I can't say enough nice things about them. My dobe ripped a nail completely off while playing & running in the yard with his 35 pound rescue sister. The wound bled lots & while I bandaged it, it kept bleeding. I'm a nurse but we were worried. He was taken back immediately & kept for about 10 minutes for observation. It had stopped bleeding on the trip there. We live in Long Island and went all the way to Forest Hills because of our prior positive experience with Blue Pearl. They are commensurate professionals & take great care of the pets brought there. read more

Our 2 year old cat inherited bad hips and one was fractured. We decided to have bilateral hip replacement performed (rather than FHO). One side was done in July, and the other in August. Dr Levy is the main vet that I communicated with. He is a no nonsense kind of guy, which could be off putting to some, but I was very happy with both surgeries he performed and that is most important. During testing prior to deciding on surgery, Blue Pearl noticed a heart murmur / heart issue that our normal vet in Jackson Heights had completely missed. Dr Singletary examined our kitty and gave him approval to undergo surgery as long as precautions were taken with anesthesia. Needless to say, I've been a somewhat frequent visitor between the surgeries/follow-ups and each interaction has been pleasant and I feel they've taken amazing care of our youngest family member and will continue to do so. read more

Be careful when you bring your pet here! They will recommend the options that bring them in the most $$$, regardless if there are cheaper, less stressful, and more sensible options! I brought my dog in multiple times due to really bad vomiting & diarrhea and each time they recommended an overnight stay, IV, blood panels, X-rays, ultrasounds, etc. I ended up paying them thousands. They said she probably has Inflammatory Bowel Disease and may need a steroid regiment. It turns she had a lot of allergies (beef, soy, carrots, potatoes, etc), including ingredients in the "hypoallergenic" food they told me to give her. Not once did they (or my old vet, that's another review) suggest a simple $200 allergy test which my current vet told me to do within 5 minutes of my first visit. It seems they were either incompetent or content with me bringing her in at midnight whenever she got a flare up and taking a couple thousand each visit. A simple change of food and she's been doing great. read more

They're AWFUL, INCOMPETENT AND CARELESS. DO NOT take your pets here. The doctor prescriptions got my dog into kidney failure, when we tried to contact her she NEVER replied back! No doctor from the hospital ever called back or could answer simple questions regarding the treatment. Their careless and neglectful treatment got our beloved pet in critical condition and now only a miracle can save her. They were never available to answer our questions, or monitor our pets health during treatment. My dog's health deteriorated so fast over the weekend and she never replied! No other doctor wanted to interfere with the heart treatment, so we never got a satisfactory answer in a timely manner. My dog was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and immediately put on treatment under Dr. Singletary's "care". As she explained us the risks of the medicines, she mentioned it might cause loss of appetite, vomit and might damage her kidney, so we asked some prescriptions in case this happened (appetite stimulant or something to help) but she wanted to "wait and see" until next lab work. When our dog stopped eating altogether, we tried to reach her immediatel,y MANY times, and not just her but ANY other doctor at blue pearl who could help us deal with the side effects as our dog keeps vomiting the heart medicine! It's been now 3 days since we try to contact her, and she hasn't gotten back to us yet. Blue Pearl keeps saying she's not an "on call" doctor the on call doctors won't answer any questions regarding my dogs treatment. They need someone to help their patients, especially for cardiology, since conditions can worsen really fast if not treated. You can't just leave your patients hanging there, Dr Singletary, especially after a lot of money has been paid for hospitalization, ICU, diagnose and treatment. Blue Pearl`s answer is always "bring your dog to the emergency" but you guys are letting the dog get to the point of needing emergency if you're UNABLE to anticipate side effects and just in general unable get back to your patients in a timely manner! Shame on you! I regret not taking our dog to AMC. Although a bit more expensive, at least their doctors would call us on a daily basis to know how our other dog was doing, and were always responsive if something was wrong, even on weekends or holidays they always called back a few hours after depending on the severity of the case. Having our dog with a chronic heart problem was already tough, not to mention the added stress from just trying to get answers from Dr. Singletary and the Blue Pearl staff! Beyond disappointed. Our previously healthy 14 year old cat had an episode where he lost bladder/bowl control. We called our vet who recommended Blue Pearl. We brought him in and it looked like a reasonable place.They checked him and and told us they had to do diagnostics on him. Over the next three days they called multiple times telling us that they had to do additional test and asked if we would authorize them. The costs rose quickly. By Day 3, the costs were over $7,000! They told us that he was having small strokes and recommended several medications. We told them that we couldn't continue to pay for additional tests. They discharged him to us and when we picked him up, he was completely stressed, with tons of dandruff and he was absolutely starving!! He ate three chicken breasts when we got him home in a way that suggested to me that he hadn't been fed. Within an hour he had another episode and then proceeded to have multiple episodes within the first day home. We called our vet to come and put him to sleep because he was suffering. Our vet suggested that he was having seizures (not strokes) and suggested that we put him on anti-convulsants. We got the anti-convulsant meds and started him on them, but he was still having seizures, so we scheduled a time to put him down. By, the time the vet got to our place, he was doing better and we couldn't catch him! Turns out that Blue Pearl completely misdiagnosed him with mini-strokes instead of seizures. So, not only were we out over $7,000, but we didn't even have a correct diagnosis or course of treatment. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

