My 8 years old Yorkie, needed to see a doctor ASAP on a Sunday evening. Knowing that our regular veterinary clinic is not opened on Sundays, I called anyway hoping to either connect to someone or at least let me know where to go. The call redirected me to BluePearl which is who our Vet partnered with. After getting the address from the BluePearl reception that picked up our call, my boyfriend and I took Cookie there immediately. Being that BluePearl is in Forest Hills, and we live in Flushing, the drive there took about 15 mins with very little traffic (Sunday around 10/11PM), but it was probably the longest 15 minute car ride of my life. There are metered spots / street parking available in front of the clinic. As soon as we walked in and told the gentleman at the front why we were there, he took us to a room immediately and called a technician to our room. Cookie was taken in to run tests and diagnostics. We were told that the results would be out in about 30-45 mins. However, we waited closed to 2 hours before we were given the results. While we were waiting, I made the mistake of checking in on Yelp and seeing the low stars and reviews obviously worried me. I didn't know what was wrong with my baby girl and had no idea if I could even afford any treatments, even though I had already set aside money for her in case of medical emergencies (like this). We were told by the ER doctor that Cookie would likely need to be hospitalized and monitored given her conditions. They also suggested that Cookie be looked at by their Internal Medicine doctor the next day when they were on call. We were given an estimate of how much everything would come out to be, and yes it was pricey, but we agreed given we all wanted what was best for Cookie. We were also told that they would call and get in contact with our regular vet to keep him updated on what was going on. In the morning, I called to check in on Cookie, and was told the doctor would call me right back because she just stepped into the room to speak with other patients. However, we waited closed to two hours without any call backs. We called again only to find out that they had tried calling me but the number was wrong in their system and that's why they couldn't get in touch with me. She gave us an update on how Cookie was doing, options on what we can do for her, and happily obliged to call and speak with our vet regarding the situation. After many back and forth calls and other tests and diagnostics, I was very happy to find out that we could go pick up Cookie later in the afternoon. Everyone we dealt with at BluePearl was pleasant and super nice, and absolutely gentle with Cookie. We were able to see Cookie before we left for the night, and were told that we can call anytime to check on her. There was also no problem for us to go in and visit her, though it was not necessary because we found out she could be discharged the very same day we tried to visit. Even now, days after being discharged, they still have no problem answering any questions I may have in regards to Cookie and her situation. And yes, the costs were expensive, and had to be paid upfront before Cookie was hospitalized but we understand that going in because it was an emergency center after all. They were not pushy in any sense, and had suggested that we could return to our normal vet to run tests and diagnostics if we felt more comfortable with him. Also to note, we were actually credited back some money when we left the next day for services that didn't end up using. In the end, would I come back again? I sure hope not (lol), but if Cookie had another medical emergency and our regular vet was not available to see her, I would not hesitate to bring her back here. The doctors that we had the pleasure of taking care of Cookie on the second day was Dr. Redfern and Dr. Friedman. There are a few front desk stuff; not all of them are that friendly. I would say BluePearl is a vet that I trust as they have great facility, ICU, experienced doctors and it opens 24 seven. I was referred here by my regular vet (Dr. Raider) because my cat has recurring eye problems in one eye and a congenital eye abnormality in the other. The opthamologist who saw my cat explained everything about my cat's eyes in great detail, and sent me home with a written explanation of his condition as well as detailed instructions about how to care for him in the future. They didn't try to pressure me into unnecessary procedures or surgeries, but did tell me where to find over the counter eye drops to help lessen the frequency of reoccurrence. Be warned that parking in this neighborhood is a chore in the best of circumstances and leave extra time to find a space and/or walk from whatever space you're lucky enough to find. read more

Took our cat to Blue Pearl on Christmas Day. Everyone with whom we interacted was friendly and professional. What impressed me most was that the doct gave us the option to go for a very expensive surgery or do at-home medical management at a fraction of the price. That kind of honesty is invaluable and so I give this business a five star rating and would encourage pet owners to use this vet in any emergency situation. They're pricey, yes. But it's not the ASPCA, and it's open when most other vets just have an outgoing message on their voicemail system. read more

