I've been trying to check out Bluetop for a minute now and we were trying to find a chill place to grab a drink on a Friday night in the Chamblee area. Options were limited but we were excited to check out Bluetop. You order at the register at the entrance where you get a number and they bring your food/drinks to you. I decided to order a gin cocktail, which they used pea blossom gin in. Honestly can't remember what else was in it... but it was boozy and tasty. Made a quick stop at this place on the way to our final destination. Great vibe and atmosphere! We got the special tacos and salad and everything was super fresh and delicious, the queso dip was also quite delicious. We went here for a mid-week lunch on a beautiful fall day. They have some tables in the front, but they have a very large back patio with lots of outdoor seating and some of it is covered. They also have garage doors they can roll up for extra ventilation. When you arrive, you order and pay at the bar. There is a drink station where you fill (and refill) your own drinks before finding a table. Our food arrived very quickly. My side salad came with the lemon vinaigrette and it was very tasty. Detour. SERVICE: I usually like counter service, but this was just weird. They start a tab for everyone and then I guess you just have to trust them when you leave to close it out? I thought this was odd and they told me that they would handle the tip, too. It was an act of congress to get a receipt and the cashier seemed really put out to have to print it out. We ordered two apps and two mains and it came out in this order: - 10 minutes after order: App 1 - 5 minutes later: Main 1 - 15 minutes later: Main 2 - 10 minutes later: App 2 The server apologized for the delay and said she would take off the tardy app, which did not happen. FOOD: Not great. The burger was bland and the fries were over-cooked. The french dip was served on two small dinner rolls. Hummus was ok. No idea on the wings as I asked them to box them up as soon as they hit the table since we were done. OVERALL: I can't get over not providing receipts to customers. How do I know the bill is accurate and has been closed out? Why the hell do they think it's ok to give themselves tips on your open tab? So unusual. read more

Bluetop is more a bar than I expected. It is located in downtown Chamblee where several new spots have popped up. I'll be brief as there isn't that much to say. It's a bar that has a kind of cool courtyard with a stage and live music. Seems to be pretty busy and favored by many locals. My wife and I sat at the bar and the bartender was kind of salty to be honest. That said, service was pretty quick and he poured a stiff drink. So I guess I will deal with the tude. Prices were fair and the environment was decent. We were far enough from the stage for it to not be too loud. So my wife and I were able to carry on a conversation. Just nothing special in my mind to make me want to go back. We didn't eat as we had already eaten. No harm in checking it out. It could be your jam (pun intended) especially if you like live music. Just read Blue Top is now serving a limited take out breakfast from the vintage RV. It's been awhile, for various reasons, since I've visited, so OK, here we go ... The guy who took my order was very friendly and accommodating, I was pleasantly shocked !!! LOL !!! I ordered the taco with scrambled egg, bacon and home fries. When I got the taco it had quac and cheese on it too, so it was loaded with filling for $5.00. Nice soft tortilla. I liked it, very tasty. Came in yesterday on Sunday afternoon around 4:30pm with some friends to grab a drink. I love downtown Chamblee and have been wanting to try Bluetop for a while! You order at the front counter - both food and drinks. If you get food, they give you a number and will deliver your food to your table. They have lots of indoor and outdoor seating. We loved the outdoor patio area! So spacious and vibey! There were quite a few people there! It was super kid friendly it seemed because there were lots of families. I got the blue Rita - basically just a margherita. It was strong! And super good. They serve beer, wine, cocktails, you name it. They also have a good food menu! We got fries for the table to share and they were yummy! I'd love to come back to try their other apps and entrees which all sounded delicious. If there was a prize for fastest service, Bluetop would win first place! It's so impressive that almost immediately after ordering, our food arrived! There was a line to order and their lunch service was ending to top it off! There was a guy at the front who not only took orders and payments but was also bartending - multitasking is a skill set and he was doing it without being frazzled. When the food arrived, it was hot as fresh off the grill. Every order was delicious. The yum yum cauliflower appetizer is noteworthy. It's one of those dishes I am going to try to replicate at home and then it's not going to be the same so I'll have to visit them again just to have some more. Chamblee is booming with outdoor eateries and I love the open concept that Bluetop has - garage doors allow for the outside air even when you have an inside seat and it just so happened to be a gorgeous day. You can find Bluetop at 5362 Peachtree Rd, Chamblee, GA 30341- this is on the same strip and south of the Chamblee City Hall, about halfway between Southbound and Union Hill Kitchen. Parking can be found along the sides, there's also some street parking. There's a blue neon sign for the place that's unfortunately a bit hard to read. I liked this place quite a lot - much better than the formerly boarded up building. It does take some getting used to - you walk into a door to the left and you order your drink and/or food. You can then either wait for it or be seated. This can be convenient if you're just wanting