As usual a weekend visit to our friends who live in Carlsbad necessitated a stop at Village Pub. Our last stop after a day of day drinking in The Village. As per usual Village Pub was a great last stop. Good drinks at good prices with good, friendly service. A short walk back to our friend's house makes it even better. read more

I have walked, or driven, past this place countless times wondering what type of place it was. I finally found out. I was hoping for cocktails, but the seltzers were well priced, so that was fine. The best part of this very small establishment is the great combination of staff and clientele. The bartended was nice and helpful. The regulars were warm and engaging. One of them brought a huge dog that was friendly but could easily use your leg for a soup bone. I hope to return on my next trip to Carlsbad. read more

This bar is the diviest dive bar ever - which is exactly what they're going for! As some others have mentioned, it's TINY. Literally just a long, narrow bar that seats I'm guessing 12-15 people. That's it! It's dark, had a good, interesting mix of music playing, and there was a TV turned to a baseball game. We received a greeting immediately and had beers in hand fast, along with a bowl of fresh popcorn from the movie theater style machine. Why don't more businesses do this?! Genius! Seems like this bar is loved by a good balance of both locals and curious tourists wanting to check out just how small it is. We come to the area often and will definitely be back! read more

I was here two nights ago.....Don't go here unless you like bartenders who are rude for no reason at all and don't wash their hands. Everything in this place is nasty and old. It's like the little train that could....try to keep up with all the hoity toity new spots like Campfire or Barrell Republic. Lol Great NARROW little spot, would not suggest for you and your closest 10 friends lol at least not at the same time. But if you stand in line, like at the bank, when one leaves another can come in it might work. Hahahaha Funny train special and great prices. No food.but POPCORN! Good tiny bar. Paul is a nice, if soft spoken, bartender. They have Guinness (but don't pour it correctly). Reason for -1 is no liquor.

This was a cool neighborhood spot I went to for a quick drink in the afternoon. Only a few people were about the cute girl behind the bar was super friendly and there was just a chill vibe about the place. These type of spots are a dying breed so I hope this place is still around for my next visit. read more

Pub? Not really a pub. It's small. Very small. Should be called Village Pug. But that's part of the charm. If you're lucky enough to snag one of the fourteen or so stools in this chill hallway of a bar, you'll be treated to cold cheap beers and free popcorn served by attentive and genuine bartenders, surrounded by tourists (trying to pay with credit cards) and friendly locals with eclectic jukebox taste (mostly Pearl Jammy, Policelike, Ramonesish, Princesque, or Bushy), both groups all ready to be your new pal depending on how much they've drunk. Four stars for drink prices but two stars for a small, crowded bar and zero ambiance averages a total of three stars. My group of six barely fit into the narrow bar and the line of bar stools made conversation with anyone aside from the person directly next to you nearly impossible. Definitely not the spot for hanging out with more than one friend. On the plus side, the drink prices were quite reasonable and we got four drinks (three beers and a cider) for $22. The complimentary popcorn was a nice surprise too. Be aware that this is a cash only bar too. Ultimately, we ended up having just the one drink and moving on to a spot where we could more easily socialize though. read more

When out playing Pillage the Village, the Pub is always worth a stop. Yeah, spread your arms and you could touch a beer tap AND the opposite wall, but for you and 22* of your closest friends, there's a great selection of brews on tap and funny malt-based pseudo-vodka drinks for your girly girls. Regular bartender is a good guy. Popcorn buffet flows. I like the Pub. * Courtesy of Carlsbad's We-Hate-Bars-And-People-Under-65 rules (but how we desperately depend on their tax revenue), the occupancy limit of The Pub is 23 people. You really can fit about 50 in there without a fire hazard. Ive always has a curiosity to see what this place is like, and I knew that its very small considering the fact that its tightly tucked between two different businesses. As soon as you walk in you notice the narrow pathway to the bar which is on your left. Theirs 4 screens playing all different types of sport and a limited amount of craft and beers to quench your thirst! For the last two times ive been here its always been girls who tend this bar, it is beer only...so if your looking for Jameson or tequila your not gonna find it here. Its pretty clean and quiet here, since everyone tends to keep to themselves. The only ones that do stop by for a drink are locals and you can tell by the conversations/greetings to one another. ITS AWESOME!! Prices for the beers are what is expected, about $5 a beer. Because of limited seating (about 12 seats in the bar) it makes the bartender very quick and attentive to make sure your cup is never empty but half full ;) lol oh yeahhhh! I like to come here by myself since its nothing neat to take a group of friends to. Its just a nice establishment to unwind on a Sunday or even after work. Theres no food served here but they do sell bags of chips. Overall, good/quick friendly service. read more