I can't say thank you enough to the staff at blue pearl. They saw my dog immediately after he was stung by a hornet and was covered with hives and had a swollen face/mouth. They treated us both with such care and compassion, it made a horrible experience much easier to handle. So glad to know if I ever have any emergency needs for my pup he'll be in good hands. This past December our beloved 9 year old Shihpoo, Joey, went from being his happy wonderful self to throwing up, shaking and being lethargic. We brought him to Blue Pearl Emergency Care in Manhattan (near Union Square) where he was diagnosed with Leptospirosis, a life threatening bacterial infection that is apparently on the rise in downtown NYC, Brooklyn. Previously it was mostly found in rural as well as suburban areas. My parents and I had never heard of Leptospirosis as our negligent vet at Gramercy Park Animal Hospital (STAY AWAY FROM THAT PLACE!) did not tell us that there is a vaccine for it. While the vaccine doesn't necessarily prevent Leptospirosis it can make it less destructive. Once Joey was diagnosed we faced a heartbreaking decision: put Joey down, or have him undergo an extraordinarily costly specialized dialysis treatment. We chose to proceed with the dialysis - we knew the chances weren't in his favor, but decided to try it as a last ditch effort to save our beloved Joey who had become a beloved member of the family. While Joey ultimately passed away, I cannot praise Blue Pearl Forest Hills and Dr.Iacovetta and Dr.Tse who worked day and night with such passion trying to cure Joey of this terrible infection. They were both compassionate, incredibly dedicated and did everything humanely possible to try and save Joey. Thank you Blue Pearl, Dr.Iacovetta, and Dr.Tse for giving it your all. While we are still heartbroken about the loss of Joey, we are able to live with it because we know we did everything humanely possible to save him and he was in the best of hands. read more

My dog needed emergency surgery and was seen in a timely matter. He was treated with care and ultimately had a successful surgery. The drs were knowledgeable and staff was informative. The facility was clean and organized. My dog was properly discharged with care instructions and had follow-up calls and visit. There aren't enough words to describe how amazing this place is. I was recommended to Blue Pearl after my baby was diagnosed with cancer. Since coming here for treatment she has so far extended her life 7mths. Her type of cancer is very aggressive and the doctor L has been doing everything possible to help her. Although it has come back and now we are doing chemotherapy shots, I know they have treated her with the utmost care. They are 24 hrs so it's great. He emails you the notes and is available to talk. This is long overdue review. My fur baby Luna went into anaphylactic shock due to being allergic to a vaccination and Blue Pearl with its wonderful amazing doctors saved my Luna. Luna was so sick she couldn't stand and her blood pressure was so low they could not read it she was also dehydrated badly she could have easily past away. But these Amazing doctors and nurses saved my fur baby and she is doing wonderfully. If it had not been for them my Luna may not be with us today, yes it may be expensive but remember Hospital emergency visits are costly but worth it. Before I left my Luna the doctor explained that she will be in ICU and she was hooked up to an EKG because her blood pressure was so low and that she will be having multiply IV's to assist her the doctor then accompanied to the back and where I stayed with her for a few minutes to tell her bye and that I will see her tomorrow. Yes I was nervous about what could've happened but I knew she was in good hands and this eased my mind.This was my second visit there and I have to say again they are caring from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave the care is there and the million questions you may have as the owner are answered thoroughly and so you can understand. This place is awesome. It is state of the art, the staff is very professional and very friendly. One of my dogs ate a quite big piece of shoulder bone. (i know, i know... I shouldn't have given it to him. I learned my lesson). He ate it with no problem, however the next they he couldn't poop. He was trying, he was in pain. After a couple of hours trying I took him here and they took him in right away. They could see that he was in distress. He got an enema and it was all good. they kept him for a couple of hours and I picked him up the same day. It wasn't cheap, but it certainly worth it. I know other places would have cost the same $$ or very close to it. Here I didn't feel like they were pushing me toward treatments the dog didn't necessarily needed. I do not understand how this wonderful place and staff have bad reviews. It does not reflect the kindness and patience that was shown to my family last night. Yesterday, my sister and I had the biggest scare of our lives when my step mom called us to say that our dog June was not doing so well. A few days ago, he had swallowed a piece of bone, but after taking a few x-rays and not seeing it in his throat/neck, our general vet advised us to wait a day or two to see if he felt better. After a