My kitty had a bad tummy ache on both ends and Blue Pearl helped her tremendously. My cat was puking a bunch and had trouble going to the bathroom so bad she was crying. And this was at 6 AM on a Sunday, when her regular vet won't open until 9AM on Monday. We worked with Dr. Williams. In the intake, she was very knowledgable and logical on discussing the problems, and gave us a good summary of treatment protocols based on the intensity of the problem. I was worried my cat was experiencing changes in her kidneys and Dr. Williams was very patient and sympathetic in hearing out my concerns. They were professional and empathetic and had just the right amount of humor for bringing your cat in for having pooping problems. You stay with your animal in a front room talking to the vet techs/vets about the problem first and then your animal goes into the hospital part for the diagnostic tests. I'm not sure if you can go with your pet. After the testing, we were given results quickly (about a half hour), the bloodwork was explained to us and we got to see the XRays on the screen. This place is an emergency room. Its $150 to walk in the door but you have to think of this place as NYU or Lenox Hill hospital for animals. You can walk in but I called so they knew to expect us. The customer care agent at the front desk and the vet were both up front about the costs involved and they seem comparable for emergency treatment. You are given an estimate after the intake. My cat had stomach problems and I was concerned it was kidney related. So we did XRays and blood work, which both seemed necessary. It didn't seem they were trying to push anything extensive in diagnostic testing. The whole visit took about 2 hours and my cat is recovering very well. Let's be real. If you are going here it is an emergency, you will pay for quick tests, immediate care, etc. They may be busy and need to figure out how to determine what pets need immediate attention, just like a human emergency room, so you may wait. My experience here was as good as it could be given my situtation with my sick, 17 year old cat. They thoroughly explained every test, the results, all options and potential outcomes. Kindly repeating themselves several time for me and working up many quotes to assist in my decision. I felt they spent an excellent amount if time with us. Both the tech and vet were fantastic and so kind sharing their shifts so I could assure I returned to familar faces with my girl. I didn't feel shamed by my decision or my ability as a pet parent like I have felt elsewhere. They transferred information to my vet and remembered us when we came back. I wish I would have read these reviews before visiting this specialist. I was referred to Dr. Seltzer by Blue Pearl in Brooklyn after I took my dog in for an emergency visit for hip issues. My experience at the Brooklyn location was satisfactory. I was a little hesitant to see a specialist but my dog has had skin issues for years and I thought this would be the end of our skin issues. The vet we saw was Dr. Seltzer and she was not empathetic with my 12 year old arthritic dog. Every other vet I have ever seen gets down to eye level with my dogs and tries to make them feel comfortable, Dr. Seltzer was not happy about getting down to treat my dog, who has Arthritis! Besides bad manners This vet kept taking samples without consulting me first. I don't mind paying a big bill if the results will help my dog, but I want to be consulted first. Long story short, this specialist did nothing different from our regular vet so I was disappointed. $700 later I felt like I was ripped off and robbed, nothing was solved and the service from the vet was unacceptable for a place that charges $180 just to walk through the door. Again, I don't mind paying, I just didn't feel like they really cared and nothing was solved. The Dr. Never even came out to talk to us and give us our discharge papers!! And the discharge papers had ANOTHER pets name, which means they don't pay attention to details... Not okay. The vet assistant was very nice and if it wasn't for her I would have had a bigger fit. Bottom Line: They are cold, try to push unnecessary procedures, and thousands of dollars of unnecessary tests. They only care about money and use your love for your pet and emotions against you. So glad we got a second opinion. Unfortunately they are the only 24hr emergency pet vet nearby. This place pushed really hard for us to put our cat to sleep and we were in such an emotional state that we were thinking about it, to put her out of her misery since we would not be able to afford the $10,000 surgery they said she would need or she would die... Luckily we took her home to spend one last night with her and glad we did because they next day she started to get better and now she is back to regular health, no thanks to Blue Pearl who wanted to kill her. My experience with them, is our cat had a pretty serious kidney stone blockage that put her in critical condition. Right away they wanted to put her on $2300 of IV treatment. We opted out because we wanted to wait and get the ultrasound results back first because she did end up peeing from being so scared and the urine was cloudy. She hadn't peed or pooped for a couple days before this. When we were trying to decide to jump the gun and go ahead and start treating her, we were asking the vet tech questions about the treatments and why she needed another urinalysis when we had just got one yesterday at our vets office. Every time we asked a question, she rudely sighed and said "thats the prices that are set", not answering our actual question at all. I told her I understand the prices are set, but that she wasn't answering my questions on why she needed certain treatments. She sighed again. Extremely rude and insensitive vet techs. After the tests came back, they told us we would have to get a $10,000 surgery in order to save her and when we said that we didn't have that, they told us the other choice was to put her down and they were keen to do it right then. They were pushing it on us. I understand she was in pain, but this was so sudden and no way would we put her to sleep at that horrible place and give them any more money. So we took her home for one last night with her and was going to see our actual vet the next day. Well the good news is that we did not need to put her to sleep because our brave 2 year old cat passed the stone on her own. So glad that we trusted our gut and did not listen to a word those horrible people had to say. They were trying to put a recovering cat to sleep. I would not trust them with your pet unless you needed immediate care and make sure to ask questions! Do not let them push you into unnecessary treatment. read more

