immediately sat on the floor to meet him and play with him as she asked questions (sign of an EXCELLENT vet). She moved him to a new room to do a neurological exam because his history and symptoms could have been cancer, a stroke or Lyme. She literally stayed on the floor with him while examine him along with hugs and kisses to keep him calm. Muggs is a bit of a medical mystery as he does not exhibit signs of pain ever. Since he never shows signs of where pain is, he is difficult to diagnose by eye. Due to this fact, Dr. Cornell had to run about every test they give. Many people would complain about this but hey that's his personality and no one owns a crystal ball. She had to do what she had to do and I completely agreed with taking the higher end estimate for initial testing. I had that much faith in her practice, concern and professionalism. She took a lot of quality time to look at his results and images which made me feel much better that she took that extra time. She clearly and eloquently explained everything to a panicked me who could barely spell my name. She gave me all my options and I know I must have driven her crazy for about a half hour with changing options as I processed the magnitude of his needs. It was found he has bladder stones and is going to have surgery today. I feel very confident with their assessment that he required surgery today and that it would be a risk to push it off at 9 years old. I trust Dr. Cornell and wish she had a private practice. I just got off the phone from checking on him and was pleased to hear he had a good night, that the entire hospital was awed by him, were playing and carrying him around (which he loves). I will update this review once the surgery is complete. Although expensive they are worth it. UPDATE: Muggs came through surgery with flying colors and is testing comfortably at home. Dr. Astor is THE surgeon to see when you need a board certified veterinary surgeon quickly. He led me through the surgery step by step, suggested an ultrasound which would give him a better picture of the abdomen. Thank God he did. Muggs was found to have an enlarged prostate which required a biopsy. Now this was unexpected and scary because as he was neutered, this was abnormal and risked being cancer. He gave me two options. To do an aspiration or the biopsy while he was on the table. I went with straight to the biopsy as he is older and did not want to risk opening him twice. He stayed last night and besides being a bit loopy from the pain killers, he was back to his sweet, loving self! I thank God that I walked in to find such an incredible team to save my dog! read more

We arrived here around 11pm after we realized my 5 month old chihuahua had eaten a dangerously large amount of rat poison when she was unsupervised. My father and I were clearly nervous but as soon as they saw us enter, they took her straight to the back to be treated along with a sample of what she had consumed. The receptionist explained to us the process, options in case something more critical occurred and an estimate in case she needed a surgery which she thankfully did not need. Dr. Cornel attended her and was very patient and calming. She explained to us what could have happened and also her treatment which was vitamin k and was also given to us on the spot. It overall cost around $200 but it was after all emergency care. We are just thankful they were available and very happy and pleased with the treatment she received. read more

We took our shar pei Keaton to Dr. Lachowicz when Keaton was diagnosed with a recurrence of mast cell cancer about a year ago. We really appreciate Dr. L's knowledge, ability to listen and explain and the way he so gently handles Keaton. We moved to MA in July and came back for a visit but wanted Dr. L's consultation on Keaton's current treatment and the progression of the disease. We were reassured and given a solid overview as well as a suggestion for further treatment if needed even including a Chinese medication! The staff as well as was welcoming and very responsive to getting and sending updates to our local vet. read more

This place is amazing and honest. The fact that they present you with the cost and options is actually a good thing (despite other reviews). My mothers elderly cat had suddenly become sick and could not walk and they saw him right away. As an elderly cat they discovered two issues. One was an infection (which was the suspected cause of his problems) and the other was a small mass that could be potentially cancerous. We were able to make the decision to treat the infection which was making him sick. The mass we can deal will later if needed. Being presented with the options first by an extremely supportive, understanding and competent vet, Dr. Melissa King-Smith, was the correct approach. A huge thank you to everyone there. Honestly, reading the one star reviews is infuriating after receiving amazing treatment, both for my moms cat and to my family. read more

It is very regrettable to me that Blue Pearl is the only emergency vet in Queens. An a pearl it is not! My experience with Blue Pearl has been a nightmare. Out of 4 cats that have been brought to their practice over the years none have survived the visit. However for me there is no choice as I am disabled and have no car. The very worst part of it all is their price gouging. Probably not because they need to but because of the fact they know they can, as they have people between a rock and a hard place and at a very vulnerable moment. However what adds even more insult to injury with no empathy on Blue Pearl's part is that they don't even think of how to make payment of their astronomical bills easier to pay. I have a CareCredit card which allows from 6 months up to 2 years interest free. Yet when I asked if on a $5000 bill to get 1 or 2 years interest free, I was told Blue Pearl only has a 6 month agreement. Seriously, what is Blue Pearl's problem! Have they no feeling? No Empathy at all?! At the pricing of their services which is 2 to 10 times the cost of a regular veterinarian, they should have an agreement with CareCredit for up to 2 years interest free. It's no skin off their back! They are still being paid! However giving the client this choice lessens their hurt, sorrow about the illness, suffering or loss of their pet and the hardship of the bill that is left to pay. read more