day of not eating, dry heaving, and overall lethargy, our parents felt it best to take him to the nearest 24 hour animal hospital. They held off on telling us any of this as to not worry us, but finally had to call us because they needed our assistance with translation. I cannot express how much kindness and patience that all the staff showed us last night. First off, Fatima (the absolute angel) took the time to thoroughly explain all of the possible procedures and their risks, and waited as we tried to translate that to our parents. That I'm sure, in itself took double the time and energy that it normally would take, as we were off and on the phone for hours with Fatima. She was sweet and kind in answering all of our questions and concerns, without rushing us to make a decision. She knew that it was a scary decision and was sure to give us the space we needed to discuss it as a family, but was also readily available for follow up questions. Our main concern was that even after doing the blood work and x-rays, just to locate the bone, we'd have to pay more for any additional steps, just to have him die painfully on the operating table -because like all medical procedures, each of the steps had risks and fatalities. We weren't sure if 1.) we could afford it, and 2.) it was fair to June to put him through the pain. However, the sweetheart Fatima went back and spoke to the doctors to see if there were any more affordable options. In the end, the vet took our financial stress into account and we went through with a more affordable option for the x-rays. By the initial look of the x-rays, the vet felt that we needed to either get an endoscopy or even a more invasive procedure. Fatima let us know that BluePearl did both the procedures on site, but there was another hospital in NYC that was more affordable, (we truly appreciated that, because we felt that she genuinely cared about our June, and wanted us to be able to help him) -but first she said that they would send the x-rays to an off-site specialist. After about an hour, the specialist communicated that it looked like the vet could retrieve the bone manually. Although it was highly more dangerous, it was more affordable and both the specialist and vet felt that the bone wasn't too deep. Fatima communicated to us the risks involved and waited as we discussed what we should do. We decided to trust the vet and go with this most affordable option. My sister and I painstakingly waited to hear the results. When we finally got the call less than an hour later, it was the vet to exclaim that they retrieved the bone. We heard and felt her genuine excitement through the phone. The vet was so sweet and careful when explaining the medicine that June would have to be on over the next week. Fatima also repeated it to us later to make sure we understood. My sister and I truly cannot express our gratitude. On behalf of our family and June, thank you so much BluePearl! read more

I recommend due to my experience here and my own background as a health care professional. Dr Ruby Ng and her overnight team were very warm, attentive and competent. Her technician(?) I believe did her own initial assessment and alleviated us of any emergent concerns as well as being accommodating and prompt. Dr Ng was very thorough in her physical examination while walking us through every step during her rule out process. Her recommendations were consistent and realistic with the symptoms. My dog was in distress unable to breathe, and they refused to try saving her let alone even TOUCH HER until they had the financial situation handled. This is the most unethical business practice I've ever encountered in my life. the doctor was the one shoving fees and paperwork down my mothers throat for an hour while they could have took the $2500 cash we had and started working on her - and why was the doctor the one doing this??? Why wasn't a billing/admin person giving out the paperwork??! Shouldn't the doctor have been back there saving my dogs life??? We asked to write a check for a remainder of the money they were demanding but we got hit with the "oh, we don't take checks" is this a joke? Honestly this place gave my cat stanley the best treatment i could ask for. Round the clock care, extremely thorough. Always calling to check in with us and let us know how hes doing. My cat was at deaths door and they brought him back to 100% health. They were so clear in discussing all the options with me. I cant imagine having gotten better or more thorough care anywhere else. Visited blue pearl last night and ended up having to put my sick kitty to sleep- we went in expecting that and just wanted to make sure she was comfortable in her last moments. I can not express how grateful I am to them for their courteous, kind, and compassionate behavior. Sasha had been sick for a while and when we got home from work last night, we knew that was it. We rushed to blue pearl and while we were initially presented with a high bill for care. The vet (female, tall, fair skinned, so sorry did not get her name) quickly came in and described Sasha's current condition and said it may be time to say goodbye. We agreed and they set us up in a room to say our goodbyes. I was able to stay with her until the end and even for a little while after. They were so considerate and kind. I truly thank the vet on duty and all the staff there last night for making an awful experience a little more bearable. Kudos to them. read more

