We recently had a late lunch here and we're pleasantly surprised on how our food was prepared . I ordered the pulled pork sandwich special which was not on the menu but definitely should be!! It came with a side of fries and coleslaw which I substituted for sweet potato fries. It was very tender and delicious . My wife and daughter both got the chicken avocado sandwich which they also liked . The location on the back deck overlooking the Hudson was great. Almost got another meal there by accident . Wonderful experience on all levels. Our party of four had a variety of food, from salads to pasta to entrees. All excellent. Waitress was great. Very reasonably priced food. Owner came over to see how things were. Then there was the setting! You won't find a more gorgeous outdoor dining experience anywhere inn the Capital District. We plan on going there frequently and bringing out of town guests to show off our location. Highly recommended! I have no idea what agenda some of the negative posts have. I recently celebrated my birthday at the Boathouse Grille at Shady Harbor Marina in New Baltimore, NY. It was fantastic. I really can't say enough good things about this gem on the Hudson River. I can't even imagine owning and operating a restaurant business these days, but despite all the COVID constraints, they are really working hard to do the right thing. The food and ambiance were exactly what I was looking for on my birthday. The fish tacos, bangin shrimp, salads, steak tartare, barrata ravioli were just some of the food ordered. Terrible food. Don't waist your time and money. Can't believe what they tried to serve as food.

Just SOME of the things that went badly.... 1. It took over 40 minutes to get a toasted slice of bread for my starving toddler 2. Another 40+ minutes (over 80 minutes after we ordered) to get our lunches 3. We needed to ask for condiments which took another 10+ minutes. By this point our sandwiches and sides were cold 4. Never asked us if we needed more drinks or refills despite the fact we all had empty glasses 5. Charged for an alcoholic drink we never ordered and waitress wouldn't remove it from the bill 6. Asked for to go containers and after waiting nearly 60 minutes, wrapped up what we could w paper napkins we had and left the rest behind 7. Onion rings were over cooked and tasteless, but couldn't send them back bc waitress didn't come back to table for a very long time 8. Took 15 minutes for coffee and an additional 30 minutes for a refill. 9. Took over 30 minutes for dessert 10. Asked the waitress if she could bring dessert for the 2 ppl having birthdays, she said yes, asked each what they wanted, then only brought 1 out and proceeded to argue and cause a scene. 11. More times than not, the waitress was standing around talking w someone and paying very little attention to our table. 12. Toward the end of us being there, the waitress stood for over 45 minutes (we timed it) talking w someone and totally ignored our table. 13. Another table of guests was seated within less than 2 ft of us. Our chairs only had about 1 ft between the backs 14. Wait staff kept moving and touching their masks then touching the plates, cups, condiments 15. The condiment containers were never cleaned. 16. We needed to wipe things down before touching or using it We arrived at the restaurant at approx 1:15 and didn't leave until a few minutes before 5:00! This is totally unacceptable under normal circumstances and beyond unacceptable during a pandemic when ppl don't want to linger and be around others. This was all on a day that there were next to no other patrons. Very unsafe! There is no excuse for any of this! We left the restaurant annoyed, aggravated and filled with anxiety that we were exposed to others and sat in an unsafe environment. Spoke w Manager after being there and while apologetic, took very little responsibility and defended some of it. She further said how she didn't know about any of this, which to me is very very poor management that she wouldn't know her staff were standing around talking, ignoring patrons and being rude. Used to love this place when under a different owner and manager, but now, no way!!!! Never again! read more

Arrived told since we didnt have a reservation they would text us a wait it and we could sit at the bar. Got a text message it would be a 30 min wait an hour and a half later was told that sinse we didnt have a reservation we wouldnt be seated until a table would open up and they seat reservations before walk ins. Food is okay. Service regularly terrible. Today, for instance, it was 10 mins from when we were seated till the two waiters figured out which would wait on us. Poor choice of music, given the demographic. Bus persons do not refill water even. Poorly managed, alas. The staff are all kids. Lunch arrived 37 minutes after we did. Sigh. Okay, a word on the food. The French fries (battered) were fine: crispy, hot. The BLT was made from cold but crispy bacon