I can't even believe how insensitive they are. I called at 6:30am and the receptionist or whoever she is told me the ER VET would be there after 8 I made what I thought was an APPOINTMENT for 9:30. My cat had been vomiting and not eating for several days. I cat my cat in the carrier, which is not easy, I get there, relieved because there was no one in the waiting room. She fake listens to what was wrong AGAIN and after I fill out the paperwork tells me it's at least a five hour wait. I can sit there or call she said "you call us we won't call you. We have emergency pets ahead of you". How is my cat not an emergency? I also saw her roll her eyes on the phone while some woman who was desperate to know about her pet was asking questions. I said you told me I had an appointment. She said we don't take appointments. I said my cat could be dying, she said well we only have one doctor so you can wait here. I get that you're short staffed, but why didn't you say that?? I had an amazing experience at the Blue Pearl in Manhattan. This one is horrible. I wouldn't take my cat here if you paid me. I can completely understand why some people have given this place very low ratings. It is pricey. I took my dog to her regular vet back in July and was told that if she didn't get better I'd have to bring her to BluePearl. I hesitated and held off for a while because of the ratings and because of the expense. However, I had to put all of that aside because my dog's nose started to bleed heavily. Ash, the vet tech, was really nice. Dr. Stanton was AMAZING. Her bedside manner gets this place 5 stars. She took the time to try and figure out what was wrong with my dog. Honestly speaking, giving this horrific hospital a 1 Star is because it's the only option. This hospital deserves ZERO STARS! My 3 year old dog was full of life, in a matter of minutes he blew up and looked like a puffer, we didn't know what to do as we never experience this nor did my dog showed any kind of underlaying issues. To start it off, we went to the animal hospital on Queens Blvd, the nurses there said they couldn't do much since he needed to stay overnight and they had no overnight doctor to go to BluePearl. I called and the receptionist seem to not care whatsoever. The nurse explained to her what she was seeing and BluePearls receptionist said well if it needs surgery your wait time is 3-4 hours and as I was explaining to her that I don't know I just want my dog to be seen and be told what's going on, she proceeded to hang up on me. I called again and another receptionist told me to bring him in quick. We rush over and they took my poor dog in. About an hour later, the doctor tells us he is filled up with air but doesn't know what's wrong only way is to take X-rays, right now he's on oxygen and he will try to remove some air and not sure his possibilities of not dying and recommended he should stay overnight to be looked at with care. We said okay and they proceeded with giving us a bill of $6k. We didn't have that at the moment so he then gave us a bill for $1k for just X-rays. The nurse told us to apply for care credit.. sadly we didn't get accepted, as we tried to collect some money to get somewhere. 2 hours later, they suggested we go to another hospital and who can give a payment plan. We spoke to the tech nurse, Melany. She told us that the medicine can sedate him and let him sleep until we take him to our primary vet cause us siting here isn't doing nothing and had an attitude. MA'AM THIS IS YOUR JOB IN HELPING POOR PETS FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES! So that meant my dog was in there not even being treated but in a cage waiting to get any treatment. Mind you all those hours we didn't get no update on how he was doing, if the swelling went down or not. I asked how he was doing and that's when she said "I'm looking at him, he's looking at me. He's stable, he's wagging his tail" so we had nothing left then to pay for the visit and some medication. As we waited for my poor dog to get discharged, when they brought him out he looked worse than how we brought him in. My brother lost it because how are you not even trying to help a poor dog, just leaving them there to suffer until money is brought to the table. VERY INHUMAN! I then spoke to DR.FICO (might be misspelled) and he looked like he didn't even care that we were trying to fight for our dogs life trying our best. I told him exactly what he told me and called me a liar that he never said he was going to try to remove some air and walked away. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! My mother was able to pay for the X-rays and they did he X-rays for them to tell us that the see something in his lung but can't do anything that he would require tubing and another scan but that's more $$. MONEY HUNGRY VETERINARY ! I asked our options and he said paying for the surgery and risking he passes on his way to the procedure, during or after, we can go and take the risk, or put him to sleep. As much as it hurt our souls because we should've NEVER TAKEN HIM TO THIS HORRIFYING HOSPITAL, we sadly had to put him to sleep. As we waited to be called in I read so many bad review about this location and I was just so shocked at how inhuman they truly are. Money speaks for them and if there's nothing on the table then they just let these poor animals fighting for their lives to get worst and slowly die. I'd give them negative stars if I could. Avoid this place at all cost there are better veterinary services in the area for less cost. My 3 months-old kitten was wobbly, vommiting, and struggling to breathe. I brought him to a local doctor who sent me to BluePearl. BluePearl doctors said the symptoms and blood test suggests renal failure. But they could not "determine the underlying cause" and insisted that they take 3 shots of chest x-rays because he was struggling to breathe. You google "what is the cause of renal failure in cats" and it says the most common cause is "POISON." I asked the doctors many times for the cause they said they would not know unless they have performed all tests. Their initial estimates were $4599 for 3 chest x-rays, blood gas test, blood test, ultrasound, urinalysis, hospitalization, "nursing care," injections, fluid therapy, and anything else they can charge me for. Again, I google poisoning in cats and the disagnosis is azotemia, hyperkalemia, and renal failire, which is 100% identical to the vet's diagnosis provided in the discharge summary. It is hard for me to believe that the vet truly did not know this. They said they needed 3 x-rays to see the chest because he was struggling to breathe and hospitalize him over night. The doctors here are incompetent and unethical. The doctor said they need more tests to see if fluid therapy would help or harm my pet but they had already proceeded with fluid therapy and charged me for it(?). They even made a "mistake" on the invoice for 300 dollar extra. If I had not reviewed it I could've paid even more. Very unprofessional AND shady. So I requested estimates for the useless procedures that they had already performed, which totalled $1000 including fluid therapy, injections, blood gas test, blood test, and consultation where they only discussed money) Then I went to another vet. He saw the symptoms and immediately detetmined that the cause was most likely toxin. He said he would do ultrasound to see if it was in fact toxin and if it can be treated, only then he would proceed to fluid therapy. He did not need all the tests mentioned above that were said to be absolutely necessary by BluePearl. The ultrasound revealed otherwise and the kitten had to be put to sleep...His bill totaled $500. (And even gave me discounts). As you can see here, BluePearl does not care about your pet and does not qualify to care for your pet. They will take your money and leave you with empty wallet and a dying pet. I regret taking my pet here and I am sorry that I did because it caused my kitten to suffer longer. I hope there's a special place for BluePearl in hell. read more

