If you're someone who loves dining by the water, Boathouse Grille in New Baltimore is definitely worth adding to your summer list! The large outdoor seating area overlooks the beautiful Hudson River, making it the perfect place to relax while watching boats cruise by, water skiers in action, or simply enjoying the peaceful waterfront views. There's also a spacious gazebo-style seating area that's perfect for taking pictures. If outdoor dining isn't your thing, there's plenty of comfortable indoor seating as well. The menu features classic American favorites, occasional prime rib specials, weekly specials, and a full bar. During my visit, we ordered the fish and chips with onion rings to share. The fish was light, flaky, and perfectly crispy, and the fries were delicious. The only thing I would change is that the onion rings seemed to have extra salt sprinkled on them. They were still good, but I'd prefer to season them myself. For dessert, we tried the lemon cake and the strawberry cake. Both were absolutely delicious! I personally can't eat strawberries, so be sure to check out my video for the live dessert tasting. This is definitely going into my regular summer rotation--especially on evenings when they have live music or a band playing. The Boathouse Grille is one of my favorite Capital District places. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of outdoor places that offer wonderful views - in addition to the food and drinks. This place has it all. Located in New Baltimore, it's a little tricky the first time finding it - it is located in a marina. Pro tip - some of the best, off the beaten track places are found in marinas. They are easy to access by boat - by road, not so much. But, when you find one - it's heaven! The food is terrific - you have your standard offerings such as burgers, fish and chips (both are excellent) as well as more refined choices such as mussels, crabcakes, pasta. All elegant and delicious. The service is always top-notch. Servers are friendly, attentive, and aim to please. There is seating inside (we never do this), at the bar with a view of the Hudson, or -- (tada!) outside on the tremendous deck with an absolutely gorgeous view of the Hudson. Ok so I gave it seven years and decided I would give them another shot. Was very disappointed to learn that they didn't improve at customer service, took forever to get our meal. They now charge five dollars for " Bread Service " comes with a small loaf of bread 6 small pieces in a basket and cup of oil and vinegar. We ordered another loaf of bread and after our bill came I seen that they charged us for two $5 orders of bread service. I asked why they were charging us twice she said you ordered another bread. I said it's called a bread service charge. Something other restaurants give complementary with the meal. They informed me that " bread service " doesn't mean all you can eat. lol what ??? This place is a joke I won't ever make a mistake of going here again. I would totally avoid this place. Terrible menu choices and service , highly overpriced for mediocre food. read more

I can't think of a more pleasant place to spend an evening looking out at the Hudson River in this beautiful spot. It really is the prettiest place you can go for dinner. Unfortunately the service is consistently slow - even when there are very few people there. I feel sorry for the wait staff who are very nice, but they are constantly having to apologize for the kitchen. The food is average - not bad. I would frequent this place more often if they would just get their act together and figure out how to move food along in a reasonable amount of time. We arrived for a 6:30pm reservation and didnt get our food until 7:45 - that is just unacceptable. read more

I had an absolutely lovely experience at the boathouse grill with my partner's family! The service was wonderful and we were always checked on and taken care of. I believe our server's name was Kaitlyn and she was a real highlight of the visit. Food: 4/5 The appetizers were fresh and delicious (I loved the wings, garlic knots, and house salad - that dressing was so yummy). The sauce that came with the garlic knots tasted fresh ... and possibly homemade? Either way, great way to start off! I took a star off because my main course wasn't the best. I got the chicken bruschetta pasta and it was a bit disappointing and lacking flavor. The butter/sauce was kind of slimy as well, while the balsamic was a tad too sweet for my liking. However, the other dishes I tried were so yummy! Their specials were real hits. The desserts (especially that creme brûlée) were amazing as well. I think I just picked a not-so-great dish. Service: 5/5 - go Kaitlyn and the serving team! incredible! Atmosphere: 3/5 - beautiful views and ambience outside, but the flies and the bugs were very bothersome. I'm unsure if it was because we were seated towards the edge of the outdoor dining area. I won't blame the restaurant for nature (lol!) so I'd just say request to sit closer to the indoor area or indoors if flies and bugs bother you. Overall, a great experience! This a a restaurant you go to for the atmosphere. The outside seating on the river at the marina is very nice. The wait staff is also very friendly. The food is average. I doubt if you'll eat anything here that will make you want to run back but you would have enjoyed the day on the water over a pretty good meal. read more

