They are a scam. They pretend to have games in stock with good prices and let you order them. Once your order is paid for they change it and eventually (can take a while) send only the games that are not priced as well and will not respond to their customer emails. For 10 days we never received any shipping or tracking information and when we became concerned it was a scam my daughter reached out and requested a refund. Terrible customer service that stinks of a scam. I am a small business owner myself and I understand how pre-orders and shipping times work. I understand how to manage customer expectations. I also know it's annoying to receive emails from customers asking about their stuff, so I felt a little guilty when I sent an email asking about a book I had pre-ordered. I acknowledged in the email that I knew it was a pre-order and I wasn't expected an exact date, I was just hoping for a general estimate. It's a decent business practice to offer this courtesy. You can always under-promise and over-perform to keep your customers happy. The reply I got from Dean was dismissive and offered no information. I replied and let him know that I really wasn't looking for specifics. I just wanted a general time frame. Like most customers, I'm just looking for some reassurance that I will get what I ordered EVENTUALLY. I let him know that a competitor was specifying a two month time frame and that it was reasonable of me to ask for similar information. Dean's response seemed defensive and hostile, despite my reassurance that I was not trying to demand a specific date. Before I could respond, he cancelled my order telling me that it was cancelled because I'd failed to place the order with their special "zbag" credits. I went back to read over the specifics of their "zbag" credits. I'm highly suspcious that these zbag credits are a way to avoid giving people refunds when they're unable to actually get the items they have on "backorder". Once you purchase the credits, you won't be able to get a refund when they fail to uphold their end of the deal. You'll just be stuck with credits and be forced to buy something else from their store. I replied to Dean and said, "Oh I thought that scammy credit thing was optional." Dean replied: "Yes the scammy credit thing protects us from scammy customers so no harm no foul." I'm not sure how forcing their customers to convert their currancy to credits protects them from scams? Not a single game store in my area (there are dozens) does anything like this. Buyer beware. I made an order of an in-stock game. They charged my cc but never shipped the item. After I emailed them they took a week to get back to me with a notice saying they didn't have the item afterall and canceled the order. I wrote back saying I had informed my credit card and asked for my mone back and I would not be doing business with them again. They responded by sending my a very negative email complete with profanity. I now have seen hundreds of complaints of them not having what they claim and having very slow shipping as well as tesponding to emails. They are very good at charging your credit card though. I love buying discounted games from BSG! I am an avid player and I make lists of games to buy once I save up enough money and find a great deal. Over the past couple years I have placed 5 orders consisting of a combined 41 items and $840 of merchandise. Never once have I been ripped off. My last shipment just arrived which took about 3 weeks to deliver. I am more than happy to wait a little longer to save around 40% off other online stores. I don't order backordered items, but most of the items I choose are listed with "no rush processing" because they are in an outside warehouse. I think these are items that they order from their supplier and they ship them to me once all of them are received from their vendor. It's a great deal for me and it saves BSG from having to buy games they aren't sure will sell right away, The reason for the 15% surcharge is likely to cover their costs if they buy items to fill an order that gets cancelled for some reason. When that happens, they need to store a game until another customer wants to buy it. Perhaps it would be nice if they were a larger operation that can afford to staff more employees and warehouse tons of games. I like their business practice and capitalize on their deep discounts. I'm sorry other reviews are negative, but I feel their expectations are for an Amazon type of fulfillment from a small startup trying to offer customers an affordable alternative. I ordered a game "Sleeping Gods" on 9/20/2021. After waiting 10 months I asked for a refund, and was told I would be charged a 15% fee if I wanted to cancel. Total charge $79, price today on Amazon $99. I understand they are wanting to sell at a great price, but the price isn't great if you have to wait a year for something that you can pay $20 more and have it in two days. BEWARE: DON'T BUY BACKORDERED GAMES **I'm editing my last review as the company finally replied to my public review after ignoring multiple private emails 1) My main issue with this company is that when I requested an exchange on my backordered item, the company never responded. I wrote to them 3x over 2.5 weeks for the exchange, and they did not respond. At that point, they had my game and my money, which is theft. They finally initiated the exchange after I mentioned it publicly. 2) Their return policy is terrible, and it's not clear from their statement that you are expected to lose 15% of your entire order: the game, your shipping, and any extras (like rush order) that you paid for. It's one thing for a small business to expect a small return on the game, but it's another to expect a return on shipping money they never used and extras like rushing an order they never had to place. Please note: you can exchange the game for another one, and they did let me know that. 3) What if they never get your game in? Too bad! I waited over 240 days for my game, and the policy was still valid, DESPITE THE FACT THE GAME WAS AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE FOR MONTHS. They failed to procure the game, but I would still lose 15% on everything for a refund. 4) No updates/offers for buying used. As a thirty-year old woman who played DnD in high school (and not again until recently), I forgot how complex it is! I'm having a ton of fun rediscovering this hobby, but I also am such a n00b. He was all around so kind and helpful! He said they do monthly (weekly? I can't remember) DnD lessons for beginners. I have a baby so I haven't found a babysitter to make it to one yet, but I will soon! They were such genuine people, I can't wait to go back. I'm very happy I stumbled upon their shop. Came into Boarding School Games for the third time tonight and I don't even live in Vegas! I've been here a few times and feel so bad I haven't written a review yet but I don't even know where to start! Matt, one of the owners, has been amazing every time I've come in! I've been to a few different game shops in California, Portland and New York but they have all been missing a lot. Either they've tried to be the hipster game place focusing on weird games that only has appeal for people who love a specific franchise or they've mainly focused on games like Magic or Star Wars Armada which I understand the need for both because these places to need to make money somehow. However, this is where I think Boarding School Games comes in and lets in the masses. Their store is very peculiar in that yes there are games spread out everywhere with tables to play on but there also are no price tags. At first I thought it was a pay to play type thing but nope, Matt explained to me that he just wanted a place so that people can come together and play games and grow with the community. I asked, "so people can play any of the games that have been opened?" Matt answered, "nope, you can basically play ANY game in the store even if its unopened! We'll open it up for you!" I asked again, "so you guys let people try it out and then they can purchase it afterwards?" Matt answered, "kinda, we let people try it out and then they can order anything they want AND I'll try to give you the best deal I can get!" In disbelief, I chatted with him for another hour on games and he gave me so many suggestions! I asked for games for two players for me and my wife and he had suggestions right away. Then I asked him for games that can try to keep my grandma sharp and he had more suggestions! This place is great and can't believe I found this gem! Still not sure how they stay in business but glad that there are good people in the world that are trying to make it a better place with something as wholesome as board games. My husband and I stumbled in here and it was so adorable! The owners were super nice and picked out a game and taught us how to play it. They even played a few different games with us. It was so refreshing to spend quality time with my husband without looking at our phones a single time! It's completely free to come into the store and play a game and all the games are for sale, both in store and online. We came back with children the next time and the owners picked out some age-appropriate games for them to play and taught the kids how to play the game. But the owners have always been rude and conceited towards there customers, do not communicate with there customers, and make it difficult to get in product.