We had a really great experience with Dr. Verna Serra when we brought our 16 year old poodle in last week at 2am. The facility is super clean and comfortable. She explained all our options to my wife and I and didn't push us in one direction or another. She explained the pros and cons of each option. She showed us the X-rays that indicated why our little old man had to be put down. And she showed us another dog's X-ray as a comparison so we could se what 'normal' was. She gave us all the time we needed to make the decision we were most comfortable with. Then she gave us lots of time to visit with our little Tiger until we were ready for her to come administer the euthanasia. And, she let us stay with him for as long as we wanted once he was gone. It was kind of expensive (and we're on a budget), but it was a lovely environment for us to say goodbye to our baby in. read more

I wish there was an option for negative zero stars. Please do not go here for an emergency. This place is not honest and will price gouge and price inflate a bill to their advantage and not yours. The mistake I made aside from going here was letting them know that my sick pet was an emotional support animal, this disclosed to them that I was disabled and I felt that they priced gouged me even more. Then after my pet was released from BluePearl, I found out the standard of care that was received was negligent and I was heartbroken because he suffered. They stopped a critical medication for my young cat that I was informed was critical for him and that he must remain on. Blue Pearl gave my cat this critical medication briefly while with them, then stopped his critical medication before his discharge and did not inform me of this critical medication, or my critical need to give it to him. I brought my pet to Blue Pearl to treat a critical urinary unblock and my pet was given the critical medication while with Blue Pearl very briefly, it was stopped I was informed by an expert to encourage another urinary blockage again. Blue Pearl is not the place for professionals and veterinarians that truly care for animals. When I brought this information to Blue Pearl's attention when disputing their inflated bill and stating my dissatisfaction with services, charges, and the standard of care of my cat, I was told that their medical negligence of my cat regarding his medication will be sent to their medical review team. Despite their negligence, which I reported to the state and informed them, BLUE PEARL STILL LEFT THEIR FULL COST INFLATED BILL OF $5,851.00 FOR ME TO PAY...COMPLETE WITH MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE! Blue Pearl will take advantage of you while you are under duress, financially exploit you and exaggerate their fees anyway even if you tell them you cannot afford what they are charging, do not want their services, or for necessary services ask them to work with you-their services are still extremely expensive in comparison to other vets. I was constantly tried to be upsold on surgery for my young cat. The vet that followed up said surgery is a last resort...he is not a good candidate...he is too young for surgery. Blue Pearl didn't want to discharge my young cat. It was stated after the medication negligence that they care about pets, I did not agree with that statement, nor will I be a repeat customer. Other vets that reviewed my charges said many of the charges were inflated, extra services, and unnecessary. I discharged my pet and continued care elsewhere with an honest vet and ethical vet. Additionally, after my pet re-experienced the same condition that was the reason for going to BluePearl, I was informed that BluePearl discontinued critical medication after discharge. It was stated that my pet needed hospitalization and monitoring, I am perplexed as to what was being monitored. Clearly, this was inflation of the bill, my family, and friends are in awe of the bill exaggeration, prices, and service charges, and staying swaying from this place. My pet was only on this critical medication while in their care. I am disputing their bill and charges. I do not expect Blue Pearl to act professionally from what I have seen and I will stay far away with my pets. BluePearl did not even inform me to get this medication. I did not even call for follow-up tests that I was charged for due to their negligence and constant upselling I do not believe anything they say. I paid for tests to be performed again for honesty, accuracy, and reliability. The follow-up vet took care of the critical situation with an honest evaluation and visit. No 48hr exaggerated hospitalization charges like BluePearl, no excessive X-rays and excessive sonograms, no excessive lab tests, no excessive hospitalization, and associated fees for a simple critical visit that can be rectified to result in a bill that resulted in thousands of dollars. Again-if you care about the health of your pet, go somewhere honest, reliable, and where the vet services are not dangerous. read more