bits (as for a salad), two wimpy tomato slices, a lot of kale-like lettuce, and no mayo, not even on the side. No training, no management, no good. Portobello Mushrooms bites , Bangin shrimp, lump crab, and jalapeño corn fritters. All were good if not great but the fritters need to be spicier. Entrees were beer batter fish, chicken cordon bleu, pulled pork and tacos your way. NO alcohol was ordered just tea, lemonade, water and iced coffee. Bill was $230 OUCH!!!!! We took the wrong turn on the highway and found ourselves in New Baltimore. Looked for a place on Yelp. What a catch! Great food, great service, good prices. It was mostly empty when we came in (Monday 4pm), but with the amount of tables inside and on the outside deck, it can get crowded with local crowd, visitors and boaters. We visited here on a Thursday night and had a great experience. Sat on the deck and had a beautiful river view. Calamari was seriously delicious, and our entrees were as well. Try the summer salad! We were a party of 8 from PA, and it was our first time sitting down in a restaurant since the pandemic began. So relieved to see the staff following protocol and making everyone feel at ease. We gave this restaurant another chance after not going for over a year. Bad decision. I ordered the Caesar salad and added the grilled shrimp. My husband also ordered a salad. He requested a different dressing then what was indicated on the menu as coming with it. Should have been no big deal. His salad came with no dressing. Easy enough, aak for some. Over 15 minutes before we saw or got the attention of a waitress, ANY waitress. Actually stopped a bus boy, who essentially said he didn't know how to get that because he just cleans tables. When she finally saw him and brought back a side of dressing, he had to ask for 2 more. This was a fairly large dinner salad, she brought dressing that was in a plastic cup the size of a ketchup packet. My salad itself was fine. The standard, fairly boring Caesar salad. Nothing exciting, bagged crotons, romaine lettuce and some standard parm cheese . The "grilled" shrimp were NOT GRILLED at all. They were clearly thrown on from a pile of boiled shrimp made for shrimp cocktail. They were absolutely tasteless. I asked the waitress about them and why they weren't grilled as the menu states, her response - "the grill isn't near the salad station so they just use the cocktail shrimp" WHAT?!?! She was like, is that a problem? We ate and asked for our check. Never did our server ever return to do any follow up. We noticed that there was a sign that said something along the lines of discount for cash payment. We told her we would pay in cash. They check showed no discount. Of course she was no where to be found so my husband asked the bartender about the discount. We were told the discount is that you don't pay the 3.25% for using a credit card! OMG!! Isn't that the cost of doing business? Why would you ever pass that cost to your customers? Moral of the story. NEVER AGAIN. I have made sure I tell anyone and everyone I talk to about dining out this horrible experience, especially the fact that this restaurant expects its customers to pay for cost they should ALWAYS incur as a business. We will wait for a new owner, as I have heard from several people about their absolute ire in regards to paying a credit card fee. read more

I had dinner at the Boathouse Grille for the first time on Sunday evening. I had no idea this hidden gem was so close to my home in Albany, NY. The dining room was lovely and spacious, and the outside deck was beautiful! What a view of the Hudson! It was too chilly for us to sit on the deck, but it was open for the few who were interested in sunning in the last of the October rays. The service was friendly and affable. Our server, Brittany, answered questions we had about the building and management and location with a knowledge of the restaurant's history. I went with my elderly disabled parents, and the staff could not have been more helpful and understanding. I had Chicken Picatta as my entree and asked for a substitution for the rice it ordinarily comes with. The chef was accommodating and gave me the potatoes I asked for. This meal was delicious. The best meal I have had out in years! The flavoring was perfect with just the right amount of lemon, garlic, and butter. I was extremely pleased. Not many places offer picatta anymore, and they don't always get it right. I received a generous portion, but managed to eat all of the chicken. It was that good! My mom had their seafood pot pie which is like a seafood stew with puffed pastry topper. Several people in the restaurant were talking about it, so it seems to be a popular dish. She really enjoyed her meal. My dad had the special of stuffed soul. He also enjoyed his meal, greatly. He is a big fish lover, but he doesn't often finish his entire portion. He finished this. Our only criticism was the vegetables were cooked in the way that