What any amazing team of professionals! I couldn't have found a better Veterinary Hospital yesterday when my normally healthy senior pet (dog) fell ill. I called the veterinarian in Howard Beach who I have been using for 13 year for my 2 dogs but they had no available appointments, they said I could bring her but had no idea how long await it would be. Concerned for my pet, I called Bluepearl in forest hills who immediately and compassionately said of course bring her right in. In less than 5 minutes we were seen, after the the initial intake by a lovely knowledgeable tech. Then Dr. Roccio was in the exam room with us in less than 5 minutes after her intake. Correctly diagnosed and treated my pet. Wait it gets better, I just received a call from the Vet. office following up on her condition!! I have one question, why can't all medical facilities (animals and people) be as good as Bluepearl? Thank you Bluepearl you are awesome! 5 Star all the way! read more

I brought my 2 year old male cat in for an emergency visit. He was having littler box troubles so I was terribly worried about obstruction. When I arrived, they knew I was coming and had a room ready for us right away. In about 20 minutes I learned that there was no obstruction, but had some sort of urinary disease that is common in male cats. Vet recommended that I change him over to a canned food only diet. He was given fluids and I was sent with some medication. I think the pricing was fair. Overall, I am happy and my kitty is miles better. Will stick to my regular vet for non-emergencies! read more