My bf and I went over the weekend to enjoy some cocktails on the water and we were pleasantly surprised by the top notch service and food. We had drinks at the bar which was steadily busy but the bartenders gave great service and were so friendly. We ate dinner on the deck and our server was the best. Afterwards we went to our car to find it wouldn't start but Murphy the restaurant manager and Tom the GM were quick to help and got the car started!! Was there recently with friends. My husband and I both ordered linguini with clams. It was terrible! It wasn't linguini - it was a small bowl of dry spaghetti topped with about 10 clams in the shell. No taste to it all. And $30 per dinner! We also made the mistake of getting dessert to go... a sliver of cheesecake for $10+... We will definitely not be going back any time soon. read more

June, 2018 the skies cleared on cue just in time for us to head to the Boathouse. The Hudson was calm and our accommodating waitress didn't balk when I asked her if we could sit next to the rail, even though the chairs were wet and she had to wipe them dry. I have to say I LOVED my haddock tacos: the fish was crispy and hot, the tortillas had been dropped on the grill just long enough, and the cilantro Cole slaw was fresh and perfect in these. Very fresh and hot onion rings were substituted for chips. I enjoyed a flight of 4 craft beers which furthered my beer knowledge. The moon came up over the other side of the river, and capped off the perfect start to summer. Staff was all friendly and polite. This restaurant is reliably a great experience that's on my "Summer Bucket List" every year for a reason! I must update my last review! Our visit in September was fantastic! The good was excellent, as was the service. Definitely sit on the deck and watch the sunset. I can't way to return. read more

I'd give it a 3.5 star. Loved the ambiance. The place was clean and they even gave each table sand sanitizers. We started out with the Brussels sprouts and the crab appetizer. Both good, but in small dishes so it was a little hard to eat. Then got a meat lovers pizza and the cilantro chicken (see pictures)! Both were good but nothing great. My salmon was overcooked and the clams in my husband's fettuccine dish weren't thoroughly rinsed so he tasted sand. We expressed our concern to the management but they offered us nothing. The restaurant has such an amazing setting. The view of the marina and Hudson is lovely. Lovely huge deck with an awning with fans. The restaurant was having some issues with equipment or supplies and had a number of menu items unavailable. The servers were very professional and notified us as we got our menus so we wouldn't be surprised later. The food we got was tasty: the ahi tuna nachos (on a wonton type "chip") were fun, the garden salad was refreshing (dressing was strong with garlic but so tasty). The brussels sprouts were a little too goopy for me but they are on a nice track. Nice kids menu and drinks menu. Our kids got to walk around and play bocce while we waited for the food (always a plus). We got to meet the owners on our way out who were very nice about our kids chasing their chickens (sorry again!). Setting and service make this gem of a spot a 5. Fantastic gem on the Hudson, a short drive from the Albany area. Arrived around 545 with no reservations, but was seated with no wait out on the deck. Out server Rebecca was SUPER SWEET, and very attentive throughout our meal, which lasted a leisurely hour and a half. I started with clams in garlic sauce, and he got the wings which he raved on about. Our entrees were realoy good, I had the crab cake sandwich, and he had the bacon horseradish shrimp. We had ciders, pinot, and I had a dark and stormy (strong and YUM) through the meal. Will definitely return! read more

Driving down I-87 and found this on the list. No idea why it was rated so low. Came down to the restaurant, and the kids loved seeing the chickens from another property running around. We entered and the restaurant is spacious with a nice bar with a water view. Sat on the deck and ordered calamari. Not gourmet, but definitely delicious. The kids menu was awesome and the kids pizza could have fed the whole table. Wife ordered the shrimp role and loved it. I had a wedge salad and some wings. Wings were standard bar food, and wedge salad (like the kids pizza) could have fed the whole table. Service was outstanding. View was great and weather was picturesque. Definitely recommend for those traveling I-87 or anyone passing through New Baltimore. read more

So we have been here a few times. Atmosphere and service is generally the reason for the three stars. The food hasn't been great. My husband and I ordered their chicken and waffles which was sub par. The chicken was raw and there wasn't much flavor. My mother ordered penne a la vodka with chicken which cost $25 as the chicken addition was $6. She says it tasted like pasta in tomato soup. We did however have great smoked jalapeño corn fritters and steamed clams. And my daughters both had fun with with their hot dogs with French fries. Long story short, the atmosphere is great. Food is sub par and not worth the drive. It really is a shame since it is such a beautiful spot. read more