My first experience was very positive, out of concern for a customer I had to stop in with a dog with a small nick. They didn't have to do much in order to stop the small amount bleeding and let me leave free of charge. My second experience albeit sad, was also very positive in terms of service. My 12 yr old, 65 lb dog had internal bleeding and was incredibly weak and could not walk. Immediately upon seeing a dog in such a state the front desk quickly called for a gurney and rushed him back. They stabilised him to an extent and we were able to talk to a vet about our options on how to proceed. The vet I saw was kind, cohesive and honest about the condition of my dog. Sadly I had to euthanise him but I was able to spend our last moments in a quiet room and they gave me the time alone I needed to say goodbye, before and after the shot. They were kind enough to give me a discount on my final bill. Tough morning but they took good care of my friend. One of the toughest days of my life was made a tiny bit easier knowing he was in good hands. The person I brought my dog in with is a vet technician and also vouches for Blue Pearl. I would definitely recommend BluePearl for serious pet emergencies, they are pricey (then again ERs for humans are as well) but if your pet needs immediate and professional care this is your best bet. read more

I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews. Yes, BluePearl is expensive, but so is every other vet we've taken our pets to in NY. However, BluePearl is by far the best experience we have had with a vet in NY. They treated both our dog and us with the utmost compassion, respect, and honesty. We received the absolute best care possible. We took our dog here about 7 weeks ago (May 12th) after she suddenly had difficulty walking. We rushed her to BluePearl and were seen immediately. Dr. Yuki Tse came in to evaluate our dog as soon as we went into the exam room. She was so kind and gentle-- she greeted our dog with love and got down on the ground to give her a hug. Her sweet demeanor helped put both our dog and us at ease. Unfortunately, Dr. Yuki discovered that our dog had severe internal bleeding due to an undetectable form of cancer on her liver and spleen. Dr. Yuki walked us through our options and answered all of our questions. She brought our dog into a room with a couch and put down a huge fluffy blanket for her to lay on while we discussed our options. Dr. Yuki and the entire staff made us comfortable and gave us as much time as we needed to make a decision we felt 100% comfortable with. Unlike most vets, she was 100% honest about the risks and benefits of potential treatments. She told us that we could do exploratory surgery to see if they could remove the cancer (she didn't think this would be a good route to take as it would be risky and expensive). She also said that we could try blood transfusions, but again, this would be expensive and likely ineffective. She also said we could take her home to see if she would improve on her own. We also saw Dr. Martin Kamen when Dr. Yuki's shift ended. Like Dr. Yuki, Dr. Martin was incredibly kind, compassionate, and respectful. He was just as honest about treatment options and didn't once push for us to do the expensive but likely ineffective treatments. If they were simply interested in making money, they would have pushed us for either surgery or blood transfusions; however, they didn't do either. Both Dr. Yuki and Dr. Martin's willingness to recommend something that wouldn't be profitable for the hospital really demonstrated their honesty and compassion. We took our dog home and she went into shock several hours later. We rushed her back to BluePearl as we knew it was her time to go. We handed her over to the very kind vet tech and she passed away the second she left our arms (I can't remember his name). He, like both Drs we saw earlier that day, was incredibly kind. He let us spend as much time as we wanted with her after she passed. I spent about 45 mins with her and didn't once feel rushed or pressured to leave. I know this is super long but I have a couple final points that truly demonstrate the quality of care we received: 1. When we left the hospital the first time, they gave us about 6 pages worth of typed notes and results. They took incredibly detailed notes about every single thing they did from the moment we walked in the door. The quality and specificity of the notes were invaluable for me as I like to know everything I possibly can. 2. A few days after our dog passed away, we received a card from BluePearl. Dr. Yuki and at least 4-5 other vets and staff members wrote kind, compassionate, and thoughtful notes expressing their condolences. I've had other pets die and the vets usually send a standard postcard with a pre-printed sympathy note. Not BluePearl; they actually wrote specific things about our dog and expressed sincere condolences and concern. This was so above and beyond anything they had to do and truly demonstrates the quality of care and respect we received at BluePearl. Thank you so much to Dr. Yuki, Dr. Martin, and the rest of the BluePearl staff for the truly outstanding care we received. We are endlessly grateful for their compassion, kindness, honesty, and respect during such a tremendously painful time. You are wonderful. read more