chefs love to serve them these days, crisp and warm. We like our vegetables cooked through. But we are old, and that is not the way restaurants cook them anymore. All and all we had a lovely meal, beautiful location. I can't wait to go back. We ordered two appetizers , neither was appetizing. It was followed up by two terrible dinners. We had them take one off the check it was so bad. I ordered a dish recommended by the waitress. Silly me thought fish came in the fish tacos! It was a mouth full of coleslaw and no fish my first bite. Second was no better. I opened it up to find three slivers of fish. Last year I rated the Boathouse Grille 5 stars and called it a "Hidden Gem". We dined there at least 6 times during the season. The river view from the outside deck is picturesque and relaxing. Well, it is a new season and unfortunately our experience last evening was sub-par. The wait for service was excessive and the entree was cool in temperature. We were told that it was the end of restaurant week so they ran out of several items on the price-fixe menu and were not offering alternatives. Our waitress was either new at the job or un-caring. She was certainly not empowered to be creative. I understand that the wait staff is limited until college students are available for summer employment. So we intend to try one more time after Memorial Day. If our experience does not improve, it will be our last time dining here. read more

A hidden gem close to Albany. A well stocked bar with attentive but not fussy service. You can linger at the bar, or take your drink for a walk outside, as we did. It was the first really nice spring day, so people were enjoying the bocce courts. Delicious appetizers--don't miss the corn fritters and the calamari. The menu had something for everyone, from a delicious burger to a solid portion of fish and chips, several delicious salads, prime rib and chicken marsala. Drink orders - even at the bar - were difficult to get filled. We sat outside by a cutout window to the bar. Nice idea. Ordered wings and calamari - they were good - but didn't dare chance ordering dinner as the wait for everyone was crazy. I almost cancelled our reservation after reading some of the unfavorable reviews, but we stuck with our guns, and I'm glad we did! We had a reserved table for 7 on a Wednesday night. I would say the dining area was moderately full. We were seated in the gazebo area, right next to the water - a very nice, little spot. Over the course of the evening, we got to see a large cargo ship headed south while it was light (we googled its name and got lots of cool info about it), we saw all the lights of a barge being pushed upstream by a tugboat when it got dark, and we marveled at a very large yacht that was moored at the marina for the night. We had arrived in a several different groups, and the server was attentive, coming back to get drink orders after each group arrived. A basket of warm bread was brought to the table, and we asked for this to be refilled several times. Our server also brought us oil and balsamic for dipping when we requested it. We ordered steamers and fried calamari as apps, and they came out in a decent amount of time and were well-prepared, at good temps and delicious. Also, our drinks were quickly refilled when we ran low. For entrees, we ordered 3 filet mignons, one pan-seared salmon, one bruschetta chicken, a duck salad and an order of penne ala vodka with shrimp (mine). All of the entrees came out looking great. Not fancy - the steaks and salmon came with broccoli and a choice of sides - but again, well-prepared and good-tasting. I noticed that one of our dining companions had ordered his filet medium, and it looked to me that it was more medium-well, but he didn't even mention it, so it must have been fine. The duck salad was a nice portion of duck atop a bed of fresh field greens - it looked very appetizing and we were told that it was good. A quick poll around the table revealed that everyone was happy with his/her dish, including me! The same can be said for our desserts: two tuxedo bombes (chocolate mousse), two crème brulee, two raspberry lemon drops and a peanut butter explosion. The only thing I can think of that may have been a drawback for other customers was that it took over an hour from the time we sat down to the time our entrees came out. On this particular evening, we were celebrating a birthday, and were in no hurry at all. We also had seven people, which surely attributed to the timeframe. But, as mentioned before, our server was good about refilling our bread basket and drinks, so it was actually a very pleasant experience from top to bottom. (Oh, there were some mosquitos after the sun went down - our ankles and legs were ambushed. I'd suggest taking preventive measures if you choose outdoor seating!) From the reviews, it seems like this eatery is hit or miss, but we definitely got it on a "hit" night. I would recommend giving it a try. read more
