Some friends recommended this place to us... glad they did! They were very busy on a Saturday night, so we just sat at the bar. Our servers were great.....Brandon and Abigail. We started with the pork belly and pimento cheese appetizers. The pimento cheese was fantastic - warm and gooey. We had 3 entrees - the creole seafood étouffée; the fish of the day (broiled red snapper) with roasted green beans and new potatoes with a butter / wine / capers; and the "Surf & Swamp" (grilled catfish, shrimp, & alligator). They were all VERY GOOD! Then there's dessert. We tried the two that our servers recommended.....the bread pudding and the Butter Cake. Oh my! Abigail said it best, "It's everything pound cake wants to be." Super moist and delicious. We even got to visit with the manager / owner's son, Brandon. I wanted to bring home something different for dinner so I checked Yelp and Blueprint popped up. I ordered the bone in pork chop and it came with slaw and potato salad. I ordered the VooDoo Shrimp which was green tomatoes and shrimp. Both were travelled well and well packed. The chop was delicious, maybe the best I've ever had. The potato salad had a little zing. The peach BBQ sauce was the real deal! I tasted my wife's food, she ate all the shrimp, and the tomatoes were thick and well fried. My husband and I went for dinner for the first time last night for our anniversary and while it was a cute little place with decently fast service, we were a little disappointed in the food. We made reservations 3 days in advance and are glad we did, even on a rainy Thursday, it was crowded! We were seated quickly, ordered drinks - he got the Oaxacan Old Fashioned and I ordered the Winter Punch. I have to say, his drink was much better than mine - the punch just tasted like honey - it was so so sweet. Starters were honestly the best part of the whole meal - the cornbread and oysters Rockefeller were both very good and tided us over until entrees. I ordered the spicy blackened redfish and my husband ordered the seafood pappardelle but unfortunately both were under seasoned. My sides under the fish were great but the fish itself, which looked blackened, had no spice or salt to it. Now when it comes to anniversary dinners, I'm always the most excited about dessert, but this was the most disappointing part. We ordered the crème brûlée because I really thought you can't go wrong with that but the sugar top wasn't brûléed for long enough so it was a chewy toffee mess and the custard was not set so we were essentially spooning up soup. We really should have gone with something else and I would have complained but it was the end of the meal and we just wanted to head home before the weather got too bad. First the good: The food was absolutely stupendous. The Mrs. and I got the cornbread muffins, we split the fried chicken livers and onion ring appetizer and I had a bowl of chilled tomato soup with crunchy diced cucumbers, crab meat and dill, with lemon olive oil drizzled on top. The Mrs. had the elk chop, I had grilled rainbow trout. We each had the bread pudding. Every single solitary bite was awesome, highest recommendation there. The service was also impeccable from start to finish, not one bad note. From viewing what was going on in the restaurant, the servers all had each other's backs and someone who I took as the owner was actually out there pitching in and helping out and circulating around and talking to folks. The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is the atmosphere. However this got on Yelp's listing of "romantic restaurants in Birmingham," I'll never know. Because this place was as loud as being in Bryant-Denny Stadium with 101,821 people in it. I mean oppressively, headache- and earache-inducing loud, so loud you could not carry on any type of conversation without screaming. I think part of it is the layout of the old blueprint company it's in, the ceiling is open and the roof appears to be metal and there's absolutely no kind of acoustic baffles. I think part of it is that this place seems kind of schizophrenic in they're not sure what they want to be, a fine dining restaurant or a bar/trendy place where people hang out and get loose and make noise. I personally do not think you can be both and do it justice. I would eat here again in a heartbeat. Without question. But I might very well get takeout. read more

Again, I wanted to really like Blueprint. And yet another seemingly great experience with the atmosphere, staff, drinks and appetizers, until we were notified of every menu item that they were out of. This isn't the first time we've encountered this issue and I assume if we come back, it won't be our last. We wanted two Trouts, a burger, grits, and the pork tenderloin. They let us know there was only 2 burgers left, only one trout, no grits and no pork tenderloin left. The wine selection, appetizers and outside patio are great but can't makeup for being out of most of the things that we wanted from the menu yet again. I probably won't be back soon but hope that blueprint can work out their kinks soon. read more