Visited this hospital on an emergency my dog had trouble breathing. Met dr Brett whom seemed very inexperienced and uncertain with his diagnosis. We asked him if how long he was a doctor he said a couple of years. Later found out he was an intern working on my dog at very expensive fees. We brought our own xrays of my dog abdomen and lungs he still wanted more so I agreed. He said she had fluid in her lungs and needed to be aspirated. We agreed. He came to us and told us he couldn't get everything and it was blood and that wasn't good. So she was still in pain and couldn't breath. At this point being there was useless and I watched my dog suffer. He kept pushing to leave her overnight for $4500. He said her prognosis was poor because it was blood in her lungs. He said it was 99% cancer or possibly heart failure. He asked us if she ate an rat poisoning we said no but still did that test. Then he said it could be heart failure or a clotting problem. I asked him to give her something to stop the bleeding through the IV he said he couldn't do that. Four hours later he wanted us to make a decision whether we were going to leave her or put her down because it was time for him to go home. We were told there were specialist on premise that's why we went there. He convinced us she was dying and most probably prognosis was cancer. We brought her home to spend one more night with her. Two days later the pathology report came back negative. No cancer. Unfortunately we put her to sleep the following day because we were convinced by dr Brett she had no chance. In his report he had listed a lot more alternative diagnosis that he had not discussed with us. Not a very good start for an intern. He clearly had no remorse for my dog. He was only concerned with how he was going to make money for the practice. He was trained for that very well. In the end I have to live with this knowing she could of had a chance at a normal life. Please be very careful where you take your love ones. Doctors do not care anymore. Everything is about money. I do not know how they sleep at night. I hope God will punish him for being dishonest. When we got there I was told to bring him in the back to see the doctor and if they find something wrong then they would charge me. The visit was free! WARNING!! MISDIAGNOSED & UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Completely agree with Don L. and wish I would have read his review before bringing my dog to this place. Dr. Levy and his overnight team completely misdiagnosed my dog saying he needed overnight hospitalization, pain meds, bloodwork, joint taps, radiographs, surgical consult when he just had a bad allergic reaction to something he had eaten. Truly unfortunate that these people only care about the recieving the next $ than helping you in a time of emergency for your beloved pet. If you have to put your pet to sleep, do not bring your pet to Blue Pearl in Forest Hills, Queens. Late Friday night our 12 year old dog had 10 seizures in a short span of time. He was getting seizures for over a year. Our local vet was closed for the evening, so we rushed the dog to Blue Pearl in Forest Hills. They stabilized the dog. We were grateful for this. We brought him home approx. 3:00 AM. Then, at 8 AM Saturday morning after a night of labored breathing, the dog suffered another seizure and we decided it was time to put him to sleep. We knew he was going to suffer the whole day with seizures unless we found the strength to end his misery. When we arrived at Blue Pearl, the staff came out with a gurney. The dog was too weak to even stand up. The staff spoke to us briefly about our dog's condition and we explained we were there to put him to sleep. They said they were going to take him in the back to "assess" his situation. We replied we did not want the dog assessed or treated and we wanted his suffering to end immediately and we wanted him to stay with us and not go in the back with a bunch of strangers. They told us we had to do paperwork first and separated us from our pet! The desk clerk responsible for the paperwork could not find the correct cremation sticker/form, so that added more time that we were separated from our beloved pet. The dog was in the back for approx. half an hour. It takes 2 minutes to put a catheter in a dog. Then I heard the dog (through the door) suffer another seizure. It was then that they wheeled him in AFTER they gave him the first sedative prior to the final shot that stops the heart. The dog did not even know we were there because they applied the sedative before they brought him into the room. He was totally sedated and breathing heavy so we never really got a chance to let him know we were there and to say goodbye. The vet just put the final shot in the catheter and that was it. They robbed us and the dog of our right to be with him for his last half hour and to say the proper goodbyes. I am so angry with these people. Additionally, they had a blue strap around his neck which I believe they use to control animals when they are examining them. My dog couldn't even move or walk when we brought him in there and he was wearing his own harness. I