Best beer drinking joint in Carlsbad. Went here for the first time in 1991 and it hasn't changed a bit. Long live the Train Beer!!!!

Can't go wrong with a bowl of warm popcorn in a bar!

This bar is the diviest dive bar ever - which is exactly what they're going for! As some others have mentioned, it's TINY. Literally just a long, narrow bar that seats I'm guessing 12-15 people. That's it! It's dark, had a good, interesting mix of music playing, and there was a TV turned to a baseball game. We received a greeting immediately and had beers in hand fast, along with a bowl of fresh popcorn from the movie theater style machine. Why don't more businesses do this?! Genius! Seems like this bar is loved by a good balance of both locals and curious tourists wanting to check out just how small it is. We come to the area often and will definitely be back!

When you are in Carlsbad, just want a beer and a break, this is your place. Great little dive bar where everyone gets along, the beer is cold, the people are friendly (our bartender was great) and the atmosphere is welcoming. Give this place a try.

Well hello my socially awkward friend (bar). This little joint is a dive right under your nose in Carlsbad Village. It's like the little train that could....try to keep up with all the hoity toity new spots like Campfire or Barrell Republic. Lol Great NARROW little spot, would not suggest for you and your closest 10 friends lol at least not at the same time. But if you stand in line, like at the bank, when one leaves another can come in it might work. Hahahaha Funny train special and great prices. No food.but POPCORN! If you're out Pub crawling or Dud crawling or for whatever reason you happen to be in the village this is a good spot to stop for a quick one

Great Spot! Heart of Carlsbad Village.. Home of the " Train Beer" Happy St. Paddys Day

Drinking their seasonal Sierra Nevada beer! First beer of the year going into 2015!! CHEERS!!

Ive always has a curiosity to see what this place is like, and I knew that its very small considering the fact that its tightly tucked between two different businesses. As soon as you walk in you notice the narrow pathway to the bar which is on your left. Theirs 4 screens playing all different types of sport and a limited amount of craft and beers to quench your thirst! For the last two times ive been here its always been girls who tend this bar, it is beer only...so if your looking for Jameson or tequila your not gonna find it here. Its pretty clean and quiet here, since everyone tends to keep to themselves. The only ones that do stop by for a drink are locals and you can tell by the conversations/greetings to one another. ITS AWESOME!! Prices for the beers are what is expected, about $5 a beer. Because of limited seating (about 12 seats in the bar) it makes the bartender very quick and attentive to make sure your cup is never empty but half full ;) lol oh yeahhhh! I like to come here by myself since its nothing neat to take a group of friends to. Its just a nice establishment to unwind on a Sunday or even after work. Theres no food served here but they do sell bags of chips. Overall, good/quick friendly service.

    Lotto, popcorn and draft beer...

It's not too bad, it's not authentic, but it's decent. I'd stop by again if I was in the area

Good tiny bar. Paul is a nice, if soft spoken, bartender. They have Guinness (but don't pour it correctly). Reason for -1 is no liquor.

AN INCIDENT HANDLED CORRECTLY: My friend and I sat at the bar, which was our only option as the…read moreoutside courtyard was filled for the great live music. We had so much fun and met some great people, like Dan who was sitting next to us... unfortunately, we eventually met a really rude (likely very drunk) woman and her friend. Dan went out to the courtyard to dance to Toga Party band... This rude woman insisted on Dan's seat, even after we told her there was someone sitting there... his drink still on the bar... she pushed it off to the side, spilling the beer and sat halfway on the seat... she didn't care and said something like, if he isn't here, the seat is open and ordered a beer for her and her friend. My friend and I let it go because she was so aggressive and drunk, we really didn't want a confrontation. Dan eventually came back from dancing (probably less than 4 minutes). BTW, there was no seating outside, so this was our only option as we arrived when the band started playing. Dan returned and explained to the woman he had been sitting there for over an hour, and wanted to finish his beer and take back his seat... she started calling him all kinds of ludicrous names and talking BS! He sat halfway on the stool, (she was on the other half) standing his ground but not responding to her verbal assault) and my friend told me she was saying all kinds of really mean stuff to him... I couldn't hear because I was on her other side... the restaurant was loud, as most restaurants are are around 8 pm. The bartender was great! When he realized what was happening and tried to reason with her to be a nice human, he finally realized she would not choose that path and pulled the 2 ladies drinks (from her friend as well) and said... "you're outta here, don't make me call security". (obviously after trying to speak to her calmly)... but she persisted until security was called to escort her out. She called him a racist, which he was defiantly NOT (she was Latina, but she was trying to use any excuses for her bad behavior). THEN... I wish I was done!!! Her sister came over about 10 minutes later... ordered a beer and continued to berate Dan. Literally staring him down like she was going to end him!!! She asked him aggressive, leading questions... not trying to get to the truth, but to defend her sister, so I chimed in to speak reason, (which didn't inflame the situation, but did not change her attitude at all) My friend told me even her own brother was trying to get her to walk away... the bartender realized what was happening and pulled the her drink off the bar and kicked her out and said, everyone with you needs to leave! Security came promptly and they left. I gotta say, her brother came back and paid for the drinks (they were almost full when the staff pulled them)... he was embarrassed and apologized to us all, he was nice and made an effort to be reasonable. Ultimately, the staff was very busy, but when they realized what was happening, they were on it!!! the staff will help take care of you.... Especially in the summertime when you don't know what kind of crazy drunk people show up. They even bought Dan a beer for having to endure the berating... (he almost left) and was a great sport and did not instigate her toxicity. I've been coming to see live music here for decades with friends and never experienced this before. Security and the bartenders took care of us when they realized what was happening. Overall, a great time and knowing that the staff has your back will make me be even more inclined to come back! I must say this was a rare event and I'm so thankful for the professionalism of the staff. I rarely write reviews, but I wanted to say, Thank you Coyote bar and grill for your professionalism and support to make it a fun evening! I will continue to support your business and appreciate your staff!

