Bluestone has it's ups and down. For me, I've gone there and had an incredible meal, and then other times, my food falls flat. It's strange. I've come to realize that a secret here might be to order the specials. They have never let me down. Bluestone also has a decent beer selection, which helps any restaurant in my book. But at the same time, the place can get packed, the strange combo of people at the bar trying to have a few drinks, with the families with little kids packing the dining area. It can get loud. Avoid on weekend nights. Go when it's quiet, and the atmosphere is relaxing. read more

The food was surprisingly good, chicken quesadillas were made with real chicken, tender and heavily seasoned. They also have a handful of excellent craft beers on tap. The vibe is a little bit sportbarish with loud pop music blasting, but the food and beer is good enough to warrant a visit. Service was super friendly which was refreshing. This is within walking distance of my place and is great for drinks (awesome craft brew menu) and their late night menu (not sure if they have it anymore) is super tasty and crave-able. Wings either over-fried or more likely fried in old oil. Turkey Rueben was neither a good turkey or Rueben sandwich. Tap was slightly below room temp and beers not cold. This makes me think the tap lines are not clean and there is likely refrigeration issues - makes me think there are things spoiling. Been here 4 times and I LOVE this place. It has a great, comfortable atmosphere with people of all ages. As others have said, the beer list is solid. I especially enjoy that they have Ranger IPA on draft. The food is great. They just revised their menu and it made their food even better. I recently had the new turkey burger and it was fantastic. My girlfriend had the shrimp scampi and loved it as well. Service is always friendly, genuine, and timely. You name it - hostess, waitress, busboy - they're all friendly and provide great service. Good prices, quality could improve. Atmosphere is very bar like, but a very family-oriented restaurant. Bluestone Burger - $10 for a dry burger patty, with tiny amount of blue cheese, very crispy bacon (not complaining about the bacon at all lol), great bun, poor quality lettuce and tomatoes on the sides, and plain sweet potato fries with no dipping sauce. Incredibly disrespectful and rude. I stepped out to take a phone call and they would not let me back inside without waiting in the long line, despite the the fact that I had been there for a few hours and had told the host I was calling a friend. My whole party had a table and they still would not let me back inside and was incredibly rude to me and told me to leave, even when members of my table came to bring me back. Small place with a wait of about half an hour or so during peak hours. Food is good, I ordered the southwest salad with greens, black beans, pepitas, tomatoes, guac salsa, queso fresco and a few other ingredients. The salad was delicious. The vegetables and cheese tasted very fresh. The pepitas were great, nice flavor and a refreshing crunchy texture. I got dressing on the side but with the guac and salsa I didn't really need it. The guac and salsa portions were pretty small, would've liked a bit more to accommodate the size of the salad but no big deal. I got some type of ginger beer which had a unique, light and crisp taste. For dessert my group split the brownie Sunday, I wasn't expecting much because they didn't have a dessert menu, the waitress just listed the items for us. I was pleasantly surprised. All three ingredients were great. Whip cream, mint ice cream and brownie all tasted great and even homemade. Nice staff too especially all the bus boys. read more

i come here on nu gameday for some drinks or the random night i meet up with a friend on the northside. that's about it these days, though. when bluestone first opened, i enjoyed walking here with the fam or a few friends to get some thin crust pizza and some beers. i think one time i may have ordered the veggie burger but clearly i don't remember it all that well.... now if i order food from here, i usually just get a basket of fries with some ranch. i used to get a caesar salad but the last few times i've had it the lettuce has been more brown and wilted than green. sick. and yeah yeah yeah, why would i get a salad at a place that serves bar food? well, because i'm a meat snob and won't eat any meat offerings from here. so yeah, good place to meet and grab some drinks. not so much of a place to get a good meal, though. read more

The place was half full the mid-week evening we went. Service slow. Not very attentive. Went here for dinner on a Monday. It was still pretty packed with people. The beer list is okay, some decent options. We ordered the Patty Melt with Chili on the side (mmm!) and the BBQ meatloaf. The patty melt was just OK -- the toppings were nothing exceptional, but the burger itself was really great. As for the BBQ meatloaf -- I'll be thinking about it for quite a while. I was skeptical slathering BBQ sauce on meatloaf would mean they really believed in their recipe but it's absolutely delicious, as were the potatoes. read more