found this extremely upsetting to see that strap around his neck. Why was it there? What did they use it for? No one should ever have to say goodbye to their pet the way we did--he was our little boy and alone in a room with strangers instead of being with us for his last half hour of life. Forms took a higher priority than our need to be with the dog. You might be able to get decent emergency treatment and I believe we did get decent emergency treatment, but don't ever use them to put your dog to sleep. They did everything wrong and this is a burdensome memory we will have for the rest of our lives. Should we have argued? Should we have insisted they wheel him into the room with us after five minutes passed? Should we have went into the back to retrieve him? Yes we should have and we blame ourselves for not being more vocal and taking action but we also blame them for being so insensitive to our need to spend the last half hour comforting and saying goodbye to our beloved pet. I hope someone from this business reads this post and reviews this to improve the way other people are treated at this place. PLEASE DO NOT SEPARATE OWNERS FROM THEIR PETS WHEN THEY MAKE THE DECISION TO END THE PET'S SUFFERING. Your staff should be very capable of placing a catheter in the pet's body with the owners present. Visiting vets do this all the time. You had no right to rob us of being with our pet for his last half hour of life, and to also cause him more anxiety by being with strangers and separated from the people he loved. Your delay allowed enough time for him to have another seizure before he died. This is not acceptable. Unfortunately we were not able to reach a visiting vet or we would have opted for a home euthanasia. All in all, this was a terrible experience. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! Please don't trust or rely on just their judgement. They pushed to have my cat euthanized even though she had kittens waiting to be nursed by her at home. They told me that she could drop dead on the way home. It's been over a year and she's alive and happy, thank God. They have no clue and shouldn't be working there at all!!! The vet assistant, Andre, was an arrogant jerk who treated us as if we were beneath him. And no one there was skilled enough to handle a scared and sick cat (unlike Long Island Vet. Specialists and other locations that I've visited). They were actually pissed off and felt inconvenienced. They should consider working at the DMV with that kind of disgusting character & lack of skill and professionalism. How the heck did they get certified!!!! This vet is a joke. They will let your dog die if you don't have the money. I was told it would be 137.00 to check out the dog and if he needed anything it would be much more. The doctor came out to speak to me and told me she would give me an estimate. She said she doesn't know what my dog has and has to run a bunch of test. I told her I cannot afford a huge amount but will like to see the bill. I was expecting 800.00 but instead the doctor gave me an estimate of $2,000. I begged to see what we can do for my dog for the night but she refused and guess what I had no choice but to take my dog home where he later died that night. This doctor was just money hungry. She wasn't even compassionate and I find it funny how she spoke to us and told the girl in the front to give us the bill. So unprofessional and I highly do not recommend. After I got here they said the puppy need to take the parvo test its 150, after 10mins They told me the puppy had parvo! And they said I have to leave the dog at that place for 1 week and the bill is going to be over 3000! And they said if I don't want to pay and giving up on the puppy they can take over the puppy! Beware this place is out to get your money, I brought my 6 week old kitten here because her vet referred her she was vomiting and had diarrhea and had become severely dehydrated she need to be observed she had lost her appetite and was lethargic. They had to keep her overnight I was told I could call or visit at any time. I called in the morning and I was told that my kitten was doing better, then a couple of hours later they called saying the internal medicine doctor will check her for and additional fee so I agreed after he checked her he called me and said that she is not doing well and he thinks that she will need to stay another night in the icu, so I told them I couldn't afford and that I was bringing her home ... About an hour later the doctor calls me back and tells me that my kitten is doing much better. I think they lied to take my money. I took my pit bull pup here for a skin condition he was having. The nurse recommended I see the dermatologist, who told me that there was NO specific blood test or test that would tell me what was causing his intense scratching, skin rash, and hair loss. And then charged me and my fiancé a ridiculous amount of money! 