Nothing wrong with this "Dive." This is where Locals hang after work & on weekend afternoons. However, like most bars, the knuckleheads & amateur drinkers abound on Fri. & Sat. nights. If something's going on in "The Village," you'll get all the updates here. This is also a favorite haunt of the Chopaderos (outlaw bicycle club). You'll usually see some wicked cruisers out in front, so if you're riding around, be sure to stop in for a cold Fat Tire Ale & check out the custom bikes. If you're lucky, there might be a Cruise happening and you'll get to see 100+ Ratted & Rodded pedals parked outside! Oh, I forgot to mention that beers are $1.50 whenever a Train passes by across the street, which gives the bar the slogan "Home of the Train Beer." read more

Right when you think you've got something down, life throws you a curveball that you scream, Dynomite! How did I ever not know about this place? I guess I just haven't clubbed my liver as often as I had thought in the village. Day drinking in the guise of team building with work buddies, we stopped into this small joint that is more than 3 times as long as it is wide. Submariners would find the volume like a train car quite cozy and familiar. The joint is all bar and a single jukebox. Well, there is a bit of an open area/platform towards the storefront that one can stretch out, but with the small space inside, it's all business: beer. All business such that when a train passes by, the bartend rings the bell, and all booze is $2. I was told it used to be a buck, but hey, coffee used to be a nickle and a gallon of gas was $1 when I was in high school too. I bought a round of 9 beers: a few domestics and drafts, which came to $18. How do you like them apples? So, keep that train schedule handy next to your cash since the joint is cash only. read more

Easily the best bar in Carlsbad. It has the best prices, the best bartenders, the best music, and the best POPCORN! It is pretty small but that just keeps the atmosphere interesting as you are definitely going to be shoulder to shoulder and talking to other people. Their 34 oz drafts for ~$9 are the best premium beer deal in town and they have something for everyone. The train beers and Adult Swim keep things fun on the slow nights, and on the busy nights, there is a good mix of people. read more

I feel like this bar doesn't belong here. Perhaps this place belongs in San Francisco, perhaps Boulder Narrow, tiny, dark, beer and wine, locals only esque. The beer they have is pretty good, but going out of style with these ale houses and restaurants with double, triple their selection. Talk about a dive bar. This place is a real hole in the wall. The bar is really just that, there are no tables and there is barely any standing room. The venue is incredibly narrow so if you aren't sitting behind the bar, you are crunched over the people who are. The place has dim lighting and there is barely even a drink selection because the Village Pub doesn't have a liquor license. Some Pub. There are a lot of locals who frequent the place and they tend to be of a mature age. However, the Villages Pub has a cutesy feel because it is located in the middle of the Carlsbad Village so it is a nice place to grab a cheap alcoholic beverage after you have had an intimate dinner in the Village. Or you could go there because you feel like slummin' it for one night. Why not? read more

Dropped by for the first time this evening and wow! The young lady serving appeared to be either way more drunk than her customers or she'd been smoking something WILD!! We (man and me) stayed to drink for a while as the show unfolded! We saw people (regulars?) helping themselves to beers as the server lass was outside for 10 minutes or more (throwing up? I am only guessing here..) People or should I say customers were sliding behind the bar grabbing back their credit cars as we watched in disbelief! Highly entertaining if not exactly professional. If you want a dive bar this is it! definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of place! nice to sit back and just a nice drink with friends, nothing fancy, belly up to the bar and have some tabasco popcorn. The only downside is it's literally the size of a hallway so not much room. Even though it looked like a regular townie bar and we did get a few looks coming in it wasn't a real problem but then again I don't really let it be one anyways. The boyfriend was new to Carlsbad, so we slowly took him to every bar in the village. I am sad to say that this was the last one on the list. Wish we would have started with it! They are beer and wine only, which isn't why I didn't give them 5 stars. They got 4 because they are cash only. Not a huge deal, we just plan ahead so we don't have to pay the crazy ATM fees. No worries though, they have the ATM on sight for those desperate times when you have a few more rounds than expected. Will is our usual bartender, and he is amazing. Super nice, but keeps the place in check. It's small, so it could easily get out of hand. He's on it though. They have a great jukebox, and an unlimited supply of free popcorn. This is a local bar, the Carlsbad village version of Cheers, only smaller because it is usually only locals, cash only, beer cold and TVs with sports on. They have wine available but I have never paid attention to what was available, no liquor or food besides the popcorn. This place is small and narrow so large groups be aware.