to go to the great courtyard in the back - I'd imagine that to be quite fun when the weather is nice. On the night we went it was a bit too cold for this. The counter-service is a bit confusing if you've never been - the place is quasi-bar, fast casual and brew pub. I threw in that last as the micro-brews they offer are quite good but the selection a bit smaller when it comes to drafts than you might expect. They make up some of the assortment using bottles or cans. I ordered a very nice Green Man Brewery "Trickster" IPA on draft and was told it would be delivered to the table. I went here with my friend John F who is the host of our Buford Highway Restaurant Crawl group - we decided that for this run we'd occasionally side-track to nearby restaurants - I think this is about the 3rd time we've done this in 2016/17. I quite liked the vibe of this place, even the blue lighting. Throw in a small Jazz ensemble and this would be "totes!" Once my beer arrived someone came by to take our food order - we started with a few appetizers and went on to a light dinner. * Black Garlic & Lily Fries - I'm not usually someone who orders fries, especially as an app but these were the bomb. Heck, anything with fresh garlic goes a long way in my book - these were served hot, crispy and had great flavor. * Tempura Lobster - served with cucumber noodles, wasabi aioli, sesame - Loved this dish - who doesn't like bits of fried lobster? Everything in this dish was well balanced - you had enough kick in the aioli to offset the fried flavor and the sweetness of the lobster offered a great flavor combination. I highly recommend this. * Buffalo Octopus - Awesome is the best word for these - probably the best cooked octopus I've had in some time. These bits were tender and missing the chewiness of what most people are doing these days by smoking/grilling. Bluetop has this down - my favorite app. * Grilled Oysters - served with tobacco onions, maitre 'd butter - we wanted to try these but they were out of oysters that evening. ** For Dinner ** Smoked Pulled Pork - 24 hr smoked, honey siracha slaw - John F ordered this and I tried a bit. The pork had an amazing amount of smoke flavor but for me, I'd rather it be served unsauced (sauce was mixed in as is common in the south). Overall I think it was good but I'd rather have a slab of ribs if I'm going there. ** Angry Fried Chicken Sandwich (Spicy) white bread, pickle - I was hoping for more of a Nashville Hot but this was more of a Buffalo Wing Sauce sandwich. Personally I would adjust this and make it more Asian and less Buffalo to make it distinctive. It's your basic batter fried chicken breast covered in Buffalo sauce, served open-faced on Texas Toast and accompanied by Yukon Gold Chips. I liked the dish and I'm sure most would also - the sauce was hot but not blazing and the sour pickles added that extra punch of acid that goes so well with spicy-fried things. I loved the Yukon Gold Chips - super crispy and not greasy, I wouldn't hesitate to get them rather than the fries - I'd call it a tossup. Overall the menu is a bit lightweight (more in vein of sandwiches/salads plus apps) but I liked everything we ordered quite a bit. Married with the beer and this place is quite a winner in my book. Service was good with various people coming by several times to check on us - then again the place was pretty slow with 3-4 tables and a couple people at the bar. I came here one day after work for food and drinks. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I decided to order the cod fish sandwich. It was pretty tasty but it came with 2 patties on the bun. Not expected so I just took one patty off. It came with a special sauce on the bun that gave it a nice flavor as well. I had the Thai Tucky cocktail, Bourbon, pomegranate, lemongrass, biters, and citrus. It was yummy and had a nice kick to it. I do believe they have frozen cocktails as well. Tonight is probably the last time we choose to dine at Bluetop. Food quality has rapidly declined and service when ordering was horrific! Asked the lady taking orders about a specific sandwich. She lied about what was on it. Completely. Then also said they don't make a particular mixed drink that minutes later I found out that they indeed do! Then two of our food items were never brought to our table. If food quality was as good as it was a couple of years ago I could excuse this poor excuse of an employee encounter. But combining the two (low quality food + nightmare service/employee) makes for a restaurant that will no longer be an option for our family. It was bad. read more

Randomly passed by and saw there was a new restaurant in Chamblee. Went online and read a little about it and got super excited as the menu and background sounded promising such as that Portofino's executive chef Matt Marcus is behind the new restaurant. Blue top is located next to Zen Tea with newly created parking spot in between the two buildings. Gotta warn you, parking is pretty limited... Blue top has this very casual and homey feel where you kick back and eat, drink, and play cornhole. The ordering process is a bit chaotic though, with the ordering station right in the front when you walk in and you find a table whether in the front where its pet friendly, next to the bar, behind in the back, and back in the patio. Its way too short of a distance from the front door to the ordering station that its too crowded to even get in the door. Also double that when you have to go back to pay for your check. This definitely needs to be rethinked... Overall the whole restaurant is very open to outdoors which can be good and bad when you're fighting weather and mosquitoes but they do have mist to help with that. For my entree, I went with the burger and I must say, HF has some competition. For me, cheese was bit too weak but the two beef patty was so juicy and flavorful that