The Forest Hills branch is listed As a place that treats animals for emergencies. Listed by all vets, yet they don't see exotics, not sure wth it is even listed by vets as an emergency ANIMAL hospital if they don't treat exotic pets. Furthermore, a few years ago when i tried to take my cat in, they insisted on all manner of tests to treat and diagnose. My cat was 20. There was no way she would have tolerated these tests. Not only that, but they charged for the tests and the diagnoses separately, specialists rates being higher of course; the fees were insane. The tests alone came out to well over $500. Again, my girl was 20 and had a vet, but it was after hours. All she needed was fluids, the blood work had been done elsewhere. She was at the point were there were no more treatments to save her, all that could be done was to alleviate her symptoms. They saw my love for her and tried to use it to gouge me. Not to mention that the receptionist was a condescending b!@#. Only reason i called again this month was because my bird was very sick, again after hours. But, this place managed to disappoint me once more. My advice is to avoid this place. Take your pet to a real veterinary hospital, at least there you will see veterinary professionals who will speak to you with respect and show your beloved pet more love and consideration. read more

If I can give this negative stars I would! We took my blocked cat here because it was referred by our vet. We put our trust in blue pearl because of how highly our vet talked about them and the reviews. They told us that he was going to be in great care and the procedure they were going to take to fix my cat which was to insert a catheter sutured to him for at least 24 hours so that the debris and what not can clear up. My cat was able to push out the catheter in less than 24 hours which means that they didn't suture tight enough . Than they call us and tell us " you can come visit tiger because he is doing much better." We go visit him and he was literally straining to pee the WHOLE ENTIRE time just going back and forth between the litter boxes. They kept him for three days there and charged us a little over $2,000. The following day he was discharged from the hospital. After bringing Tiger home , he was never normal. His appetite wasn't there, he struggled to pee , and he had blood spots in his pee. We called blue pearl and told them the situation and they told us " it was normal , he's just healing." Of course , we believe in the words of the professionals. Two days after that I come home from work to see Tiger laying down and just pee all over the floor. He was urinating on himself with pee dripping and blood from his pee hole. I had called blue pearl and they said to bring him in . At this point I was so fed up with blue pearl because throughout the whole week there were hints that Tiger was clearly not okay. I bring him to Central Valley vet associates despite the reviews and they said he was blocked again. I had to dish out another $4,000 to have him unblocked. The reason that he was blocked the second time was due to mucus build up and blood clots which would not have happened if blue pearl treated my cat properly. This place may be "high-tech" and all but they clearly don't know what they are doing and they don't take your precious animal(s) seriously. A blocked cat does not cost $6,000. DON'T GO THERE!!!!!! Terrible place!!!!!!! I was recommended by vet to visit a specific doctor, Dr. Seltzer. We waited 3 months to see the doctor and upon our arrival we had to wait 1 hour and then they shows us a prefixed bill ($620) with out seeing our dogs condition. We explained what's going with his leg and they insist on looking into his ear and doing test even though they confirmed that his ear doesn't have anything to do with his leg condition. He's been leaking fluid and itchy with a swollen leg. We have stated that we've seen 2 other vets and had test done on his ears already knowing what's going on. Dr. Seltzer preforms test on his ear despite the fact that we already have results moving forward she takes our dog for 45 minutes waiting and comes back with a bill of additional $735 with out analyzing his foot. No treatment no idea just no thought other than charging us $1,335 and says she need to run more test aside from this charge. We didn't agree to her doing those test that she perform and we asked for it to be removed from the bill being that we had those results and she got mad and basically kicked us out of the office. I don't think this is professional, Do you? I wouldn't go there ever again and I would advice anyone to go there. It's highway robbery from the front door. They were amazing to my 10 year old chihuahua paco. Paco had collapsed and we preformed cpr. By the grace of god she was back but still had trouble breathing. We took her BluePearl and she stayed for 24 hours. My paco after everything came home smiling. It will be a long journey as she has CHF but I am so happy with the way they handled my sweet little girl. They gave me updated every 3 hours and reassured me in good spirits. The only bad part is the pricing but it is definitely worth it. I just feel bad for people who do not have the funds immediately but overall they are a great pet hospital read more