900.00! So I decided to just take my pup to a vet back home in New Jersey where my mom takes her dogs. The doctor told me, there is in fact a blood test that will tell what's causing the skin condition! I got the results back and I now know that my pup is allergic to chicken and soy! So the dermatologist at blue pearl LIED!!! They are clearly just looking to take your money and don't actually care about the animals health. Two stars overall for managing my cat's cancer. They did manage to reduce the tumor, but when my cat started showing worrying side effects and I told the oncologist I was considering stopping treatment, he was very condescending and had the nerve to tell me we "should not be having this discussion right now". I found this response very offensive because if I am spending thousands of dollars there I should be able to discuss whatever I choose related to my cat's condition and welfare. Nobody has ever tried to talk me into euthanizing my pet before. If Im there on a Sunday at midnight, its because I would do anything to save his life, and I dont need to think about euthanasia until there are no other reasonable options. Also, they will try to talk you into all kinds of unreasonable care that your pet doesnt need, and then when you tell them you cant afford it, they lower the price. They take advantage of the fact that people love their pets and would do anything for them, all the while making themselves richer. If you can help it, theres a much nicer, less expensive, less obviously a business 24 hour clinic in Plainview. Never again with these people. read more

You would think the fact that this organization saved my animal's life would be reason enough for a five-star rating. I was prepared for being fleeced financially, so I went in with realistic expectations, but I had been told the trade-off was that Blue Pearl staff in Manhattan were warm, supportive and as caring for humans as they are for pets. Not in Queens. There's an unsettling robotic style to nearly every person with whom I came in contact - no warmth, no humanity, no personalization. I smiled appreciatively at the MD who had done my pet's intake the day before and she clearly had no idea who I was. They're very busy, you see, and they don't really look at you, which leads them to look through you. Most importantly, their policy trumps any reasonable concessions that might be made, which left me without enough medication for my cat until 1-800-PET-MEDS gallantly offered to give me a free shipping upgrade so that my cat would not be forced to go without meds ("I won't have someone stressed if there's something I can do to avoid it," said the customer service agent, something that should have been said to me at Blue Pearl). Blue Pearl would only give me eight days' worth of meds when I needed ten to avoid a break in treatment. And when I asked to appeal to a supervisor, the supervisor would speak only through the front desk staff. I told them that when a client has paid nearly $5,000 in one week, the client deserves to speak with the supervisor in person. The staff was unmoved, clearly trained to take the hit. I walked away with eight pills, for $8 apiece (1-800-PET-MEDS charged me $100 for quadruple that amount, plus three other medications). This is also the first animal hospital I've seen where the MDs will decline performing a service before they will reduce the cost. They leave you sitting in a room to decide between your bank account and your pet's salvation - alone, because they have another client to see, and they want no part of it. Even AMC in Manhattan will waive an exam fee or give you a percentage cut when they see the bill mounting. The staff at Forest Hills' Blue Pearl were unmovable. To cut down on my expenses, their idea was to have my cat's blood sent out for analysis instead of being done immediately in house, which I was forced to do and added another five days to the waiting process. They "present you with an estimate" which materializes in printed form so quickly you can't imagine how they do it - at one point an estimate for two more days in the hospital, which they expected up front, until I said, "Why don't we go one day at a time?" All of the staff have clearly been very carefully trained in their own role to avoid discussion of financial concession, from vets who claim "they don't involve us in the finances" to financial specialists who call you to get the credit card payment on the phone as late as 10:00pm if you can't get there to make the payment until the next morning. There is no good faith, no sense of building a relationship with the people who come to them. I live in a city where nearly every decision has to be made according to how challenging it is to get somewhere. Blue Pearl will remain my go-to emergency vet for that reason, but it's a calculated, unpleasant, pressurized, dehumanizing practice. I felt like a number there, a number with a lot of zeroes as it turned out. They saved my cat, and that is what counts, but God, if you don't walk in on four legs, you cease to exist for them except via your wallet. To get a keen sense of this, look at the owner's response to the negative reviews on here. His response are nearly identical - vague, failing to address the issues discussed and with a ready-made "invitation" for you to contact him when he should be contacting you. There is one start because i couldnt post this with no stars. I was referred to BluePearl by may family vet to care for my 13 year old pitbull for an internal infection. I was nervous, yet hopeful that they would be able to help, as the infection was running rampant inside his nasal passage/sinuses. Their initial action was to perform a CT scan