OK, so this place is absolutely a 4.5-5 Star experience, whose "star score" is weighed down unfairly (in my opinion) by the fact that it's in an area where apparently a lot of people don't seem to be Yelpers and also due a few bad reviews from 3 or 5 YEARS ago... Come on Yelp... there's got to be some sort of algorithm you can use to weight the reviews! Anyhow, enough of my soapboxing... here's my review: I arrived at Donovan's Shady Harbor Marina by boat as a precursor to entering the Erie Canal. I had received numerous recommendations by other boaters tipping me off that this is a "must stop" marina and restaurant on the river. We started off ordering the Salmon Poke, as it was recommended by our cheerful server over the asparagus puffs that we were thinking about (side note: I love when the servers actually give you their opinion, rather than just pushing whatever they are supposed to). We were SO glad we listened to her. The app came out beautifully presented, and the salmon was fresh and delicious. Exactly what one would hope for. After that, we ordered the main course. I had the Veal Saltimbocca, and my crewman had the Filet Mignon (we're men -- we like meat). Holy Cow!! :) The veal had an incredibly well realized marsala sage butter saude that was an epiphany -- rich, creamy, and it set off the delicate veal medallions perfectly. I can not speak to the Filet Mignon, as I didn't eat it, but my crewman said it was the best steak he'd had since we left Palm Beach. I take that as high praise, as he grew up on a ranch that raised beef cattle... he kind of knows his stuff! OH!! I didn't mention the drinks!! OK, full bar, solid beer selection, and craft cocktails made by hand. Their bartender was funny, friendly, and gave us great recommendations. I had a Cucumber Mojito that was out of this world good, and my crewman had the Galley Punch. Actually, he had 3 Galley Punch's, so I'm gonna go ahead and say they were delicious. We were too stuffed to try a dessert, so no idea if they are good or not, but based on the rest of the experience, I wouldn't hesitate to do so. So... great staff and service, an amazing view out over the marina and onto the beautiful Hudson River, and a pro kitchen and bar staff serving up the good stuff. If you are anywhere in the area, and want to treat yourself RIGHT... get here. You'll be glad you did. read more

Review time kids! So the lovely bride and I decided to jump on the bike and wonder about last weekend! Well, we ended up here, and that's not a bad thing! Let's start out with the lay of the land. They have a HUGE outside seating area/deck some covered ,some not. There's a fairly large bar the has inside and outside seating. There is also inside seating(who wants that on a beautiful night?!?). Almost anywhere you sit you will have a wonderful view of the Hudson River! We decided to take a seat at the bar for convenience sake. Our bartender/server was very attentive, considering it was a very busy evening. I ordered a black and blue burger(prepared absolutely perfect.) the bride had some sort of fish(eh,I should pay more attention!) she said it was excellent! We were warned the dinner may take a while to get,20 minutes wasn't bad at all! We will be going back for....shore....(sorry, I can't resist! ) read more

The restaurant was nice, the crabcake was excellent, the spinach and goatcheese salad was outstanding, the fish in the fish tacos was excellent (the fish tacos needed salsa) but I did not care for the seafood chowder. We were driving south on 87 and wanted to have a lunch somewhere on the Hudson. We kind of randomly chose the Boathouse Grille because it was nearby and showed up on Google Maps. Turned out to be a fantastic choice! Sitting out on their beautiful deck overlooking the water, eating fresh fish sandwiches, was just the break we needed from a long drive. Service was prompt and friendly and prices were surprisingly reasonable (not what you might expect once you see all the fancy yachts docked at the marina next to the restaurant. Things started OK. The view was idyllic and the service was pleasant and attentive. Our appetizers, Wedge salad and Chowder were excellent. It went downhill from there. I made reservations here for my birthday tonight with a group of people and thought my first experience here would be a good one. I was wrong- we ordered our food and after waiting 30 minutes we watched one of the runners come out and drop all of our food on the ground in front of us. The waitress, Caitlyn L, denied it was our food when we said something about it. Then we had to wait another 20 minutes for all of our food to be remade and when it came out the new runner admitted to it be our food that fell all over the patio. When we were served our bill we thought at least there would be some compensation due to the longer wait we had for our dinners- nope, nothing. I confronted the waitress and she brought over the manager. The "manager" that didn't introduce herself wasn't nice at all and said the runner accidentally dropped our food so there was nothing they could do and offered 1 piece of dessert after we already told the waitress we didn't want dessert. The manager didn't take accountability for the longer wait we had for our food to come out. Manager took the runners side over the customers. This will be the first and last time dining at this establishment. read more