Your pet will die because they do not watch them, Their intake information Is flawed so their treatment is flawed, when you call they get annoyed and they lie to you about their condition!!!!! DO NOT fall for the "you can check on your pet anytime"!!!!! We did show up and found the most horrific conditions, neglect and they wouldn't let us see our precious baby! They simply forgot he was there despite my calls, he wasn't being cared for, I had been lied to, and they tried to hide their mistakes with all sorts of excuses and last ditch efforts to save him in front of me! I still have nightmares of what I saw our baby go through and they way he died! All the fancy trimmings can't make the vets qualified, communicative or compassionate, can't make the staff truthful or diligent and it can't make the care your pet gets up to any standards you would hope for or expect. The same people who perpetrated this horror are still there so the lack of care, compassion, lack of communication and the problems still exist! They have you at your lowest point and you are willing to pay anything, do anything and believe anything they say to save your precious fur babies. It's hard for me to give this review but I feel I need to. Last week my partner and I brought our 13 yr old chihuahua trixie in. She had epilepsy all of her life but only had very mild seizures once every 3 or 4 months. Last Thursday around 10pm she started having hard seizures and couldn't walk. I was really reluctant to take her to a emg vet that we had never been to but knew she couldn't wait until morning to see her vet. The second we arrived they could tell that we had a real emergency. Within 5 min the vet was examining trixie. She was very polite and treated trixie with respect and gentleness. We decided it was time for trixie to go on epilepsy meds. They wanted to keep her over night to make sure she didn't have any reactions to the meds. We were told we could go back to see her before we left. I was in shock when I went to the back where all the animals were kept. They had about 12 people back there caring for the pets. Each pet was receiving the same respect and gentleness trixie received. I left not knowing if trixie would be okay but I left with peice of mind knowing she was in good hands. The next morning we came to get our little girl but she had more seizures so they wanted to increase her meds. This time we had a male vet. He was also very warm and genuinely concerned about Trixie. Long story short we lost our little girl that night. We were able to say goodbye knowing she had been given the best care by top professionals. I recently lost my pet to this place and they gave him meds that they thought the dog needed without really finding out what he really needed. If I were you, I would think twice in bringing your pet here. I had an emergency and thought this place could save my pet but I thought wrong. I brought in my dog that had complications of breathing and might have had a seizure but they might have missed diagnosed him and gave him meds that might have ended his life. His blood test were good and he was sedated. They should've done more test to make sure what he had and administer the correct meds but instead gave him two kinds of meds to make him wake up quicker. We spent A LOT of MONEY for a what!? They charge you so much and they couldn't even save him or diagnose him correctly. 6 hours later he stopped breathing and they told us they couldn't revive him and they don't think he'll make it. They gave two different kinds of meds that they said were mild but how much of it did they give him?? I would really love to know what happened within the 6 hours? When we asked they were unsure what it could've been. Maybe a brain injury or some sort. In order to really know they said an autopsy would need to be done. When we brought him in they didn't even say he could possibly die only that he might need meds for the rest of his life. I gave it two stars bc the ppl we interacted with were nice and the facility was clean as well. I will never bring another pet here again especially if it's an emergency nor would I recommend this place to anyone!! read more

I just brought my cat Noah home for the second time at Blue Pearl. We were there last year May 2018 for urinary blockage. Dr. Dangieri and Dr. Park were his doctors this time and they kept their promise and called me ASAP to give me updates on my Noah so I didn't have to worry about him. I did not sleep for 2 days while I waited for their phone call. I know no news is good news but still. Noah is my baby. The ICU nurse Randi was very kind too and super sweet when I called at 10 pm to check on Noah. Alanna, the vet tech who gave me the discharge package for Noah and instructions was sweet and kind too. Overall, my experience with them have been great. They took Noah in right away and they explained everything very clear upfront. I took Noah to Blue Pearl TWICE. The entire staff at the front desk were very polite and not pushy at all. The place is clean and does not smell. I know that this place has been getting a lot of negative reviews, but I just want to point something out. Veterinarians are not magicians, God, Buddha or whatever you pray to that can magically bring your pet back from death. Sometimes the inevitable happens and vets can only do so much. Losing a pet is very painful, trust me I've been there more than once. I have 2 cats that I love to death and spent thousands and thousands for their care. I promised them that I will care for them until the end. I understand that a lot of people complain that this place is very expensive but if you choose to have pets, you need to have some money set aside for their care. Emergencies happen and the reason why these places are so expensive is to keep the place running. They have to pay rent, electricity and pay their employees so you can run in there at 3 AM cause your dog or cat is ill. I went through my bill estimate and in all fairness, it was not any different than taking them to their regular vet except that Blue Pearl or any hospital needed to perform more exams and give them. proper meds. read more

