A fresh, healthy, choose-your-own-destiny type place. There are menu combos (salads, warm bowls, and even burgers) that you can choose from or you can make your own I went for the Santa Fe (and added pickled onions). The portions are filling and the ingredients are fresh, simple, and flavorful. The dressings they make really elevate the dishes, adding more complexity to the dishes. I loved the chipotle vinaigrette! I was intrigued by the Not Yo Mama's Rice crispy treat and now I think I have found my new (less) guilty pleasure in town. It was SOOOOO good. Do yourself a favor and try one. On another note, although the front of the house was pretty spotless, I think a little more attention could be had behind the line. Omigosh I found healthy and tasty food in Alabama! I was skeptical when a work trip brought me here. But I found Blueroot and it was fantastic. Plenty of healthy vegan or vegetarian options and mNy were gluten free. I went with the Santa Fe warm bowl, subbing tofu for chicken. The ingredients were fresh and tasty and it was a good sized portion for the price. Only downside was while the staff was friendly my particular food preparer had some difficulty listening. The Blueroot is an amazing little vegan restaurant on 2nd Avenue south. The staff was really nice and quick with mine And my girlfriend's order. I had the Santa Fe bowl as is and she had the ginger soup, both of which were delicious. The music is also quite nice but they do not have much dining space. It is also really well kept and is surrounded by shops so it is an easy place to have a shopping lunch as it were. It also does not seem too bad of a place to study for a college student and that was a plus for us. I highly recommend giving The Blueroot a try. read more

This week, my boyfriend and I decided to try out Blueroot. I haven't ever been to a gluten-free/vegetarian restaurant; My boyfriend's family is actually gluten-free and suggested this place to us. For my meal, I ordered a Classic Burger with the beef brisket patty, all in a gluten-free bun. For the side, I chose chips and a simple bottled water for the drink. To be completely honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the gluten-free bun and it isn't something I'd typically go for, but the burger itself was very fresh and flavorful. The chips were a good addition and the entirety of the meal was quite filling. Compared to a fast-food cheeseburger, I noticed that this food didn't make me feel tired and didn't make my stomach hurt which was a plus. The only thing I noted was that the wait was a little long (but we did visit during busy hours), and the prices are a bit high. I had this place bookmarked as a place I wanted to try since their menu options looked so healthy and delicious. I was lucky enough to attend an event they happened to be catering so that was a nice surprise! I tasted their naked eggs with bacon, their overnight blueberry lemon oats, chia seed pudding, not your mama's rice crispy treat, and a collagen bliss bite. Today I tried Blueroot which is a restaurant that serves clean and healthy foods. And although I am not vegan or vegetarian, I decided to try their Santa Fe salad bowl. It comes with spring mix quinoa, black beans, sweet potatoes, cherry tomatoes, goat cheese, pumpkin seeds, and chipotle vinaigrette. And although I don't usually like salads, I must say this was one of the better salads I've had. It was delicious and it wasn't very heavy at all. After my meal I didn't feel bloated at all which was great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who participates in vegan or vegetarian diets. Blueroot is a staple restaurant for me. I go there a few times a month and it is always fresh and tastes amazing. They have great vegetarian and vegan protein options including a beautiful beetroot hummus (see picture). Today, in addition to the hummus, I got the tamari glazed tofu which I have found goes well with lots of their salads/grain bowls. While the tofu is my favorite, I have never tried something I didn't like here. The employees clearly make an effort to be kind to everyone who comes in, and they get to know their regulars. The inside of the establishment is always bright and clean (in front and, importantly, behind the counter) and there is plenty of outdoor seating when the weather permits. Sometimes the food can be a bit pricey depending on your order/choice of protein, but for the quality you get in comparison to other salad restaurants I would say it's well worth it. If I had to change one thing about Blueroot it would be that they stay open later in the day! read more

The blueroot burger is a plant based burger that had arugula, pickled onions, cucumber, and a creamy dill sauce sandwiched between two toasted buns. The burger tasted way better than I expected. The patty was juicy and delicious combined with the creamy dill sauce, cucumbers, and onion. I also didn't feel sluggish like I would eating a burger from a fast food place. The smoothie was delicious with a mango and raspberry flavor and I really enjoyed the brownie that was dairy-free and gluten-free. I would have taken a picture if there hadn't been so many people seated in front of the plant focal wall. The folks who work there were super friendly and helped me decide on the Santa Fe bowl. Such a zesty, spicy, fresh, crunchy, sweet, creamy delight! It had a base of quinoa and spring mix with sweet potatoes, roasted tomatoes, goat cheese, black beans, radish slices, and pumpkin seeds on top. And the dressing. THE DRESSING! It was a chipotle vinaigrette. It blew my mind - and the roof off of my mouth, because it was SPICY! Maybe a little hot for the average bear, but I loved it! The salad was generously-sized and could have made two small salads, but I ate mine whole as a meal. Blueroot also has plenty of proteins you can add to your bowls, but I elected not to. It was pretty good and it really filled me up. The ingredients were fresh, which I liked. It wasn't the best salad I have ever had, but I did enjoy it. It was gluten free and if I had removed the bacon, it would have been vegetarian. I recommend this restaurant if you have dietary restrictions or like to eat healthy. This place had me very conflicted. It's a great location, Pepper Place is a great historical area that's beautiful and fun to visit for older building views, and the restaurant is immaculate. I did have some serious sticker shock after ordering my salad, ended getting a cob salad and added some chicken to it. The price was 17$. For me, that seemed excessive. Then I took the food and ate it. All of it. Probably one of the best salads I've eaten. Also, all of the packaging and utensils were disposable, but earth conscious. Taking that into account, they probably have to charge higher prices because of higher cost ingredients and packaging, so I guess that's the cost of being eco-friendly and having really high quality ingredients. So, the price was high, but wow. I can't hate on the food or the place, it really did seem like you get what you payed for, so, only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because of the price point. This establishment has been a standout at the Saturday Markets so they are dipping their toes into a brick and mortar for a limited time. They founder is a Cali transplant that is serving up good, healthy, fresh but most importantly delicious food. She was warm and inviting when we walked in yesterday. First the "Not Your Granny's Treats" were absolutely what everyone should try. It is a great alternative to the marshmallow goodie of empty calories I grew up on. It's full of heart healthy nuts and grains that will fit into most diets but is absolutely delicious too. All the salad dressings are freshly made in house and sold in mason jars. I loved the dill dressing that's being highlighted right now. I'm glad I requested an extra one because the salad comes with the exact recommended portion amount of dressing for people that eat to live. I poured the dressing on my salad, put the top back on the container and gently flipped it around to "toss" everything completely. I added some Ms Dash instead of salt and enjoyed my meal. The salad itself is fresh greens, thin radish slices, almond slivers and items that provide texture and pop in each bite. I don't know the names but will include it in my diet from now on. If an establishment can introduce new healthy products in my first visit that are also delicious to a person like me, I imagine they will be an even bigger hit to fit people. Since it's a Popup there's not a landline. They have blue circles painted on the sidewalks with arrows leading the way to the site. They are right outside the loading dock by the PepperPlace sign on the building. It's near Farm Stand and in the same parking lot as the gardening center. I'm glad I took the time to locate them. I forget to order a cup of the Tea because it sounded interesting. I had the Farm Stand Salad the day after this review. It was outstanding and will have me returning soon. read more