I used to come here over the years with my parents' dog and I can see how the place went down the hill. This review is about my most recent visit with a new kitten. I just picked him up and knew the kitten needed antibiotics as soon as possible but couldn't find a vet who was open or willing to see us last minute on a Saturday afternoon. The visit that would cost $50 at the regular vet resulting at getting the kitten some oral antibiotics, cost me $360 and this was the low end. They recommended XRays, blood work and all kind of testing totaling $1500. The kitten was alert, perky, lungs clear, normal temperature, normal heart and respiratory rate (had puss in his eyes and some nasal discharge). The doctor showed no compassion and had judgmental attitude asking me why the kitten was not vaccinated (I picked him up few hours ago and had appointment with my vet scheduled on Tuesday, but saw he needed to be treated). They told me they were giving me antibiotic eye drops (I had to ask for them, the doctor only care about more testing), then brought out an ointment I already had at home and charged me $56 for an ointment that cost $20 and doesn't need Rx. I hope I am never in a situation that requires me to come here. I will start looking now for alternatives. Shame on you, BluePearl-Queens. You only care about overcharging and recommending expensive unnecessary testing. read more

If you're looking for an emergency vet to bring your pet this is DEF NOT the place. I brought my dog in on Monday at 3:30am because she was throwing up and coughing all night and wanted to bring her in to make sure she was okay. The process was quick to check her in and we were seen right away which i guess is a good thing. So the nurse comes in and asks what is going on and i explain to her and she said maybe she has kennel cough. First of my dog has all her shots and the nurse explained that it is a possibility to still get kennel cough. Okay fine, but she asked if my dog had been around any dog park or around any other dogs recently and she wasn't. So the nurse left and the doctor came we were seen by Melissa M. King-Smith. The doctor came all COVERED UP LIKE MY DOG AND I HAD EBOLA. If you're afraid of getting something maybe being a vet is not the right occupation for you. She told me that my dog would need x ray and i said i would like an estimate before proceeding because my dog seemed fine other than coughing and throwing up, she had energy, she was aware of what was going on. So, before the doctor left she took off her " protective" cover up and threw it in the floor right in front of us. I'm sorry where the hell are your manners and who the hell gave you your degree because you don't deserve it. After she left the nurse came in and gave me an estimate of $715 dollars i said it's fine i would take my dog to her regular vet first thing in the morning and the nurse was nice she said your dog seems fine but if it's gets worse you can still come in but she should be fine. In the meantime i was waiting to get the medication from them and the doctor came in and opened the door not even half way just a little bit she opened the door enough to give me the medication because she didn't want to catch kennel cough from my dog which dogs can't transmit that to humans. But i guess her going to school didn't make her smart enough. Then she proceeded to tell me that she can't shake my hand because i might be infected and i said with what exactly?? This is an EMERGENCY place for pets for a reason not for freaking doctors to be scared of catching something from a pet. This isn't a human and she didn't have rabies. So disgusted with their service. Maybe if i had another doctor it would have been a better review. They need to start putting doctors on call who actually care for pets and who are willing to do anything and everything to save them not scared for getting something that can't be transmitted from dogs to human. I went to my vet the next day and they weren't afraid to touch or came in protective clothing. They didn't even think she had kennel cough. They did X-ray and everything was fine it is JUST ALLERGIES MY DOG has. Also, the doctor told me they would need to do x ray to see if she has kennel cough and my regular vet told me you can't check for kennel cough through x ray it's from a different procedure. Blue Pear please put vets who are aware of what they're doing because if you keep putting vets like Melissa M. King-Smith the pets will not be cared for. So disgusted with her and the place. BY THE WAY YOU CAN LET MELISSA M. KING-SMITH KNOW MY DOG DID NOT HAVE KENNEL COUGH. I hope you guys can get better people for your staff. These are NOT just animals. This place might be just another money maker to the workers and owners but to US pet lovers is a place where we need to make sure our pets are safe and well taken care of. Horrendous $$$$$$. And boy, you'd better pay up front or doggie and kitty dies. 'Sorry for your loss (Not).' Their prices are way, way over the regular vet. This said, if it's an emergency, they have a hospital setting with an ICU, IV, feeding tube, the works. Open 24/7. Just be forewarned. I've found it's either money or encouraging the owner to put the animal to sleep. No middle ground. Kitty had an internal growth that ruptured. Rushed him there at night. They had the gall, after I told them in plain language I don't believe in putting down human or animal, to debate with me. "I brought kitty here to live, not for you to kill him!" I snarled. Okay. Fine. They kept him. Next morning, they call me and tell me about cutting kitty open to see what's wrong inside. Seems the only way they can fix it. ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) I called my regular vet who was now open. "You want my opinion?" sez he. "I have a feeling that cat's going to die right on the operating table. Don't cut. 'Cure the problem, kill the patient.'" Took kitty out of there, brought him to our vet. He hydrated him, tried to get him to eat. He wouldn't. After some hot prayers, we took him home. First thing that cat did was look for his food dish. He lived another 6 months. Hello. He was 15 years old. Be very careful of this place. If I worshiped both money and death, I'd tell you not to trust me either. read more