I just had a very awkward experience at Blue Pearl of Forest Hills. I was given a referral by NSAL to take my cat for a sonogram. The place is beautiful and appears very upscale and professional. Unfortunately, after a ten minute exchange with a tech to start a chart. I was abandoned in "exam room #2" for another 25+ minutes. I got extremely irritated and the vet and tech felt the need to explain "how doctors offices work" by telling me how it is normal to have to wait for nearly an hour in an exam room for a vet to examine my cat. This was the fourth vet I've seen for the current illness. And what they said was untrue. Despite that, I stayed and went ahead with over $1500 worth of services, etc. Before I left, the tech explained how to administer the meds. My most upsetting issue about my cats illness was that she wasn't eating so one of the meds was to stimulate her appetite. As soon as I got home I quickly gave my cat the prescribed dose and then decided to grab my reading glasses to take a closer look at the package. I almost had a heart attack when I read that the box said 'for oral use in dogs only" When I called Blue Pearl and asked for my vet they instead put the assistant on the phone who said the medicine is okay for cats. I asked her why she didn't say something to me about the meds being labelled for dogs only. Her answer was a very flippant "if the doctor prescribed it it's fine" I was aghast, to say the least. I am also in agreement with other reviews about how money-driven this clinic is. Hopefully, otherwise, Dr. Redfern provided helpful advise. This remains to be seen. Please wish me luck and if you visit this place be ready for at least a four hour visit. Mine was from 10-2pm for blood, needle biopsy & sonogram. read more

Don't waste your time or money! My dog came in tonight for a fever and they did absolutely nothing for him as his fever had broke due to us putting a cold towel on his head and ears. His fever was 104 then by the time he got there the fever was 102. They was informed of his allergies and medications he's taking and yet somehow they gave the breakdown of labs and X-rays etc costing $1,500.00 which we then said no we will take him to his vet where he always gets his treatments. The consult alone was $210.00 for them to then just inform you what other costs they need to charge to see what the issue is when we know what the issue is and explained to them clearly his allergies and that this happened before and they gave him medication and injection before to break the fever and was fully recovered. They refuse to give him any medication for fever since they wanted to do all these labs first. So don't waste your time or money here because then they want to overcharge even for the radiologist to read the exam and check the dogs pressure they want to kill you with their fees! We've spent hundreds of dollars at our vet between visits and medications but here it's like they just over priced everything! Go to your vet instead but I came here quickly since his fever was high and yet nothing was done unless they go w the ok of $1,500.00 charges. Thanks but no Thanks, gladly will be visiting our vet tomorrow as we came here only because the vet was already closed for the day and we was told if he had a high fever take him to the ER. read more

Was skeptical and worried when i learned my pup had a perineal hernia and needed reviewed. Unfortunately it was one of the few options i had, every vet i was going to kept referring me here. I didnt want the problem to keep on since it was now about a month with him constipated, whining and not wanting to eat anymore. It was at the point where he was curled up in a ball and didnt want to be his playful happy self. I was worried he might even die if i kept looking for the "right" vet. so i took the chance. Thankfully he was in good hands with dr. Astor. He wasnt neutured so my poor baby underwent two surgeries. This was back in May and he is doing excellent alive and well. The reason im taking out a star is for the expense. Im still paying off this debt ! But guess this is the price you pay for your loving pets! read more

I took my 3.5 year old cat to Dr. Baker on the advice of my vet. He had some strange-looking spots on his iris that had gotten bigger over the last month or two. The office was very clean, the receptionist was friendly and we were seen right away. The doctor and her assistant examined my little guy and told me that most of the lesions on his eye were flat, but one was "suspicious". She told me that I didn't have to do anything right away if I didn't want to and that I could wait until November to bring him back for another exam to see if it had progressed. Dr. Baker explained the condition to me and told me about all of the risks that would be involved if it progressed and was cancerous. I was charged $170 for the office visit, which I expected based on the fact that this was a specialist and was quoted $2500 for the surgery plus the cost of a biopsy if the eye needed to be removed. They were nice enough to tell me that my regular vet could do the surgery if I preferred and it would be much less expensive. The reason for the 2-star rating is that when I took my cat to my regular vet, he recommended that we remove the eye sooner than later since his condition had progressed so far in the last couple of months and he's so young. I decided to have the eye removed at my vet. The procedure only cost me $1100 there, and when I got the biopsy results, I was glad that I stuck with my vet's opinion and not Blue Pearl's. My cat had early stage melanoma in his eye, and if I waited until November, it would have probably been too late. While the office was modern and clean, the staff was courteous and caring, I don't have confidence in their ability to make an accurate diagnosis, so I don't think I'll be going back there. read more