Oh Yelp! BP3! Amazing. Yep you upscale. Let's start with the service. Our server was clearly overwhelmed and on the verge of being, maybe frustrated, I'll say. Well, Brandon, the owner's son, just stepped right up and stepped right in! He begin to serve us with charm and southern hospitality. WE WERE NOT HIS TABLE! Honey, we were Brandon's guest! Whatever, we needed. He was on it. From extra coke, to more corn muffins, more water, and extra toast for the pimento cheese. Thanks Brandon, your leadership shines and made this a great night. It's ladies night, on a Monday, and we are a picky party of five. Apps were corn muffins(2 batches so good), oysters and pimento cheese. Mm, Mm good. Entrees were 2 orders of catfish with slaw and fries, 2 orders of grilled trout with smashed sweet potatoes and Brussels and one braised beef with Mac and cheese and asparagus. Y'all this stuff is good. One of the ladies hated the catfish and sent it back. But, I kilt, yeah, KILT IT. Mine was so good. Went here for my birthday celebration and was very pleased with the experience, food and drinks. We made a reservation ahead of time, as it tends to be quite popular and busy new spot in town. Enjoyed a cocktail at the bar prior to being seated. For dinner, we went with a couple appetizer dishes, cajun shrimp,and fried veggie platter. Cajun shrimp was a cold dish, which was interesting, but loved the grilled smoked tasting shrimp and sauce. The fried veggie dish was also very good, I thoroughly enjoyed the fried okra, green tomatoes, and pickles. For our main entrees, we went with the steak and fish of the day (mahi, i believe). Both were served with veggies and some sort of potato/starch to compliment the meat. Loved both dishes. Well seasoned, cooked, and complimented with veggies and filling potatoes. The plates were nice and clean after we chowed down. In the end, we were a tad bit too full for dessert, so maybe next time. Overall, great place to dine. Nice staff and good service. Great food and drinks for a fair price. This place is great and I so wanted to give it at least 4 stars but I have one gripe. I ordered the Spring Vegetable Salad and the Surf & Swamp. The salad was one of the best salads I have had in ages!! Don't skip this one! The tomatoes were absolutely the most fresh and top notch. However, the Surf and Swamp was awful. Fish was terribly salty, the shrimp had peels that you couldn't even peel off. So essentially no shrimp for us. I have had my share of alligator and this was the absolute worst ever. So chewy and literally straight out of the swamp. My experience in the past was that I could hardly notice the difference between alligator or chicken. Definitely not the case here!! read more

I love this cute, new place in the Pepper Place area! There is a small, adjacent parking lot and valet available. I went with a group of six and we had reservations. We started with wine at the bar. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the selections offered. After we were seated at our table, we started with appetizers. Fried okra and some other goodness, hot pimento cheese with toast points and sautéed mushrooms (with a fancy name). The pimento cheese was my fav'. Everyone else followed with salads and seemed to enjoy them. My entree was fab'! I had the fish of the day, I think is was amber jack, on rice pilaf. It was soooo good. A couple of my friends ordered the pork dish that I won't even try to describe, but I tasted it and it was divine! The scallops over grits was pretty good. On to my favorite course: dessert. We tried them all- creme brûlée, chocolate cake, blueberry bread pudding, peanut butter pie. Yum, yum, and yum. The blueberry bread pudding was the obvious winner for me, though. It had WHOLE blueberries in it which, for some reason, just did it for me. Loved it. Finally, the service was amazing. Our waitress Kacie was a complete pro. I'm a picky eater- I own it- and she peeped it right away and made sure to be extra-accommodating. Like, she even asked me which slice of cake I preferred when all of our desserts came out! A.PRO. Tame the picky eater, win my heart forever. A gentleman whom I believe was the owner also checked on us throughout the evening and personally thanked us for coming by when we we left. Heard great things about this place so we decided to make a reservation and check it out. When we arrived we were seated promptly. The server for our table I believe her name was Rachel was soooo sweet and pleasant I will come back just to sit in her section. The fact that before we even ordered our food multiple staff approached our table and thanked us for dining with them really impressed me. (I understand they just opened but they didn't have to do that). So on to the food. I ordered the oyster shooter for a starter and for my meal I ordered the fresh catch of the day which was the salmon over rice pilaf with a tomato vinaigrette. My husband ordered the BP3 burger which was huge! We both really enjoyed our food. Also, the cocktails are amazing! For entrees we had the Elk dish and my girlfriend got the Étouffée. The Elk dish was by far one of the best dishes I've had in the Birmingham area no doubt.