This is the cleanest, most efficiently run animal hospital I have ever had to visit, and I've owned pets for over thirty years in multiple neighborhoods. Not only that, it is staffed with highly knowledgeable, compassionate people, from the front desk to the techs and assistants to the doctors. I never for a minute doubted that my dog was receiving the best possible care. They are also incredibly sensitive to the financial realities of pet care in emergency situations, and helped me to set up a care credit account and then worked within my limits. Dr. Redfern has been so amazing and has done daily check-ins to get updates on my dogs health and answers all my questions I have. I never needed an emergency vet before. Always had an indoor cat. Now I have 3. Would hear about BluePearl and keep them in the back of my mind. Well they came through in an emergency!! I thought it was something my fur baby ate and got stuck bc he was throwing up for a day or so and then not eating even his treats so I knew it was time. From the time I called to the time I picked up jack. They lived up to the hyp!! They we friendly,informative,but most of all compassionate towards my fur baby jack!! Especially Dr kuripet. I rushed in last night after my dog started bleeding from his nose and they we're nothing but helpful we have just rescued this dog and we've already become so attached to him they really put us at ease and they treated him amazingly we had just come from a different emergency clinic where the doctor looked to scared to touch my dog he didn't even try to look at him but blue pearl was amazing they helped us understand what was going on and what the future steps we needed to do we really can't thank them enough read more

Our sweet pup started having trouble breathing a few days ago. It became very bad right around 6pm, when all the vets closed, so BluePearl was the only place open nearby. It turned out to be a collapsed trachea, much more serious than we thought, and they immediately rushed her to triage in the back. We didn't have to wait too long to see a doctor, who braced us for the worst. We were obviously very upset but they walked us through every possible outcome, answered all of our questions, gave advice about pet insurance, and gave us details about what to expect from their communication as they kept her overnight (the waiting was agonizing, but no news was good news!!). I think we interacted in person and via phone with nearly everyone working on both shifts and couldn't have asked for kinder, more patient people. Thankfully our dog responded well to treatment and she was able to come home the next day!! She was brought out good as new and sedated for the car ride home by Michael, who was just lovely and took great care to walk us through the medications she'd need to recover and answer all of our questions. The price is, as other reviews say, very steep, and I'm hoping that pet insurance will reimburse most of it. But we received really wonderful care and are so grateful to the team at BluePearl for saving our pup's life!! read more