the vet seemed like a chill, knowledgable hipster. he was likable and the technicians were really nice. we didn't wait long outside before being ushered into a room. the entire visit was maybe 1 hour. saw the vet two times for possibly 15-20 minutes. im relieved they didn't push anything on us. i don't know if the diagnosis was accurate but they seem trustworthy. it wasn't until i got the quote for radiographs that my mind went for a spin. they were poised to charge us $750 for 6 images of radiographs, SEDATION, liquid form of antibiotic, and tons of pepsid i could easily afford for less than $10 at my local drugstore. so we chose to let our baby's symptoms resolve on their own (because i already had my supply of pepsid and antibiotic) and paid the $160 for that 20 minute consult. was it worth it? you tell me. read more

As compared to some of the other reviewers, I have had a very good experience at Blue Pearl. When I first looked into Blue Pearl, I was also concerned about these Yelp reviews. It is important to keep in mind that most people who bother to review have had either a very negative or very positive experience, and that this is an emergency vet where most dogs/cats treated will be very sick and in need of some extensive treatment. We first came here in May 2016 on Memorial Day. At a BBQ, my dog Bowie was jumped on by another dog while he was running. He suddenly let out the worst yelp I have ever heard and stopped walking. This was terrifying! We rushed Bowie home, gave him a quick bath, and took him to Blue Pearl around 9 PM. Thank god this place is open late, even on holidays. During his emergency visit, Bowie was correctly diagnosed with a torn CCL and was given pain medications. The ER vet recommended seeing our primary vet to determine further treatment. After about 3 months of conservative treatment from our vet (rest, pain medication, casting, etc.), Bowie was still limping. Our vet referred us back to Blue Pearl to see Dr. Mark Levy, because of his orthopedic and surgical specialization. Dr. Levy recommended surgery and although we were apprehensive, we eventually decided to go ahead with it. We should not have been so nervous because the surgery went so smoothly and Bowie improved within a matter of weeks. He is now back to his old self! On another occasion this past fall, we caught Bowie eating a silica gel packet around 7 AM. Again, we rushed him to Blue Pearl where the emergency vet let us know that the silica was not poisonous and that Bowie would be fine. I don't find the cost here to be that different from our primary vet (in terms of x-rays, etc.) We have insurance (Trupanion), which covers 90% of costs. Blue Pearl was extremely helpful and responsive with submitting paper work to insurance. My golden retriever was bitten by a pitbull on her routine walk. The wounds didn't appear to be serious but since they were around her eyes and pitbull is known for sharp teeth we decided to bring her to emergency that night instead of waiting overnight to see our regular vet. Front desk was nice and helpful, but the wait was ridiculous. We waited there for 1 hour 45 mins before being seen. Granted it is an emergency clinic and dogs bites weren't the most emergent, but it leaves me wondering if I would bring in my dog should a real emergency ever happen. The estimate came out at $750, which seemed high. I asked if they could cut something, so it came down to 550. The price is definitely higher than my normal vet, but I guess that's what you expect from an ER. I am giving two stars because I wasn't seeking emergency medicine that BP placed itself in the market. read more

A little more than a year ago, I took my sweet Manny to see Dr. Lachowicz who confirmed the anal gland tumor diagnosis. I opted to go the palliative route for my boy as he was already 12 years old and just could not fathom putting him through a very invasive surgery. Sadly, my boy lost the battle just a few months later, on Christmas morning. We had not expected that as just a month prior the scans showed his cancer to be essentially stable (only slight growth). He did not respond well to the meds due to his sensitive tummy and through it all, Dr. Lachowicz was available for any and all questions I had. We tried changing one of his pain meds, tried appetite stimulants, anti nausea meds. We'll never know if the cancer had spread throughout in that month or if it was sepsis, but I had to help my sweet boy go to the bridge. Dr. L and his nurses also sent a condolence card with personalized, handwritten notes about my boy. A very touching gesture. Dr. Lachowicz is kind, gentle, understanding, informative. His "bedside" manner is par none. I cannot say enough good things about him and his nurses. I pray I never need his services again, but if I do, I know we will receive excellent care. We received nothing but the best care from Dr. L and his nurses, but also from the front desk. I had to take Manny there twice as an emergency, one being his final few hours. The staff were kind and gentle and understood how difficult saying goodbye to my boy was. The doctor who administered the drugs let me have as much time with Manny as I wanted before she gave the injection and then they let me stay with him as long as I needed to after he passed. They handled my baby with care and dignity and were sensitive to how hard it was for my family and me. read more

