I will admit I was extremely skeptical because of the surrounding sights in the neighborhood but was presently surprised with my visit. Blueprint is a diamond in the rough, literally. This cafe is slightly industrial and rustic with very unique touches, fitted with its lacquered wood tables and pink metal chairs. It is a large space, great for a quick meet up with friends, working, or alone time with room to spread out. The cafe beverages were amazing! I made a bowl with shrimp, curried chickpeas and coconut rice. It was delicious and very filing. I satisfied my sweet tooth with a vanilla doughnut. The staff was welcoming and provided good service. It was OK but not memorable. Great vegan options but they were out of the vegan chicken and waffles after I had paid for them. This had me scrambling to find a replacement. I got the vegan French toast with a side of potatoes. The French toast was just ok. The potatoes were ok, not crispy enough. I also got the vegan bread pudding muffin. I went for the first time to Blueprint with five friends this morning and I was very impressed with the food and the atmosphere. The location is in an unlikely industrial zone but fortunately there is sufficient parking in a lot just before you reach the restaurant. Indoors it is spacious with a comfortable modern design. The staff are helpful and the food is all prepared from scratch. I had the vegetable omelet and the tofu scrambler, and also the first smoothie which is a delicious green concoction. All of these were far above average. This is an excellent choice especially when I am on the New Jersey Turnpike or picking someone up at Newark Airport. I definitely plan to return soon. read more

A nice experience! Went for Mother's day and there was a flow of customers. If you like ginger, that ginger smoothie was everything! The vegetable omelet was flavorful and packed with veggies, delish! The gluten free waffles were tasty. What stood out amongst the food was the atmosphere, live dj playing some good music and the host/owner who is in tune. I am not a vegan, but picked up Vegan Chicken & Waffle here, and it was pretty good. The corn waffle was naturally sweet from the corn, and the vegan chicken tasted like crispy chicken nuggets. The caramelized peaches tasted like they were from a can, but that's okay. I thought the dish was a creative version of the classic chicken & waffle. Food is delicious and flavorful, especially the Mac and Cheese pie (coming from my 9 years old daughter). The inside is unique with an acoustic feel. Let me preface this review by apologizing if what I am about to write diminishes Blueprint's unique and wonderful vibe, but this place is reminiscent of some of Melbourne (Australia's) best cafes and the kind of casual but stylish cafe experience that is often hard to find in the US. Kudos to the owners for making this happen. My God what a find! Can I give it 6 or 7 stars? Why stop at 5? From the industrial-meets-baroque decor, to the extensive and careful menu (proper Jersey sandwiches, diner staples, eggs every which way, AND thoughtful vegan) and good coffee (just needs a cortado and vietnamese iced coffee to attain perfection), this place ticks all the boxes and is worth the long walk or windy drive to get to this out of the way location. I barely leave bad reviews. I was in town & stop by. Nice aesthetic place to say the least. Customer service was decent could have been better. I ordered some French toast, one was made correctly and the other one uncooked and soggy, I asked for some fresh fruit and they told they don't carry fresh fruit. They offered to re make it, but I passed because how can you mess up some French toast.. To owner you need more improvement on your food overall.. We came on this place by chance. Since we recently started a vegetarian/vegan diet, this cafe seemed like a good option based on the menu. We really wanted breakfast and since there wasn't a breakfast end time listed on the menu or website we attempted to order Huevos Rancheros and a Veggie Omelette. Unfortunately, we were told they were only serving lunch and due to a private event they would be closing at 2pm. None of this was ideal, but the staff was so pleasant and apologetic. Upon arriving, and if you're not used to the area, it can easily be missed (happened to me the first time). Although not located in the business district of Newark, NJ, but rather off the highway, Blueprint Cafe Lounge offers great parking for their customers. The set up of this cafe/lounge is so uniquely designed. The whole concept is right in the name, "BLUEPRINT". On the walls, you can find an interesting blueprint and designs. I feel in love with the setup and how they have a little seating area for you to do work, grab a coffee or even eat your meal with a group. There is also standard seating throughout the cafe. Overall, the whole aesthetic is chic! The food also does not disappoint. They offer extremely big portions and the menu screams HEALTHY. My first time there I ordered the chicken quinoa bowl which was a great size and the chicken was perfectly made and seasoned. My second time there I ordered the salmon salad and it was equally as good. They have everything on their menu from burgers and fries to a nice salad. Before your much needed visit, please note that there are nonvegan options. I have to say, this place is certainly worth the visit. A black-owned awesome space and eatery in an unassuming part of Newark. The menu caters to most palates offering plentiful vegan and non-vegan options. They offer chicken and waffles AND a bangin' vegan burger. What's not to love? Their fries are great too! If you just want coffee? This spot is great for that too! And you can even pair it with a vegan or non-vegan baked good that is actually baked in-house! What more do you want? This is a pretty solid choice if you're in the area and need something different besides the typical portuguese chicken. The area is super industrial and desolate with the Newark Path too far to trek it from so I wouldn't recommend you come here on foot but whatever butters your biscuit. Amazing went for brunch Sat around 11am wasn't busy and was able to sit right away. I had the vegan chicken and waffles and have to say it was was pretty good and portion size was huge! I ordered off of Grubhub recently and was excited because Blueprint Cafe got lots of good reviews and had a relatively large vegan menu. I ordered whole wheat pancakes and tofu scramble. Both were really good. The pancakes were a little sweet and the description said buttermilk and said vegan so I assume the buttermilk wasn't accurate. If there was option to get syrup on the side I would have taken it but Grubhub didn't offer it nor comments. That said I ate the whole thing and enjoyed it. The tofu scramble was also good although I agreed with another reviewer that it needed more seasoning. Also it was a little watery perhaps because the tofu wasn't drained enough or the vegetables like pepper and spinach gave off too much water but the potatoes were awesome and toast was great and the scramble was still very tasty. Overall I still really liked this dish. I will definitely order from Blueprint again and try some of the other options. Thanks for making great vegan food available! read more

It says corn waffle on the menu and I've never seen that before that this genuinely might be the best waffle I've ever had. The texture and flavor were insane, it was crisp on the outside but soooo fluffy on the inside and the perfect amount of sweet. The peach compote was a great plus and wasn't too overpowering in terms of sweetness level. Definitely a dessert-y meal but it was so satisfying. Seriously, if you take anything from the review, try that waffle!!! We split that and then decided to create your own plate with rice (opted for plain rather than coconut rice), shrimp, and did the asian flavor style). It was the perfect savory balance along with the waffle. The rice was well cooked and it was full of veggies and delicious shrimp. The wings were basic fried wings but were nice and crunchy. I didn't get the salad that I wanted but it was great. The chai tea was YUMMMMAAAAAAAAA. All in all, I would easily go back in.