Avoid this place if you can. I had a terrible experience at Blue Pearl, and am not the only one. I came by with my cat pretty recently. She was having ongoing treatments by doctors, but it was late and she was suddenly unstable. I called this location prior, to see if they were the closest location to me, and the receptionist couldnt/wouldnt tell me, so I had to figure it out. I called back and them know why I was coming, and though it was a slow night, there was still a lot of confusion regarding why I was there, and then issues on their end receiving the medical records I sent via email, so they could treat her comprehensively. After they took her in, I waited outside, and my phone's battery was low. They wouldn't charge it for me or let me in. I had to find a place to do so after midnight, which turned out to be 10 minutes away. They finally stabilized her, for which I am grateful for, but the doctor let me know she should be euthanized on the spot. I knew her time was very near (and again, had doctors I was working with), but after the experience there, there was no way I was ever going to do that with them. She told me that I was "very selfish" and that was the last straw. I quickly made the walk back to pick my cat up and get her out of there. It was a really nasty experience and I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Go to VERG, find another place and keep it on hand so you dont have to deal with this type of thing during a difficult time!! read more

I took great care in choosing our primary care veterinarian. However, when it comes to emergencies, typically there isn't that luxury. I trusted my Veterinarian would only be affiliated with a quality emergency service. I wasn't disappointed. They have assisted in caring for everything from captured strays, to house pets: cat and dog. I've had to deal with varied issues from elderly dying , animal attack and general severe sickness. Each was treated to the best of expectations. Each time they were exceptionally caring, expedient and knowledgeable. They extended themselves in many ways. The costs are reasonable for 24hr emergency service. read more

I brought my cat in severe medical distress. They took him back immediately and started treatment within moments of my arrival. Scooter didn't make it, but BluePearl made every effort they could to figure out the issue and try to fix it. The staff was unbelievable, kind and compassionate to this blubbering 6'4" amid an emotional breakdown. They kept me informed, didn't provide false hope, and let me make the decisions as they came along. In one of my worst moments, they were the best. read more

If I can give no stars I would My dog, Kiwi, has diabetes for about six months and we've been going to numerous veterinarians to work on getting him better. In time we noticed his case was only getting worse and were told we should see a specialist. We were told a good place to start would be Blue Pearl Vet and to see Dr. Adam Eatroff to see what he can do to help him. We met with Dr. Adam and he examines Kiwi. The Doctor tells us that we need to lower the insulin level which may be too high for Kiwi as of current (making him more sick). He said that we need to lower it and be consistent with it. We paid $1500 for the visit (just for the blood work and a check-up) and followed the doctors orders for 1 month. After the month was over, the symptoms remained the same. We called Dr. Adam and he said we'd have to perform a "curve," (a test of the blood for sugar levels every 2 hours for approximately 1 day) as this is the only way to proceed at this time. He informed us that the curve would cost a little over $400. I told him that we got a second opinion from a second vet who told us that the curve would cost $80. At this point i've already paid approximately $5K towards Kiwi's medical needs in the last couple of months and I couldn't afford a $400 curve (especially given the fact that a curve needs to be performed on multiple occasions...it's not a one time deal). So I asked Dr. Adam to kindly fill in the other vet with Kiwi's medical records so we could perform the curve at the new vet and then we'd bring the results back to Blue Pearl Vet for further exaimination. Dr Adam agrees and we perform the curve. The results are horrible and the new vet told me to raise the insulin because it's too low. We do this and still no change. In the interim i'm calling Dr. Adam for days only to find no response. I leave multiple messages at the Blue Pearl Vet only to be told he was on vacation and that he'd call me back when he returns (what kind of response is that?!?!). I consistently tried to call him and never heard back from him. So we perform another curve only to find out that the insulin is still too low and we need to raise the insulin once more. We decide to try contacting Dr. Adam once more before raising the insulin again because we wanted a specialists opinion. For approximately a one week period we try to contact Dr. Adam and we don't hear anything from him. Eventually he calls us and we explain to him the situation and that we need his expertise. His response is " why don't you do whatever Kurt (the other doctor) told you to do." So I told him nicely that we agreed I'd do the curve at Kurt because I couldn't afford to perform the curve at Blue Pearl Vet and that he would obtain the results and work with us based on Kurt's results of the curve exam. Now he said "No, go do it with Dr. Kurt." He didn't care to help us and was more occupied with arguing with everything we said then actually caring for my dogs well being. It's obvious that Blue Pearl Vet and Dr. Adam ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY. They don't care about the animals at all. He told me to "MAKE AN APPOINTMENT" to come into his office. I'm speaking to him on the phone, why would I call to make an appointment?!?! So he can charge me for stepping through the doors of the Blue Pearl Vet center?? A complete and utter scam. To top it all off, my dog has a gull-bladder issue and Dr. Adam prescribed him pills which were soon to finish. I told Dr. Adam that I need him to fill a new script for the pills and his response was "Why don't you go get it from Kurt!" THIS IS INEXCUSABLE. THERE IS NO REASON FOR SUCH BEHAVIOR OR SERVICE. He is a vet and should care about the well being of ALL animals. I'm sorry I can't afford your prices but you have to work with me. I wasn't asking for any handouts and I most certainly don't need anyone giving me attitude when all I'm doing is trying to care for my sick and ailing dog. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. They're bad for your animals and they're just going to clean your bank account and cause you more stress. STREER CLEAR AT ALL COSTS! read more

