I wish I could give 0 stars. I went here last night and had the worst experience I have ever had at a bar. Upon arriving, everything was fine. We ordered our drinks from an unfriendly bartender but they were quick and fine. A few minutes later we had to go to the restroom. We walked over and the bouncer told us we had to leave our open drinks on the ledge next to him. Noticing that there were already about 10 drinks on the bar and that it wasn't being monitored in any way, I said no. As a girl, we're taught not to leave our drinks unattended. He said that my option was to "leave my drink or hold my pee". So my boyfriend held my drink and waited until I got back to go to the restroom. The bouncer that was watching the bathrooms was such an asshole. He was so insanely rude that I was shocked. A little while later, we were minding our own business and they were very suddenly starting to close. They looked at us and said "you need to get out now". We asked if we could just have a second to finish the drinks we were served right before. They told us that we needed to chug it on our walk to the door. We were very upset at this point about the way we were being treated by the STAFF! Once we were out on the sidewalk (public city sidewalk, might I add) and waiting for our uber (which was around the corner), we had bouncers coming over and getting in our face telling us that we needed to leave. They weren't only saying this to us, but everyone standing on the PUBLIC sidewalk where they have no jurisdiction over who is standing on the sidewalk. They were in our face telling us that we needed to leave immediately. They told us that we could wait for our uber somewhere else and that nobody could be standing here on the sidewalk. We walked to the next block (on the other side of their parking lot) where another bouncer approached us again. He claimed he was coming over to apologize to us but was getting in our faces again and being aggressive. Finally he walked away and said "f*ck you" to us. We are very kind and polite people who were mistreated all night by the staff at this establishment for no reason. I have never been treated so poorly anywhere in my entire life. They need a huge change at this bar as I'm seeing that rude and disrespectful staff is a common review here. Absolutely horrible. While it's cheaper than some other bars, your money is worth going elsewhere. read more

I think Boar's is getting a bad rap. I've been going to this bar for years and have seen it evolve from a rough biker bar to a nightclub with some good local bands. The drinks are awesome and the service well? If you get rubbed the wrong way from one bartender try one of the other 3. As for the security, they have a hard job listening to 300 drunk people every weekend. The main bar gets over crowded later in the night but thats why I get my drinks from the other two bars. Sure, there's a cover after 10:30pm, but why are you showing up to the bar so late? Expect there to be a line everywhere you go and to pay a little to get in. They have GREAT specials during the week like: Happy Hour everyday till 8pm and ALL night long Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. TUESDAY NIGHT there's an awesome special after 8pm. It's $5 dollars for a Beer and a Shot, and not just the cheap stuff either!! Thursdays they started having The Scene which brings in local San Diego bands which they started posting on the doors outside and advertise in the Reader. I was looking for a place to watch a sporting event on a sunday night. It is always crazy busy on Sat night so I have never been in but have really wanted to see what this place was all about. Figured I would check it out when it was not crowded. Sunday evening..... completely dead even with all the pool tables and TV's to watch the games. The girl behind the bar was was not very welcoming when we walked in and could not tell us what games were on which TV's. As we ordered a drink she put coasters on the bar and asked to see our ID (completely fine).....but my cousin was with me visiting from out of the country. She took one glance at the ID and said she would not accept his ID. She handed it back and rudely said "you can't be in here". She quickly pulled the coasters away and just stared at us as if we had the plague. (BTW my cousin clearly looks over 35 yrs old!) I manage a bar.... and if one of my bartenders was as short and rude to a customer (especially when we were dead slow and had no reason to be short with a customer)..... they simply would not have a job. I have no interest on finding out what the hype is on Saturday nights now... and Not the place to go if you are visiting from out of town. My friends and I will never go here. Unfortunate.... cause we all live and work locally to CB Village. read more

Soooooooo their website says no cover before 10!!!! We get here and they tell us it's actually 9! We even showed them their own website! Instead of letting us in they apologize and insist on still charging us! I had a group of about 15 people that drove over 30 min to this place. Very unprofessional and they were rude too. If their website says something that's on them and shouldn't be on the customer! Probably won't come back. Nothing great here worth paying to come in for. read more