As a new dog owner, I've been a bit overly paranoid. I first brought my dog here because I thought she had an ear infection, but I was advised that this was NOT an emergency and that I could wait to see my regular vet and was charged $0. And again recently brought my dog here because she chipped her nail and bled. Again, they advised me that this did not need to be treated by a doctor and that her nail would grow back on its own. They did clip her nails for me and charged $20. But WAY less than the $124 they would have charged me otherwise just to be seen by the doctor. Please do not take your pets here during emergencies!!! The staff is terrible, slow, bad attitude and extremely worried about money but poorly worried about getting your pets better. Is sad because there is no many other options in the NYC and Queens area for emergencies but when you take them here you must certainly might just be taking your pets to die here. Blue Pearl (Forest Hill) saved my 4 month old Shar Pei puppy Max. Dr.Lefman gave us so much hope when it came to our puppy when we had lost it, she is simply amazing and I owe it to her and the staff at blue pearl that my little boy is home with us. Yes blue pearl is a bit pricey but our doctor worked with us when it came to pricing and honestly they saved my Max and truth be told I think it was worth the money we spent if it meant my family and I get to have our puppy with us. Emergency vet care is expensive. I learned that in January of 18 when my cat raked up a huge veterinarian bill at another hospital and got insurance immediately after. Having insurance eases your mind when there is an emergency and your pet is in critical condition. I feel that this is the root of many people's negative feedback. Yes, the parking stinks, but this is Queens. When I arrived at Blue Pearl on a Sunday, it was after visiting another vet who recommended I bring him to a hospital. At BluePearl. I had a very long discussion with one vet about the best and worst case scenarios. She took a lot of time with me to answer all questions as it was all sudden. I believe she was honest and very straightforward (Ms. Chou, I believe was her name). She suspected cancer but testing had to be done. I considered bringing Hermes to another vet again, but they simply did not have the technology or on site testing to do what BluePearl could (I called). Hermes stayed overnight for more testing and while some of his levels were getting a bit better, the testing came back confirmed for lymphoma and his health was not sustainable. He wasn't feeling well and they said the prognosis was that it was far along and the cancer grows very fast. We ruled out everything and he stayed for 2 nights, 3 days and I wish this had a happy ending, but I trust that Dr. Redfern did all that she could. She was empathetic, well-spoken, and I am hopeful that she did the right thing for us. All 4 family members went to say goodbye to Hermes and she was very caring and supportive. read more

By far the best emergency veterinarian hospital I have ever visited. Not only was the office spotless, the staff was extremely friendly and immediately made me feel welcome. The doctors were very professional but also compassionate and made my worries disappear in seconds. The doctor I had the pleasure of sitting with was Dr. Jemmott, she was THE best. She came in and did a thorough check on my Yorkie, she then offered a plan, explained the costs of it and left me time to decide. Dr. Jemmott was so patient and when I decided to go through with the tests and treatment plan she was more than happy to sit beside me and explain everything in detail with a smile on her face. You can tell everyone working here has a passion for what they do and a love for pets. I'm also very surprised about people complaining about pricing because I didn't experience the same issue, however, it is an emergency vet and you should always expect any emergency room to be pricey. We have been here twice now with our dog after hours and had a very positive experience both times. The Staff: the doctors, nurses and support staff have all been thorough, patient, kind and more than willing to take the time to answer all of our questions, no matter how seemingly minor. The bill was always explained to us in detail with a "high" and "low" option (depending on which services we selected for our pup) with a printed hard copy provided to us directly for our records. We asked for the doctors' opinions each time about the best course of action and each time we felt they recommended what was best for our dog (not their wallets). The staff was also very helpful in faxing our insurance form in for us after each visit. The Facility: extremely clean; no offensive odors. Well lit comfortable waiting area and several private "patient rooms". Restroom was ok and the drinking fountain seemed clean. Fantastic that it's 24 hours and glad that our normal vet is affiliated with this hospital. We did have a long wait the first time, but the staff did inform us beforehand (there were three serious emergencies that came in just before we arrived). The Value: We like that we receive the "high" and "low" estimates for services. It allows us to discuss our options with the vets. Now, both times we came here, we did NOT have a dire emergency (i.e. serious injuries, violent illness or seizures, etc.), so the prices were not astronomical. We also liked the fact that if we chose a more conservative approach to his care, but needed to return within 24 hours for the same reason, the examination fee was waived. We felt the level of care our little mutt received was excellent for the price. I would recommend Blue Pearl to anyone who is in the area and needs urgent care for their pet. Understand though that because these are not your regular vets, you may need to pay quite a bit up front to receive urgent care. It's best to try to plan ahead for such emergencies by getting Care Credit or insurance for your pets so that when weighing the different treatments to save your furry (or feathered or scaley) friend, cost won't need to be the deciding factor. read more