it literally melted in my mouth. Not to mention the in house fried sweet potato and beet chips, i could eat it all day. My husband ordered the lamb sloppy joe and unfortunately wasn't so great. My friend also had ordered the fries and while it had lot of extra stuff like fried onions, wasn't a huge fan of the sauce nor tne overall texture. One thing is for sure, on our next visit, we have eyes on the angry chicken sandwich which is gigantic and makes your mouth watering. This is the best casual restaurant in all of Atlanta. I know that's saying a lot but it has the whole package; Great live music, casual cocktails, a fun venue, fresh delicious food and most importantly, the best staff/service. We lived in Chamblee for nearly 2 years and I've gone to Bluetop probably 60 times. The reason why we keep coming back is that Blue Top feels like a true welcoming place and each experience is somehow different than the last. I consider us lucky to live near such a great place. Tried Blue Top last Saturday evening. Our adult kids had all been there multiple times over the years and enjoyed it so we wanted to try it. We were not disappointed. The venue is very friendly and comfortable. You have the opportunity to choose where you'd like to sit; inside, outside or inside but near the open garage-style doors. We chose in, yet almost out, in front of the live music. We both wanted burgers and fries which were served promptly but still allowing us ample time to first enjoy cocktails (and beer) and listen to the band. Burgers were good sized, tasty and well priced...as were the drinks. Service was prompt and friendly. All in all, Blue Top was a good choice on all accounts and worthy of a repeat visit. read more

Went here on a Sunday evening for dinner with our toddler and didn't end up staying. Upon walking in no one was wearing a mask, which if that's not one of their policies that's fine, but generally speaking it was shocking to see everyone in there without a mask including staff. There was no line to order but the bartender essentially ignored us for 10 minutes while he carried on a conversation with a customer at the bar, but the bar is tiny and he saw us and it was clear we were ready to order and he just wasn't in any hurry to help us. Being parents who were dining out with a toddler, this in general wasn't a kid-friendly place that we would come back to. That said, if you're kid free and trying to enjoy a fun bar atmosphere or watch a sports game it's probably more you're speed. Blue top is an awesome spot for great drinks and good grub. The past couple of times I've been to visit the friendly folks at Bluetop it has been for a few drinks and some bites. On my most recent visit I came with a couple of friends and we grabbed a table in the main dining room. We typically sit at the bar, but it was poppin' this particular Friday night and there were no seats available. The ever so friendly Greg was quick to get our first round of drinks and help us decide the right beverage to wet our whistle. The bourbon on tap was excellent. It was smooth and seasonal with averna, cinnamon and cranberry... And I think maybe blackberry? Whatever the concoction, it was delicious. Then I enjoyed the scofflaw basement IPA, always a solid choice for this IPA lovin' gal. I ordered the Bluetop burger with waffle fries because ya girl was craving a solid burger. The patty was cooked perfectly although I was never asked my preferred temperature. Maybe they have perfected the melty gooey-ness of a medium burger with oozing cheese. It was delish! The waffle fries were crispy and delicious dunked in ketchup. No, it's not the best burger I've ever eaten, but it's definitely tasty! The atmosphere of the place is great for all types of settings-dates, groups, family. They just put some turf out in the back, had a fire going in the fire pit, and have lots of TVs for all the important games. It's a great place to hang out in Chamblee and I will definitely continue to visit time and time again. The made-in-house chips are great, the ambiance is interesting and casual, and the black bean burger is terrible (especially for the price tag: $13!). As a former vegetarian, I have eaten my share of veggie patties, meat substitutes, etc, and it was just profoundly disappointing to order yet another burger with a patty that fell apart, that was under seasoned, and that was, in a word... lazy. The jalapeno bun it was served on didnt do the burger any favors either. It was a mealy, squishy mess. I ended up ditching most of the buns and pretending I had ordered nachos. Exactly what you want from a bar! Delicious, greasy, huge amounts of food, good beer, and strong drinks. Nice place to grab a drink, have a good meal, or just watch the game, although parking can be a nightmare on a busy night. I got a burger which was enormous yet fantastic, and I am definitely going to be back. One slightly strange thing that others have also mentioned is the ordering, which is done at the bar and then you sit down. Advantage of this is service is lightening fast, but the great disadvantage is when it's busy you have to stand there while ordering and watch all the good seats get taken! Food is not cheap but is tasty, so worth it for ordering it at the bar they give you a number for your table, no wait staff but food runners that are happy to get you incidentals if need be. Service is standard and the location has limited parking. The main draw of this space is the outdoor seating area. Ordered the fish sandwich of the day. It wasn't restaurant worthy. Had to ask for extra sauce and pickles to get some flavor into it. The drinks were Ok, my cocktail watered down pretty quickly though. My husband ordered wings and those were fine. I'm giving it 3 stars because my plate wasn't good and the menu in general didn't have any "healthier" options. I wish their menu was better.