The seating I got was incredibly comfortable. The service was great and I gotta tell you I kicked it up with probably one of the newest appetizers I ever have they call rattlesnake eggs they're jalapeños wrapped at bacon and cream cheese inside they were super delicious. I got the avocado ranch to dip it in. I have to tell you though the Angus burger medium rare now I might make a recommend medium or medium well because it is juicy, but this hamburger was delicious and juicy and it is very well sized, but let me tell you the Coyte grace came from what my friend ordered and boy was jealous The coyote nachos are incredible. I recommend getting them with steak... These flavorful delicious nachos. Come with an incredibly dark salsa that will make your mouth water. I had to get extra sour cream and jalapeños because my friend knew he wasn't gonna be able to eat them without some Assistance, whether he wanted it or not not to mention you wanna take some chips and salsa home they'll sell it to you right here. this is what we're the trip from Los Angeles and I'm gonna tell you although it gets loud in here when he gets Act it's a family restaurant and we all love that on a Friday night... And actually in this case every night for me but Friday nights they also have live music in outdoor seating I don't wanna ever pass this place up, but let me tell you those nachos? I might move here. lol!

The Smash Burger comes with two patties, cheese, onions and bacon...YUM! The buns tasted slightly sweet so it paired well with the savory burger. The fries were great too. Not overly crispy. They run specials every day on different items, but the Smash Burger is for sure one to check out. The service was awesome. Our waitress was super nice and kept checking in on us. Great Service always makes a difference. Hennessey's is pretty big. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have booths, tables and bar seating for whatever your preference is. AT THE INTERSECTION OF REGRET AND REMORSE…read more At what point does a cover charge become just a discrete way of saying "you're not welcome, only tolerated"? Nothing humbles you faster than paying a $40 daytime 'cover charge' to sit uncomfortably with alchy-bros and their untreated mental health issues. We came to this Irish Tavern because...well... St. Patricks Day. The bouncer wouldn't let us in until we paid the extortion. It's no wonder millennials are broke. I didn't really wanna pay, but we found such a great parking spot... He took my cash and stuffed it in his pocket. For $40, we assumed something legendary was awaiting us inside. Is Cillian Murphy here? Or maybe a Glen Hansard cover band.? At the very least a Conan O'Brien blowup doll? Nope... just canned music playing over speakers that crackled like grandpa's radio. So there's no band... But, for $40 there better be at least something I haven't seen before. Perhaps they've summoned St. Patrick from the dead? Or figured out how to make everyone's red flags visually appear. Or how to uncrack an egg... Something! But nope, it was just like a regular day that wasn't $40 to get in. And here's the thing: the food and drink are ALSO more expensive than usual! So they already fleeced me for $40, and now two drinks are also $40? Two corned beef plates: another $50!? It was average to below average. It was like they took every Irish Tavern in the world, put 'em all in a blender, and hit puree. It was just... easy-to-chew mediocrity. Honestly, I've been to better pubs at Holiday Inn. As we walked out, the same bouncer was still collecting his shakedown fees. But this time the cover charge was only $10. Only 45 minutes later, the cover charge for the privilege of... well nothing... lowered exponentially!?! This isn't an Irish tavern, this is a scam with a jukebox. Pro tip: I've paid $40 for many things. A glow-in-the-dark toilet seat. A Texas-shaped waffle maker. A desktop punching bag for when Yelp takes down my reviews. But I'd rather pay $40 to NOT go to a mediocre Irish bar. Next year, I'm staying home to enjoy a $3 Guinness in my garage. No cover. Curated playlist. Parking's up front. Just me, my red flags, and zero regret.