Very high-school clicky. If you go by yourself and not a regular at the end of the bar, good luck getting a drink. I travel for business and just want to unwind outside of the hotel and always prefer local establishments. This place is hit or miss. When I'm in town on the weekends, the bartender Vivienne (weekends only?) provides breakfast, and it's usually pretty good. Keep walking and opt for another downtown bar instead, such as the Irish pubs or anywhere else. We went here for the third time because we wanted to play pool, however for the third time one of the bartenders (can't name her) was just as rude as the other two times we went here. We saw her also treating other customers poorly and chitty chats with her friends instead of smiling at customers. We opted not to tip her based on the fact that she seemed annoyed and bothered to have to serve us, not to mention it's not as if they have table side service - you have to walk to the bar to get a drink (and wait even when the place is empty). After two rounds, we gave up and tabbed out to find another place to go. Then when she saw we didn't tip, she literally SCREAMED at us - in our face. We told one of the guys at the entrance and he just shrugged like it was no big deal. We were not drunk whatsoever. The guys serving draft beers out back are cool but we wanted to be inside. What this particular bartender doesn't even realize is that she is in the CUSTOMER SERVICE business - we weren't difficult customers. Also, we drive for two private transportation companies and get local and tourist people asking us every weekend where we recommend they go for a night out - so it's this bar's loss because now we will actually tell people NOT to go here. Management needs to realize that not everyone going to a bar wants a rude experience, just a drink or two and to listen to the music, play pool, hang out with friends, etc. I can see being rude to a guest who initiates bad behavior, however that wasn't the case with us. We are genuinely courteous. We were shocked at how we were treated and how some of the staff treats their customers. We went to another bar down the road where the waitresses don't roll their eyes when you ask for a glass of water. They check on you frequently and actually try to take care of their customers. The management here needs to get their employees on board with that! If you are a bartender - DO IT! And not with a horrible attitude or find another occupation. read more

First experience at a bar in Carlsbad and will NEVER go back again! The attitude and poor service from the bar ruined our experience.

The atmosphere is good, and the dance floor with DJ is fun. Bartender was friendly but not outgoing. The liquor selection is pretty lame though and drinks are poor - just go with a reliable beer. My dark 'n' stormy was more of a light 'n' balmy. read more

This place is a joke. Straight up meat market catering to mostly Marines spilling over into Carlsbad from Oceanside. Don't go here unless your desperate and/or a Marine. You can expect low lighting, low energy, and awkward looks from awkward people. Just keep walking past this place. read more

Some friends of mine and I went there for New Years eve. We are fairly regular patrons (until now). A lady I had met there before came in and asked how I was doing. Me and a few friends went here this last saturday. It was a cool little place with multiple bars which we thought were nice. They also had a back patio for smoking, which was cool. The drinks were cheap and made pretty strong. There was a cool band playing, I think they were called Sand Section. They had a cool sound and had the crowd moving. All in all it was a pretty standard place but the band gets them an extra star. I would be back for the music. read more

Best place to get a cheap drink! The mornings consist of retired folks, afternoon are working people, and evenings are the younger crowd. Vivian, Kristen, Anita, and Noel are great bartenders! Billiard sticks suck, but bring your own, games are inexpensive. read more

This place has come a long way in the last few years. The music is getting progressively better and it seems that the patrons are too. I think the management is trying to reinvent the "meat grinder" reputation and up the standards a bit. The bartenders for the most are friendly and know how to make some strong drinks. This place has definitely changed for the better over the past couple of years. They have a killer $1 beer draft special every Thur/Fri/Sat. The ticket price/cover is usually pretty reasonable, I've seen a lot of big local bands play at Boar's for about half of what it cost to see them at places like Belly Up. The Staff is super friendly. I never used to like the place, mostly because of its bad reputation, but i heard they have a new owner now, which accounts for all the positive changes. The crowd is pretty diverse, but it seems to be mostly locals. Boar Cross'n used to attract a ton of Marine's in the past, but with all the Punk, Reggae, and Hip Hop shows, that doesnt seem to be the case anymore. I see some negative posts about this place, but they seem pretty old. Since the bar has changed i think its great. I love it there! read more

Definitely not your average bar/club/hang out. The reason this place is awesome is simple: it's totally different than any other place in town. Yeah, I get that there may occasionally be roving packs of skanks, or a bunch of Marines (is that really a bad thing?) but ultimately, the staff is super cool and personable, and this place just has a more casual vibe than the more pretentious options out there. I like going to meet friends, and they're good at getting some pretty sweet bands to play there. Can't hold it against the establishment that people you may or may not like happen to be at the same place sometimes. Weekend nights can be crazy, and that's pretty much what I expect (and go out for) on those nights. Daytimes though, you get a completely different crowd- one that is laid back and super nice to talk to. It's casual and cool, and isn't pretending to be something it's not. I'm in. read more