One of the few saving graces of dining in Evanston. This is a nice cozy feeling restaurant/semi-sports bar that is friendly for all ages. The food is very good.... I recommend the burgers which are juicy and delicious, the pizzas, the salads, and the stuffed pork chops which are tender and moist. For some reason I always forget about this place. It's a great pre/post Northwestern athletic event establishment. They have a solid menu and good drinks. They have some of the best buffalo wings in Chicago and they also have a lot of other mouth watering options. Some of my favorites are the burgers, salads, or the quesidallas. Back when I lived in the North Shore I used to really like Bluestone for dinner. Although this is a pub-like atmosphere, it's definitely a restaurant more than a bar. As you can see from all the kids eating here, you definitely don't need to be 21 to enter! Nonetheless, the beer is good, the pub-style food is tasty by pub food standards, and I've always been happy with the service. Bluestone is one of those places that WAS once a reliable stop for a higher than normal quality Pub fare. There was usually a good crowd around the bar and food was reliable and they served until around 11PM. I recently stopped there and it was not the same place. The operative word here is WAS. At 9:30 the normal menu was replaced with one of the worst bar menus I have seen. Outrageously overprices quesadillas and nachos and a couple of salads is about all you can get after 9:30 PM. Slim picking has definitely affected this place in more ways than lack of customers. I'd stay away or go to CJ Arthurs in Wilmette. They serve until 11PM or 12AM and are very accommodating if you are late. I left Bluestone at 10:15PM and had one of the best burgers I've tasted at CJ Arthur's at 11:00PM read more

Bluestone is bar and restaurant that opened in 2001 at Central and Greenbay in Northwest Evanston. The owners are Evanstonians and the patrons tend to be locals too. It is very family friendly and almost always busy so it tends to be noisy. The food is good, the service can be a bit slow, but everyone is very friendly. The beer and liquor selections are excellent. The decor and ambiance is causal. About 1/4 of the space is bar with tables with the remaining indoor area dedicated to sit down dining with servers. There are about twenty outdoor tables on Central Street that are quite popular and a bit of a cool scene. Beware that the wooden two top tables and chairs are horribly uncomfortable. There are TVs in the bar and the restaurant showing sporting events. I would definitely recommend Bluestone if you are looking for a place as described above. read more

This place is not bad if you want to have some food and drinks before a Northwestern basketball game. This is the only reason we came here. It's very close to the Welsh Ryan arena. The bar staff and the patrons were friendly, even to other, visiting fans. Expect a long wait if you go here before any games though. Once you are seated the food did come out fast. 3.5. Pretty solid place. Nothing too special. Somewhat small but it works. Good atmosphere with a bunch of stuff on the walls. I got the salmon on a bed of spinach which was a very thick, juicy filet. I also asked for broccoli on the side and they gave me a large, perfectly steamed head of broccoli on its own plate. Very impressed and very satisfied. The rest of my party was happy with their meals also. Service was not a problem. From the moment I walked in, they knew I was from out of town because I wasn't a "normal." Well I quickly became one let me tell you!! The beer on tap is great, as well as the food. The staff is friendly and the owners are wonderful as well!! When ever I have friends or family in town, I'm sure to take them to my favorite place Bluestone!! Let me tell ya, I have never written a review about a bus boy. Victor is absolutely phenomenal and makes the dining experience amazing. He is so funny, sweet, and kind and runs around the place making sure all the customers are happy. Had the pleasure of having a few seconds to talk to him and he mentioned how he loved his job and how everyone is family to him. It was inspiring about how passionate he was about his job. Then there is Maria. What a stellar waitress. She has a bubbly personality and had awesome service. Food and drinks came out in a timely manner and anytime I come to Bluestone I will ask to be seated in her section. This is a powerful DUO. I will always recommend this place and always come back.