and a smaller test or two for around $2,700, which came back with absolutely no results. Their next action was to perform surgery to remove the entire infection and run tests on the bone/tissues that were removed. The price was going to be around $4,300, an amount that I was willing to do my best to get because this dog is my best friend and my family. However, even though I have a good job and work steadily, being single and living on my own, $7,000 is not easy to come by in a week. I am very disappointed to say that, though I had more than half the amount needed, BluePearl turned us away with no chance of receiving any help from their office, via payment plan or any other manner. We were specifically told by the doctor working on our case that they do not take partial payments and do not work on payment plans. I was shocked and speechless. This doctor saw the holes in my guys face where the infection burrowed its way out as drainage tracts, the newest one appearing yesterday. So, as my poor dog's face gets ravaged by this infection, I have no choice but to pray that my family vet has the tools and want to help my little old guy out. Good luck to the rest of you. I hope that they treat your animals as more than a dollar sign when you go in to try to get help for your loved ones. I am a huge animal lover so it's unfortunate to write a negative review about an animal hospital. From the front desk service to the vet service, it was cold and salesey. The receptionist didn't even say hello, just stared at me until i said something. Weird. The vet said my cat had to stay in the hospital 2-3 days due to urinary blockage. Long story short, I went to animal medical center in NYC that same night and the vet was able to confirm there was not a blockage, he was able to get a flow of urine so we went home with pain killers and meds got his bladder. Urinalysis in progress. The next day, we visited our regular vet to make sure, he was okay. When I have good service and care, the amount a facility charges is not an issue even if it's expensive. I wish that I could give ZERO STAR to this SH*T HOLE! Like many other people complaining about this place, I was referred by my vet to this place, which later I realized that each vet can get referral fees from this hospital. My pom broke his leg 2 days ago and I sent him to the hospital in the emergency situation. The on-duty doctor gave him an X-ray and wrapped my dog with a splint. I was charged for almost $800. Later the doc kept telling me that my dog needs surgery or he will be cripple in the future. Be aware of those "professional" advice!! The doctors there just want to make money as much as they can. And they know that a good pet owner will be willing to spend money to save his pet and they take advantage of that! At that time, I was so worried about my dog and I made an appointment for the surgery for the next day. The on-duty doctor told me that the surgery may cost me 2000 to 3000 bucks. I think it's ok with me since I have insurance. On the second day, I took my dog for the surgery and met the doctor who will perform the surgery. I think everything will be fine. Then they showed me the estimated bill of the surgery. They would charged me between 4000 to 5000 bucks!!!!!!! I was totally shocked and tried to negotiated the price with the doc. In the end, the doc lowered the price to 4400 bucks. And I did pay for that since I only wish my dog could be fine. The surgery seemed to be successfully and my dog was kept in the hospital for overnight. Finally, it's time to pick up my dog and get the FINAL bill. The hospital seemed to save some money for me and I even got 100 bucks refund!!!!!! But I after I checked the bill I found that the hospital is just PLAYING TRICKS with me!!! Before the surgery, the doc estimated that my dog will use 1 plate and 6 screws and each screw is charged for 390 bucks. But in my final bill, the doc used 7 screws and its price GOES UP TO 440 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!! It means that actually the hospital charged me almost another 800 bucks MORE!! If they didn't change the screw price, I could have SAVED 800 bucks!!!!! And NOBODY contacted me to tell me the changes!! Thus, I requested to talk to the so called BILL SUPERVISOR of the hospital. After waiting for half an hour, I finally met this ARROGANT man with very bad and unprofessional attitude! His name is Michael something... I asked him about the price changes and he said after the doc opened my dog's leg and he found that he should use another kind of screw. Thus the price goes up. This arrogant and stupid Michael also said that they SAVED money for me since they use less material such as anesthetic. REALLY?!! I DON'T think that it is you guys save the money for me. It is because my dog is small and he actually DID NOT need that much amount of anesthetic in the estimated bill! This stupid guy tried to trick me with his limited and stupid logic. And I kept asked about the higher price of screws. Later, I think he just didn't know how to deal or refute me and he just pissed off! I asked him who is his supervisor or manager. He just said I am the supervisor here. The way he said that is just like a shameless gangster. So you are the stupid BOSS of this sh*t hole??? I would never return to this place again!
