My husband and I LOVE this restaurant. Best food and service on the island. We came for lunch and were immediately greeted at the door. We chose to sit outside and our hostess was so kind to think of our comfort. I first opted to sit around the corner since no one else was there and she warned me that it was very cold, so we moved to the other side and sat right in the sun. Our server was so kind and efficient. I feel horrible I don't recall her name! Warm sourdough bread is given with lots of butter. Yum! We each ordered clam chowder and shared a plate of calamari. The clam chowder was phenomenal. (so much so, I considered ordering a bowl to-go so we can be fatties and eat it by the beach). The food, the view and service was amazing. Solid food, I would give a 4 star for the that. But Bad service, the waiter wasn't as attentive as other servers. When we questioned him why we have one appetizer short, he simply replied:" I didn't put it in your order." Hey, we still speak ENGLISH! How rude. The wait was long (45 min) but it went by fast at the bar. The drinks were reasonable under 11 for a a martini. The location is great right on the water. The food was fantastic and prompt. Will definitely come back again when in town. read more

I went there for dinner with my friend, seafood is not fresh and the fish is very very salty. Also the service is very bad. What could be worse, they also overcharge my credit card!!! Very terrible experience. Won't go there again and not recommend this restaurant read more

This is a very nice restaurant on Catalina Island. The outdoor dining (with heaters) is great. I recommend the artichoke and crab dip as a starter, and my wife's salmon looked great. I had the New England clam chowder which was also very good. The service was very attentive but, sorry, they lost a star on the Caesar salad. The favor was good, but the lettuce was all the yellow, ribby, bottom ends of the head. I had to wonder who got the green portion of the romaine, because I sure didn't. read more

We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday. The view is amazing and the food is good. Technically, This place deserves at least 4 stars for the food, but the hostess left us waiting for over an hour (we were promised a 30 minute wait). When I enquired about our table for a second time she said "oh, we can seat you right now." We noticed several open and empty tables as we passed by to our table. My wife had the salmon which was good but not excellent and I had the grilled swordfish which was good as well. The waitress was friendly and attentive and gave us free ice cream for dessert for my wife's birthday. Since they don't accept reservations, it's a good idea to stay on top of the host when waiting to be seated. read more

The atmosphere is hard to beat. Our waitress rocked. They don't know how to prepare a lobster. Undercooked, sent it back. Complete rip off. If you're going to charge what you charge then make it right. Some people should not be doing business. read more

I came here with high expectations, given that this is supposed to be one of the better lunch spots on the island. Sat on the patio in the sun, it was beautiful out. Really is a great spot. Ordered the skinny Avalon Iced Tea, which is a Long Island Iced Tea, and it was STRONG. So strong that I felt like I was just drinking a mix of alcohol with a hint of diet coke. It did the job, but possibly the "skinny" variation needs some work when it comes to flavor of the drink. For lunch I got a burger. It came soggy. The entire bottom bun was wet, and inexplicably pink, as if someone dropped pink lemonade in my plate...except the person I was lunching with got the same thing, and also got a soggy pink bun. It was inedible. The fries were good though. Service was good, food and drinks came quickly...but maybe they should have taken the time to make sure what they were serving was of quality first. read more

My husband and I went by for lunch. The location is amazing. They sat us right next to the water and all in all, the food was pretty good. The problem was the service. We were there for about an hour and a half before we got our entrees, and the appetizers alone took about an hour. All is very good, but the Fanny Bay oysters were extraordinary, and anything fried with panko is delicious! Bluewater has locations in the San Diego area and they never disappoint. The prices and food seemed to be of comparable quality/price and service was fair. I did find a hair in my butter (which looked to be from a dog) but other than that the food was good and it was an overall good time. read more

The food and service do not do this restaurant's location justice. Clearly the best place on the pier to enjoy the sunset, this grill did not impress us with their menu. While not bad it did seen overpriced for what we got and the service here is definitely not on par with some of the other nice dining options in town. We went to Avalon fully expecting to get the free lunch at the Mexican restaurant, but after reading all the negative Yelp reviews, we opted to get something nice instead. We ended up at Bluewater and we are so glad we did! The food was delicious. My wife and I got a clam chowder bowl and seafood platter to split between us. Super fresh and delicious. I give Bluewater Grill a 5 for their location and the view, however the food and service ruined the entire experience.I ordered the Seafood Louie Salad which was nothing special, definitely overpriced. My boyfriend ordered their chicken sandwhich and he did not like it at all. Our waiter had a very bad attitude throughout our dining experience which made me feel unwanted and wanted to get out of the restaruant asap! We had dinner here for our one year anniversary and everything about it was just perfect. We originally had reservations a few restaurants down but the staff was so snobby we left and ended up here. The vibe was great, the food was just delicious and our server, Megan, was probably the best server I've ever had! She went above and beyond to make sure that everything was just fabulous. I was happy to see Bluewater Grill where Busy Bee used to be. It's great to have another restaurant option in Catalina. Food is the same good quality as other Bluewater's and the waterside patio is spacious with lots of umbrellas. They did seem understaffed for a summer Sunday afternoon as we waited 30 minutes and there were numerous tables open both inside and out. The bar is nicely appointed and a good place to hang out if you arrive before the crowds as there are only about 10 seats. read more

I knew things might not go well when I called the restaurant prior to our arrival to inquire about reservations. (They don't and that's not my compliant.) The guy on the phone sounded annoyed that I was bothering him, cut me off short, and hung up. Not a good sign! Upon entering the restaurant (which was very nice) we were promptly seated, the waiter promptly took our drink orders and food orders - then nothing! Yes nothing! After 20 minutes of no drinks, no food, multiple attempts to wave down our waiter, then anybody, we walked out. (The bus boy did bring our bread and soft drinks for our sons.) Twenty minutes is a long time for nothing! Where in the world was the manager? Why wasn't the manager walking around, making sure things were going smoothly? This is not an employee issue. This is an upper management issue that has brought in bad local managers, not watching their local managers and creating a culture that customers don't matter. Bluewater Grill has opened up several new restaurants including my hometown in Temecula, which I will never visit. If Bluewater Grill does not get its act together soon, it will follow in the steps of other restaurant chains that have expanded only to fail. Bad Management! Came here for dinner on Valentine's Day and it could not be more perfect. Even though it was busy, the service was wonderful. We ordered the prix fixe meal which was a surf n turf (filet and lobster), everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. We also ordered the seared scallops and crime brûlée - both to die for. Ordered the lemon pepper Mahi mahi and it was so great. The oysters were phenomenal. My boyfriend had the swordfish and it wasn't too fishy. And to top it off there buffalo milk was awesome. Best seafood I've ever had read more