Five stars for the medical service I received. No stars for the receptionist. The medical service was great. The nurse was caring, compassionate, and really loved animals. I went in for emergency service but they told me it would be more cost effective if I visited the manhattan office tomorrow to get tests done there. The nurse even made the appointment for me and then wrapped my medical records in plastic so they wouldn't get wet in the snow. Just really great service. Very clean facilities. I would have no problem leaving my cat here overnight. read more

I completely agree with Janice D's review of this Emergency Vet Office. There is nothing worse than seeing your beloved pet in pain. The staff and doctors here are phenomenal. I was panicked, scared, and crying - the staff, was calm, informative, and quick to respond. They began examining/treating my cat within seconds of my arrival. I was kept up to date and informed regarding my cats status while I was in the office and after I had left. In an emergency, the last thing you want is to also be worried about the people taking care of your pet. The money, while not cheap, was worth it to receive the best emergency care. read more

It's open 24 hours, which is crucial when you have pets, especially sickly or elderly ones. It's centrally located at 71st Road, right off of Queens Blvd, near all the trains, buses, and the taxi stop. Parking isn't fabulous over here, but there are spots to be had if you take a few minutes to circle the block. This isn't our usual practice (we see Dr. Volel at Animal Hospital of Queens Blvd), but we go here when ours is closed and we're having an animal emergency. The waiting area and exam rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable. The staff there has always been kind, patient, calm, and good about explaining the treatment options, procedures, etc. Three of our medical emergencies have unfortunately resulted in the euthanasia of our beloved pets. During those difficult times, the doctors working have always been very sympathetic, supportive of ending the animal's suffering, great at telling us exactly what will/may happen during/after the injection, and wonderful about giving us time alone with our furry friends before and after they've been put to sleep. As awful as losing a dog or cat is, I'm happy to have a reliable place that allows us to end their pain and say goodbye in a respectful, peaceful way. It's on the expensive end as far as veterinary practices go. Exam fees, procedures, medications, etc. are all very costly. I suppose this is because the office is quite modern and open 24 hours- which I don't think any other veterinary practices in the area are. They used to do a bit of a hard sell about extra exams and products- we were once offered x-rays for our cat's constipation- which I don't love. I get it, but I don't love it. As it is our emergency vet, I hope not to have to go often, or ever, but I'm definitely glad it is there should we have an issue when our regular doctor is not available. read more

We've been to BluePearl in Forest Hills with three of our pets over the past 9 years. I cannot begin to describe how grateful we are for the level of care we have received there. Two of our dogs and one of our cats have seen many of the specialists. In every instance our questions were answered, or understanding of what our pets were going through improved, and we were empowered to make informed and comfortable decisions about their care. Took my dog to this place on Sunday September 10th,2017 with the intention of giving him a quiet and comfortable death, since he was very sick. Unfortunately the person who did the procedure, an Asian woman with a rough and unfriendly attitude, abruptly applied the two injections in less than 30 seconds, even thought my dog was so weak and fragile at this point, without strength and with only six pounds of weight made such a rough movement at that moment,so strong and howl of pain followed with vomit, it was so bad he almost fell out of my arms. We were very disappointed because that was not what we had been told about the process, we were guaranteed this whole process would be without any pain for our pet. It was a very unpleasant moment for not only our dog but also for the family who was there. I would not recommend this place in the future! read more