This is a money-hungry, heartless mega store where you can easily sucked into doing all kinds of unnecessary tests. But the worst is the manager who works there. I learned his name is Michael from a person who had the same experience with this jerk. He is the most condescending, rude person I've ever met. My husband and I spent nearly 4 hours at the vet. We were stressed out and tired. We were waiting for our dog to come out of ultrasound (which now I regret why i got sucked into doing it. What a waste of additional $710). Woman at the reception gave me a bill that made no sense. First, she asked us if we paid $604 bill from 2 days ago. How is it possible she didn't know? Then there were extra items in the bill. She couldn't explain the bill. After going back and forth, finally a man, Michael, came out from the back office and looked at the bill. He looked at the bill and couldn't explain either. He said he didn't charge for Xray but it was listed in the bill. Finally he basically said "this is the bill. You just need to pay up". We became very upset. We wanted to know why there were extra charges. When we demanded explanations, he said he would call the police. He was so rude! I was in tears. There was woman listening to this whole thing and said "I think his name is Michael. I also had a terrible experience with him". I just wanted to get the hell out of there at that point. I paid over $700 and asked for my dog. Finally someone else came out from the back office with my dog. How heartless is this place? It felt like my dog was held as hostage and I had no choice but to pay whatever was in the bill. I asked Michael for his card but he never gave to me. I also asked for all the paperwork including the original estimate but he only gave me the invoice. This has been the worst experience. I don't care how clean and wonderful facility is. If I could rate it less than one star, I would. Before reading my review, if I could get anything through to fellow animal lovers/owners, this clinic overcharged me to the point where I had to get a loan. Please look elsewhere for medical pet services. This is a Long review, so be prepared. My yorkie came in as a reference from my regular vet and said that this place was highly recommendable. My 7-lb, male yorkie struggled to pass urine and could barely walk. After paying $300 at my vet's to try and pass a catheter and xray, he told me to go to Blue Pearl ASAP to get treated for bladder stones. I get to Blue Pearl and they took their own Radiograph and blood tests at $350. They told me they were able to get a catheter in and empty his bladder. Fastforward now to the point where my dog has to get surgery. They tell me he has about 8-9 pea-sized stones in his bladder and one MAY be in his urethra. I kiss my pup and off he goes to the OR and I leave a deposit. I get home and I receive a phone call stating that there IS in fact a stone lodged in his urethra and that another procedure (extra $$$) would have to be done along with the regular cystotomy if they can't push it out by cannula. My question was how did they get a catheter in to relieve him of his urine initially, to which the Doc on the phone just kept assuring me that they would try their best. A very Long and emotional story short, we were left with a bill of $8,858.10. This was dated in March of 2016. Fastforward to May of 2016, our Yorkie is showing us the same exact symptoms and this time, with seizures. All these tests were done at Blue Pearl yet no follow up or information was given to us. No callback with results. Nothing. We take our dog to Lefferts Animal Clinic where they determine through x-ray that there is a large stone stuck in his urethra and that his bladder is filled with debris. The stone did not develop that quick in a matter of weeks. In two months, this poor little guy has gone two major surgeries and cut up in three places. The cost of Lefferts? $1800.00 total- for the exact same surgery INCLUDING the urethrostomy. Living in Queens, NY, middle-class folk, this money was basically our savings. Writing this review makes me cringe and feel all sorts of unmentionable feelings. I hope our story changes your mind about this place. read more

Never again! Not ever. I brought my very sick dog in today as her vet recommended and all they did were tests (that could be and have been done in my vet's office) and charged me a ridiculous amount. I am floored at the cost. They basically said they could not see what was wrong with her and gave me antibiotics for an infection (which I could have gotten from my vet). This place is all about money. The only two people that showed my dog any compassion was the receptionist and one of the veterinarian assistants. All the so called "professionals" were very cold and we're only interested in racking up the bill. All of this while my dog bambino lay in excruciating pain.
